Safari all of a sudden very slow on one account

I am running OS 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.5 and all of a sudden Safari slowed to a crawl on one account.  It takes more than a minute to load a page.  Other apps are not having any problems.  After trying many things, including deleting Safari and reinstalling it, I read on another post to try and create a new account to see if Safari worked on that account.  Viola!  It works great on the newly created account.
What might possibly be the problem on my other account?  I did not make any changes.  However, I have several children who use the iMac and they might have done something.  I am not running any extensions.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  Thank you.

Update Safari >   Safari 5.1.10 for Snow Leopard
Restart your Mac after the update is installed then try Safari.
If Safari is still running slow...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click:   Remove All Website Data
Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If nothing above helped, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • My iMac is all of a sudden very slow - help?

My iMac is all of a suddden very slow and the incoming gmail is no longer working.  However my incoming mail works fine on my iPad and other devices? The slowness is on every thing?

First question to ask is: how much free space is still available on your hard drive?

  • Macbook Pro all of a sudden very slow.

My Macbook Pro has all of a sudden become very slow. The rainbow wheel shows up about every minute, and battery life has reduced a lot. I lost about 10% of my battery life within 10 minutes. It freezes all of the time. I recently upgraded to mountain lion about a month ago and everything has been fine since about 2 days ago. Any ideas on what it could be?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the slowdown.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • My printers have become all of a sudden very slow over my network when used with my Macbook. What could this indicate ?

My two printers on my network (HP 8500 All in one Officejet and Lexmark Pro 805)  have become very slow with processing and printing my documents. When printing, they have also made it not possible to do other applications on my Macbook until finished printing. WHat does ths point in the direction of ?

Empty your print queue of excess print jobs that didn't go through.
If you are within 1500 feet (500 meters) of someone who might connect wirelessly, make sure any wireless network you have is WPA2 encrypted, and not using 802.11b.  Reboot the printers, and any routers they may be connected to.

  • All of a sudden Very Slow Printing and Print to PDF

I am running OSX 10.4.11 on A G4. I was having no trouble printing to a HP2500. The time to print or print to a PDF was fast from all my applications. I am focusing on InDesign CS for this discussion. I changed recently to a HP 3600N and also to 10.4.11. Now it takes 1 hour to prepare a 28 page color document for printing. Once job is sent to the printer it takes about 3 minutes to actually print it. The slow rendering of the document also occurs when creating a PDF using the Print dialog. I tried the 2500 as a test and found the same problem. It appears that 10.4.11 is the culprit. I tried the same document on my iMac running an older OSX and I had no problem. I wish I had my back up drive still on 10.4.9 so I could check that out but alas I backed up and now have the 10.4.11 OS mirrored on that drive.
I am out of business until I can resolve this problem.
    Eagerly awaiting advice!
    Dan

Drive A is 60 GB with 3.66GB free.
Running OSX from that drive should really slow it to a Crawl, and is getting to the dangerous point... you need at least 12GB fre, 30 GB would be better.
Nt certain why the other is so slow... did you open Activity Monitor & observe CPU, Memory & such while it is slow?
If you can free some space on the Internal, Might give a try with Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • Safari PDF download is suddenly very slow

I recently updated my Acrobat Reader to version 8 - which seemed to work wonderfully in Safari (v2.0.4). Starting this week, March 4th, my Safari browser takes severely longer to open PDF files - many times taking so long that I'm forced to Force Quit out of Safari.
I have no idea of what changed - but something must have changed.
    Any ideas?

  • WebDav suddenly very slow

Today, WebDav became suddenly very slow on my iMac running the latest version of Mavericks. Yesterday everything was OK.
When I try WebDav from my iPad things are OK, so I suspect something is wrong on my iMac. I already tried rebooting and resetting PRAM and VRAM.
Does anyone have a good suggestion?

    Hello,
Check to see how much free disk space there is. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
Check the hard disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.

Scanning for a virus will be a waste of time.  To date there are no know virus' affecting Macs.

  • My all reports are running very slow now, I am using Reports 6i?

    Dear Friends,
My all reports are running very slow now, I am using Reports 6i. A few months ago there speed is better. Please suggest me the solution of this problem.
    Best regards,
    Shahzad

Get statspack/AWR running against your database and analyze the reports. 15 minutes interval between snaps should be enough.
That should give you a clue as to what is going wrong in your database.
Since you are saying that the reports speed was better a few months ago, it is possible that you are suffering from "data growth".

  • All apps running slow in one account and not the others on my iMac

I have iMac (intel) 20" with Lion 10.7.3 with 4 GB of RAM. The problems is that  one of my accounts all the applications run very very slow.
This account is one of two admin accounts. None of the other accounts have this problems. Does anyone have a suggest of what I can do.
I have tried reloading Safari, thinking it might be related to the recent flashback virus. I event downloaded a script from Mashable and they indicated that there was no Flashback Virus on my iMac. I also download that latest update from Apple for the JVM
So my questions is what is causing only one of my user accounts to be very very slow and it seems to be affecting all the applications.

Most likely corrupt or conflicting preferences files. While logged into the good admin account, backup the bad account's folder, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option (which stores the data in /Users/Deleted Users/ as a disk image), recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly. Resolving conflicts or identifying corrupt plist files is a laborious process. Good luck.

  • Finder being very slow on user account

    Hello,
I have a retina MacBook Pro with 16GB of ram. I am having an issue with finder being very slow on one of my user accounts, sometimes it is taking up to a 2mins to show the files in the folder. Also if often hangs and I get the beachball icon when clicking into folders and just using finder in general. This is on both local drives and network drives. I have 2 user accounts one for personal and one for work. My personal account has no problems and it is fast as I would expect from an SSD. My work account has all the same applications and I can't see anything obvious in activity monitor that would be causing it to be slow. I've thought about making a new user account but I would like to have all my settings etc the same as I have it set up just right now.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Andy

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.
