Safari 8.0 Extensions

Hi,
I am having a problem with Safari extensions after updated to Yosemite. Every time I close the Safari, the extensions uninstalled automatically and I have to install them again and again every time. I couldn't figure it out why that happens. Anyone else has the same problem? Some help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Mini 10.8.2  I have tried restarting Safari & checking  for extensions!

When I try to go to Face Book, Safari gives me a message that it can  not establish a secure connection to Face Book!
I have a MAc Mini  Version 10.8.2  Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3   I have tried resetting Safari, and have checked for Safari Extensions!

This is not a Parental control account!  I have dial up and it takes a loooong time to download large files. I tried downloading Google Chrome to replace Safari and the downlaod was almost complete, when it timed out. Then I tried to download Firefox and it said I did not have permission to download!
Even if I could download the latest version of Safari ,I read that it has problems too! I am pretty disappointed in Apple right now! I bought this Mac Mini a little over a year ago and everything worked fine until this past week! I can get my e-mail and surf the web, but cannot access Face Book anymore!

  • HT5218 Safari versions and Extensions

I run OS X Lion 10.7.3 and only ever update my software through Apple Software Update. I kept getting an error message when trying to load Safari Extensions and was told it was a Safari problem.  I now find that I have Safari is 5.1.5 running which appears to be Mac OS X Server v10.6 software NOT LION software. So I've no idea how I got Safari 5.1.5.
I tried to trash Safari 5.1.5 so I could load 5.1.4 (for Lion), but get a message that it can't be deleted as OS X needs Safari to run.
I tried to reload Safari without trashing 5.1.5, but get a message that I have a newer version so can't load 5.1.4.
Every time I try to load Safari Extensions I get an error message.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Okay, did that
(by the way, the EXTENSION Folder has a red circle with a white line through it in the bottom right hand corner.)
    The Permissions read:
    "System: Read & Write"
    "Everyone: No Access"
That would be your problem. The red circle means it cannot be examined by you, which is born out by the permissions. It should belong to you, not the System.
Let's try this. Highlight the ~/Library/Safari/ directory (folder) and do Get Info on it.
Click on the padlock at the very bottom of the window and when the dialog opens with your name in it, enter your password.
Click on the Gear symbol to the left of the padlock and select "Apply to enclosed items".
Click "OK" in the are you sure dialog.
That should take care of it.
The Disk Utility Repair Disk Permissions read:
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
Group differs on “Library/Java”; should be 0; group is 80.
    Permissions differ on “Library/Java”; should be drwxr-xr-x ; they are drwxrwxr-x .
    Repaired “Library/Java”
ACL found but not expected on “Library/Extensions”
    Repaired “Library/Extensions”
    Permissions repair complete
That looks OK, but does not appear to have corrected your problem. I don't have a Library/Extensions on this Mac, but it's running Leopard.
It's way past my bed time, so I'm going to have to sign off. If you still have issues I'm sure someone else can take it from here or I'll be back in a few hours.

  • Safari 5, installed extensions disappeared

    I had two installed extensions.
    user@host:~$ls -1 ~/Library/Safari/Extensions/
    -rw-r--r--@ 1 user staff 16212 Jul 11 16:38 Add to Google Reader.safariextz

    -rw-r--r--@ 1 user staff 165 Jul 14 20:01 Extensions.plist
    (username changed to user)
but as you can see here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/361483/screenshots/safari5missingextensions.png
Safari 5.0 will not load them. They were working last yesterday. My last system update was on July 11th 2010 which included Safari 5 and OSX 10.6.4 so it was not any system update that could have caused this.
What should I do to fix this and should I file a bug report somewhere?

HI Brad and welcome to Apple Discussions..
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon.
Now open the Library folder, the Safari folder, and the Extensions folder. Move the Extensions.plist file to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.
You may need to troubleshoot the Safari .plist file also. Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

None of these things worked. Deleting Extensions.plist just resulted in Safari creating a new one with an empty installed extensions array instead it.
I was able to copy the extensions to the desktop and reinstall them. (So I didn't have to go looking for them online.) They seem to have kept their settings so it's more of a minor annoyance than a major one. Should I file a bug report?

