My Safari address field disappeared>  What happened?  How do I get it back?

If you notice the Show/Hide Toolbar menu it has a hotkey menu equivalent.  You probably accidently clicked the hotkey which is what toggled it off in the first place.

  • Safari address field not displayed

An address field used to appear at the top line of my Safari page. The address field is now missing and I'm unable to enter any url. I can surf the web only by clicking on existing bookmarks. How can I recover ?

    Hi rsquare,
Try either toggling View menu -> Show/Hide Address Bar or select View menu -> Customize Address Bar... and drag the entry box back onto your Address Bar.
    Hope that helps.

  • Jump up to Safari address field

This may be common knowledge but I missed in in the features guide until after it happened and I then re-read the guide.
To jump back up to the address field when you have scrolled down a page just tap on the grey status bar at the top of the screen.
I wish I had read that back in November.

Thanks! That's news to me, I obviously missed it in the guide too.
    cheers

  • Address field disappeared?

Does anyone know how to turn the Safari address field back on?
    It went away somehow.
I can't figure it out for the life of me.

I had the problem where the address field vanished from the toolbar and could NOT be restored via "Customize ToolBar". One could drag the appropriate icon onto the toolbar and one saw the green +sign, but nothing happened.
I stumbled across something which solved the problem. I dragged one of the icons (either the + for add bookmark or the stop/reload icon, I forget which bit most likely the bookmark +) OUT of the toolbar. Like magic the address field returned and "Customize Toolbar" works again
It sounds possible that your web browser window was narrow enough that it couldn't fit all of the items you had in the toolbar. Removing an item made enough space for the remaining items to all fit and appear in the toolbar.
In this situation, if you had widened your browser window (if that's a possibility considering the size of your screen), I think you would have seen the missing items appear in the toolbar.

  • I have lost my address field in Safari -how can I get it back

I have no address field in Safari any more. Only my home page comes up and I cant write over it to get another web page. Also google search bar disappeared.

I doubt you'll get off so easy, because it's probably the "H0" bug.
My self-made cook-book solution is to close Safari, and pull out the com.apple.safari.plist file from the ~/library/preferences/ folder.
Re-start Safari to generate a new preference file. Tadahhh.... And don't forget to re-toggle your auto-fill if you depend on it.

    Hi Janet ...
From your Safari menu bar top of your screen click View > Customize Toolbar
Drag up the default toolbar or individual objects.

  • I have lost the address field on the safari page

I have lost the address field from the safari header. How do I restore this?

I finallyfigured this one out. I couldn't get the customize screen to do anything until I tried to drag nothing. It worked. My first Mac was a SE and I thought I was pretty good on Macthink, but an additional direction would have helped immensly.

  • Address field has disappeared on Safari

The address field on Safari 4.1.3 on a Mac running 10.4.11 has disappeared. Worse, there is no function for open location and the keyboard command will not work either. I can only go to websites that are bookmarked.

    Hi,
From your Safari menu bar click View / Customize Toolbar.
Drag the default toolbar or individual items straight up to the toolbar area in your Safari window.

  • Address field dissappeared...

I'm still a bit unfamiliar with Mac's... So I was accidentally hitting the command button while clicking the address field. The field and the google bar dissappeared, I've gone through about every system prefence area... Tried resizing the window... Messing with tabbing and mouse things... But it won't let me edit the address bar through the customizing thing... It refuses to let me drag those items back into the bar.... Is there anyway to reset safari completely to get my address field back...

    LinWolf,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Go to Safari>View>Customize Address Bar...>Drag your favorite item into the toolbar...(Address and Search)
    ;~)
I see that my recommendation falls into...the customize thing.
You may want to Quit Safari, find the com.apple.Safari.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag it to the Desktop, then log out/in or restart and let us know what happens.

  • Address Field Hidden or Collapsed

When I open Safari, the address field (field where you type the url you want to go to) and the Google search bar is missing. It was there one moment, gone the next.
I can get it to show up temporarily by clicking "File>Open Location" but once it goes to the new address, they again disappear.
When I try to customize the toolbar by clicking "View>Customize Toolbar", both the address field and google search field shows up in the normal position even BEFORE I drag a new one of each to the toolbar. Once I drag them and then close the Customize window, the Window goes back to simply showing my bookmark shortcuts in the bar (Bookmark Bar) and the red, yellow and green buttons in the top left-hand corner along with the address of the page I'm currently on.
    Firefox is working fine.
Any ideas, please help. I've read other posts here and don't see an answer to my problem.
    Thanks,
    WCW

Thanks Barry. I had the same problem, and your suggestion worked immediately. I didn't have to re-boot the computer, only re-start Safari.
Before finding your suggestion, I had spent close to half an hour looking through Apple's Safari Help on my computer and online without finding anything remotely helpful.
