Safari and Adobe Reader - document download error

Hello,
I have Adobe 10.x and when clicking on links to open a pdf in Safari, ie bank statements I receive an error message. I realize this forum is for Safari only, but for review purposes I have tried to download pdfs in Firefox and Chrome as well. The error message reads "/Downloads/doc-9.pdf could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to disk first and then opening the file." That would be great if it gave me the option to save it, but it doesn't. I also checked on Adobe's site, but couldn't find any answers. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
Relaunch Safari. See if that made a difference.
If not, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari. Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move that .plist file to the Trash, if not move it back to the Preferences folder.

  • Adobe Reader 9 download error

I recently tried to download an upgrade for my Adobe Reader.  Now, when I try to open the program I get "error 1606 - could not access network location %APPDATA%\".  I have tried to uninstall with no success. I tried to repeat the download process but I'm still stuck.  Hope I can get some help!

Originally, I was at the local city goverment site.  The file I was trying to download was a schedule of children's summer activities for my grandchildren.  I got a message that I needed to update my Adobe Reader in order to view the schedule.  After I had waited for the download, at about 96% completion, an install wizard activated.  I clicked continue and then the error message popped up.
I have since (yesterday) downloaded the program from the Adobe website, however the results are exactly the same.  My computer seems to think I have all the information but I immediately get an internal message error when I try to initiate the Reader.
I am using Vista O/S if that makes a difference.

  • Adobe Reader 10 download error

When trying to download Adobe Reader 10 I receive an error at the end of the download that Adobe Reader 8.3 is using some of the files that are to be modified and must be closed.  I have tried to delete 8.3 and don't see it in my program files any longer, but still receive this message.  Any ideas of how to close something that's not even there?

Since you mention "program files" I assume that you are on Windows.
Download and run the cleaner tool from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
    then try the install again.

  • Safari and Adobe Reader Plug-in

    Hello,
Because of some weird setup on the web site where I was getting the PDF file from, I had to get Adobe Reader Plug-in. I downloaded it, installed, everything seemed fine. But - still no plug in. Looked in ~/library/Internet Plug ins, nothing there (at all!). This reminded me that I had problems with other Adobe plug in, such as Flash.
Anybody knows what is going on? I run Safari 4.0.4, on MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.2. I did all the maintenance - Reset Cashe, Reset Safari.
    Thanks,
    -Dima

  • [MBA 2013] Choppy Scrolling in Safari and Adobe Reader

    Hey guys
just got my baby from the local Apple store a few days ago.
This is my first ever Apple product and I am loving it in many ways...
except for an issue with scrolling and animations.
Despite having installed the latest drivers
I am still getting often choppy scrollings in Safari.
Normal pages like Engadget and the Apple website are smooth,
but when i go to sites like Facebook, it immediately goes choppy. That's fine.
Yet nothing beats the choppiness (is that even a word ) in Adobe Reader
I am a university student and I need to view lecture notes in PDF format frequently in class.
Scrolling these files is not an enjoyable experience especially if the notes are long,
i mean it's mainly text inside these files and very rarely do you see an image,
so I'm guessing it's not a problem with the memory nor the HD5000 graphics.
You can call it stuttering or even frequent freezing coz it's simply UNBEARABLE.
Somehow i guess it might be either :
    1. Issues with the drivers (coz I've heard that the 2012 MBAs don't have this kind of problem)
    2. Adobe Reader for Mac is simply not well-built :s
    Specs:
    2013 Macbook Air
    Core i5 Haswell 1.3Ghz
    4GB Ram
    128GB SSD
    Anyone got solutions?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi WiLD_Cat,
No solution I'm afraid but just to let you know I have exactly the same problem with my MBA core i5 1.7GHz with 8GB RAM which I purchased last week. Some web pages (Facebook is a good example, The Guardian as well) are really unresponsive/choppy while scrolling up/down, while others are ok. I have also noticed that typing text into web forms (such as this one) produces a noticeable lag with text appearing).
Obviously interested if you or anyone else has a solution!

  • IE 11 and Adobe Reader 9 print Error - HELP

    Hello,
At the company I work for we are trying to see if upgrading to IE 11 will work for us. Currently the ERP system we use requires a certain version of Adobe Reader, which is 9. I have done testing with XI, but no avail. Also this ERP system requires that we use IE as well (ugh) though we need IE 11 for another product. Everything works fine until trying to print a pdf from the browser, we get this print dialog which doesn't allow us to print and everything is all jumbled up. The only option is to save the pdf and print from Adobe Reader. My question is, how do we fix this and is this an Adobe Reader issue or IE?

