Safari and page loading errors -- slooooow

Folks:
I have noticed the following (Safari 3 or Public Beta 4)
First use the Safari "Windows" menu and open the "Activity" window.
Now pick a page from any number of those pages that open 'slowly'.
Watch what happens in the Activity window...
What I bet you see is that some element(s) in the page 'can't be found'
Safari seems to sit and poll for missing elements for a loooong time.
While Safari is busy polling to get the page open, go ahead an launch Firefox.
Wait for Firefox to render whatever its home page is and then give Firefox the url that Safari will still be trying to render.
Firefox will load and render the page well before Safari finally gets around to it.
NOTE: If there are no page errors and all elements are found then Safari loads the page quickly!
The standard stuff I see in the forum here about permissions and disk space don't apply here.
This is a side by side, real time, same context test of the browsers and if there are any page "issues" then Firefox blows Safari out of the water.
Seemd to me we need a prefence that says:
"If you can't find a page element right away go ahead and ignore it"
Is there such a beast hiding away in a hidden preference?
What's totally annoying about this issue is that it is largely caused by the equivalent of junk mail on the web. Its appalling how much garbage inhabits most pages today.... Activity window makes it pretty clear what the real cost of "free" is....
Comments? Any way to avoid this painful slowness?

Hmm - thanks for the tip!
I'm a uVerse customer so my mac is on ethernet cable wired to uVerse router.
The DNS setting for the Mac were pointing to the uVerse router.
I don't really want to head off on a DNS adventure wiht UVerse..
(I need to get work done!)
So what I did was simply add the OpenDNS servers to the list on my mac.
It does seem to have improved things a bit! So thanks for that.
I guess I don't have a handle on how the mac would handle this multiple DNS business...
A given request goes out to all at once and its just a race?
A request is given in list order and passed on after a 'try' interval?
If the Mac is a passing everything through the uVerse router is this multiple DNS setup now actually creating MORE traffic?

Constant & erratic "Page Load Error" with Safari and Firefox

A week or two ago, I started getting constant "Page Load Errors" ('this page cannot be found', etc) when browsing with either Safari or Firefox. These are not dead sites that time out, but are very live (and cannot be summoned no matter how many times refresh)!
Something is wrong on my computer's end: I have strong wireless, have tried connecting with ethernet, and have used a different network. All of these produce the same result, where about half of the sites I try to connect to are instantly declared as dead by any browser I use.
I am not using any firewall, and have emptied both browser's caches.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem. It only happens at home over my DSL connection. Here is what I have tried and the results.
This really started bothering me since I upgraded to a recent Macbook Pro. I tried my original MBP with Leopard and found it doing the same thing. I ended up testing from my G4 and it works fine. The problem occurs over wireless and wired. I tried changing my MTU size with no change. I thought it was DNS but changed to other DNS and it didn't make a difference. Happens in Safari and Firefox. I am thinking it has an effect on iTune store also. The problem goes away when I VPN in to work, comes back when I close the VPN.
Just tonight I installed an clean 10.5 Leopard on my original MBP. Safari works perfectly. Instead of updating to 10.5.6, I download the 10.5.5 update. After updating the problem reappeared.
Again, my G4 with latest Tiger update work fine and both Macbook Pros with the latest Leopard have a problem over my DLS connection. They work perfectly fine at work and other locations.

I can't access this one website, when I get page load error message, even when my cookies/cache are cleared?

For the past couple of days, I'm not able to access this one website: http://www.eboards4all.com/364378/. In the past, I've been able to access it fine, even on Safari, up until last Wednesday. Then I've been getting the page load error message on Firefox or page not loading message on Safari. I've asked others who use our forum via email about it--they're able to get to it fine. I believe, this all started, when I downgraded Firefox on my OS X, last week, by accident, and had to go to a lower 3. My Imac is 6 years old and I don't have money for the latest versions or the new one to come out last week.

If you think it might be your Firefox version, you might be able to run 3.5.19. Certainly that would be more secure than 3.0.11.

Slow start and page load on 10.8.5?

I recently upgraded to 10.8.5 from 10.6.8. It now takes several tries to get the system to start, and page loading on the net seems slower. Is this normal?

Do a backup, preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.

All I get is Page Load error about a week after installing Broadband. IE does not work either

I finally conneted to BB with Virgin. All went well until about a week or two later. All I get is Page Load error. Same with IE. Contacted Virgin and they said there is something blocking access to the Internet. The LAN connection is there and router is all lit up. I am cable connected. Ive switched off and rebooted loads. WRT150N router page load error

My router is not being recognized by the cable modem. When I try to log on, I get a message that says "Page Load Error". Can any one offer any suggestions? Thanks!

