Safari and Internet Ex Unable To Trace Servers - again......

I'm reduced to helplessness with Safari and now Internet Explorer as well at the moment with a repeat of the failure I reported yesterday. I can't get anywhere on the Net. At the moment I'm using OS9.2.2 with O.E. to get this message out.
Can anyone throw some light on the reason why I've got such a problem.... ?

You assume people know what information you posted yesterday, and therefore are able to correlate the two messages.
The first question is whether this is an intermittent thing. The fact that you have this "at the moment" implies that it comes and goes, which is much harder to troubleshoot than when it doesn't work at all.
You mention two web browsers so we can assume you have a web-browsing problem, but what about other protocols? does your mail work? what about ftp? Can you ping and traceroute to other sites (try using Network Utility to test)?
Also, what error message do you get when you try to use Safari. Very often there'll be some clue in the message itself.
In short, there are many potential reasons why you might be having problems, but there isn't enough information yet to enable anyone to answer which one(s) you're experiencing. For pointers consider DNS settings (incorrect settings would prevent you from performing name lookups) and proxy server settings (incorrect proxy settings would block specific protocols from working).

Safari and Internet Banking

Hi there,
Ever since 10.3.9 update, i realized that my safari has been having troubling with my internet banking. Logging in is just fine, everything pops up fine. But once i click on the navigation bar on the left, the screen jumps to the e.g bill payments WITHOUT the navigation bars. So I cant navigate anymore from this point onwards. Just the website security times-out. I never had this problem before 10.3.9
Is it something to do with Java 1.4.2 ?
I have delete the whole safari and also tried out the solution from Apple Knowledge Based, and then download the safari and then update the 10.3.9 again. Didnt work.
I can't afford to upgrade to Tiger at the moment, if that solves the problem.
Does Safari has problem wit Microsoft Exchange Servers ?
Because i noticed recently, i have the similiar navigation problem when i log on to my university website , where the navigation bar dissapears when i move on to the next screen.
Hope some one can help. Last few months being away from home, I had to resort to find a windows computer to do my banking and check on my lecturers via the web.

Hello Freelancer:
Unfortunately some web developers do not write code to standards - worse yet, they occasionally use Microsoft (IE) specific extensions. I always inform the web sites in question that there are problems - some fix them, some do not.
What bank do you use? There are many banks that have excellent web sites that work well with Safari. I personally use Bank of America, but I do not know where you are located so I cannot advise further.

Page not displaying in Safari and Internet explorer but showing up in Mozila

Hi,
I bought this pre-made template which I would like to use for my website. When I upload it to my website and try to open the pages like "Contact us", "News", "Team members" and so on, they are not displaying in Safari and Interner Explorer, but they DO show up in Mozilla. Also, the pages I created myself do show up in all browsers. I really need to fix this problem as I already put a lot of effort to create my web site and now it is not working online. I cant get Safari or Internet Explorer (IE) to work on my iMac anymore. I can get iTines downloads and standard updates, but Safari and IE won't work - usually Safari will open (IE will usually not open completely - hangs up and must be force quit). Safari will hang up when loading a web page. Any ideas?

Try deleting the preference files for each.
Go to Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.Safari.plist and com.microsoft.explorer.plist.

Safari and Vista now unable to use my pictures as my background

I downloaded Safari, and when I wanted to change my background to another picture from my galary it goes black. I can use a solid color for my background, but my pictures are not able to be viewed. I can still see them in my sidebar desktop but to right click and save as background, no longer works. I had dell restore my computer back to before the install and it still didn't fix it. In fact 4 dell technicians couldn't figure it out. There solution was to do a re image....no thanks Anyway I am hoping someone here knows what I'm talking about and can help. Also when I go to view my picutre galary via thumbnails you can't see them just blank pictures.

