Safari and flash... and they aint mixin.

I have OS X.3.9 and safari 1.3.1 (v312.3.1) on my iBook 500 MGh G3
ok, so i decided to wipe my hard drive recently, and when i got OS X re-installed, all of the sudden, flash stops being displayed (like when I go to pages like homestarrunner.com)
My first thought was to go download/install the most recent player form macromedia.com, and (after repairing the permissions) i did sucessfully. I still cant view any flash unless i type the adress directly in the addy bar (ex. whatever.com/movie.swf)
What gives?

Ben, you might check the QuickTime System Preferences and make sure that QuickTime isn't selected to handle the swf MIME type.

SEO and Flash, can they ever be friends

Hi All,
I have recently been questioning the SEO side of things; and
am currently trying to better optimize my site. I use quite a lot
of flash on my site, and it sorted dawned on me that Flash is doing
me no favours when it comes down to SEO - I will need to get a good
ranking, as this year I will be putting a lot of money and time
into making our site a success story ;)
Am I a little green on this or what?
Anyone know any tips/tricks on how best to bring SEO and

@kglad: swfaddress need not be timeline based, flash just has
to respond by displaying the relevant content - which could be
loaded content.
My view is that the best way to achieve SEO is to use
swfaddress in combination with a CMS. The CMS provides the same
content in html for search spiders and to flash in a more 'flash
friendly' format when flash is 'rendering' it. SWFaddress supports
the deep-linking from search queries etc.
The way you could think about this is that when flash
requests the same content it gets (for example) xml defining what
it needs to do, whereas if the browser requests it , it gets the
basic html version. But the content is only ever defined once for
both versions of the output from the CMS.
Drupal (a CMS I am familiar with, but I'm sure other CMSes
have similar modules) has a swfaddress module as well as
services/amfphp modules that let flash request content.
My own (somewhat neglected) site has flash requesting all the
content via Drupal. I am not currently 'displaying' it using flash:
flash is loading the content (using as2 LoadVars in json format)
and 'rendering' it via the browser via ExternalInterface and
javascript. This was a kind of experiment just to see if I could do
it - it does store pages in flash memory so some things happen a
little different when navigating to a previously viewed page. But
it could also easily do its own alternate rendering of the same
content, as more structured data and rendering them in its own way
inside flash.
My own example is not so great (it is due for an overhaul)
but I know there are examples out there using this approach with
flash.
The beauty of this approach is that you get SEO via the
traditional spidering approaches, deeplinking to the correct
content from search query results, forward/back button support,
non-flash based browser support, along with easy content
maintenance. It does require learning a CMS and the approaches for
integration with flash though.

Updated Firefox AND Flash, and now flash won't play anymore

So, back in the last version of Firefox, Flash v11.3 wouldn't load correctly. The official solution was to roll it back, install a previous version, and I guess that's alright, but I was really hoping it was a temporary solution.
So now Firefox has updated to version 15. I thought this would solve the problem, and according to the old entries about Flash not working, it has. But then I updated flash, and now it's 11.4, and after updating twice I'm right back where I'm started.
Maybe this hasn't been articulated well enough? The problem isn't that it's a specific version that doesn't work and I'm willing to keep all my plugins in eternal limbo, it's that it doesn't work period. So, I guess I'm just supposed to roll back again? What should it be this time? Flash or Firefox? Does it matter? Which one hates the other one more? Will there ever be an actual solution to this, or will I just have to have outdated versions of one or the other forever?
And also, this is curious, according to this thing below that automatically reads your plugins and what not, I not only have 11.4, but also still have Flash 10.3 installed somehow. Maybe that will make it easier to roll back, but... does that make a difference? Is there anyone with Firefox 15 and Flash 11.4 that doesn't have this problem? I'm kinda hesitant to delete 10.3 because I might... you know, need it.

Having both versions installed is probably a big part of your problem.

Then install the version that you found to be least problematic for you, which sounds like v 10.3.
Personally I have stayed with Flash 10.3, which is still getting security updates from Oracle / Adobe. Then again, I am using WinXP - not Vista. I have had no problems with Flash 10.3, like the problems I have seen posted here with 11.3 and 11.4.

Keep in mind that IE uses its own version of Flash - ActiveX is what it is called in the Add / Remove Programs in the Windows Control panel. That version won't affect Firefox in any manner. The version numbers don't need to be the same for both the ActiveX version of Flash and the '''Plugin''' version which Firefox ''(and most other browsers)'' use.

