Safari always open minimized/freezes

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure how to change this. Whenever you open Safari, it opens at the top of the screen totally minimized to a small slit. When you click the green button it then opens but all all my bookmarks are missing. If I click and drag the tab sometimes that will fix it but other times it won't. It often freezes and I have to force close. Doses anyone have any insight? Thanks!

Hi,
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that OFF. Quit Safari (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari.
If it's not extensions, follow the instructions here for third party Safari plugins that may be causing this.
Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If third party plugins aren't the issue, login to another user account on your Mac. Launch Safari. See if you see the same problems, log back into your admin account. Launch Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the FirstAid tab. Click: Verify Disk. If Disk Utility reports problems, follow the instructions here for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks.

  • Safari always opens on a tab

I didn't use my computer for a few days. Now that I started using it again, I noticed that Safari always opens on a tab. I have Safari set up to open to a blank page and when I open Safari the blank page opens on a tab. I like tab browsing when opening links or browsing multiple pages, but if I'm only looking a one site, I don't want it to open on tab. I have looked in Safari's preferences and there is no way of removing this. Like I said, I don't want to disable tab browsing because it is useful when browsing multiple pages, but I don't want Safari to open on blank screen on a tab. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    P.S. I'm using Safari 3.1.2

So when you start Safari, you get the Tab bar automatically, right? If so, then you invoked that by accident. To get rid of it, press Command-Shift-T.

  • Safari always opens at the last web page viewed. How can I make google the default opening page?

On my iphone 4, safari always opens at the last page viewed. Does anyone know how I can set it to always open at google?

You can't but you can navigate to Google and add that to your homescreen as a shortcut.  Press the arrow on the bottom.

  • Safari always opens a linked file rather than download it.

Safari always opens a linked file rather than download it. Can't always Right Click for menu option as the web page is not setup that way.
Have tried trashing the Downloads.plist from the user library. Still no joy.
    Thanks anyone

    Hi guys
Thanks for suggestions. Carolyn, I did as you suggested but didn't solve problem. KeeChan, as explained in original post, that is my usual fallback but not all web sites work like that. Try downloading Safari - right click (Ctrl Click) on download button and all you get is the "Download.png" image.
I finally found the answer. A long time ago I had downloaded and used "SpeedDownload" and had deleted it. Somehow, some trace of the app was left behind and the mime association with dmg files was messed up.
You can not get rid of Speed Download by throwing its files away or by using an app cleaner product. You MUST run the Speed Download installer program and select the "uninstall" option to remove it.
My browsers now download dmg files correctly.

  • Flash Professional CC: Test Movie always opens minimized

If I want to test a flash movie using menu item "Control>Test", the movie always opens minimized. To open the movie at its design size (not minimized) I have to start Flash each time using "Shift|Ctrl|Alt" and then accept the User Account Control dialog box. How do I repair my instal so that I can open Flash Professional CC normally (by clicking on the shortcut only) and have my movies open at their design size when testing?

Same as your other post: Ask in the Flash forum.

  • Safari always opens up after boot on Mavericks

Hi, I'm having a problem with Safari opening all the time on Mavericks. tried all the basic ways of preventing this already. <making sure its turned off on the dock etc>. This all started up after Ghosting my old 250 gig HD on to a 1TB Drive. The page it always opens up on is rather random as I have never seen it before (luckily nothing dodgy looking) But its very annoying! The Software I used to copy my HD was S u p e r D u p e r - 100% sure its to blame!
Any help would be most appreciated !
    Thanks

If you are sure this software is to blame try removing it using App Cleaner, you find on the App Store, try this method instead of simply dragging the icon to the trash since this new method will delete other system files this application has created.
Go to Users and Groups, Select your user and in the Login Items make sure nothing is there (perhaps the itunes helper only). Uisng the minus sin located on the bottom delete any program on that list.

  • Safari Always Opens the Same Two Pages.

First off, I'm running Lion on my computer. So every time I open Safari in the last month or so, it always opens up to the same two pages: Macrumors, and some Netflix movie page I looked at once. No matter how many times I close these two pages, navigate away from them, close them and start with a completely new window, when I quit Safari, it's always them that open up. It completely disregards what I had open before (its supposed to open up to the pages I was last on when I quit). I know its not because they are set to my homepage. I have facebook set as that, and I just checked, so it's not like these two somehow got in there. I don't know what the deal is here, but it's starting to bother me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch the application and test. If there's no change, quit again and put the item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item you moved.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, Safari always opens to the last web page opened regardless of the preference settings.

Since the upgrade I cannot get Safari to open to the page selected in preferences.  I also find that all previously opened windows reopen when Safari is reopened.  How do I fix this?

Open General preferences and uncheck the option to "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps."
Applications will resume after restarts. If you wish you can change that behavior:
It's the Resume feature of Lion:
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.

  • Safari always opens last site visited on previous session

Something changed that keeps Safari from opening, on startup, anything other than the last page I visited on the last browsing session. Neither loging out, nor rebooting, chanes this situation. I have looked through all available threads and have not found a similar occurance. If I had three windows open during the last session, all three widows pop up when I restart Safari. I have reset Safari, and have set the home plage to blank; nothing appears to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, peter

My version of Safari (2.0.4) does not appear to have that command option. It sounds like it would be exactly what I need to de-select, but I do not see it on the history drop down, or within preferences. strange.

  • Safari wont open and freeze my computer

    Hi there,
I have a issue with safari "version 8.0.4".
I click the app on my dock, the app jump as usual, but after 30 seconds, the computer freeze, the mouse curser still working, but I can't open anything or do anything, and I have to shut down my laptop via the power button.
If somebody can help, it would be well appreciate.
    Thank you.
I have a Mc Book pro 15 inch
    OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
When you post the log extract or the crash report, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Safari always opens new windows/tabs

Every time I click on a link Safari opens a new window or tab instead of just going to that link in the window that I am in. So when I close Safari I have multiple pages/tabs open.  It used to just go from page to page without opening new windows or tabs. What setting needs to be changed to get back to the single window?

I figure out what the problem is. I set the Google search to open link in new window, and then it can be opened in tab with one tap. Thanks for help!

  • Safari always opens with "Welcome to Safari" screen. Home page not saved.

After a clean reinstall of Yosemite on our mid-2010 iMac and an upgrade to Safari 8.0.2, my partner is greeted with the "Welcome To Safari" screen each time he launches Safari.
In addition, his home page is not saved and the Favorites bar, which is set to be displayed by default, does not show.
My own Safari experience is unaffected.
Has anybody else experienced this and any suggestions on how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Occasionally (but not always), opening Firefox freezes/crashes my entire system. Why is this? Win7 64bit

Every few uses of Firefox, I click the icon to open the program, and my system freezes. Ctrl+Alt+Delete does nothing, Ctrl+Shift+Esc does nothing. The mouse won't move, keyboard non-functioning. I have to do a hard reset of my system (hold power button until it shuts off, restart). No crash report is generated/shown/submitted, probably because my computer freezes before Firefox can even open.
This does not happen with any other program, only Firefox. Running Windows 7 64-bit.
I have to fill out this form on Internet Explorer, because now after restarting my computer firefox won't open at all, regardless of which icon i click.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

I've been researching how to have Safari always open links in the same window, but it appears this can't be done?  I've seen this third party app, but am afraid of installing something that doesn't come from the app store because it might harm my macbook.  Does anyone have any thoughts about how to have links always open in the same window? Or how to find out if I can trust this app:
