Safari and IRS secure website
Have been using Safari 3.0.4 (523.12.2) for sometime on several macs to obtain federal id numbers from the following site: https://sa.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/legal-structure.jsp
This morning this would work on my PowerbookG4 but not on the Intel iMacs. It said it could not establish a secure connection. I have read a post concerning keychain and X509 anchors but do find that file listed in the keychain.app or in the library>keychains. We were able to install firefox and get this to work but I have having to keep remembering to run a different browser. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
Thank you. Kathleen H.
The IRS site seems to have some strange certificate issues with Safari, possibly because their addresses aren't set up correctly.
Try their host servers directly: https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/legal-structure.jsp or https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/legal-structure.jsp

Dark Gray Safari Screen on Secure Websites
Today, Safari started turning dark gray any time I log into a secure website (Facebook, my banks, etc.). The website loads at first but then quickly is replaced by a dark gray screen. All other websites, including ones that require non-secure logins (like my Clickbook.net site), load without a problem. I have no extensions installed but I went ahead and turned them "off" anyway- no change. I also reset Safari, cleared my cache, and turned off auto username/passwords. None of these helped. I also tried turning off Java but that didn't change anything either. I'm on a MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.5 and Safari version 6.1. Firefox loads all websites without a problem and my software updater says everything is up to date. Any ideas on how to fix this please?
Try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plugins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here. -
Safari and the Secured Western Union Web Site.
I have using Safari 3.1.2 (525.21) and the Secured Western Union website, in order to use their money in minutes service, I have to open it with IExplorer. I reset safari, uncheck the block pop-up windows, but Safari doesn't work with it. How can I add WesterUnion to the safe website list in Safari? maybe this is the reason, that the following Wester Union Screen, after the log in, are blocked by Safari.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks! There is no Internet Explorer available for Mac (or Linux for that matter). I hate when sites 'require' IE, it's just lazy programming since there are other sites that do the same thing, but don't require it.
So, you have 3 options
1. Use a different computer that has Windows
2. Get Windows and put it on via:
a. Boot Camp http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html
b. Parallels http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/
3. Use IE4OSX http://odetoapple.com/2007/run-multiple-versions-of-internet-explorer-on-mac-os- x-without-the-need-for-windows/(I've used IE4Lin, but haven't tested the western union site) -
I have just bought an iPad, partly to check that my websites work OK on mobile devices. When I load a page with several jpgs (e.g. one 1920x720, then 8-10 800x800px), only the first few are shown. If I remove the large one, that sometimes fixes the problem. Behaviour is similar for Safari and Chrome. Is this a website issue or iPad?
Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I'm using a new Wordpress theme that is meant to be responsive. The large image is for a header, than you scroll down to see the rest, one by one. Some one the pages work OK on my iPad, typically the old ones where the maximum image size was 500 x 500. It's the new pages and those I've updated that are causing the problem. On the iPad the large image loads, then a couple of the small ones become visible as I scroll down, but then darkness (rather like my knowledge level).
Being new to IOS and iPads, I'm trying to work out whether I should be looking here, or amongst the Wordpress stuff for a solution.
Here's the website with its new theme: http://www.new-zealand-pictures.com/ -
hello,
I am currently using a OS X 10.4.2 (up to date as of saturday september 24) on my 1.8ghz imac. whenever i try to log into my bank website to check my balance, each time i do so, i am told "Your current session has expired. Press the 'Exit' button above to exit. NOTE: This may be caused by reloading or resizing your browser window. Some browsers do not support window resizing in a secure session."
this happens everytime i try to log into my online bank account. i used to be able to log in previous to using tiger (been using tiger a week after it came out) but since the upgrade, the above message is all i get. using camino, firefox, icab, shiira and omniweb log me in just fine. i have not messed with safari settings, nor have i resized my browser window at all (or at any time).
anyone have an idea whats going on? i would love to get this problem corrected as i am military and in the field 4 days out of each week and need to have 24 hour access to my account for day to day business and for emergency situations. is anyone else experiencing this problem?Hi Ryan,
is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Who is the bank in question? Since I'm not based in the US it's unlikely I'll be able to help but at least other posters can confirm/deny they are having problems with your bank. -
Safari and Snapfish (photo website)
Having trouble downloading software to upload photos faster on Snapfish.com. When I click on the "Download Now" button, the entire page blinks as if nothing happened. Is there a setting I need to switch on Safari's preferences that would allow me to access this? Is there a plugin I need to know about? Is Safari compatible? I have tried Internet Explorer and Firefox and neither work. ANY help would be appreciated!!
Looks like the Site only serves Windows users and do not support Macs.