IPad keeps freezing and flashing and jumping to other apps

My Iliad mini is one year old. About 3 months ago it started acting up. It flashes on and off within an app. Sometimes in a game it makes moves for me. I tried updating but I keep getting an error because the update never completes.

What iOS version are you using? iOS 7.1 supposedly corrected this.

Safari and Flash

Safari and Flash does not work correctly. I always have problems accessing flash sites, like this:

There is a blank rectangle below the flash menu, I can't see the content correctly.
I think Apple must work with Macromedia to give us a better internet experience...

This also doesn't work with Firefox, Camino or Opera. That page also has a whopping 367 errors according to the web standards validation page (validator.w3.org).

And exactly the same for this. So, I'd say there isn't a serious problem with Safari and Flash, since they all fail in 3 other browsers as well.
Apple can only do so much with sloppily coded websites. If these sites want your business the onus should be on them to make them work correctly with as many browsers as possible. This is the real solution.

Black screen iphoto and flash

Please note this question is about "black screen" in both iPhoto AND Flash. They are linked in that the symptom appears in both - if I notice in iPhoto then I know that flash videos will also not work; and if I solve it then both are resolved simultaneously.
MacBook Pro Mid2012 OS 10.9.3 iPhoto   Firefox 30.0   (same problem in Safari) Adobe Flash 14.0.0.125   iPhoto 9.5.1 (different specs to my apple ID because this is happening on my daughters mac book pro). Never had this problem on my older MacBook Pro.
We have had this problems 3 times (once a month) and keep resolving it but I am not sure why or how!
Sympton: iPhoto - thumbnails show but when clicked to show full screen the screen is black. If the photo is flagged then the flag can be seen (in the place you would expect the top left corner of the photo to be).
Firefox - flash videos just show a black screen
Safari - flash videos do not play and suggest that flash player needs updating. On following the link it goes to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and tries to load the page several times before displaying a long error message
Solution:
The solution is a combination of the following. Without understanding what the the cause is it is difficult to know which is fixing it:
1     Uninstall Flash with Adobe uninstaller   http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash _player_osx.dmg
2     find a way to download the flash player installer file (can't remember exactly how I did this as this last time I had it in the downloads folder already))
2     Verify and Repair Disk Permissions shows the following

I have in the past also repaired the disk and used iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the iPhoto library but these are lengthier and don't seem necessary.
Any ideas on what is causing both flash and iPhoto to fail at the same time so that we can fix the underlying problem very much appreciated.

A simpler fix now - but I am still not sure of the cause - might be a faulty hard disk - but this doesn't make sense in that it always seems to be related to Safari - so is there a malfunction with Safari.
This morning - same problem fixed by repairing permissions with the disk utility. then a shutdoen and restart.    Log says:

Is this a hard disk malfunction or a safari issue? All ideas gratefully received.

Transitions flicker and flash when exported

Most of my clips have movement to them. The dissolve transitions have the green bar above them. After rendering these simple dissolve transitions in Final Cut, everything looks great. Playing within the program works perfectly. After "Export Movie" these same transitions flicker and flash and some of the clips end up with dark lines through them. I have tried flicker filter with inconsistent success. I have tried changing the length of the dissolve transition with inconsistent success. Any thoughts?

I think I solved one issue. My still images were way to high resolution. I didn't think that could even be a problem. Also, two were tiff images. Converting them to jpg solved their problems. I turned off the field dominance which cleared up one of the dissolves that had a filter applied. I am still getting some jerky dissolves but at least they do not flash.
As for the codec, It looks like it is the HDV 1080i60. Where and/or how do I change the default Quicktime render from RGB to YUV or vice a versa.

Switching Between Flash and Other Applications

Recently when I've been using Flash, if I switch to another application, then come back into flash, it hangs for about 5-10 seconds (beach ball spinning). If you're a flash developer you know how often you go back and forth from other applications and flash, and this is causing my machine to be almost unusable with the amount of time wasted.
I verified permissions, and not sure what else I can do.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

Yep, it was a Helvetica issue. I replaced my Helvetica system fonts that were corrupted with good ones. Even though suitcase still shows them as damaged (not sure how to fix that), they seem to be working fine.

10.6.3 and flash not loading some content (Evony fails to load)

I the past 2 weeks i have had a number of problems when loading some flash based objects. Most facebook flash game, etc. work but objects like Evony and longer flash videos fail as well.
This happens in Safari, Firefox, Camino and Chrome
I have trashed the prefs of all browsers and flash and I have uninstalled flash with no luck.

