Safari and QuickTime

So I was messing around with the Safari settings, and for some reason I clicked the "Play Videos in QuickTime Player" tab and now when I visit a website and want to watch a video, it starts up the QuickTime Player and plays it. I would like to be able to play the videos inside the browser's page like they used to but I cannot find the setting to un-click it. I might need to do something to the plug-in but I cannot find that setting either.
Any help would be aprecciated,
Chris

I found the answer on a website.
Question #2
How can I change the tab settings in Safari to open everything in a different tab instead of a new window?

How can I change the tab settings in Safari to open everything in a different tab instead of a new window?
Welcome to Apple Discussions
In your Safari Preferences>General select "open links from Applications" in a new tab in the current window.
There are instances though where a new window opens regardless of the above setting. Using 3rd party SAFT ensures all items open in tabs in the current window. SAFT also offers many other useful features augmenting Safari.

  • Safari and quicktime no longer working

I apologize in advance that I have really no information to offer...but this is really causing me problems.
This afternoon I received my normal system update notice, which included updates for Safari and Quicktime (I have Mac OS X 10.4.11), without really thinking about it I clicked accept and went about my business...after the restart I went online and noticed that absolutely nothing involving quicktime/flash/windows media player files would not show up on screen...I just got the Q with a question mark.
I read through all the discussions for quicktime, deleted and re-installed quicktime, my flash plugins, etc....NOTHING has worked.
At this point I am not sure where to turn, I am only basic in my knowledge of plugins and how things work, but I follow everyones advice and it is really annoying me that I cannot view any kind of video online.
    thoughts? Am I missing something?

for "System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Advanced -> (MIME Settings...) -> Miscellaneous ->" I have "Quicktime HTML (GHTM) checked, while "SMIL 1.0" is unchecked
So is "System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Advanced -> Enable Flash ->" (unchecked)
OK. They both look normal enough.
What plug-ins do you have under the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder? (This one is under the main hard drive area, not you User area).
Run this command in the Terminal if you're not sure and then paste the output here:
    <pre>ls -l /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/</pre>
I have the following listed: a micromedia folder, and "RealPlayer Plugin.plugin
I'm guessing you meant 'Macromedia' instead of Micromedia? Try dragging both of those onto your Desktop for the time being. Unless you have some special reason, internet plug-ins generally go in the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder so that all users of the computer can access them. Plug-Ins present in the User area also take precedence, so there's a chance those might be part of the problem.

  • Safari and quicktime keep crashing

if i run quicktime it crashes as does safari. this is new to me. i've been a mac user for twenty years now and apple's have been known to me for reliability, but this is getting ridiculous. does this have anythig to do w/the new intel macs?
or does safari and quicktime need a apatch?
mind you this is new, when i got the g-5 i didn't have a problem but recently both safari and quicktime keeps crashing intermittantely and it's annoying to say the least.
    thanx
    g5 imac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Based on your inquiry, I'd assume you're using one of the new Intel Macs? If that is so, there is an issue right now where Quicktime and the new procs seem to not like each other much. If you're experiencing this, try forcing QuickTime to open using Rosetta.

  • Safari and quicktime plugin

Hi, I have been having an issue with my safari and its quicktime functions and was wondering if anyone can help. I always get the quicktime symbol along with a question when say for example I go to view a something on youtube, no problem with firefox however. Anyone know what I could do.
    THank you
    Nathan

I had the same problem using OS X 10.4.8 with all security updates. After reinstalling OS X 10.4.4 from CDs which came with my iMac, all images would load into Safari. After downloading all updates till current, I now, once again, get the deselected Quicktime "Q" with a ? instead of some (but not all) images. Installing Flash Player did not help. It is apparent to me that the problem is caused by one of the Apple updates between the original OS 10.4.4 software and the current OS 10.4.8 software with security updates. I do not encounter this problem when using Opera as my web browser. (I am running the same, latest version OS X software without this Safari problem on a iMac G5 and a MacBook Pro core2 duo on the same network.) Help me, please!

  • Interesting Safari and Quicktime observation

I recently booted Snow Leopard into 64 bit mode, and eveything had been going great, except certain media files in Safari (for instance any trailer that didn't launch the stand-alone QT player, but tried to play in the Quicktime plugin) would come up with a question mark.
Tell Safari to open in 32 bit mode fixed it.
So anyone who is having weird Quicktime plugin issues and getting the blue question mark, are you in 64 bit mode? If so, this could be it.
Seems that Safari is fully 64 bit, and quicktime PLAYER is, but the Quicktime PLUGIN is not. So if it tries to load in Safari running in 64 bit, you'll get weird behavior.
I'm back to booting in 32 bit mode, and it's all working fine again.
Had been scratching my head, so just in case anyone has that issue.

for "System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Advanced -> (MIME Settings...) -> Miscellaneous ->" I have "Quicktime HTML (GHTM) checked, while "SMIL 1.0" is unchecked

