Safari 7.1 update problem

Software Update still shows the download after installing. I have installed it several times but it still shows as needing to be installed.

Well, I hope this might help. Looking at another thread for this solution I have seen the install log of another user and found this link below.
It leads directly to the Safari 7.1 package in Apple servers. I clicked on it expecting it will probably give me a timout but, no, it started downloading the .pkg file for safari 7.1
http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/52/24/031-05306/ejsgyg0iatqosbvktr9jlam sm28k0yfoaf/Safari7.1Mavericks.pkg
I think it was a bug on app store, some users got the update even though they shouldn't and on some computers it went ok and some not, I do not know why. For me and my wife, it went smoothly for two computers out of three we have. I am downloading the package right now but I feel like it might give mixed results  since the 7.1 update also crashed completely for some rather than just not updating. So my best bet is to wait for a proper update rather than tinkering around.
Yosemite should be on its way for the end of the month and I am guessing it will come with safari 7.1

  • Safari and Quicktime Update Problem & Shut-Down Problem

Hi, recently my macbook ran the automatic software update. After I clicked the ''restart'', the installation was stuck (the blue bar never grew). Then I had to push the button to shut the machine down manually. Ever since then, the machine can never be shut down, except manual shutting-down.
Can anyone help me out here?
    Thanks a lot!

Hm. I"m seeing the same problem. Will track replies to this message! Fingers crossed.

  • HT1222 Safari 7.1 Update causing Flash Player Problems.

I installed the latest Safari 7.1 update and now my flash player videos are messed-up.  I either see "HTML 5" or "FLASH" in gray boxes.  This is especially a problem for me on YouTube because I can't multitask while watching a video.  If I switch to another tab, the video stops playing.  Also, the video player isn't YouTube's, with the usual options like "Play Later" or choosing the mid-sized screen.
I performed a complete, proper, clean install of Flash Player but this didn't resolve the issue.  Is anyone else having this issue?  Any ideas how to fix it?

Never mind.  It was an issue with ClickToPlugIn.

  • Keychain access problems after Safari 3.1 update?

I recently installed the Safari 3.1 update. Two other updates were available and I installed them at the same time. One was a security update - I don't recall the other (and, strangely, the update log is blank). After this update, I received the message that "Safari has been changed and moved, so you need to grant permission for access to the Keychain." I selected "allow all" and things seemed to progress.
The next time I started Safari, the same message. I again selected "allow all", but the program hung. I forced it to quit, tried again, same result. I ran the system maintenance programs, repaired permissions, etc. (using Cocktail) and got the same result. Keychain Access itself seems to hang and becomes unresponsive. Firefox appears to be unaffected, but I don't use it as much.
The problem seems to be with Safari 3.1 - has anyone else experienced this problem? If I uninstall Safari, download and install 3.1 over again, is there a way to save my bookmarks and cookies to reimport?

In installing the Safari Update (along with Quicktime 7.4.5, iTunes 7.6.2, and Security Update 2008-002 for Power PC), I found my Mac Mini slowed to a crawl and persistently displayed the "beach ball of death" for extended periods of time just starting up ANY program for the first time. Just restarting the computer took forever and trying to use Disk Utility did nothing.
I have talked with a friend whose son had all sorts of problems with his newer i-mac upon installation of this Safari update. I am crawling along with my machine right now, not one bit happy.
I have no answers, just a note to show I also am having problems since this update. Keychain? Never use it. I am thinking of just trying to re-install the older Safari version-3.04. Suggestions?

  • OS X 10.5.8 Running VERY slow since installing Safari and itunes updates.

Installed latest Safari and itunes updates today. When my OS restarted the install took a really long time and since then the computer is so slow its un-usable. Its a Macbook Pro, 2.6 intel dual thingy (the model just before the uni-bodies came out).
I have down the PRAM reset and tried launching in safe mode. Neither or these made any difference.
I then started with an install disk installed and while holding down C. Again, it took a long time to boot, but once in that mode I launch the various utilities etc. So I opened disk utility and verify and repair disk...but it found no problems.
Perhaps I should have repaired disk permissions?
Also I thought this might be a lose ram issue or something. I don't have a screw driver to open up RAM slot and re-seat it, but also in 'about this mac' it can see the ram...?
I am very frustrated right now! What have i done to my computer?!
It was running 100% fine until I did this software update.
...and when I say it is running slow, to give an example clicking Apple/N in finder takes maybe 5 for that window to appear followed by another few minutes of the whirling wheel of death. Then I can click on the next item (apps for instance) and go through a similar wait.
    argh!

