Safari 7 not permitting saved websites/favorites

Since upgrading to Mavericks/Safari 7.0, I am unable to retain saved websites. When I quit and restart Safari, the websites are gone.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
What is the Modified date?
If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

    Safari Problems
Safari - Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

My safari will not upload any website please help.

You may have more than one issue, but the most important one is that your internal hard drive is failing, or there is some other hardware fault.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Safari will not open certain websites

    Aloha,
I'm new to mac, and so far so good. The problem is that I can't get safari (or firefox) to open certain websites. The one that bugs me the most is https://www.navo.navy.mil/products/geo.htm . I use it to get weather information that is not available in more mainstream sites.
It is a military product, and what I should get is three windows/frames/boxes that
when you click one thing, it gives you options for the next box, which opens information that you want.
This site works, in pc no problem (win98, win2000, XP, running firefox, ie or opera). Is there a work around to this problem? Is there another browser that will open this site up in mac?
I've tried to find this information elsewhere to no avail. In my business it's essential information.
    Help please!
Oh, and how do I find out what version os I'm running?
    Mahalo Chris

    Hi Chris,
    Welcome to Discussions.
I'm not sure what the Navy site is supposed to look like, but it appears to load ok in both Safari 3.0.3 (public beta for OS X 10.4) and Camino 1.5.3. Here's a screenshot of what I see:
I can't seem to access any data though as each search tells me the service is temporarily unavailable (is that expected?). What do you see when you try to enter this website?
Oh, and how do I find out what version os I'm running?

  • Safari is not opening certain websites

it seems ever since the latest software updates on Safari and Security preferences a couple of weeks ago I have been having problems loading websites that have loaded before with out any problem. I put in the websites and they try and load and they just hang there and I can find any reason why they dont load .They are not problems with the websites because i have another website (http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/) in which I can type in an address to check if something is wrong with there server or if its my problem.
I am not super techie but I have tried some things through forums searches such as trying Open DNS (i think thats what is is ) and doing other things that have been recommended in order to fix the problem I am having ut nothing seems to work thus far.
I was hoping someone might be able to help me fix this problem because I am going mad. These are just some of the website that were working before but not any more
    http://beautifuldecay.com/
    http://jakedavis.typepad.com/jakedavis/
    http://www.manystuff.org/
    http://www.ns.nl/
I have looked at my activity window and for the beautiful decay website out of 14 items it is able to load 13 and seems to hang or get stuck on this line
    http://d1.openx.org/spcjs.php?id=14416&target=_blank
with the message 0 bytes of ? I dont know what that means in the end after a while it say 1 error that same line and a gray grayed out cancelled remark after it
for the ns.nl page i get this message
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.ns.nl/” because the network connection was reset. This problem can occur if either the server or the network connection is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.
which is strange because it would load it fine before the update
the other two website as far as the activity window is concerned show no info while they are trying to load
Any help I would greatly appreciate, also any direction given may have to be very specific since i am not used to having to fix any technical problems on my mac so am unfamiliar for the most part where any special settings and such would be that you wouldn't use on a daily basis
thanks to any one that can lend a hand

Just for clarification these are the things i have tried already
set up my computer to an open DNS system
    Disk repair
    Reset Safari
    cleared cache
    deleted this file. com.apple.safari.plist
I went into the terminal window and copy pasted a cache clearing command from one of the forums but that didn't seem to work because it gave me a message like unknown command or something like that
and i think thats about it for now. I f there is any way to fix this i would appreciate any help as i am first time user of the forum
    thanks

  • Safari will not load any website

    Hi all
Safari (7.0.2)  stopped working on my MacBook pro. It won't load any website, but Firefox works fine!
I have tried resetting safari, but it did not help me.
    Just stops as shown below.

    1. Power cycle
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.
         It will take a   while.
         Restart the computer.
    2. Turn off Extensions, if any

  • Safari does not load the website

    Hi,
    I am running MAC OS X 10.4.7 using Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3).
Ever since I started using this computer (1 week back) Safari just does not load the pages. The website that I am trying to load is http://www.apple.com/startpage/ or the default page of Safari as installed. This also happens with many other pages.
The browser starts loading the page and the blue bar just stops mid way and nothing happens post that. I have waited for almost 20mins for it to load, however that never loads. If I press the Stop button, I do see the partial HTML thats loaded in the browser, but the page never loads completely.
My internet connection is fast, since I am able to load the same page or any other page in FireFox with no problems.
Can you please support me with what to look at to resolve this problem?
Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi! Yes I have experienced similar difficulty with Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6). Although I am using Safari to browse this site now, it does seem prone to reject some sites. When it works it work beautifully. There must be a gremlin glitch in there somewhere!
All I can suggest that that you switch to another browser such as Netscape 7.2 or Firefox to resolve this issue as and when it happens.
    Happy surfing!

  • Safari will not load my website. Driving me totally insane.

