Safari 8 Favourites Bar, centralised bookmarks

Hello,
On Safari 8 through Yosemite.
I don't like how bookmarks are now centrally justified on the Favourites Bar - anyone know if that can be reset to usual left hand justification?
Thanks
K

OK, so it seems that I have to disable Show Favourites in the preferences under Search to get around this issue.  Even though, does this still count as a bug?

  • Have I lost my history and bookmarks after ticking 'don't keep' on new safari browser favourites bar?

so i recently downloaded yosemite and when I saw the favourites page on the new safari favourites page, i can't remember exactly what it said but it was something like ' here are some of your bookmarks and history, would you like to  keep it/don't keep it and I clicked don't keep. Does that delete them completely form safari? or just from that bar?

also just to clarify things I was able to merge a 20megabyte sqlite file with a 75megabyte sqlite file somehow magically using firefox sync's 25megabytes of storage and the result was somehow only 82megabytes? which I don't quite get, and It only used 23megabytes of my sync storage?
none of the entries are missing though, and the history merge is entirely live and functional, it's great! hooray! (maybe date visited type data was lost but I never cared about)
really the only thing I need from my history is to work like bookmarks that aren't as important as bookmarks in the formula which suggets url's to me when i type in 2or3 letters, anyways... all the answers out there telling people to copy history into a bookmark folder and export... don't do it! it's bad advice there is no way to convert bookmarks back into history entries... and importing 60,000bookmarks from an html file crashes firefox anyways!! (almost always)
anyways firefox sync rocks hooraaaay I can't believe that actually worked!

  • Favourites bar missing in Safari on iPad

I appear to have lost the favourites bar in Safari on my iPad (3rd Gen) IOS 8.3
All settings have been switched off and on again in the settings menu nothing has returned
If I select Bookmarks I can see all my bookmarks however, all my favourites appear to be blank.
When I check my MBPs they are showing favourites.
Could it be a sync issue?
    Any help would be appreciated.
PS It also has been freezing more since the upgrade to 8.3

i have tried that again, still no luck.
I Have attached 3 screen shots one from Safari gener and two from the  browser

  • I want to delete my favourites under favourites bar, on Safari home page

The grey side bar has a Favourites Bar.  I want to delete the list.  I also have favourites on the top ribbon which I am trying to get rid of?

Click the Bookmarks icon to open the Sidebar.
Then hold down the Shift key and select all the website names then right or control click then click Delete.
That will delete the same sites from the Favorites bar running horizontally across the Safari toolbar.

  • I have imported bookmarks from Safari to Firefox but the bookmarks bar does not change in Firefox and match that of Safari. That's the part I need most. Any ideas why? Also, I don't see where to choose for Firefox to be my default browser.

I use a Imac with OS 10.6.7. I've just uploaded Firefox 4. I had Firefox 3 already but do not use it often. I've been using Safari. I imported bookmarks from Safari to Firefox, but the bookmarks bar in Firefox did not change to match that of Safari, and that's where the important bookmarks are. Any ideas?
Also, I can't find where to choose Firefox as my default browser.

Copy the files from the old Profile into the new Profile, replacing the existing files that are in the new Profile. That will make your new installation just like the old one.
Or if you just want your bookmarks, copy only the '''places.sqlite''' file from the old Profile into the new Profile.

  • Why can't I enlarge safari bar and bookmarks bar so the print is larger.  I can only do this if I change resolution on display.  I do not want to make my 27" smaller.  Any comments?

After just installing Mountain Lion on mid 2011 iMac 27" I find it does not allow increasing size of font for Safari bar and Bookmarks bar.  The print is so small it is difficult to see.  I can change resolution of screen but the the size of the screen becomes smaller.  Not what I had in mind when I bought this iMac.  Is there any fix out there and is Apple working on this problem?  Any comments would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Instead of a contacts button, you need to enable the Share button
From your Safari menu bar click View > Customize Toolbar
Drag the Share icon right up to the menu bar  (same the address bar, not Favorites)
If you want to send a webpage to a contact, click the Share icon then click Email This Page.

  • Removing 'Bookmarks Bar' and 'Bookmarks Menu' from Safari

Since installing Mountain Lion on my MBP, I've had Bookmarks Bar and Bookmarks Menu folders added to my mobile safari. It's pretty annoying now with Reading List and History, that my mobile bookmarks start halfway down the page.
Is there any way to remove them?

My title bar with the ability to close windows is not available.  I must hold the cursor at the top of the page to see my title with time, etc.

  • Safari won't display  "All Bookmarks"

Safari won't show the list of Bookmarks.
All I get is the small box in a footer bar with a + in it (add Bookmark Collection), and the previous page shows in the background of the window. The Bookmarks Bar is visible and works correctly, and the library of bookmarks can be exported, so they still exist.
If I try to open the "Show All Bookmarks" from the Bookmarks Menu with no window open, the result is a Safari page with the toolbar, Bookmarks Bar, address bar etc. showing but with a blank page in the body of the window. When I click on the Bookmark icon on the Bookmarks Bar, it will toggle to a page with "about: blank" in the address bar.
Safari is the latest version (3.1.2) which was updated a while ago.
This problem started today and updating to OS X 10.5.4 tonight didn't affect the problem.
    Anyone else have this happen?