  • How to print uspto patent images using Safari and Quicktime

    3/18/06
Do you want to know how to print US patent images using Safari? Read on.
When you access the "images" link of a specific patent on the www.uspto.gov/ website using Safari, the page you are viewing is only one small upper left tile of a huge patent image that is not sized to the screen. You can scroll and try to read the page but it's almost impossible. Try to print it out and you only print what's on the screen. Bummer.
    The fix:
Place the cursor on the opened image (it may appear blank), hold down the CONTROL key on you keyboard and click on the image. Two instructions come up. Click on the "Save Image to the Desktop" instruction and a DImg.tiff file will be created on your desktop. Click on the .tiff file and it should open in the Preview program, then simply print out the image. Voila!!!!
Click the yellow arrow in the left margin to access page 2 of the patent and repeat the previous instructions to create another .tiff file on your destop. Do every page and you'll have the patent available to print out one page at a time.
You can then rename the files and create a folder for that specific patent so you can access it later without signing onto uspto site.
It's odd that the ever compatible Apple does not provide seamless compatibility to view and print patent images on the US Patent and Trademark Office's website. Where would they be without protecting their own intellectal property? Let's hope the next version of Quicktime includes the appropriate ITU T.6 or CCITT Group 4 (G4) compression language.
Even the "throw it out the Windows" operating system is up to speed on this issue for America's hard working inventors.
    Keep on inventing.

  • Why Safari and QuickTime don't work on OS 10.3.9?

I have an old Mac G4 running OS 10.3.9.  Safari 1.3.2 does not work properly. Moreover QuickTime does not work at all. I cannot watch the movies on my website. I know my site is OK because everything works with a newer computer. What can I do to improve the situation? The interesting thing is that in the past everything worked fine. The problems started when I reinstalled the system and upgraded it to 10.3.9. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I also apologize for having posted the same question on the Safari forum. But I think the present forum is more appropriate.

When you reinstalled and upgraded to 10.3.9 you perhaps have not applied relevant updates to Java and Flash.
10.3 Panther barely works on the internet anymore so i am not suprised you are having problems.
You can check which Java version you have at the link below
    http://www.javatester.org/version.html
and I'd try another internet browser like Camino. It is 'less old' than Safari is on 10.3, but basically 10.3 has been left behind as far as the internet goes.

  • Safari and QuickTime not working together - still....

Just to report further on this issue of Safari giving a Q with a ? in it when trying to play QT content. I have tried all the offerings of solutions in the older threads to no avail and hoped that upgrading to Leopard would solve the problem, but no. I then upgraded to QT 7.3 that came out this morning but no still don't work. I would have thought that a big a problem as this is for a lot of people would have been solved by now.
So anyone else still having problems?
Anyone any more ideas, because Apple don't seem to...

OK as to older threads this one sums most of them up...

  • Safari and Quicktime VR - virtual visit

I recently tried an iPad and was very disappointed to find that Safari displays neither the Quicktime version nor the Flash version of the virtual visit of our installations.
Spherical panoramas turned out to be key tools for our technical et scientific departments and I am amazed that Apple, the inventor of VR, is unable to offer a good support for this technology.
On Mac OS X, Keynote is (was ?) unable play VR movies, Safari on the iPad does not support VR movies.
I guess we wont buy iPads if we cannot find a solution without starting again expensive developments.
    A

    Yes I wrote a feedback.
I recently published a virtual visit of my institute <http://www.ill.eu/about/movies/ill-virtual-tour-2009/>. I am now receiving demands from other major scientific facilities and each time the question of iPhone and iPad support is raised. Thus I would be really surprised if Apple would stay deaf.
However the King Quicktime and its incredible (but totally hidden) capabilities being dead, the queen Flash being impeached, the dauphin HTML5 being too young, the regency is hard to the people.
I think this closes the discussion with the conclusion "No solution, no workaround yet. Apple, pleeeease !"

Click Software Update from your Apple menu. Make sure your software is up to date.

The older Safari / QT versions may not be able to stream the video.

  • Safari and QuickTime problem?

I'm sorry if this is a duplicate but I sifted through the topics and couldn't find the answer. After trying various things I'm left to post a question.
When I open certain pages there are QuickTime links with question marks inside them all over various parts of the page. Lots of the pages I normally visit like espn.com won't even show anything, and I'm wondering what happened? Did I install a plug-in that messed everything up?
Any help would be most appreciated as using Firefox is becoming annoying. Thanks.

  • Safari and Quicktime Update Problem & Shut-Down Problem

Hi, recently my macbook ran the automatic software update. After I clicked the ''restart'', the installation was stuck (the blue bar never grew). Then I had to push the button to shut the machine down manually. Ever since then, the machine can never be shut down, except manual shutting-down.
Can anyone help me out here?
    Thanks a lot!

Hm. I"m seeing the same problem. Will track replies to this message! Fingers crossed.

  • Safari and Quictime with dynamic innerHTML

I'm working on a website that is doing some cool things with safari and quicktime. The site dynamically updates the media window with a new playlist using ajax, however redrawing the new QuickTime object in the same div causes multiple quicktime players to overlap and play.
Safari is the only browser that has this issue, all other browsers drop the previous quicktime object and creates a new one. Even if I set the innerHTML to null, it seems that safari wants to keep running the player.

You might be better served posting this in the developers forum.

  • Itunes 8.02.02 and QuickTime 7.5.5 Problems

I don't know when it happened since I don't play a lot of video on Itunes or my PC, but yesterday I wanted to download a TV show but I kept getting a bunch of colored lines and then a blank screen.
I have completely unistalled both Itunes and QuickTime (following the direction on the support site), but I still have the same problem. If i try to play QuickTime outside of Itunes, I have the same problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions.
    Thanks

I upgraded all three downloads - iTunes, Safari and QuickTime and was unable to open iTunes after install. I read through some of these suggestions ans I installed QuickTime again, but chose the second option -- WITHOUT iTunes. I did not UNINSTALL anything. And after doing this I was able to access iTunes again.