Okay. This problem is pretty much UNSOLVABLE and if anybody can help me get to the bottom of this, I will be their best friend for eternity. Every single support person I have asked has had no idea how to fix this.
    THE PROBLEM:
My portfolio website loads *extremely* slowly in Safari. Only Safari. Safari on every single computer, iPhone, iPad, and iPod I have tried.
Strangely enough, the problem seems to be contained SOLELY to my host's server. When I upload my site files to a server hosted by a different company, Safari loads the site fine.
Here are some images to show you what I'm dealing with.
The site loading in Safari on my current server: http://maxigumee.com/HOSTONY_IMAGE.jpg
The site loading in Safari on a *different* server (it's totally fine): http://maxigumee.com/godaddy_image.jpg
Here is my *actual* website file: http://maxwelltielman.com
Just to clarify— I have already gone through the steps of validating the HTML and stripped the site completely of CSS and extraneous code so that only the images were displayed. The problem still persisted.
The problem occurs whenever I visit my site for the first time on a computer, reload the website, or empty the cache.
I've e-mailed my host numerous times about this and they have been nothing but useless on the matter. They have informed me that the site loads fine in Firefox (not helpful) and that their server is fine.
What should I doooo? I'm on the verge of ripping my hair out in frustration.

There are many elements to slow performance and it's likely to be an iterative process to solve the issue.
That said, there are some differences that are having an effect.
First off, are you, or the majority of your clients in the Ukraine? If no, why host your site there?
If you're NY-based I'd expect you to be pitching to NY-based clients, so moving your site to someone who has servers in or around New York would make a big difference - it would eliminate some 300-400ms latency on every request.
    There's also a difference server-side that's affecting your site.
For every Safari-hit the server closes the connection immediately after serving the requested file. This contrasts to Chrome where the server uses Keep-alives to allow the next request to traverse the same connection. Forcing Safari to initiate a new connection (with its associated 400ms latency) for each object is contributing to the problem. This is not something that you can control from the client side - the server is forcing the connection closed, so it's absolutely something your hosting provider should be taking care of.
In addition to that, your cache headers are wrong. You're not properly caching your data, which forces the browser to make more round-trips (there's that 400ms round trip delay again), only to be told that the image hasn't changed. Again, this is something that's controlled server-site... the server should be telling the client to cache the data and not bother re-requesting it for some period of time.
That said, it's not all about your hosting provider (although I have to wonder why they're setup the way they are - do they charge by the number of hits to your site?). There are some design elements in your page that are adding to the delay.
For example, your image rotator is pre-loading all the images, but the images are not properly tagged and as such they block the page render (the browser has to load the image before it can decide how to render the page). Adding size tags to these images might help, but ideally they should be lazy-loaded via a javascript that's triggered on the DOM Complete event (so they're loaded after the page has finished drawing, without blocking the page render).
Since these are used in an image rotator they are not initially displayed and therefore could be lazy-loaded during the 'thinking time' while the viewer is reading your page, deciding where to click next.
Unfortunately, this is one of the tricker design elements to code because each browser acts a little differently. Cleaning up your HTML, though, should help.
So that's my first pass... like I said there are likely to be multiple components to this
It also shouldn't be too hard to load your site onto a closer server to see how much that latency is adding to your site. I think you might be surprised (unless, like I said, your clientele are in the Ukraine/eastern Europe, in which case it makes sense to host it there).

  • Safari will not open certain websites (Google, etc)

Hello all. I bought a MacBook a few months back and safari worked fine for about a month. Then I noticed it wouldn't access Google and other pages (ABC.com, NIN news, etc). I've read most of the threads regarding this kind of problem, but the suggestions haven't worked. I noticed most of the threads were more than a year old, so I figured I'd ask to see if anyone is encountering this problem right now and any suggestions they may have on how to fix this issue.
    Thanks ahead of time!

    Hi Opheilia13,
Do you get any messages when you can not access these sites?
Do you use a router & is it up to date on firmware?
See if this topic helps you any. Also check that your routers firewall is configured properly,so that it is not blocking Google & the other sites you mention.
Which do work for me on same os 10.4.8 & Intel macbook pro & powerbook. It is something specific to your browser user name or system.
The other issue could be Net Barrier, do you use that Firewall? Read
    Andyball_uk's reply here
Another still could be DNS# lacking in your Dns# servers in the Networks
TCP/IP tab... Find your ISP and the DNS#.
    What have you tried?
Have you tried another user, or Test account, to see if this is an issue
specific only to your username account or system wide. If not I would try that test. Please let us know.

  • Safari will not open any address that I type into address bar

When I type an address into Safari's address bar Safari does not open that website, it does nothing. Also if I enter something in the search box Safari does not go to the Google site.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You may have a corrupted preference file or Toolbar item.
First, open Safari, hold down the option key, then click and drag the Address Bar off the top part of the browser window. It ought to disappear in a puff of smoke.
Next, go to your View Menu>Customize Toolbar. There, you can drag a new address bar back up to the bar, as well as any other icons on the panel. Select "done".
Now try entering an address. If that doesn't solve the problem, go to your Finder. In your User Account>Library>Preferences folder, move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari. This step creates a new Safari preference file. You'll need to open Safari preferences to customize the settings to their previous state, unless you are satisfied with the Default settings.
    Try entering an address.

  • "Allow AutoFill even for websites that request passwords not be saved." not appearing in Safari 7.0.3 prefs

A December 2,  2013 Apple FAQ says that you can go to Mavericks:Safari:Preferences:Passwords and select "Allow AutoFill even for websites that request passwords not be saved."
However, this checkbox does not appear.
The features and management of iCloud Keychain are causing concern among users.
I share these. For example, today I chose to let Safari produce a complex password for a Chase credit card site. Yet, when I went back to that site to sign in, I could not. Nor was that password in the list on Safari!
This is not good. For iCloud Keychain to be trusted, it must be very reliable, and we must be allowed to manage it.
I was forced to reset the password for Chase, and had to refuse Safari's offer to use their suggested password (as I would possibly never see it again!)

    Safari version 7.0.4
That option is no more available.
