Safari and Google Video Chat

Ever since I updated my Flash I can not get Video when trying to use Google Video Chat using Safari, it works using Crome. Does anyone know how to fix it in Safari?

We're aware of an issue where you're not able to view your own video, the other person, or both if you're using Safari or Firefox on Mac OS X with 64 bit flash 11.0 or higher. As a workaround, enable the "Video chat enhancements" lab in Gmail or select 'enable high resolution video' in your Chat settings in iGoogle or Google+.

I added my facebook and google contacts into iChat the normal way and txt chat with them. But it won't let me video chat with them through iChat...the little button won't let me press it. How do i get it to work?

Google Video Chat and 10.6 Compatibility Issues

Gmail says "Google Voice and Video chat has some known compatibility problems with the newly released Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard. For many users, the display of video is broken, showing only your Gmail avatar image."
Is there a way to deal with this? I am, indeed, not able to see myself in the video display. How do I use Google Video Chat if I have 10.6+ Snow Leopard?

Same thing for me since upgrading to Mavericks - I used to be able to make phone calls through my Gmail account on Safari but since upgrading to Mavericks the plugin is installed but not recognized. It works fine when I run Firefox. Annoying. I may eventually stop using Safari as my primary browser.

Isight not recognized by Skype, Google Video Chat, Logitech VID and ichat.

Here is my story. I will try and make it as brief as possible.
The other day, I put a rented DVD into my dvd drive, and it didn't load. I checked for updates for Mac or quicktime. Nothing available. I did some googlin, and someone suggested I zap pram, repair permissions. I blindly obeyed. That didn't help. Then I messed around with quicktime. Not sure what I did. Finally, I had to download the latest version of VLC to watch my movie. I have no idea of my problems with QT have anything to do with my isight issues with Skype and the like, but I mentioned it just in case.
The next morning, when I went to skype, my video wasn't sending. I'm not sure if my chat partners video was working, we usually only do it one way. Me sending.
I checked to see if my video was working in photobooth. Indeed it was (and still does).
I have to date:
Downloaded the latest version of QT (7.6.9 for Leopard)- the web plug-in for watching QT online is installed and running properly.
After install, the QT player does not show up in applications, or anywhere else on the hard drive.
I Messed around with QT in ways I can't describe. Trying to install older versions, removing who knows what files. Installing again.
zapped PRAM
Cleared preferences for Skype by removing skype plist
download latest version skype
deleted all skype files I could find
reinstall Skype
repaired permissions (FIRST THING I DID)
Put your Mac to sleep
Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by by choosing the Apple
Shut down your Mac
Start up mac
Shutting down, disconnecting power supply, taking out batter, putting dumte mac together again
changed permissions on skype specifically to make sure all accounts were read/write
tried setting using skype with a new account
tried using skype, google video and logitech using wifi at my work
uninstalled PREY video security app plug in
removed and uninstalled divx
removed and uninstalled perian
Checked Preferences>Video show a black screen that says "No Video Camera Connected" and does not show ANY cameras in the video camera chooser drop down"
NOTE: Google Video Chat does show the isight cam, but a black screen. Logitech just has a black screen and asks "where in the interweb is your cam buddy?
I have searched and failed to find CamCamX5.component
Tested video in Google Chat and Logitech VID chat. built-in isight not recognized
Tested video in iChat - I chat crashed when opening. (i posted the crash report at the end of this post)
I'm sure I'm missing some.......
SOME THINGS I HAVE NOT YET TRIED
ROSETTA - in the Skype info pane, Rosetta is greyed out. I don't know if I have it, don't know where to get it. Don't know if I need.
Installing Skype while playing Stairway to Heaven backwards
Reset SMC or PMU
Done disk repair - I'm not sure how to do that, I used to have a disc for my old mac for that
Deleted iPhotoPhotocast and/or QuartzComposer.
Closing Firefox and starting Skype

I know this is a lot of info. I hope I didn't miss anything. I use skype with three people. Three very important people. Two of which, meh, the video isn't important. ONe where the video option is paramount.

We will come back to iChat if required.
It does prefer an Screen Name to be added as you go through the Start Up Screens (First Run) but you can click through these and just access the iChat > Preferences > Video Section to view a Preview.
I must admit to not seeing a Crash Log when the known chosen Mic/Audio Input has not been listed.
However if the External Audio was Firewire connected that may explain things.
NOTE:-
mAudio and other Firewire Audio Devices do tend to need the Most up-to-date drivers to work properly.
Sometimes it pays not to do a COMBO or other Software Update until you know the drivers are ready for it.
With any OS update above the 10.x.1 point will also have a COMBO version.
The COMBO then includes all the updated items between the base level OS and the latest Update.
So for 10.6 there is only what is called a Delta for 10.6.1
There is a delta (10.6.1 to 10.6.2 only) and a COMBO (10.6 to 10.6.2) for the next update and this is repeated through 10.6.6
The Deltas only include those things that are Updated on that occasion (As in the 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 example - 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 would not include the stuff in 10.6.4 or earlier)
COMBOs can be installed "Over-the-Top" of what you have already installed.
It is certainly needed when you Re-install something (Apple apps/Files etc) from the Install Disk you have when your OS has been updated beyond that point.
Some apps like iChat Get their Updates in the OS Updates and need to "Match" the progression.