No very clear idea of why it is behaving like that Samuel, but in 95% of cases it is some third party add-on, not yet updated for Safari 5, that is the cause.
Please peruse the following, particularly with respect to Open DNS settings:
    Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 4.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • ISSUE WITH SAFARI 3.1 UPDATE

I am having the same issue that many people are having with the safari 3.1 update. I have a Macbook pro, mac OSX 10.4.11, I downloaded the safari 3.1 update and I got an error during installation. Now safari, itunes, yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, softwar update, and a few other programs will not open. I have called Apple and told them about my problem and that there are many other people having this problem. They said they have not received any other calls about this issue and I find that hard to believe since I see so many people posting bulletins about it. I have tried installing the update using the terminal and I have tried disk repair, and I have tried using Pacifist to install the update. Non of them worked. If anybody has another idea please let me know. For everybody else that has the same problem please call Apple to let them know. If enough people call them maybe they can put out a new update that can fix this issue. Thank you.

  • Unable to connect to network with Safari and Software Update

A user I support has encountered a problem with networking. He is unable to connect to the network with Safari and Software Update, but IS able to connect and surf with Foxfire and some other programs. Another unusual symptom is that he actually can connect to one web site (which is in his Bookmarks Bar) with Safari, but can't connect to anything else. He's also unable to navigate off of that one site he connects to. When he runs Network Diagnostics, he gets all green lights (no problems). He has fixed permissions, deleted Safari Cache and .plist, rebooted - not fixed yet. He's using 10.4.8 on a PowerPC G4. Any ideas appreciated (this is the wierdest I've seen in a while!).

Here's what he did. After reading your post, he created another location in his network preferences, entering EXACTLY the same info that was in his old location (he even used the old DNS addresses), except using a new location name. Then he chose the new location and "everything worked". It's one of life's great mysteries. Thanks for your help - it is appreciated.

  • Any fix to Lion 10.7.5 update problems?

I have a 2009 macbook pro that has always run perfectly.  That is until I just downloaded the Lion 10.7.5 "update".  What is did was make me very disappointed in Apple.  Safari opens but that's it.  It won't navigate anywhere.  Blank screen.  Also, I can't drag and drop anything.  Including files to folders, email to folders, or items on the dock.
I've read about countless problems with this update in a couple of different forums.  It seems that Apple released an unstable update but is not openly addressing it.
When I was a Windows drone I knew enough about the registry and other ways to try and "fix" it.  I even came to expect the constant problems from Microsoft's "updates".  I never expected anything like this from Apple, my computer is out of warranty, and I really don't have a clue what to do at this point.
Is anyone aware of an "easy" fix or know if Apple is addressing this (a link would be very heplful).
    Thanks in advance!

Found my Seagate external drives.  500gb each.  Apparently they only work with Windows according to the pdf file.  Can't imagine why a hard drive isn't just a hard drive.  Oh well, guess I have to go look for one.
Seagate makes external drives for both Windows and the Mac but the main difference is in the formatting. There are instructions on Seagate's website about formatting the PC drives to work with a Mac and it's essentially the same process. I can't say for sure if formatting them that way will allow them to boot a Mac OS installation. I've been through 3 of Seagate's externals and found that even when formatted for the Mac, there is a hidden MBR (master boot record) which seems to interface with the external's hardware. I couldn't test them for booting because they were connected via USB 3.0 to a PCIe card in a Mac Pro which doesn't support booting.
Anyway, assuming each Seagate drive is big enough to handle the entire contents of your internal drive, you can clone it for backup and then try to boot from it. If you have to completely reinstall the OS on your internal, you'll be able to use Migration Assistant to restore everything from the clone you've made. But before you do, you should try running from the clone to see if the problems you're having are still present. If not, the issue might be with your internal HD. You should also try running the combo updater from the clone (if you can boot from it) with the internal as the target to see if installation will be allowed.
Finally, if Safari is the only problem, you might consider simply using a different browser. Firefox is stable, and with a remarkable range of extensions, very flexible. Or, take a look at this forum thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4148675?start=15&tstart=0. In the middle of page 2 is a link (http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/37/23/041-5058/lr5tynbldi18zcrqo8a8uq8 8rnjushqliu/Safari6Lion.pkg) to what looks like an installation just of Safari 6. I have no experience with it but it seems to have solved the issue for many posters, aka use at your own risk. The big problem seems to be that you need a browser to get it and your browser isn't working, but even a temporary installation of something like Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop) can get it for you. To be safe, you might want to try this after you make your clone.