Safari only opens secure websites
Hello,
I connect to the internet wireless through my Time Capsule. I just returned from vacation, plugged everything back in, and now I can only connect to https sites. For example, http://www.gmail.com hangs up, but https://www.gmail.com loads. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
I've been messing around with settings for about an hour with no luck. The network diagnostic says everything is working fine.
Thank you for your help in advance.HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Go to the Apple Menu / Software Updates. Make sure your system software is up to date, especially Safari.

Is there a problem with iPad safari and html-built websites?
A simple website I made with HTML shows up fine in Safari on iMac, but I get an "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable" error on iPad. Anyone had similar experience? Thanks.

safari, chrome and firefox cannot verify identity of secure websites after upgrading to 10.7.4, apple engineers have tried multiple things including operating system with no success
There are several threads about this problem, most notably one called 'Invalid Certificates' is over 4 pages long. Many of us have experienced difficulty connecting to banking and other secure sites. On my Macbook Pro, I cannot get to my banking site with any browser, however I can get there on my iMac using Safari, but get the 'Invalid Certificate' notice with FF and Chrome. The problem started after the installation of 10.7.4. I have sent a message to Apple--they will be dismayed to hear that I cannot complete an order at their online store!

For the past few days, I keep getting an invalid security certificate in Safari whenever I select Edit My Site from my website homepage (http://annaporterartist.com), or whenever I select anything requiring a secure log in from my website host main page (FASO.com). I have contacted technical support at my website host (fineartstudioonline.com) and they say that this has been an intermittently recurring problem in Safari for years and they recommend that I use Firefox instead. As proof of this they emailed a link to an Apple Support discussion, but it was for Mac OS X Lion v 10.7.4 and Safari 5.1, even though I told them I am using Mac OS X Mountain Lion v 10.8.2 and Safari 6.0.2. I do not get this error message anywhere else on the web using Safari. I did try Firefox and it seems to work fine, but I prefer Safari and I want to know why Safari is not working as it should be. I am concerned that there is a real security problem with my website host and I need someone to explain why I am getting this error message, what it means, and if it is, in fact, a known problem with Safari or is my website host corrupted? Really tired of technical support playing pass the buck or pretending the problem does not exist.
The specific error message is:
Their response to my inquiry and my reply is shown below:Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. What is selected in each of them? -
Safari won't open secure websites
Since installing Mountain Lion my Safari will only open https websites about 25% of the time. I get the message "can't establish secure connection"..... I close Safari and reopen and at times it will work for a short while. Other times I have to restart the computer. The problem always returns after a while.
It never did this before I installed Mountain Lion. Any ideas?1Password or Trusteer's Rapport security software could be causing Safari to not be able to access https sites.

