Safari and Network issue

I am having an issue with Safari, ITunes, System Update and Mail connecting to the network. I know my network is working because Firefox works just fine; that is what I am using to post this message. Also, I have ran network diagnostics a number of times and it claims to be working fine. Every time I try one of these programs a message will appear such as: "The network connection was refused. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again", "Software update cannot check for updates because of a network problem", or "Safari can’t open the page because it could not connect to the server."
I have already tried restarting the computer, unplugging all the lines to my DSL, turning the DSL modem off and on, repairing disk permissions, using the Cocktail Utility, and, as I stated above, I have ran network diagnostics.
So far, all efforts have proven futile.
Mac Mini (G4)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Okay...
Just in case anyone else has this issue, this is how I fixed it. I just kinda stumbled onto this solution. I have no idea whatsoever how this works, but it does.
I went into System Preferences, clicked on Network, and then clicked on Proxies. In the box "Web Proxy (HTTP)" was selected. I unselected it and clicked "Apply Now". All my problems then mysteriously vanished.

  • Safari and Facebook issues since Yosemite upgrade

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I have been having numerous issues on Safari with Facebook, but not on any other website.  The issues are:
    - Sometimes (maybe 10% of the time) only loads a few posts in my timeline (as few as 4) and then stops
    - Sometimes (maybe 50% of the time) a few pictures are not displayed, but only a little question mark
    - Sometimes (about 10% of the time) I cannot click any of the links
    - Sometimes (about 20%) I get a Failed to Open Page screen with the message Safari cannot establish a secure connection.
    I have tried the following:
    - Turned off any extensions
    - Cleared the History and Cache (as well as moving the cache.db file for Safari into Trash and then restarting Safari)
Neither of these seemed to have any effect.  Any ideas what to do next?
If I delete Safari and re-install, is there some way to keep all my bookmarks?

    Hi ..
If you delete Safari on a Mac running Yosemite v10.10, there are no standalone downloads to reinstall the app. You would have to restore OS X using OS X Recovery. Better to troubleshoot the currently installed Safari app.
    Try OpenDNS.
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
    Click + and type:
    208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
f that doesn't help, try Google's DNS >  Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found

  • Safari and Network problem

I have an MBP and a iMac 24" both Intel core 2 duo computers connected wirelessly to a BT home hub etc. I also have a MBP 2.16g Intel Duo.
The core 2 duo MBP and Imac both have network and browser issues where the older MBP is ok.
The network drops out and I have to reset them to re connect.
Safari and Firefox wont allow me to login to some web sites with user names and passwords like ebay where as the old MBP will login with no problems
Any ideas, all are up to date and checked for viruses etc

    The probable culprits could be:
    1. Preference files are damaged
    2. Cache file corruption
    3. Incompatible Contextual Menu Items
    4. Incompatible Input Managers
    5. Incompatible Internet Plug-ins
    6. Bad Startup Items
    7. Incompatible Preference Panes
These for starters. They would be items in the /Home/ or /Home/Library/ folder. I would suggest you start by installing AppleJack - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - then following the instructions to boot into single-user mode and run the AppleJack routines - use the automatic mode.
For Safari I would try clearing its history and other caches.

  • Safari and HughesNet Issues.

Hello fellow Mac users. I am at my wits end. I had a HughesNet system installed 3 weeks ago and want to blow up both my Mac and the dish. I can not get more then 3 pages to load correctly. I have 1 of 3 things happen.
1- Say I am viewing Yahoo then go come to Apples website. It stays on Yahoo but my header bar says Apple. No matter what I do it stays on that first site. I have to end up shutting down Safari and try again.
2- I get half the page loaded then it stops and goes to a totally different page altogether. Very freaky...
3- This is the most common... URL Not Found. I will have to try the site 6-10 times.
I have spent 5 hours with HughesNet Tech support and they say it is my computer and not them. Well it never did it before them but hey stranger things have happened.
Any help? Any ideas? Thank you very much....

Apple's WebKit seems to have issues with satellite connections. Download and try Camino instead. We have HughesNet here and Camino is much more reliable. The description of problems sounds like there may be more to it though. First thing is to try Camino, and see if that solves it. If so, you know it's a software thing with Apple's webkit which Safari uses.

  • Safari and Mail issues

Since I updated to Lion both my Mail and Safari have not been working well.  The majority of the times Safari will not even open for me.  Mail will open for me but it will not recieve mail and I will not be able to click anything in Mail (I have to work completely with the arrow buttons).
To get them working again I have to re-start my computer.  This shouldn't be an issue with Lion, but I don't know what the fix is.
    Anyone know?

