Safari and iMac go  BANG !!!!

Our ca. 2000 iMac G3 400 MHz DVD Special Edition is having some mental and visual problems. YES, we have over 150,000 plus miles on iMac
The picture and the sound go OFF suddenly while we are working on our computer; this occurs 3-4 times a day. It typically has occurred while using Safari. The Version no. is 3.2.1 the Build no. is 4525.27.1
I have downloaded and reinstalled Safari -- but it still keeps happening.
I will, for the SIXTH time in two weeks, be doing brain surgery on iMac. I will reset the PMU, check the battery voltage and perform other simple diagnostic tests to check the powering of the iMac.
Parts are no longer available for this iMac.
Any suggestions would be appreciated ..
Has anyone heard of this bug in Safari ??
Thanks
Samuel

Kenichi-
YOU A WONDER TO BEHOLD !!!!!!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If it occurs with and effects other apps, not just Safari, it is probably not something that is caused by Safari.
My wife and I have experienced this phenomenon ONLY with/on Safari -- this version and build 3.2.1 (4525.27.1) AND I think it started on our iMac after the last Update download and install. Prior to that NO PROBLEM !!!!!
Could it be a bug in Safari ?? How do I file a bug report to Apple ??
If you did the basics such as reset PRAM and run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility, I would try creating a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane. Log out and log in to the new account (don't use Fast User Switching). Does the same problem recur in the new account?
I have not done this YET, but I will. I thought that I would check my email first to see if I had any responses to my posting. We DO NOT use Fast User Switching.
Does this mean the iMac shuts OFF, or is it still running, but with no video or audio? How do you get the video and audio to come back ON?
The latter, green light is still ON, but NO video or audio. We turn off iMac with the "power button", turn off the power to the iMac at the surge protector and my wife's "trick" she pulls the plug from the wall receptacle. Then we wait a while: 10-20 minutes, plug back into the receptacle, turn on the surge protector and press the power button on the keyboard [ needs two presses ] or press the power button on the iMac. IMac then starts right back up, as if nothing had happened.
If it is shutting OFF, it may be the common analog video (PAV) board problem that affects CRT iMacs.
I thought that I would try attaching a fan to increase the heat dissipation, It sure looks and feels like a heat overload switch tripping. I took it to an Apple support place and they determined that there are not any replacement parts available.
Because of the economic recession=depression, we are reluctant to spend $2000+ for a new top-of-the-line iMac, which would be generally unusable for the next ten +/- years -- as this iMac has been for nine years. But if we must, I am looking at a 24" 3.06 GHz with 500 GB HDD.
Kenichi, thank you again.

    Hi,
my problems appears to be a similar one.
My contacts will not update on .Mac or on my iPod.
I've reset the date, done the process over, and now the contact list is totally deleted from the iPod, and the .Mac list still not updated.
Is there anyone out there that can help?

Your post somehow found its way to a little-viewed forum for an obsolete Apple productivity program. I have asked the Hosts to move you to a more active and appropriate forum for your product.

I was moving bookmarks in safari and 2 complete folders have emptied their contents. The folders are still there. I don't have a working time machine and icloud has caused the relevant folders to disappear from all my machines, iPhone, iPad and iMac as well as thge MacBook Air I was working on. HELP!!!

    Hi,
There is NO need to put your whole questing in the "Questing Heather" therefore you can TYPE here. In the Text window as I did to.
    Now to your questing:
So, you moved some Bookmarks and now 2 folders are completely empty.
I think that they dropped in a other folder during dragging the Bookmarks.
Did you check ALL of you Bookmark folder if they are there?
If you didn't delete the they have to be still there.

  • Intel imac G5, Safari and Godaddy problems

I have an intel imac G5 with OS 10.4.5 with Safari 2.0.3 and can not access my GoDaddy hosted website directly or with forwarding (on or off)...
I can however access the GoDaddy hosted website with my imac G5 (non-intel) with the same version Mac OS and Safari and with a Windows computer.
I can only assume this is a problem with my intel imac?
Another weird problem...my site is still on an SBC webhosting.com hosting server and I can only access the SBC hosted site with Safari not the Godaddy site. SBC has not cancelled the account and has not taken the old site down as of yet.
I have tried clearing the cache, Firefox, and pinging the godaddy site ip address.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

very strange...right after I posted, I received an intel mac security upgrade...installed it and the problem was fixed...wow...
    sorry for the post...

