Safari and Microsoft Messenger
Hey All,
So I downloaded the beta of Safari the other day on my MBP. Ever since then, my Microsoft MEssenger crashes when I close conversations. Anyone else having the same problems? Is there another program out there that I can use to IM with people who use Microsoft Messenger? It's a work thing.
Thanks everyone. I'm glad my mac wasn't the only one experiencing the issues. I just downloaded this week's update from Apple hoping that it would correct the problem, but it didn't. Oh well, I'm just going to use Adium from here on out.

I sign in and when Safari opens, whilst Microsoft Messenger is downloading, the monitor screen vibrates between Safari and Messenger at a very, very, fast pace. Back and forth, back and forth, alternating between the two. When the booting process is completed the computer is fine. Everything is OK. Anyone know what is causing this, and what to do about it?
YES .... but they have always been set to open at login. I must admit that if Messenger isn't set to open at login this doesn't happen. But even though Safari opens at login, the opening page in Safari doesn't open; I have to click on Safari again, (when I am reminded after the computer has booted-up), because the monitor screen is just blank! Then after a click on the Safari icon the screen fills up in a second. Gees, what have I unintentionally done?

Can a safari and microsoft window share equal space?
Is it possible to have two application windows open (one say safari and the other microsoft word) and be able to see both windows at the same time clearly? For instance if I am in the process of writng a review on an article i read on cnn.com and i dont want to keep switching btwn. the two windows
Welcome to the discussions!
You can adjust the size of the windows to fit one side by side. Just drag the bottom right corner and adjust to fit.
The MB's screen is a little small for that, but it can work if you fiddle with it. -
Can't merge both my Skype and Microsoft messenger ...
Hello,
I have 2 accounts (skype and Microsoft). While following the "how to", I log into Skype using my Microsoft user ID, sign in without issues, it then prompts me if I have a skype account, which I type in, it recognizes it and accepts it, then asks to merge both accounts... I select merge, it then defaults back to the login screen with the Skype user ID instead with "! Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later".
What am I doing wrong?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hey,
Could you tell me the way to merge by Skype account with hotmail via skype profile website option which you mentioned.
I am also displayed with "Somethng went wrong" , when i try to merge by logging in with the skype application -
I'm not sure what's going on but I came home this afternoon, the power apparently went out, and now. all of a sudden, I can't log into MSN Messenger and I keep getting a message when I log into Hotmail that the certificate has expired and that Safari doesn't recognize the url. I tried to launch Messenger. I have it set so that it launches automatically. Because of whatever is going on, I get an error message saying it doesn't recognize my address or password. I've deleted preference list files, reinstalled Messenger, restarted my computer, checked my internet settings...I'm at a loss. I'm sure this question should be posted to Microsoft but their lame a&*ed site doesn't offer ANYTHING in the way of actual support. Is there something I can do on my end or do I have to wait until this certificate issue is resolved?
In Safari Preferences Security tab Show Cookies and delete the ones related to MSN or Messenger or Hotmail or Microsoft. If that doesn't work you might try resetting Safari but you'll lose your Bookmarks if you don't backup your Users/Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist file and you'll have to reset Safari preferences.

On two different occasions after updating to Yosemite this has happened. On the first occasion I had two documents open in Microsoft Word and after looking something up on Safari, attempted to go back to the two open documents. Microsoft Word was showing as open, but the documents were nowhere to be seen and I also could open nothing else and was forced to force quit without saving my work on those documents.
A similar thing occurred today with Safari. I had many tabs open in one window in Safari. I closed my laptop to move to another room, and upon opening my laptop again Safari was still open, but all my tabs of different research papers I had were gone. When I chose the "reopen all windows from last session" option, it reopened windows I had not had open for many days, and not the ones I had been working off that day.
This is extremely annoying and as a scientist, I was forced to once again look up the many papers I needed for a grant proposal that I had not yet copied down reference information for. Why is this happening?I see you have used Clean My Mac. If you search these forums you will find that running apps like this can cause problems. Start with this link:

Hello all,
I'd really appreciate any input on this issue. I'm not especially expert with regard to computer systems and software, so I ask that you please bear with me; I'll try to provide the best information I can. What has been happening with my computer is that it has been freezing and crashing, even with only Safari and Microsoft Word open. More information about the system as well as what I've done so far is below.
I have a mid-2012 13-inch Macbook Pro with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory (two 2 GB cards), and an Intel HD Graphics 4000 card. I am running I have approximately 280 gigs free on my 500 GB Apple HDD. I am running OS X 10.9.3 (13D65), Kernel version Darwin 13.2.0.
In March or April of this year, my computer started seriously slowing down and freezing and crashing. (I think that this was around the time I upgraded to Mavericks, but am not 100% positive.) Since it is my only computer and I'm a PhD student, it took me until May to seriously address the issue. I ran Apple hardware diagnostics and the disk utility (verified the disk; verified & repaired the permissions), and tried uninstalling programs I thought might be causing issues, but nothing improved. Since it didn't appear to be a hardware issue, I decided to do a clean install of Mavericks with a full software update [and didn't use a time machine backup like I'd done in the past; I only backed up files and bookmarks this time and installed new versions of all my programs]. Although my computer ran better for a few weeks, it started slowing down again, and lately has been crashing on a near-daily basis.
After reading through the fora, I re-ran disk utility (disks check out fine; one permission -- for Safari -- seems to refuse to be repaired), re-ran Apple Hardware test twice (no issues found), and have been running the Activity Monitor [I put it in my dock with the bars showing CPU usage]. Today, when my computer started seriously slowing while I had only two programs open (Safari & Microsoft Word), the Activity Monitor icon on the dock showed all four bars at max.
I managed to get a few screencaps of the Activity Monitor:
So, this suggests to me that either (a) I have insufficient RAM to run Mavericks and run basic computer programs, or (b) there is some other issue.
Do you all have any recommendations as to the best way to proceed? I don't have a lot of cash, so I can't really spend money unless it is really warranted. Would it be worth running OnyX first? Or is this a pretty clear indication that I need new RAM? Alternately, are there any other issues that seem likely (an undetected hard drive problem, etc.)?
Thank you!Hi Melophage,
Thank you. Although it is possible something was running in the background, in Force Quit, the only applications visible were Finder, Microsoft Word, and Safari.
I ran Etrecheck and have included the output here:

