I am having the exact same problem with this pop-up: http://www.swamipredicts.com/20628?C=5840
It's annoying! When I reset safari, empty cache, delete cookies, etc. it works for awhile but then it always comes back again.
I am having to use Firefox until I find a solution. Anyone?

  • Mavericks Safari and Pop Up windows

Since upgrading to Mavericks, and the related latest version of Safari, block pop up windows does not always work.  It may work sometimes, but regularly with some websites I get windows popping up to the front.  Block pop up windows is checked.  I've tried cycling it, quiting, restarting all the usual.  It looks to me that either this feature in Mavericks is not working right or some websites have figured out a workaround.  An example of a website that rules safari is adsupplyads.com.  I've removed the cookie but it just comes back whenever I visit some websites.

I haven't investigated the issue, but I have seen that some websites use a javascript that "covers" the entire webpage when it opens. When you click anywhere on the website, the JS opens a new window with an ad.
The only thing I've found to stop those is AdBlock, as William Lloyd pointed out.
I used to just use JavaScript Blacklist to block the Ads that jiggle, make noise, or flash. I don't mind a website making some money to pay for itself, but if the ads are annoying or get in the way, I'd block them. Now, I have to block them all.

  • Safari and pop-up window saying computer is infected with virus

    Hello,
I'm ... "hoping"...this was just scareware stuff - but I was on safari and clicked on a link off of google when I got a pop-up that said my computer has been infected. I think another window popped up and I clicked cancel - and kept on clicking cancel...it kept popping up and I'd click cancel - finally about after say 5 times closing the popup - the original popup was there. I don't think it gave me a choice to cancel...it was like continue or some other choice.
At any rate what appeared next was what looked like file folders and perhaps a scan bar or progress bar and a bunch of stuff about viruses detected. I panicked and quickly just closed the window as quick as possible and now can't even really recall what I saw.
I honestly didn't do anything other than click on a link. So I can't imagine I really did anything. Can you get into trouble just from clicking on a link?? Is there a way to tell if I really did anything? Has anyone else had this happen and know it is either a concern or just scareware??
    Any suggestions?
    Should I be concerned??
    Thanks!!

    Hi
No virus out there affects a Mac directly. Best way to eliminate these intrusive panels is to add DNS server codes to your System preferenes>Network panel.
To do so, open the panel, click on your Internet connection on the left, then select "advanced". In the DNS panel copy/paste these openDNS codes on separate lines: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. Then, select OK, then "apply".
    Restart Safari.
In Safari, open Safari Preferences>Security>Show Cookies. In the spotlight panel, type the name of the website triggering the warning. Remove any cookies that appear.
Lastly, in the Safari Menu, select "empty cache".
That ought to clean up the problem.

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • Ugly pop-ups in RH7 on Safari and Firefox

I have text popups in my RoboHelp 7 project (webhelp). I
upgraded the project from RH5. The webhelp I'm doing
is for Safari and Firefox running on a Mac. The text popups
    display ok on Firefox
(except that the popup box isn't self-sizing). The popups
    also display
on Safari, but in addition to not being self-sizing, each
    popup
displays a label at the top, which is the name of an htm file
    that
RoboHelp 7 apparently created. (I can see these files in my
    Help
project even though I didn't intentionally create them.) Has
    anyone
encountered this? Any ideas about how to fix the appearance
    of
    text pop-ups in Safari?

Thomas' answer is the preferred technique. Sometimes, these pop-ups will block you from quitting Safari. In that case, press option+command+esc, select Safari, and Force Quit. Then, use the shift key with Safari when relaunching it, per Thomas' suggestion.

How can i get rid of this iidiotic pop-up. allple is changing for the worst. you have to buy a new macpro in order to upgrade to a higher system, sounds like obamacare.

You have probably clicked on a mailto: web link which directs links to send e-mail messages to wherever the webmaster chooses.    Go to the View menu -> Show Statusbar if it available, and then make sure the bottom of your screen is visible.  When you hover over a link, if it says: mailto: it will open in your default e-mail reading application set by your browser or your e-mail program preferences.
Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Software Update lets you change how often you see the software update window.

    iMac 27 inches , late 2012, Processor 3,4 GHz Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 Mo, OS X Mavericks 10.9.1
Digidesign MBOX2 PRO Firewre 400 audio interface to a  thunderbolt adaptor through a firewire 800/400 cable.
I’m on Apple.com via Safari  7.0.1 (latest version) watching the christmas add. (http://www.apple.com/#video-tv-spot)
    All is ok.
I launch Garageband 10.0.1, (latest version) the ad’s audio is full ok clicks and pops.
I quit Garageband and tthe ad’s audio  plays correctly.
I launch Logic Pro 9.1.8  (latest Logic 9 version) ,the ad’s audio  is full ok clicks and pops.
I quit Logic Pro and the ad’s audio  plays correctly.
I launch Reason 6.5 , the ad’s audio  is full ok clicks and pops.
I quit Reason and the ad’s audio  plays correctly.
I launch Quicktime 10.3 (latest version) ,  the ad’s audio AND the Quicktime audio is full of clicks and pops.
I quit Quicktime  and the ad’s audio  plays correctly.
I relaunch Quicktime the ad’s audio  is full ok clicks and pops.
I quit Safari and the Quicktime audio is ok.
NONE OF THE ABOVE IF I USE FIREFOX (latest version)
NONE OF THE ABOVE TOO IF Safari runs with the Firefox agent selected!
So, it is not a MBOX2 PRO issue or a firewire cable issue or a thunderbolt adaptor issue.
So it's Safari or Mavericks or ...

Strange. Now the problem is inverted. If Quicktime is running alone, now I get some audio glitches no matter if I choose the aggregate device or the Saffire Le as audio interface. If I launch Logic, the audio is clean.
(As usual all is fine if I use the built-in audio no matter waht sofwares are running)
    The problem is really inverted.
The only way to get clean audio with Quicktime alone is to destroy the aggregate device!
The good thing is that I have the control now. I can get rid of the audio glitches while running Logic.
Oh an btw my firefox is 15.0.1.Latest version. Under Activity Monitor/Disk/Kind, it show Firefox 32 bits.

  • Clicks and pops when QuickTime plays mp3 files in Safari

When I use Safari to play a mp3 file which opens with Quicktime in a new window, the playback is full of tiny clicks and pops. It sounds like there is a conversion (from 44,1kHz to 48kHz) problem, but I don't know how to be sure - or how to change settings to avoid this. It happens with streaming mp3 files from everywhere (not only a single website).
    Anybody else experiencing this?
    Helge K.

No, it's not just you: I get this too.
I can play the same files with any other app sans click, including QT player itself when it's not inside Safari
Very annoying. Did you find a fix?
    cheers