  • Safari cluttered with extensions I didn't install

In a stroke of brilliance I installed an application that I in my ignorance thought were a client for torrents dl and now it's eating up my safari. Is there any way to clear these "extensions" or "malware" or whatever they're called? They don't show up in the safari preferences. Thanks

You probably installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised the value of Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Safari 6 "Twitter Extension"

The Twitter extention in Safari 6 on Mountain Lion does not work. No trends, no Twitter and I'm logged in. I can browse to Twitter and use it well. The extension in the browser toolbar does not work. Does anyone know how to fix this ?

As far as I know this has been an issue since Safari 5.1 - the general concensus is that the Twitter dev team abandoned the extension and or it's just faulty. I have the same issues and I've looked up plenty of ways to fix it and I can't seem to find anything. I've tried getting rid of it and reinstalling and that didn't seem to help.

  • Safari & AirTunes (AirPlay) extension?

    Hi,
I have often wondered if I can connect what playing on my Safari (online radio which doesn't load in iTunes) to my AirPort Express. But a brief web search uncovered nothing out there for either a plugin or extension or setting to connect Safari to the AirTunes ability.
It seems like that would really be a cool thing to integrate.

  • Safari dumping history, extensions, etc. on restarts

Safari 5.0.5 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8
is not saving History since June 17. (Obviously I apparently did something, or had something done to me, on that date, but I can't figure it out for the life of me.)
is not saving any downloads. after restarting Safari it's all gone back to June 17
clears out all extensions on restarts
Mail also refuses to save new settings, which isn't that big a deal because I use Yahoo, but it won't let me set the client setting for email calls.
I recently (three weeks) did a reinstall of Snow Leopard (actually the apple store did it for me) and it has not been an easy re-install from time machine, but I've been able to rebuild piecemeal between what TM would do and some other backups I had on Mozy.
This is driving me bonkers, so anything you can offer to help get this fixed would be good. Thanks.

ALSO... I have deleted the .plist file... no change except having to redo a lot of my preferences.
I just tried safari on another user account, and it's doing the same thing there, so I guess that makes it a system problem as opposed to a user problem?

That's an indication the startup disk may need repairing.
From your admin account, launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, then select the FirstAid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks.
It's possible the issues originate from your TimeMachine back up.

  • Safari 8.0 - Extensions have gone missing and vanished.

My safari extensions are gone - one day they just disappeared. I have tried to re-install them but when I quit safari the extensions are missing again.
I have restarted the computer and still nothing.
I have turned extensions off and on and restarted and still nothing.
I have even tried /Users/~/Library/Safari/Extensions and deleting the folder but it didn't do anything.
Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Apple stores a list of installed extensions in Keychain Access. Delete it.
Launch Spotlight and enter keychain in the search bar.
    Click Keychain Access icon.
When Keychain Access window opens, enter “extensions” in the search box at the top right corner.
When Safari Extension List” shows up, highlight it, right click on it and choose  “Delete Safari Extensions List”.
    Quit Keychain Access.

    Hi,
GlimmerBlocker works wonders for pop up and under ads. It's free and easy to use. Compatible with Snow Leopard and Safari 5. You can access the software after installation from your System Preferences pane.

  • Safari uninstalled all extensions

    What in the world happened?
Mac Pro 2008, OSX Lion Latest, Safari latest.
Went to the ~/Library folder and reinstalled them all and the settings were intact. Not sure why this happened.

Same as BasementJack, my Safari 5.1.7 (MacBook Air mid-2012; Lion OS 10.7.4) gave me an error box saying that none of my already installed extension works after I connected to a VPN and opened Safari to access websites. I had to re-download and re-install the extentions.