Microsoft Messenger 5.1.1 Mac Vers incompatibility??
Easy one but I'm stumped:
I've just updated to 10.4.7 and Microsoft Messenger will not boot - at all.
Any ideas? Been on to Microsoft but they're not sure... Everything else 'hunky-dory'..
ThanxDavid,
What version are you using?
The latest is 5.1.1.
Edit:
Sorry, I just noticed that you are using 5.1.1. Not sure what else to suggest, it seems to be working fine for me.

Does Anyone Know If Mac is fixing it's Safari Webcam and Instant Messeng
Does Anyone Know If Mac is fixing it's Safari Webcam and Instant Messenger Problems? It doesnt see webcams or if it DOES Instant MESSENGER wont...?
Thanks! This is the printing and faxing section, so you'll probably not get much help here.
If you're referring to MS Messenger, that's down to Microsoft. They rarely update the Mac version of Messenger, and it doesn't support video calls / conferencing. Try Skype, that's multi-platform and works with my iSight camera.

I downloaded updates for "Office for Mac" a few days ago and it won't finish. It keeps saying I have to close Safari, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint and I don't have any of these open. Can anybody help me?
Hi Anne,
Did you do this through one of the Office app updates, or did you download it directly from the Microsoft website?
Whichever way you tried it, I would try it the opposite way this time, although simply repeating what you did before may also work. -
Microsoft Messenger or Ebuddy connects and disconnects
Hello
I've just bought my iPhone 4 a month ago. I'm very happy with it (formerly a BlackBerry user) but there's an issue that is driving me crazy. I've installed Microsoft Messenger and it connects and disconnects every 3 minutes. Also I've tried with Ebuddy but it has the same behaviour. It's quite strange because with BlackBerry I had no issues regarding this app
My carrier is Movistar (Colombia) and I have an unlimited data plan
Do anybody know how to solve this? I've read the Messenger's reviews on the Apple Store and it seems that a lot of people (in Latin America at least) are having the same problem
Thank youYou need to contact Microsoft about a problem with their iPhone app and the same for the app developer for eBuddy.

Microsoft Messenger and MSN Messenger
Does anyone know how to use Webcam oR Video Call in Microsoft Messenger or MSN Messenger in MAC OS X Leopard? Coz i cannot fing any button for it. Thx before.
In a word, you can't. Unsupported. Adium does a poor attempt with a plugin that only works if others have the same plugin; and I am told that iChat will work, but this is a complex set up if you want MSN.
To the rescue comes aMSN, or Alvaro's MSN an Open Source application that will work with a webcam although sometimes it is a little creaky.
I note that your "location" is shown as GMT +7, which sounds awfully close to here. If you are trying to use any other languages than English (particularly Thai) there are problems. Let me know as I have an earlier version for the purpose. -
I'm running a G4 Dual 1 Ghz with 1.5 Ram on 10.4.9 and Mail, Safari, iPhoto, Software Update and Yahoo Messenger crash on startup. Pro Tools (which is why I remain on 10.4.9) Firefox (which is how I can communicate now) and iTunes work fine.
iPhoto crashed and never started again back when I was on Panther. However, all the others started crashing on startup shortly after I upgraded from 10.4 to 10.4.9.
I have run Disk Utility to verify disk and repair permissions. With the exception of iPhoto, it seems that the others crash when it starts to stream from the Internet.
Any ideas? Here's what console showed. Not much:

My assumption on things such as Mail and Safari is that once I upgraded the system those applications would upgrade as well. As to Yahoo Messenger, I downloaded the proper version and reinstalled, but it crashes as well.
Seems to be something when it's about to connect to the Internet--with the exception of Firefox, which is why I can post now.
Mike
PS -- I'd consider the 10411 combo update, but Digidesign only supports Pro Tools 7.4 up to 10.4.9. That said, many people use it with 10.4.11 and I'll definitely try the 10.4.11 upgrade before I try an entire system reinstall. -
I log into my msn as normal but when i close the chat window it is giving this error message.

Microsoft messenger reading as a hard drive image on desktop
I've just got my mac, downloaded microsoft messenger for mac and i don't know what's gone wrong but theres a icon on my desktop reading "microsoft messenger" and when I try to eject it is says "the disk microsoft messenger is in use and could not be ejected. try quitting applications and try again"
Is there any way to resolve this?
ThanksSoftware for Mac OS X usually comes packed as a ".dmg" or ".pkg" file. If you have downloaded the file from Mactopia (Microsoft's Mac page) then it's dmg. Double-click on one of these files and it will get mounted like a real partition or removable device (e.g. like a usb stick). If you didn't change the default settings of Safari (the built-in web-browser) downloaded dmg-files are mounted automatically this way.
Just double-click the icon on your screen and wait for a window to pop up that indicates to drag-and-drop the "Microsoft Messenger" icon to the "Applications" folder. Do that. This way you install software in Mac OS X (i.e. by dragging it into your Applications folder). Now the program should be available for you to use.
If you still can't remove or delete the icon on your desktop try rebooting your machine. Afterwards you should be able to delete the downloaded dmg-file (you won't need it anymore).
Hope this helps. Let me know if that solved your question.