    This has helped me:
Close all instances of Internet Explorer
    Start Adobe Reader
Go to the "Help" menu and click "Repair Adobe Reader"
Try again and see if the problem is still there.
I experienced the problem when upgrading Internet Explorer from 9 to 11.
    Cheers Jacob

  • Adobe Reader new downloads keep popping up.  What is it and do I have to pay for it and how can it h

Hi all............I was reading my sat nav cd on my computer and 'adobe Reader new downloads' keeps popping up. When I asked a friend do I need this they just say 'no' but I am curious and like to learn. What is 'Adobe' Reader OR 'Acrobat'. You see I'm trying to learn how to use the mp3 plaver on my sat nav and download updates for it but there's never anything to say 'how much' or 'free' and there is so much to read. Anyway does anyone know if these downloads are free? and what do they do? All help welcome as I don't understand at all what it is? Oh and thanks in advance :)

Can we go back about the new downloads thing... what is the message
(exact text please) and when does it come up? If it takes you to a
web site, what is the web address (you can copy and paste this from
the browser). I am worried that this may be more sinister than it
    seems.

  • With OSX10.7.5 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02 when I try to open a PDF downloaded from the web I get 'There was an error opening this document. This file is damaged and could not be repaired. Preview will not open either. Older PDFs OK.

I am running OS X 10.7.5 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02. In the last few days I have been unable to open PDF's downloaded from the web. Reader gives the error message 'There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired'. Removing Reader and trying to use Preview to open these files give the error 'Preview cannot open this file. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise' (or something like that). Downloading the same files with Reader removed from my Mac Preview opens the files OK.
I was recently prompted to update Adobe software but did not note exactly what the update was nor when it was done.
Reader and Preview will both open PDFs I downloaded a week ago. Reader will also open files downloaded on another Mac running OS X 10.0.0 and copied to my Mac. Any ideas?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Safari, itunes, and Adobe Reader wont start up on iBook G4

I have an iBook G4 that I purchased from a friend a few months ago that seemed to be working fine up until two days ago. Now for almost no reason at all, Safari, itunes and Adobe reader will not open anymore. Can someone please help me?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Did your friend give you the system discs for the machine? If not, get them. Then see if you can boot from the Tiger disc and repair your boot drive.
Also, you can go to Disk Utility and try repairing permissions. If you have downloaded software and not done this, there will likely be many permissions to repair. Downloading can change permissions, and it is good practice to repair permissions after downloading software.
While in Disk Utility, check the SMART status of the drive. If it says anything other than "verified", the drive is on the way out. It may also be on the way out even if DU says that SMART is verified.
If you can get the discs, also see if you can find the Apple Hardware Test and boot to it and run the extended version of it.
Does the iBook still have its original hard drive? If so, the drive could be beginning to fail. If that's the case, you will need to replace it.
This is just a place to start. Report back with how it goes.
    Good luck!

Every time I try to install Adobe Reader, I get error message "object already installed". Tried all the fixes and suggestions. I need help.

If you haved tried all the fixes and suggestions, there is not much to add. Just in case: did you really try using this tool http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html to first eliminate all traces of Reader, and then use the full offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/?

  • Same message 2 dnld Plugin, (Java), and Adobe Reader: Error 2203.Database: C:\Windows\Installer\ced2e.ipi. Cannot open database file. System error -2147287035.E

Spent all afternoon downloading Java plugiins and Adobe reader; each with the following "failure message."
Error 2203.Database: C:\Windows\Installer\ced2e.ipi. Cannot open database file. System error -2147287035.Error 2203.Database: C:\Windows\Installer\ced2e.ipi. Cannot open database file. System error -2147287035.

This is going to sound lame, but... have you shut down and restarted Windows since this problem began? Sometimes the Windows Installer starts behaving erratically, perhaps due to a backlog of deferred updates, and the only way to get around it is to reboot.

  • Insufficient data sent error in Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X

I have an issue that is happening with several users that I support.  It is only happening in a specific program that they use.  When they open PDFs, they get the message insufficient data sent and then a blank document opens.  I noticed that this seemed to be an issue a couple years ago, but it was apparently solved with recent releases of Adobe reader. I have installed and set up Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X, but the results are the same and very intermittent.  It can happen when trying to open a document and then not happen 10 seconds later on the same doc.  The company that provides the online program blames Adobe.  Where do I proceeed from here?

    Hello,
unfortunately it's a reserved document. I'll try to reproduce the issue with a different design and, if possible, I'll post a link to it.
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