  • Safari won't update to 1.3.1

I know that I have an old mac, i've just inherited it from a family member and i'm trying to learn my way around it before I think about whether I want to get a newer one. I know Windows pretty much inside out, but Mac OS is still a mystery to me.
When I received it, Safari claimed to be v1.2(125), even though the OS wax updated to 10.3.9. I have seen mention of this online, but no solutions that seem to apply to me. I have used Pacifist to update back to 1.3 (by simply dragging Safari from the update package to my applications folder), but it still won't let me update to 1.3.1.
I have repaired permissions and rebooted since moving to 1.3, but still no luck.
My main problem is that Safari crashes every time I try to do a google search (from the top right box or from the google page). The crash report I get is below, can anyone tell me what the problem is?

It would seem that something is telling the 1.3.1 installer that I already have it (or a later version).
Yes, that's possible. My memory of Tiger is fading and I never had Panther, but check in Hard Drive/Library/Receipts/boms folder, for any files relating to Safari, and delete them. The try installing again.
You said you updated your OS to 10.3.9 - from what?
Your crash report makes heavy mention of Javascript (not to be confused with Java) and this could be the cause of the problems with Google.
Let's face it - you have a hugely outdated operating system on an obsolete computer. Don't expect it to be able to do everything on today's internet!

  • Safari slow since update

I ran the security update last night and now Safari is noticably slower.
Before it executes any action there is a fractional pause. Such actions include typing in the Google search box or this text box. Also accessing pull-down menus from my favorites toolbar and loading pages.
I'm finding it irritating as I was using Safari instead of Firefox because I was already getting the same kind of sluggishness from Firefox - understandably as it's running in Rosetta - whereas Safari was very fast.
Has anyone else had the same reaction? I heard in some instances Safari wouldn't open for some people.

  • Safari, iTunes, software update iCal not connecting. Firefox is fine. Tried Proxies, but not sure what to do there. Only one box was checked, I unchecked it, and made no difference. Have also tried some other DNS numbers, nothing worked yet.

    Hi There,
Safari, iTunes, software update iCal not connecting. Firefox is fine.
I have found some archieved discussions about this, but none that went  into detail about how to fix problem using proxies - I don't really  understand what they are/ do.
I went into the Proxies screen, Only one  box was checked, "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" I unchecked it, and made no  difference. There was also some stuff written in the "Bypass proxy settings for these hosts and domains" I deleated that and nothing different happened. Have also tried some other DNS numbers,  nothing worked yet.
    Any suggestions?

I still have no idea what was wrong with Safari last week, but I opened it today, and its all working! Hurrah!
Woohoo! I'm a great fan of things fixing themselves. Fingers crossed in New Zealand for no further problems.

I really hope you can help, I'm totally unable to do any work or access many applications.
    Thanks in advance,

    VB --
Like baltwo said, there's something wrong with the installation.
And because Safari hasn't been able to install properly, all your other internet dependent apps are failing, as well.
Are you on a reliable ISP? One that would not have a problem with a large install?
Do you have access to another Mac?
Did you migrate from a PPC to an Intel Mac?
This crash log is from June 13th.
Do you have a more recent one???

  • Slowdown of safari after latest update ?

Anyone have the same problem with Safari after latest update: very slow especially when downloading images ?
    MacBook Pro Retina 15"
    Yosemite 10.10.3

There are many possible causes for problems with web browsing. Below are some simple steps that may help either to solve the problem or isolate the cause.
Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Restart your router and also your broadband device, if they're separate.
    2. If you connect to the the router with Wi-Fi, turn off Wi-Fi and then back on.
    3. If you connect with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi.
    4. If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed.
    5. Select the Extensions tab in the Preferences window. Turn all extensions OFF and test. If there's an improvement, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
    6. If you're running OS X 10.10 or later, select the Search tab. Uncheck the box marked
              Enable Quick Website Search
    if it's checked.
    7. If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Quit and relaunch the browser.
    8. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest.
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    9. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
    10. If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test.
    11. If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test.
    12. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the boxes marked Safari and Photos, if they're checked.
    13. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and if so, are they affected?
    14. If you can, test Safari on another network.
    15. Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