Try Internet Explorer, it usually works...
If you do not have Internet Connection then reset your router to factory defaults and then re-configure it...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

Firefox works with dial-up but get "page load"error with FIOS

Firefox works well with a local dial-up, but I keep getting "page load"error message when I try to use FIOS. The connections look good,and Firefox is enabled with the Windows security firewall.
I did have some connections unplugged when I was moving the computer and router around.
I have run out of ideas to fix it.

Getting Page Load Error while opening a Opportunity in new window

Hi All,
outbound SSO is enabled.
when i try to punch-in to my application from CRM through opportunity web link with Web Link Target as "open in custom tab" its working properly, but when i have Web Link Target as "open in new window" i am getting page load error. previously with out Outbounf SSO it is working properly.
Do i need enable any settings in CRM

when the web link target is "open in new window" or "open in current window" the request send to third party application from CRM ONDemand is HTTPS request as SSL is not enabled it is giving "page load error"(In the web link we are specifying http only) (User athentication type is "username & password/ SSO")

Slow FF startup and page load speed

TIP TO IMPROVE SPEED(?): My FF startup and page load speeds increased dramatically when I used the auto feature in Ashampoo WinOptimizer 6 to adjust my internet settings. I've been using the comparable feature in TuneUp Utilities 2009 and FF speed was worse than abysmal. Hope this helps some of you. (You can obtain a trial version from Ashampoo or CNET; actually v7 is out and appears to be even better.)

Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive (the drive itself, not the volume icons below it.) Is the SMART status "Verified?" If not, replace the drive immediately. If the status is "Verified," the drive may still be failing. Back up all data, if you haven't already done so. Reinstall Mac OS X, then run Software Update. Test with all wired peripherals disconnected. If it's still slow, you have a hardware problem.

Safari and Firefox loading wrong pages since 10.6.5 update

I have an issue on two completely separate Macs since upgrading them to 10.6.5. After a few hours use, links within some web pages, in Safari or Firefox, will resolve to very random places. For example I click a news article link on the Yahoo home page, and it takes me repeatedly to a monster.com job listing page. Or if I am in Yahoo mail and I click Calendar, it takes me right back to yahoo mail and does not open the calendar page. Sometimes I can click a link in the bookmarks bar like the one for www.yahoo.com and it gives me a page not found error. Totally repeatable once this behaviour starts - if the wrong page load problem starts on any given link, it repeatedly goes to that wrong page every time that link is clicked. Tried using Firefox as well as Safari - same exact bugs occur there once this behavior starts. So its not just Safari!
If I run Cocktail and run the weekly script, the problem usually gets instantly fixed, for a little while, then it eventually comes back.
It appears that some cache, perhaps the whatis or lookup databases (since those get rebuilt in the weekly script), are getting corrupted in 10.6.5, such that browser links get resolved to the incorrect addresses.
Happens on my MacPro Quadcore i7 as well as a friends MacBook Pro 17, 2009 unibody. Both started showing this problem on both firefox AND safari after the 10.6.5 update. Have tried resetting Safari, rebooting, and using them on a different wireless network, to no avail.

Websites Don't Load. Just reverts to Page Load Error.

Like I said in the title, every time I go to a website, it just loads for about half a minute before going to the error page. Strangely, this only happens for new sites that I visit. Ones that I have visited before seem fine. (By the way, this only started to happen recently, that's what I mean by before)

Something similar happened to me recently and so I *deleted all cookies* and *emptied the cache* in Safari, and that seemed to clear things up.

HELP! SAFARI AND FIREFOX BROWSER ERRORS

Im looking for some help with my Mac Book Pro. For the last two weeks Ive been having serious issues with browser errors. I currently use Firefox and Safari. Certain links do not work properly or not at all. I just click and nothing happens. I have Net Barrier 5 and been running it for about a year. Its like all of sudden everything just starting malfunctioning.

At least part of the problem, especially since the issue is effecting both browsers, is Net Barrier.
You are already running an operating system that protects your Mac against virus and malware, read here: Snow Leopard Has You Covered
You might want to consider uninstalling NetBarrier software.
Another thing. Ive been running repair disk permissions and everyday its correcting what appears to be the same errors?
Those aren't errors, they are "messages"... if run Disk Utility to repair disk permissions, if you see, "Repair Permissions Complete", that's it. Nothing more to do.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing problems if they are outdated. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Try emptying the Safari cache from the Safari Menu Bar. Safari/Empty Cache. You can also try Resetting Safari from the same menu.
Web pages include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
For Firefox from the Tools menu, select Clear Recent History... .
From the Time range to clear: drop-down menu, select the desired range; to clear your entire cache, select Everything. Click the down arrow next to "Details" to choose what history elements to clear. Click Clear Now.

Safari and Pages

My safari doesn't load or let me type in the search bar or exit the app without shutting down the Mac. It also has been loading but not completely a page since December! Pages also won't let me type or exit the app without shutting down.

I just gave the link to prove that it's not the same product than Pages.
I guess that, like quite every product, it fit the needs of some users and is useless for others.