The Download and Install should be all the parts of Quicktime.
Internet Plug-ins for Browsers, various System Files to make Quicktime work for other apps, various Components to play various formats and of course the Player itself.
The Player should be in the Applications Folder with this icon:-

If you mean it has disappeared from the DOCK you can Drag the Application back to the DOCK to make the icon (and link to app) again (The app stays in the Applications folder the OS just makes an icon and links it for you by doing this)
One of the biggest causes of many apps not working is turning Off/Disabling certain Fonts the apps need.
Follow the Link in this Users Tip by Kurt Lang. Make sure that the Correct System Fonts are ON.

i got the solution.
Enable the "Video chat enhancements" lab in Gmail or select 'enable high resolution video' in your Chat settings in iGoogle or Google+. The Video Chat Enhancements is under "Labs" in your Gmail Settings. It works fine.

My iMac os 10.7.4 Lion purchased 2/12 has jerky videos. I've tried watching you tube and other videos with Safari and Google Chrome and sometimes they don;t jerk but most of the time the spinning globe appears and the video stops for a few seconds. Help

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. Might also apply to new machines w/o AppleCare.

Since firefox upgraded to to 3.6 version, google video chat no longer works - freezes and sound is distorted.

The sound now on google video chat is distorted and I freeze - very annoying as use it every day and used to work perfectly....no answers from browsing your supposed help section.

Why can't I play Safari and Chrome videos in the background anymore?

Before iOS 6, I was able to play videos on Safari and Google Chrome while the app is running in the background. I really enjoyed playing music from YouTube videos in the background whilst multitasking on other things. How come I can't do this anymore? Is it a copyright/compatibility issue or something? When I play a video, and pull up the app switcher to play the music, it has the app there, but when I press Play it doesn't do anything.

I did more research and found that after the 4.2.2 update if you leave the @me.com or @mac.com OFF of your "add mobileme account when logging onto ATV that the error message: cannot load content, try again later goes away and allows your Gallery movies to play. Hope this helps.

It would seem that at least one of your third-party video apps is refusing to let go of its iSight connection. Because these apps can interact among themselves, they may act differently for you than for another Mac user who has installed different third-party apps. Things you can consider (if you have not already tried them):
• Be CERTAIN all software is up to date and that you have used Disk Utility to repair permissions.
• If problem remains, follow developer's directions for uninstall and UNINSTALL Skype, Google, and any other third-party apps that can use your Mac's video components. Then test iSight with multiple Apple apps ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 ) to be sure that the problem is not in the Mac itself or your OS.
• If iSight switches properly between Apple apps when no third party video apps are installed, make a Time Machine backup, and then start checking out the third party apps. Add back third party apps ONE AT A TIME, testing to see if the problem reoccurs. Test the first addition thoroughly before installing the next third-party app. If the first added app works properly, make another Time Machine backup and reinstall with the next app.
• When you encounter a problem, you can restore your system using the latest Time Machine backup. If you REALLY want to keep using the app that appears to be causing trouble, download and install a fresh copy of the latest version and test again. If the app continues to cause problems, you need to decide whether you want to keep using it even though your must restart your Mac more often than you like. Otherwise, use an alternative app and leave the troublesome app off until its developer updates it to correct the present problem.

Safari and Google Maps are useless

Safari and Google Maps invariably quit and return to the home screen. They are essentially useless. I tried to empty the cache and history...no luck. I then tried a reset and when it restarted got a message to please connect to iTunes. iTunes told me my phone needed to be restored. A progress bar indicated it was extracting some software and then it was preparing the iPhone for restoration. After some time I got an unknown error message (1603) that said it was unable to restore. I am looking at it as it sits uselessly in the dock with nothing but the apple icon showing. Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone have a solution? Should I just return it to the Apple Store.

James, I'm sorry to say buddy, but you might just have a defective product. If restoring doesn't work there really isn't much more you could do. You can ether wait for the next update, and hope that would fix it, or just take it back to the store and exchange it. You have 30 days from the day of purchase to return the item. Safari and google plus site issues.

Safari and google plus crashes when I go to the google plus website, but it works with my other browser apps. Help? I am using the mac retina display.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
          SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
          DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)

Really Apple? OSX 10.8.5 disables built-in camera functionality with third party apps such as Skype and Gmail video chat. I do not have time machine on my 2013 MB Air. How can I get back to 10.8.4?

With the release OSX 10.8.5 Apple has once again showed its true colors, and continued its efforts to create a closed Apple system, which eliminates third party vendors, unless, one can only assume... they pay.
Included in this OSX update is the disabling of the built-in camera to work with third party applications such as Skype and Gmail video chat. No surprise the camera works just fine with Apple apps such as Facetime and Photobooth.
The answer I got on my call to AppleCare to ask for assistance in reinstalling 10.8.4, so that I may Skype again, was we can not do that. You can not go back unless you have a time machine bkup.
Can anyone help me get back to to 10.8.4 on my 2013 MB Air?
I do not have a time machine bkup as this computer is not used to store important documents.

I want to download 'my' videos from YouTube and Google Video

i'm on: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6. and I am looking for a WORKABLE way to download my videos from YouTube and Google Video. When I download them straight from YouTube of GoogleVideo the sound is de-synchronized.

Open iTunes and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer. (In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.

Safari and Google Chrome running slow on my MacBook

Hi there!
Over the last couple of weeks Safari (and Google Chrome) have started running very, very slow on my MacBook(I own a MacBook white, OS X version 10.6.8). I didn't install anything new over the last few months, so I don't think that is the problem. My Wi-Fi has been checked and that's not the problem either. Also, I emptied my cache and reset Safari, yet nothing seems to help.. Sometimes I even have to Force Quit Safari because it just stops working all of a sudden and it blocks my whole computer for over a minute. Anyone out there that can help me?

Except for Facebook?
Try the following:
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
