Safari 7.03 install on Mavericks is stuck on Installing - Calculating

I tried quitting the App Store and restarting it, with no luck. Now it won't update and I can't use Safari because it says it is updating.

I have the same problem, any help from someone would be great!

  • Safari 7.0.6 stuck at "installing-calculating" - What to do (besides giving up Safari for Chrome ... forever)

In the process of updating Safari to 7.0.6, the install seems to be stuck at "installing -- calculating."  Other apps have updated since then, so it's not my network. Should I wait and hope it will eventually finish out the install? Attempts to open Safari result in "Safari can't be opened while it is updated." Short of abandoning Safari altogether for another browser, what can I do?

No problems with the Safari 7.0.6 update here...
    Several things to try ..
Right or control click the Safari app in the Applications folder then click Get Info. If you see version 7.0.6, go no further.
    Otherwise  ...
Restart your internet modem and router
Disable anti virus software if installed
Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled. Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected. If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

Is this a problem with the DOWNLOAD or with the INSTALLATION? You should be able to download with Safari open but you do have to quit Safari in able to install. Try downloading the dmg file, restart with no apps open and then trying to install Flash Player.

Hi, Today I tried printing a label with postage at the USPS website. I was unable to proceed off the first page even though all my account info is present. Anybody else have this problem? I'm using Safari 7.0.1 and Mavericks 10.9.1. Website says I must use IE 8. When did that happen!

Solved my own problem. You now have to enter a package value in order to proceed with Click N Ship

  • Safari will not install, HELP!!

My update to Safari Beta was interrupted and never installed, but in the process Safari 2 was removed from the system. Anyways, I can't find a safari version to install, every version I have tried tells me I need a different version of the OS.
Example:Trying to install 2.0.1, at Select Destination, I select Macintosh HD and the Installer gives me the !You cannot install Safari Update on this volume this
software requires Mac OSX 10.4.2. and Safari 3 Beta give me the !You cannot install Safari 3 Beta on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.
Any clues? I am running the latest OS and

What seems to have happened is that the 3 beta has removed Safari 2.0.4 and not installed 3 - unfortunately you cannot install 2.0.1 because it's too old and 3 won't install because it doesn't see a version 2! You should note that safari is an extension of webkit and if this has been updated in the OS to the v.3 version then this could also stop the beta from installing as it thinks it's already in there. May be the uninstaller will work if it's there?
I'm not sure what to recommend here, sorry, I'm afraid the lesson is to stay away from betas!!
Best guess from here is to archive and install from your OS disk (a pain if it's 10.4.0 I know) and update from there - any other suggestions, anybody?

  • Deleted Safari.app - cant install again

    Hi.
I have a time ago downloaded the Safari 4 developer preview.
Anyways, i got tired of it and i wanted to switch back to 3.2, or whatever is the newest product version. Well, as with any other uninstall i thought i'd just have to drag the .app into the trashcan.
Well, i did this and it went fine, and i emptied the trashcan and it went fine and stuff like that.
When i then tried to install Safari 3.2 it said that a newer version of Safari was already installed. Then i browsed around for a time and found out that i had to delete a folder inside ~user/library called Safari.
I did this, but it will still not install.
I went into the Disc Utility and repaired and controlled the Disc permission things you know.
Really hope ya can help, getting sick of firefox's inability to read RSS and its weird.. Look!
    Thanks in advance!

Have a look at this thread for how to obtain Safari 4. I haven't tried it, so I can't vouch for whether the download is still accessible.
If you get the dmg file, install Safari 4 again. Then, uninstall it using the provided uninstaller. That will take you back to the last version of Safari used in your system prior to Safari 4.

  • Safari 3.1 Install - Breaks Mail, Update Manager, Help, Safari

I downloaded and installed Safari 3.1. Afterwords, all apps that use webkit appear to be broken. They attempt to start and crash.
I have backed out all input manager files per the instructions that have been posted elsewhere.
    I have re-applied the 10.4.11 combo update.
I removed the Audio Hijack APE file per Mac Fix It
    Etc... Multiple times...
Still no mail, no Safari, no help, no update manager. The Webkit version of Safari works...