Safari not allowing access to a secure link w/in a secure website
I've been banking on-line with a distant U.S. bank for several years using Safari and I've had no problem. Just recently, the bank upgraded their on-line security. To regain access I had to contact them and be reissued a new password. I did that and have successfully accessed my account many times. Once into my acct., there are several links to the left of the Acct. Info. page ... perhaps 6 or 7. I'm able to access each link except the link for Bill Payment. I've spent hours on the phone with the bank over the last two days but nothing changes. I had always used Safari with no problem but their browser of choice is Firefox so I changed to that. Still I'm unable to access that one link ... a most important link since the bank is 2000 miles away! The bank support techs said today the problem is with me not them. They have a known bug with Safari but nothing with Firefox. I have also tried Netscape and Camino. All are the same; I get in to all but that one link within the site.
What happens is, I log on... go to my Acct Info, select any link but the Bill Payment and I'm connected. When I select Bill Payment, the browser address bar says that's where I am (Bill Payment) but the page I'm taken to is the Homepage where I log in. I thought for a long time that each time that happened I was being logged out but I'm not. On that Home page is a link asking if I want to return to Online Banking, when I click on that, it returns me to my Acct. Info page. I'm still logged in. The changes on my end since accessing it in the old Safari way are that I've upgraded to Leopard and increased my DSL speed a bit. My ISP has checked the cache server ... that's not a problem.
Earlier today, they told me: You will need to make the website the bank name and checkfree trusted sites. Later, they gave me an https:// address and told me to try adding that link to the trusted site list.
What does that mean? How do I add to the trusted site list in either Safari (my preference) or Firefox? Is it through Keychain Access? I've looked and don't see a cookie for this site nor a certificate. I have viewed their certificate info only via the address bar on Firefox.
I'm puzzled by why the problem would be with me when I can access links within their secure site ... all links except the one. It's not as if I can't get in at all. In their previous system, the bank had two cumbersome levels of security. We logged in, were taken to our acct. info, etc., but when we wanted to access on-line Bill Payment, that link would take us to another page with yet another log in ID and yet another password! That's what this feels like. It seems like it's taking me back to that log in window because it's expecting another login. I'm still not convinced the problem isn't theirs but if there is something I can do re: adding trusted sites to my browser, I'm willing to try.
Can anyeone please help me with this? Thanks. It was not a problem with Safari. It was my not having their second level security url in my Preferences. Once they gave it to me, I set it in my 'always allow' cookies settings. That allowed me access to all secure sites.
I'm still having to use Firefox until they resolve their known issue with Safari.
The software tech I worked with is not a Mac person so he had to consult with his Mac software developer to get the issue resolved. I told him there are a lot of us (Mac users) out here and they're going to have to include us in their plans. There are also PC folks out there with an iPhone using Safari. -
Safari and Firefox crashing on certain websites
I'm having a new problem with my eMac. When I try to access some websites (a banking website; Playhouse Disney website) both Safari & Firefox browsers crash. This is not happening with my MacBook. I've tried running Disk Repair and installing Applejack but nothing changed. I then went into Safari<preferences<security<web content and unchecked the java related boxes. After doing this, the banking website is allowing me access again but both browsers are still crashing on the PlayhouseDisney website. Is this some sort of java conflict? How can I resolve this?
Please speak slowly and use small words, I was only able to do the above things by reading these boards!M - I'm having a problem getting kicked out of Safari on my banking website. I spoke to AppleCare this AM - they said there's no fix for 10.3.9, and I either need to use Internet Explorer, or upgrade to 10.4.

I'm having problems with Safari and Chrome causing my MacBook Pro to crash almost daily when visiting some websites (e.g. ABCNews.com). It is happening more frequently after recent upgrade to 10.6.7, but has happened frequently since i bought this laptop. Not sure if it's an applet thing or not. Here's my problem details and system configuration output from the problem report:

First noticed issues on Chrome with websites like FB, Google Docs, some Apple support pages, Gmail, and other random sites. Chrome would show me the "Aw snap" page. Then tried resolving in Chrome by uninstalling extensions and creating a new profile with no luck. Then when I tested it on Safari, similar websites were crashing, except Safari threw up an error log immediately that looks a lot like the one above. The copied and pasted message is at the end of this post.
Then when I was editing a movie on iMovie, it started freezing up with no error messages or warning whenever I tried to edit a title manually.
It seems like a hardware issue, so I rebooted the Mac holding down D (I think) in order to get the hardware checker. Did that, no issues. Also tried repairing permissions.
If I'm seeing a pattern, I'd say that it was crashing on more complex websites like FB and Google Docs. Many other sites work fine, like this page I'm writing this post in, Google searches, etc.
I'm absolutely stumped on this one. The next thing I try will be to reinstall OS X, but I won't be able to do that for a while because it takes about 12 hours on my internet connection...
Any ideas??