It would be really very strange for you not to have the Safari .plist file ...
Try this: Open Safari, go to Safari > Preferences, go to the General section, and change the "New Window" setting to something different. If it currently is set to "Home Page," change it to "Empty Page," for example. Close the preferences window.
Now open a new Finder window. In the sidebar, click on the "house" icon with your username next to it. Open the Library folder in that window and then the Preferences folder inside that. Click the View menu in your menubar and choose "As List."
Click on the "Date Modified" column header, and click again on that column name if necessary so you have the most recent items at the top. The little triangle next to "Date Modified" will be pointing downwards, and the items at the top will have dates that say, "Today" with very recent times.
Did the com.apple.Safari.plist file appear at or very near the top of the list?

In safari, the space bar on the keyboard disappears when I try to type in the search bar?  (yet works fine when I tap the google search bar). Any suggestions?

    James Ward4 wrote:
Thats actually not a search bar. It's the address field. Frankly I hadn't noticed that the space doesn't display for the field, but it probably shouldn't. No well formed web address should have a space.
It should be noted however that the address bar is not strictly for URLs. You can also type bookmark names and history items (though not web searches). Here a space would occasionally come in handy. In fact when using an external keyboard it is possible to enter spaces in this field. So this is strictly a limitation of the on-screen keyboard.

  • Safari 8 Favorites bar contextual menu missing?

I used to be able to right click on a blank spot on the favorites bar in Safari and it would give me the option to add a folder.  Did this get removed from Safari 8 or am I missing something?

    Try this instead.

  • Deleting "Bookmarks Bar" and "Bookmarks Menu" folders from Bookmarks

    Hi all,
I synched my Safari Bookmarks...really didn't need to and now I don't want these "Bookmarks Bar" and "Bookmarks Menu" folders. Why can't I delete them?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Both of these menus can be deleted from Safari's iPhone bookmarks menu but the process is a little involved and requires the use of Property List Editor for the Developer Tools package.
If you have this, chances are you already know what to do, but otherwise you will need to download the Developer Tools package from Apple (and even on a fast connection) it is probably quicker to reload your iPhone from scratch.
    But just in case:
1a) Quit Safari on your computer.
1b) with you iPhone sync'd to iTunes, unselect the sync automatically box. (You can go back later, just do it for now.)
    2) Navigate to ~/Library/Safari/Booksmarks.plist file.
    3) Make a copy and rename it Bookmarks(original).plist. This is your backup file in case things go wrong.
    4) Launch Safari.
    5) Create a new folder called Bookmarks, or whatever you want your top level Bookmarks folder to be on your iPhone.
    6) Drag all folders and urls that you want for you iPhone into this folder.
    7) Arrange it the way that you want. You can also do this on the iPhone, but it is easier to do it here, than on the phone.
    8) QUIT SAFARI AND DO NOT RELAUNCH IT. (This is important, because you are going to edit this file to remove those folders and Safari will recreate them if you launch it.)
    9) Open your Bookmarks.plist file in the Property List Editor.
    10) Navigate to the Children arrow and expand.
    11) Select the "0" item and delete (That is the Bookmarks bar, or Bookmarksbar menu that Safari hard codes to the bookmarks list)
    12) Select the "1" item and also delete (This is the BookmarksMenu item)
    13) If you poke around in this file, you will notice the History, RSS feeds, and your top level menu that you created in #5.
    14) Save the modifications and close the Bookmarks.plist file, (save changes if prompted).
    15) DO NOT LAUNCH SAFARI (just a reminder)
    16) Launch iTunes and select the iPhone, DO NOT SYNC IT YET.
    17) Select the info tab, and scroll to the Web Browser section and select the "Sync Safari bookmarks" checkbox.
    18) Scroll to the Advanced section and select the "Bookmarks" checkbox.
    19) Click "Apply" and "Sync"
    20) wait for sync to complete.
    21) remove iPhone from cradle and check your Safari bookmarks. You should be good to go with the iPhone's Safari and its bookmarks, however you are not done yet.
    22) THIS IS IMPORTANT. For this modification to last, you have to go back to iTunes.
    23) reinstall the iPhone on the cradle, AGAIN DO NOT SYNC.
    24) go back to the "Sync Safari bookmarks" checkbox and unselect it. Then click the "Apply" button again. This will prevent Safari on your computer from syncing to Safari on your iPhone. If you ever do, with this box checked, those two pesky menus will reappear.
    25) You are done.
    Hope this helped,
    zac

  • Bookmarks?  Bookmarks Bar? Bookmarks Menu?

What is the difference between bookmarks, bookmarks bar and bookmarks menu? I've pretty much got the idea behind bookmarks bar and bookmarks menu, but what I don't get is bookmarks. I've been using bookmarks menu and bookmarks bar, but after syncing my new iPhone I know have discovered a 3rd set of bookmarks. Coming from Windows I'm used to just seeing something similar to bookmarks menu.

You might be seeing an all-encompassing category that represents all bookmarks. In Safari, click on the Bookmarks menu and choose "Show All Bookmarks." You're taken to the page where Safari lets you organize all of your bookmarks. Look in the left column and you'll see "Collections" and "Bookmarks." Collections stores the bookmarks that are visible/usable inside Safari; some are bookmarks imported from other web browsers or default sets of bookmarks that come with Safari. You can move items around from one section to another by dragging them.