Fixed!! I tried verify permissions and verify hard drive in disk utility. I do have a key error that causes the drive verify to stop.
    Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Keys out of order
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
Disk Utility stopped verifying “Macintosh HD” because the following error was encountered:
The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
But, never mind that. for now..
From the forums I found this...
"This issue is resolved, thanks karelsf. To run Software Update through terminal, open Applications > Utilities > Terminal, then type:
    sudo softwareupdate -i -a
Enter your password at the prompt. You'll probably be asked to restart when it's done, which you'll have to do manually. This probably worked because the new Safari update also installed a new WebKit framework, which was the problem in the first place.
    Thanks!

Thank the above wonderful folks for sharing!!
Might not work for everybody, but worked for me, just need to figure out the hard drive error...

Does anybody know if the ipad air 1 is using yosemite or something different? I don't know what type of safari i should install because it disappeared from the ipad. Thanks!

YYosemite is a Mac OS and it doesn't run on an iPad. You cannot delete or install Safari on the iPad. It is on your device somewhere.
Swipe from screen to screen to look for it.
Check Settings>General>Restrictions and make sure that you didn't disable it.
You can also reset the home screen layout and the icon will reappear - but the home screen will return to the way that it looked when you first activated your iPad. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Safari refusing to install

Is there anyone who can suggest a solution to safari failing to install
The MAC HDD has an exclamation mark as a against Green tick.
I have verified permissions etc but to no avail. Falling short of reinstalling the operating system - any ideas?
    thanks

I just wanted to add to the evidence trail. I did a fresh install from the 10.5 Install DVD using the optional installs technique and re-installed Safari.
The current symptom is that Safari just sits there bouncing and will not launch properly. I've tried deleting the preferences in the Preferences folder and I've deleted files from the Safari Preferences folder.
Not sure why this happened but I can tell you it started apparently today and, from reading around the Internet, there are several people all experiencing this bug.
It would be good if someone in the position to know what's going on posts a comment about this problem and that it is being addressed.

  • Safari Won't Install Zotero Connector

    Hi all,
I recently downloaded Zotero v. 4.0.23. for Mac along with the Safari extension. However, when I attempt to install the extension, I receive the message, "Safari can't install this extension. An error occurred while installing the extension "Zotero Connector"."
I am running Safari version 7.1 on Mac v. 10.9.5. To successfully download the connector, I had to reset a number of my security preferences. However, I was eventually able to complete the download. I have spent several hours trying to determine the problem with the installation, and I am at a loss. I hope that someone in these forums can provide a solution since I am clearly missing something.
    Thank you in advance!!

    Can you install any extension?

  • Cannot install calculator widget. Says it is, but I can't find it. Please help.

    Hello,
I have tried repeatedly to install Calculator Widget on my laptop, an HP-17. with Firefox. Need this extension for an online business. I am not very adept at computers, and do not understand the information suggested. Can you help, please?

    Big1guy,
It sounds like the calculator widget is installed on your computer - which is good news!
The screenshots and information on the addon's page are a little out of date, but you should see a calculator button near the top-right of your Firefox window. I've attached a screenshot of how it looks for me.
If you're not seeing that calculator icon, the first thing to do would be to check that the widget is enabled. Here's how:
    # Open the Addons Manager - > Extensions.
    # Find the FBA Calculator Widget in the list. Make sure that it isn't greyed out and doesn't have the word ''(disabled)'' in the title. If it does, click the ''Enable'' button.
    # The calculator icon should appear near the top-right of the screen.
If the widget is enabled but you still can't see the icon, the icon might be hidden. Here's how to unhide it:
    # Click the [[Image:New Fx Menu]] button at the top-right of the screen and then click ''Customise''
    # Under ''Additional Tools and Features'', you should see the FBA Calculator icon
    # Drag the FBA calculator icon onto the row of icons at the top-right of your screen, or into your Firefox menu on the right-hand side of the screen
    # Click ''Exit customise''
I hope these steps solve the problem. Let us know how you get on!