Well the setting did nothing at all for the problem.
After all that, Adobe uninstall does crap all if you have Flash Install (not Flash player) as there are copies in the Flash folder.
I trashed the Player folder that was in the Flash folder, restarted, found the 10,0,45,2 installer (not the default download on the site), restart off the snow leopard disk, permissions repair (twice) and away i go with no problems.

Adobe 'fixes' for Flash and Dreamweaver

According to what I've been reading, Adobe added fixes to
Dreamweaver 8.02 to deal with the Active Content problem created by
Microsoft when Flash animations are embedded in web pages. Since I
have an earlier version of Dreamweaver and Flash and am having
problems like everyone else with that issue, would some 8.02 user
kindly inform me if this is indeed the case, and what does one do
in the new version to ensure Flash active content runs as intended?
Is it something that one must still manually add to the code in an
.html file, is the correction added automatically, is there an icon
to press....just how is the new feature/fix used and incorporated?

You dont really have to do anything other then remember to

Colour differences in Photoshop CS4 and Flash CS4 - help!

I've been having problems for a while now when working with Photoshop and Flash, so now I will try to find an answer to my problem.
The thing is, when I try to take designs from Photoshop to Flash, the colours are changing/looking wrong. See my attached screenshot below.
The document in the upper part of the screenshot, is the Photoshop document. There is a blue gradient in the image and the left color of the gradient is RGB: 0/90/132 and the right color is RGB: 0/131/191.
The document in the lower part of the screenshot, is the Flash document. Here I have used exactly the same RGB colours to achieve the same blue gradient background. But as you can see on my screen, the colours look totally different. The colours in the Photoshop document looks clearer/darker.
How can I solve this problem and get the colours to look the same in Photoshop and Flash, and why do I even have this problem?

No one told me to use Monitor profile, I think it was default. I have
no knowledge about calibration of a monitor, but since it's a nice
Apple monitor i figured I wouldn't need to calibrate it.
When I open the file in Photoshop, Photoshop asks me whether to use
the embedded profile (sRGB in this case) or the working space profile.
And since I always use the emedded profile, I didn't think that it
would make any difference? The problem is still that I don't know any
way to set color handling in Flash, and the colors look all different
from Photoshop. What should I do?

Starling and Flash CS5.5

This question weighs more on the side of flash as I'm trying to get this to work with Flash CS 5.5. and installed the updated extenstion so flash can publish in the version 11 player. I have all libraries and files referenced correctly, however when I play in the browser, Internet explorer 8 with flash player 11.6, nothing shows up. I have done some research which all points to the fact that it should work. I also get a compiler error:
RenderSupport.as, Line 421 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Program3D.
upon further research I was told to disreguard this error and play in the web browser as you were not able to play within flash due to the internal player being an outdated version. If there is anyone here who has experience in dealing with starling and flash, and possible reasons why it may not be appearing correctly?
NOTE: I have built the same project in FlashBuilder 4.7 and works fine. Just having issue converting over to Flash. I have checked and saw that it is possible to do this with Flash, its just something im missing.

From what you tell it could be either of two probems:
1. Your project uses flex-only classes (that are not available in flash)
2.You have missed sth. when upgrading flash cs 5.5 for fp11-Publishing (installing the extension is not enough)

Memory is a really broad term and could reference both RAM and flash, though when used by itself memory usually refers to RAM. RAM is Random Access Memory and a couple of important things about RAM is that it is faster and that it is volatile so that when the router is reloaded or is power cycled the content of RAM is erased. flash is slower and is non volatile memory so that the content of flash are maintained through a reload or power cycle.
Your router has 64 MB of RAM and has 8 MB of flash.

No media shown in Safari (Quicktime, Flash, etc. just won't show!!)

About a few days ago I noticed that any website with flash, quicktime (incl. WMV Player) media just won't show! There is no controller, even when I open the movie directly in Safari. I reinstalled Flash, for example, and still nothing works. But, I know this is isolated to Safari, because flash and quicktime work in all my other browsers such as Camino, Firefox, and Opera.
Can someone please help me find a way to fix this? It's really getting on my nerves because no flash or quicktime-enabled site works anymore!

Yes- I just checked, and plug-ins were disabled. I enabled them, restarted, and they still wouldn't display because Safari didn't even change the preference (it was left unchecked). I simply trashed my Safari plist and voila! It works.
