  • OS X Safari and Hotmail Certificate Problem

Hello Apple discussions,I Am having problems accessing part of a microsoft hotmail account which explains below
I Have a problem with my hotmail Web account Using OS X 10.6.4 Safari 5.0 when I Try adding another email account to my hotmail account where it says: Add an e-mail account on the left side pane of hotmail. when I Click on Add an e-mail account I Get the error message for a Certificate problem: safari cannot verify the identity of the website ¨col0-sec.mail.live.com¨ I Am using OS X 10.6.4 and Safari 5.0. I Have tried using a earlier version of safari but the same problem occurred so I Tried using Google Chrome (most recent) and Opera Browsers for MAC and with no luck, the exact same problem. so I Tried adding an email account using a windows xp machine, it had no problem adding an email account so the problem seems to be OS X problem. It seems to be something wrong with the certificate for validation on the Microsoft website I Think.I Can send a screen shot of the entire message that popped up for the invalid certificate if needed to fix this problem.

Thought of something else you might try.
Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select "My Certificates" or on the left.
If you see a Microsoft/Hotmail certificate, double click that. Click the gray disclosure triangle so
it faces down. Click the pop up menu next to: When using this certificate and set it to: Always Trust.
Relaunch Safari and try logging into your Hotmail account.

  • Safari and Mail fonts problem 10.4.2

So I cleaned my fonts up and left the core fonts in system>library>fonts as one is supposed to but now I get this [img src="http://www.markclay.net/Picture%201.png]. Mail also presents the same problem .
    Firefox offers no such problem.
I've set the fonts on safari and mail to be one's I know are running but to no avail. Any clues?
    Thanks
    Marko

What the h was going on
    there then?
Some non-Unicode fonts that users install are constructed in ways that make them incompatible with OS X Cocoa apps, because they will replace the real fonts and generate gibberish. Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic are the two most common.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Safari and iTunes having problems accessing secure sites

I've been having problems with iTunes not being able to access the iTunes Store. I can browse the store but can not add anything to my shopping cart. I decided it was time to see if Safari was having problems with secure sites and sure enough I discovered that it can not access secure sites either. The only way I've been able to access secure sites is via Firefox.
A typical scenerio is that I can not log onto my Apple ID. As soon as I click on the "sign in ID" link I get a pop-up stating that a secure connection to store.apple.com can not be established.
So far I've tried clearing the Safari cache and deleting site keys from my stored key chains. Nothing helps.
    I'm running Safari 1.3.1 and iTunes 4.9.

    Can anyone help?

  • Mac mini, Safari and HP printing problems

Just got a Mac Mini in March. I don't know if this is a Mac problem, an HP problem, or a browser problem.
I simply cannot seem to get it to print web pages in any usable way from Safari. I even downloaded Mozilla Firefox, and it isn't really any much different. For example, I used to be able to log on to my bank and print off the current transactions page, either the whole thing or highlight and print a selected number of pages. My old HP2110xi printer worked GREAT with our PC.
Now, with Safari, it prints only the visible frame, cuts off mid way, or spits out page after page of blank paper. I tried highlighting the page, copying it and either pasting it into a Word document (doesn't work too well because it totally destroys the format) to print or saving it as PDF. It still won't give me the entire printout of the whole document, and acts like it doesn't even see it ( just spits out blank pages)
I downloaded the updated software from the HP site, and since this seems only to be a problem with printing from the internet, I know it has to be related to the way Apple based browsers work with it. One hint I have is that the whole format for the Print commands is totally different, and requires that I reset the print quality, etc., each and every time I print a document.
    Any suggestions?

Is there a check box option for something like "Fit to page"? I once had a similar problem (not with an HP printer) and unchecking that box did the trick. Don't know why.

  • Safari and google mail problem

A couple of days ago google mail stopped working in Safari (it works fine in Firefox). When I use the shift key when composing mail the curser jumps to the To: or Subject: box. I think it started happening after I installed an update. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a fix?

I see katnoodle's post below addresses the same problem. The fix that works is changing version to English US and clicking on newer version.

You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Safari and Quicktime Update Problem & Shut-Down Problem

Hi, recently my macbook ran the automatic software update. After I clicked the ''restart'', the installation was stuck (the blue bar never grew). Then I had to push the button to shut the machine down manually. Ever since then, the machine can never be shut down, except manual shutting-down.