  • My iMac tells me it picked up a virus on safari and is telling me to call a number, could it b true

my iMac is posting me that it picked up a virus on safari and telling total a certain number to get it checked out, could it be true?

If that doesn't work, try to shutdown Safari and disconnect from the network. Then while disconnected from network restart Safari.

  • In Safari, my iMac sometimes zooms way too much and will not zoom back.  I have a wireless mouse set to zoom in and out on double tap, but the excessive zooms happen with no taps.

In Safari, my iMac sometimes zooms way too much and will not zoom back.  I have a wireless mouse set to zoom in and out on double tap, but the excessive zooms happen with no taps.  A page zooms in so less than 1/4 of the page is visible and nothing I do will zoom back out, command minus doesn't do it, double tap on mouse does not zoom out, and the window will not scroll to show any of the rest of the page.  reloading the page does not help.  Loading a different page gives me a normal view again.

If it were a tweaked setting, it should happen less randomly.  And there should be no settings that could override the zoom setting in unversal Access and the Mouse zoom preferences.
In addition, this only happens in Safari 6, and seems to happen more fredquently on some websites and not on others.  That suggests some sort of conflict in the site code with Safari and Apple wireless mouse code.  It does not happen in Mail, Word, Excel, Photoshop, Illustrator, or other software as far as I can tell.

  • Safari and Internet Explorer won't run on my iMac G4 anymore (OS 10.2.8)

I cant get Safari or Internet Explorer (IE) to work on my iMac anymore. I can get iTines downloads and standard updates, but Safari and IE won't work - usually Safari will open (IE will usually not open completely - hangs up and must be force quit). Safari will hang up when loading a web page. Any ideas?

Try deleting the preference files for each.
Go to Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.Safari.plist and com.microsoft.explorer.plist.

  • How to play Netflix on my Imac G5, it has Safari and Firefox 3, and over 1gb Ram and Mac OS X 10.4.11

How to play Netflix on my Imac G5, it has Safari and Firefox 3, and over 1gb Ram and Mac OS X 10.4.11

You referenced that you had a iMac G5 model?
G5's are PowerPC CPUs and not Intel CPUs.
The Microsoft Silverlight software works with Intel chip Macs only.
And, if I am not mistaken, the software requires OS X 10.5.8 Leopard or greater to install.
So, you need both an Intel Mac with, at least, OS X 10.5.8 as minimum requirements.
Netflix will still not work on your Mac.
    FYI.

  • Just installed Mac OS X 10.6.8 on my i5 iMac and now safari and app store crash my Mac, any suggestions or similar experiences

  • I cannot access my mobileme on my imac it tells me that my browser safari and mozila can't open the page. However on my macbook it all works (in the same room)

i cannot access my mobileme on my imac it tells me that my browser safari and mozila can't open the page. However on my macbook it all works (in the same room. I have rebooted and rebooted. I have enough memory. Any help?

    Hi Hawaiian_Starman,
    Thank you for the suggestion.
I ran the first aid in the Keychain both for verification and for repair and both immediately returned with "no problems found".
As for the certificate, according the web administrator nothing had changed for the certificates.
even on the windows laptop I also get the certificate as being expired, but by simply accepting that I still have access.
I had a pop up every time that alerted me to the certificate issue, but whether I "continued" or not that still did not matter.
Yesterday, in an effort to find a solution, I went into the "details" and entered to trust this website.
Now that certificate issue does not pop up anymore. But I do not know how to reverse that either.
I have the feeling indeed it has something to do with a certificate, but how is the question.

my iMac os lion 10.7.4 has jerky videos.  I've tried YouTube videos with Safari and Google Chrome and the spinning globe appears and the video stops for a few seconds.  I can't watch the white house weeklky address because it stops and starts every few seconds.  The software is up to date.  Just bought this thing in February 2012.  Can anyone help me?

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. Might also apply to new machines w/o AppleCare.

  • Safari bookmarks different on iPad and iMac

I've synced my iPad and iMac numerous times but the bookmarks on my iPad are the original ones and haven't updated to those on the iMac. Any suggestions?

The exact same thing happened on my iPad over the last day or two … all of my old bookmarks disappeared and were replaced with just the set of default items (Google, Bing, iPad manual, and a couple of others). I couldn't add any new ones at that point, either. Eventually I tried killing off the Safari task in the bottom bar of background apps, and when I restarted Safari thereafter my old bookmarks were back. Definitely seems like a bug, but at least there was a workaround that helped in my case.