You have been most likely stuck to a web page through a simple JavaScript trick. Safari's defaults reopen the same sites you last had up when you close the browser, so the page seemingly never goes away.
One simple way to get rid of it is to open Safari's preferences. Under the General tab, change the drop down menu for "Safari opens with:" from "All windows from last session" to "A new window". Close the prefs and shut Safari down. When you launch it again, the nuisance page should be gone.
If you prefer to have this preference on, then instead, go to the security tab and turn off the check box to "Enable JavaScript". All that's happening here is when you click the back button to get off the page, a JavaScript command in the page tells the browser to reload the page, leaving you apparently "locked in". With JavaScript off, it can't stop you from backing out of the page. Then turn JavaScript back on.

Is it possible to uninstall OS Mountain Lion and go back to OS Lion? This upgrade has been a headache! Mail freezes, all contacts all gone and I am unable to import them again. HELP?

I recently downloaded and install OS Mountain Lion on my iMac. Consequently none of the new mail features are available and everytime I attempt to check for new mail or send mail, the mail app freezes and has to be forced closed. Also, all of my contacts are gone, and I am unable to import them back. And I just discovered that all of my calendar items are missing too. Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

Thank you for the tip, Andreas. That is exactly what I did for my iPad, and it works like a charm. Unfortunately, when I try to set up my Gmail accounts in Mountain Lion using Exchange services, I receive the following error after putting in m.google.com in the server address field:
The Exchange server "(null)" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable.
I know this works for iOS, but it seems like this will not work on Mac OS X.

IOS6 loaded and now none of my bookmarks are showing in Safari and when I try to add them again it won't let me. Am using iPad2

Have downloaded iOS6 and it has been ok until today. When I went to Safari this morning none of my bookmarks are showing and when I try to add them again it won't saved them. Am using iPad2. Anyone got any ideas please?

Ok I read some of the other posts and restarted the iPad which seems to have solved the issue temporarily. Is there likely to be a fix for this in the near future?

Hotspots not working as expected in Safari and Internet Explorer

first of all, I am using the double <object> tag with conditional comments to hide the inner <object> tag from IE, to embed a QTVR in a web page (as recommended at A List Apart, see http://www.alistapart.com/articles/byebyeembed for details). I am not using the <object><embed> method any longer since <embed> is not standards-compliant.

this is the code I am currently testing and having issues with, for an embedded QTVR movie with blob hotspots. To see the hotspot in the VR, click the target icon at the right of the controller bar then turn around about 180 degrees.
1) in IE for PC (tested in v5.5 and v6.0), clicked hotspots invariably open in a new window and I cannot figure out any way of forcing them to load in the same window, even using the following code (greatly abbreviated here, of course):

Safari and Internet Explorer

I just purchased a Mac Mini and this is the first Mac. I have owned but have worked with them at work. I've come to a small issue with Internet Explorer and Safari. I would prefer to use I.E. however, when in I.E. and I goto www.securecomputing.com (The top menu bar shows doubles) if I use Safari it doesn't. If in I.E. and I goto www.search.com, I don't see the Search logo at the top. If I use Safari I do. Whats going on in I.E. ? Anyone have any ideas ? Some of these scripts work on the Mac, but some web sites incorporate proprietary Windows-only technologies or else call up music containing Microsoft's Windows-only digital rights management. Sometimes you can look at the source code for the web page and find the address for the actual music file or radio station and you can then cut and paste it into Windows Media Player. If the file does not contain DRM, it should play.

Firefox won't load any websites, where as Safari and Internet Explorer have no issues.

I've re-installed Firefox and changed Firefox's proxy settings amongst other suggestions that were made on a similar page. It was Firefox 3.6, but I tried installing the 4 version. And no one has been around to live chat with, pretty lame that its offered if I can't even use it.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

If you use a Firefox 4 beta release then you should create a new profile exclusively for the 4.0 beta version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.

There are no issues using 2 or 20 browsers, keeping the bookmarks sync'd is not a pushbutton affair, export your bookmarks from IE then import them to Safari