  • Problem w safari and hp laserjet printer

Thanks for any help. My computer cannot find the hp laserjet 4050tn in printer preferences. It goes through a wireless router but I am not using wireless--using ethernet instead. My computer can find other computers on my LAN.
While in Safari, if I try to print a PFD to save to my desktop, Safari crashes every time. If I am on any website to purchase something, and try to print the order number to save on the very last step of the ordering, everything crashes, the order doesn't go through.
How are Safari and the printing problems connected?

    Hi,
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist to the trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.
Restart your PBook. Launch Safari and try printing a PDF.
If that didn't help, check your printer manufacture website for updates for the printer drivers (software).

  • Safari and Preview have color space recognition bugs

I found that both Safari and Preview have problems when viewing photos taken by a Canon DC. By default, the Canon cameras use sRGB for their digital still images. But Preview cannot recognize it and would report "ColorSync profile" as "-" in "Tools/Get Info". I guess that Generic RGB profile is applied in such a condition. If the file is opened by iPhoto or Photoshop, the color space information is recognized correctly. And if sRGB profile is manually assigned to the image using ColorSync Utility, Preview/Safari will give the same vivid color representation as iPhoto/PS do.
The image below can be used to do the experiment.

  • Safari stops responding when I try to bookmark (and other slow problems!)

Two weeks ago my logicboard died, so I sent my ibook out to Apple for it to be fixed. Ever since I got it back this past Tuesday, my Safari has been extremely slow, but nothing else is wrong with my computer. Here are the problems:
    - The biggest issue is that Safari stops responding when I try to make a bookmark. The popup appears to select the bookmark's destination and to enter the name, but when you hit ok, the rainbow wheel comes up and it stops responding, so I have to reset Safari, and now I can't make new bookmarks at all.
    - It lags when it tries to open new windows, especially new tabs.
    - If a new page loads that scrolls at all, and then I try to scroll down, the wheel appears for several seconds until it can load the rest of the page. It's as though it gets stuck before it can scroll.
    - Sometimes when typing, it will also start to lag behind my typing speed, or if I try to click on a new field, it will not immediately allow me to type on occasion.
All these things have never happened before I sent it out. I have reset my cache, and I have tried entering the open DNS addresses in my networks, which has improved loading speed, but hasn't fixed any of these problems. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong and how I can fix anything?

    Try verifying the hard disk.
Boot from your restore disk while holding down the C key until you see the Apple logo, then let go of the C key. You'll see an Installation window, select English. From the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, then click Verify. If DU reports errors, click Repair. If Disk Utility cannot repair the disk you have several options. One is DiskWarrior or
TechToolPro If Disk Utility can repair any errors, go back to the Menu Bar, click Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If you don't have a restore disk, try booting into Safe Mode

  • Bookmarks bar and home page problem in Safari 8.02

Safari 8.0.2 is driving me mad with it’s apparent differences from previous versions. Principally, I no longer have a bookmarks bar and cannot set a home page. So, off I went to the Apple support site at http://www.apple.com/support/mac-apps/safari/ and was amazed to find no reference to 8.02? It all seems to be about Safari 7. (How I wish I could actually go back to that version)
Am I just not seeing something obvious past the frustration of continually finding that so many tasks which used to be so easy in previous OS versions, seem to be so confusing in Yosemite? I am currently running Safari 8.02 installed and updated courtesy of the, (for me at least) disastrous Yosemite 10.10.1.
It really gets my back up to think that Apple forces users to depend on the goodwill of the volunteers on this forum to solve problems with their OS. Clearly, they don’t make enough money to provide the resources to keep their own support pages up to date!
Sorry all, end of rant, but If anybody knows how to get the bookmarks bar back and get the home page preference setting to actually work, can you please help me?
    John

    Hello Linc,
Thanks for your speedy reply. I knew it would be something embarrassingly simple. (although I have to say I was looking for bookmarks, not favourites) Anyway, thank you.
Reference the home page, I am going to preferences/general, with my desired home page as the current one and clicking on set to current page option but whenever I restart Safari, it opens with whatever page was current when I last quit Safari. I have also tried typing the desired homepage in that homepage box but it still seems to have a mind of its own. (I have put a home page icon on the menu bar at the top, next to the url which works fine but I never had to do this before, the homepage setting in general preferences used to work just fine)
    regards,
    John