No problem. They will not be deleted. And you can always backup first your Home folder. Your Application folder is always the same. You must re-configure Safari and Mail to create new preference files, and your System Preferences folder too. Let's see if this works. As for Safari, you can also download from Apple website.

  • Safari and network mess

Ok...I have a Netgear router and my mac has problems connecting wirelessly from it. It's not a range issue because it still doesn't conect properly when the computer is close to it. However, if I repeatidly try and connect(say 20 times) it will eventually connect. My computer does recognise the that the network is there but has problems connecting.
Also, if it does connect, safari has problems loading up pages for some reason. It says it can't find the server. However, on some occasions a webpage will load but very slowly. This is when my network signal strength is high by the way.
Safari does not have these problems if hardwired to the internet however.
Would really appreciate some help please. It's driving me crazy!!!

Of late, there have been reports of Safari having difficulty connecting to the Internet, when a 3rd party wireless router is being used, especially routers not considered "mac friendly".
Have you contacted NetGear to learn if there is a workaround, or a recent firmware patch specific to the Mac Platform?
On the home front, are you using a 2.4 ghz digital telephone? If yes, they are known to create wireless havoc.

  • Safari and Facebook Issue

I just bought my first Mac ever and am having issues that I don't have using Firefox on my Vaio. Facebook loads and loads and loads forever when I click on any link. Only half of the images load on a page. It's really annoying. What's going on?

    Ok..
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies
    Delete all Facebook cookies.
    Quit Safari then relaunch Safari.
If that didn't help, go back to Safari / Preferences. You can access Safari Preferences with a keyboard shortcut: Command , (comma)
Select the Extensions tab. If you installed any Extensions, turn that off, relaunch Safari.
And in Safari / Preferences select the Appearance tab. Make sure: *Display images when the page opens* is selected.
And check your Home folder (accessible from a Finder window in the Sidebar on the left). Open the Library folder then the Internet Plug-ins folder. If you installed any Facebook plugins, move them to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari, try Facebook.
If nothing above has helped, Quit Safari. Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the *com.apple.Safari folder*. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.
You can also try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Quit Safari. Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If Safari loads a Facebook page correctly, move that .plist file to the Trash. If there's no difference, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder.
If you setup any Parental Controls (System Preferences / Parental Controls), that could be causing FB to not load.

  • Safari and Umlaut issues

We run Safari 6.0.2 under MacOS 10.7.5 using an iMac - since a while, don't ask me what happened, Safari does not except any Umlaut (eg, German) anymore. Instead it displays numbers, letters, and signs - all making absolutely no sense. And it is not possible anymore to search properly in Safari using Umlaut like "Zürich". I looked up quite some discussions, but none of them were solving the problem. Looking for good suggestions.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Airport Express Audio Drop and Network issue

I have a Dell Laptop, DLink G604T router and Airport Express. When I first bought the airport express I successfully got it to join my existing Dlink wireless network and I could happily stream music wirelessly to the airport express and maintain a wireless internet connection through the Dlink router.
Since then I started having issues with audio drops to the Airport express and despite doing a lot of searching on the discussion forums and internet and trying different things have never solved the issue.
The one thing that does seem to work is if I create a new wireless network with the Airport Express rather than joining the existing Dlink one. I can then stream music flawlessly all day long. The down side is I then can't get internet access wirelessly at the same time. I have to disconnect from one network and connect to the other.
If I connect the dlink router to the airport express by ethernet and use the Dlink router just as a modem I think the issue will be resolved but this is not convenient due to position of router and airport express.
So the question is, Can I get the Dlink router to join the Airport Express Wireless network wirlessly rather than the AE joining the Dlink wireless network? Any thoughts on whether this is possible and if so how?
Dell Inspiron 500m   Windows XP Pro

I had one AE base unit, where network connection would disapear every other day. The light would still be green on the AE, but the signal from the AE could not be picked up nor seen by the computer. Only turning the AE off and back on, would make it appear and work again. I Changed the AE unit, and I dont have the problem any more. I didnt change any settings at all.
So in my case, it was the AE base unit that was malfunctioning.
I have also seen similar problems with a different cause: That the wifi network card in the computer wasnt connected properly. ..
I dont think its a software problem
    good luck

  • Safari and java issues

Hi, i am using a brand new MBP with Leopard. I play a java based game called Runescape in one window, and in another window i have their (also java) forum opened. When i try to switch windows, by ex. clicking on a link in forum window, there is some flashing of both windows appearing (like one is highlighted and than another), and i have to click more than 2 or 3 times before the desired window is selected. I have no such problems on my PowerBook G4 with tiger and latest Safari on it. Any ideas?

The newly discovered zero-day flaw in Java 7 is so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned users to disable or uninstall it, and Apple has disabled the Java 7 plugin on Macs through its OS X anti-malware system, in order to protect users from a potentially serious security issue.

  • 2010 Mac Mini display and network issues after Mountain Lion installation

I just installed Mountain Lion on my 2010 Mac Mini, but now the display won't work and it isn't showing up on my network.  I have it hooked up to my TV (I don't have another screen for it) via HDMI.  Also, I've mainly used this computer by using the share screen function with my laptop, so I don't have a keyboard or mouse for it either.  The Mini is no longer showing up on my laptop's network list...  Any suggestions?

I would see if you borrow a USB keyboard and mouse
from some one, because otherwise trouble shooting the
problem will be next to impossible as sometimes the fixes
and diagnostics require the keyboard (PRAM reset, Hardware
    Test, etc.).

  • IBook G3 Airport and network issues!!

    Help!
    I have an iBook G3 900 MHZ, OS X Version 10.4.11
I am trying to connect wirelessly using a Linksys router and cable modem. There is a non-Mac laptop in the same house that is able to connect to the network, but I'm not able! Airport doesn't recognize this or any other wireless networks when I click on the icon in the upper right corner of the main screen. I can connect using an ethernet cable, but not wireless.
It worked before, and all of the sudden, decided it wanted to stop working...
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks!

Assuming the iBook used to be able to connect and now it won't, you can check these items:
    1. make sure airport is turned on in the menu bar
When you click on the airport icon, do you see any networks?
    2. check in your *apple>location> network preferences>network port configuration* to make sure that airport is checked
    3. Put your location on automatic
    4. make sure that the router is not hiding its SSID (name of network)
    5. make sure that mac address filtering is not turned on in the router, which is a feature that only allows specific wireless devices to connect, with the owner of the network being the one who grants the permissions.
If all of that checks out, then have you removed your airport card at all since it last worked? Have you repaired permissions, made sure that the network name and password you are using and the type of encryption being used are correct?

  • Safari and google+ issues

I've recently discovered that when using Safari (most current version) that many of the icons which were once active in google+ are now inactive only when using safari. these icons work when using google chrome. Also, i've noticed that whenever I do an image search on the google search engine these images cannot be loaded to full size. The list of images will display but once I click on them they will not load up.
    Anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • Safari and other network issues

Problem 1: Since I upgraded to Leopard, I have not been able to use Safari for web browsing. When I attempt to access a page, I receive the following message:
    Forbidden
You don't have permission to access http://www.google.com/ on this server.
Apache Server at www.google.com Port 8100
I get this message for all sites tried. The interesting thing is that I can connect via FireFox 3 to any page I try. Also, my wife on older Safari version in OSX10.4.x can also connect fine.
Problem #2: Cannot connect to my idisk since upgrade to 10.5 and Mobile Me.
When I attempt to conncet to my idisk, I receive the message:
Your iDisk is not available because connecting to the idisk server failed.
An unexpected error occurred.(error code -5016)
I have tried doing both of these from work and home on different networks. I think the problem is local to my machine. I can connect to the internet and network in other ways fine. Firefox works fine, IE via Parallels works fine (except it is within windows - but that is another story). I can file share and access other machines fine.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    thanks.

Thanks for your answer Barney-15E. It turned out that Comcast had set a proxy when they last serviced my cable modem and it was routing everything through port 8100.
For the benefit of others who may have the same problem. If you find a Comcast Proxy in your proxy settings looking something like this:
    Address: actsvr.comcastonline.com
    Port 8100
You can delete it. Found this response on another forum and it seemed to do the trick:
"This is a simple fix. You have a proxy checked (Comcast is famous for this) in your Internet Explorer. Go to Tools->Internet Options. Then, click on "Connections" and then "LAN Settings". Under "Proxy Server", it likely has the box checked. Mine said:
    Address: actsvr.comcastonline.com
    Port 8100
This, for me, was a clear Comcast hack that they probably did when when they installed new service. Just uncheck the box and clear out the "Address" and "Port". Then, click on "Ok"."
