Safari and Sites with Untrusted certificates

On my old iPhone 3GS i was able to connect to my work's wireless network by going into Safari and accepting the untrusted certificate that my company has on it's wireless log on page. But now with the iPhone 4, when it comes up with the request to confirm the certificate, Safari crashes and returns to the home screen, is this a know problem with sites like this?

Similar for me. I try to access my work (Fed Govt) email via the web at an https address and mobile safari asks me to accept the certificate. I do, and it crashes. Worse yet, I called Apple to bring the issue to their attention, they went to 2nd or 3rd tier support and came back to me and said its "3rd party" contact them... VERY dissapointed! This same site loaded fine under iPhone OS 3x
I even tried to export the cert from mac's keychain and installing it via the iPhone config utility. Even with the profile there, the phone does not recognize the website certificate and asks me to accept it... and it crashes yet again.

    Spent some time trying to find a Safari download site with no success.  I found lots of Safari sites but no Safari download site.  Where is the iMac Safari download site?

    (The following does not apply to users of Lion OS 10.7 or later)
    If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have) and it is misbehaving:
    N.B. Never delete Safari, never run it under Rosetta, don't use proxy settings, and don't change the application's name or move it from the top level of the Applications Folder to a sub-folder.
    (If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall. Alternatively you can download Safari directly:
    Safari 4.1.3 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
    Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1422
    Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070
    Make sure you download the correct version for your system.
    Also, observe the recommended procedure for installing software: repair permissions and close all applications, install, then repair permissions again.)
    Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
    So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4, Tiger 10.4.11 uses Safari 4.1.3, Leopard uses Safari 5.0.6,  and Snow Leopard uses Safari 5.1.x. If these latest versions of Safari are not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
    (Trying to revert to a previous version of Safari  can have repercussions, as previous versions of Safari used a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, but if you really want to do this post back for instructions on the safe way to do so.)
    Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-ons that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet, and the dreaded CT Toolbar. If you have them, trash them, and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for the latest version of Safari on your current operating system.
    You must also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates. These require a restart and a permission repair.
    To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
    Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
    Home/Library/InputManagers
    especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
    Lastly, the Safari updates require a restart of your Mac, and sometimes even a double restart is required.

  • Safari and Quictime with dynamic innerHTML

    I'm working on a website that is doing some cool things with safari and quicktime. The site dynamically updates the media window with a new playlist using ajax, however redrawing the new QuickTime object in the same div causes multiple quicktime players to overlap and play.
    Safari is the only browser that has this issue, all other browsers drop the previous quicktime object and creates a new one. Even if I set the innerHTML to null, it seems that safari wants to keep running the player.

    You might be better served posting this in the developers forum.

  • Safari and Single Sign on Certificates

    Hi Experts,
    I use service.sap.com in Safari Browser (Lion 10.7.3) internet page & under the below given circumstances, I have a problem loading the page.
    Step 1: Install Firefox (any version) for Mac. Open the service.sap.com internet page and register for Single Sign on Option with the website. After the SSO certificate is added, you may close the firefox.
    Step 2: Open the Service.sap.com website in the safari browser. Browser automatically opens a popup to choose the certificate for single sign on. Choose Cancel in the Pop Up window. Now the page won't load. But if you do the same in the Firefox, the page loads properly. I have tried in Microsoft Windows with different browsers including Google Chrome, Firefox , Internet Explorer 8 and above - all these working correctly by loading the page without the certificate.
    I also could not register for Single Signon from a Safari Browser in Lion 10.7.3;
    Any expert advice is very helpful
    Thanks
    Kasee

    With a workaround, issue is solved.
    I installed Mozilla Firefox, than installed the respective certificate in firefox.
    Now when I open Safari and point to the website, system shows me the correct certificate.
    On choosing the certificate, problem is solved.

  • Slow Safari and Firefox with sys. 10.4.11

    Since installing sys. 10.4.11 both Safari and Firefox have become extremely slow. Safari can take 25, 30 or more seconds to open a page. I haven't noticed a speed change in other apps. I have a DSL router which serves 4 computers. Sys. 10.4.8 was much faster. Any ideas are welcome.
    Thanks.

    I've experienced the same thing. Thought it was my DSL ISP and complained numerous times. Went from avg. 2600 kbps down/ 768kbps up to 860 kbps down and 13 kbps up. This range is consistent on all machines on my network, and with both Firefox and Safari. Last night, I hooked up my IBM lap top and re-ran the test: got 2586 kbps down and 457 kbps up on the PC. Now I think my ISP may be correct -- they don't see a problem with the lines. Looking back, the slow down for the Macs coincides with 10.4.11 updates. Tonight I'll begin looking at the Macs to see why they can't connect at the same rate as before the update, and at the same rate as the PC. Any suggestions on how to restore Mac performance?

  • I lost my Safari and iTunes with IOS6

    Upon upgrading to iOS6, my iPad 2 seems to have lost SAFARI and iTunes.  Settings shows I have Safari in iCLOUD, but I do not have an icon on the mainscreen to use it.  Nor do I have iTunes icon.  I do an iPad search for them with no luck of finding them.  Anyone have any ideas?!?!  HELP!!

    If you can't find them on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find them via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > iTunes and Safari being set 'off' ?

  • IPad Safari and websites with Adobe applications

    As you all know, most of interactive websites uses the Adobe Applications especially Flash Player for the interactive experiance. Why don't Apple come up with a compatibility tool to be add to iOS or the iOS version of Safari and get the most of these websites? Since i got my iPad and iPhone before that and i forgot my laptop; it would be a complete dependancy experiance if the iPad can function as a laptop or even better. I believe that Apple can send us to the next level of the pad experiance.
    Is there a solution?

    Thank you Tom for your help but unfortunetly iSwifter is limited to a wi-fi connection only and does not support 3G connection.
    Barbara, i agree with you about governments, but my point was, if i'm changing to the mobile experiance and depend on it in all my (on the go) transactions, why don't i have the full experiance? the iOS operating system is a solid base for mobile developers to work on rather then developing an app for every function and i'm not talking about Adobe applications only if you get my point.
    Until then, i'll go back to my big and heavy Mac Book pro to make these transactions...

  • Safari don't opens sites with private certificates

    Hi,
    if I try to open e. g. my WebMail site or the time recording website of my current customer which are both protected by a private generated certificate, Safari reject opening the sites and says that the server would not respond.
    But with Firefox or Slimbrowser I do not have any problems to open this pages. And I don't find any setting to change this behavior.
    Does anybody has an idea what to do to open those pages?
    Sighing greetings
    Reiner

    Could it depend on problems with the proxy over here? Because on my notebook I've no problem to connect to my WebMail interface (even if it seems that Safari has much problems to show it in the right way).

  • Safari and self generated ssl certificates https connections

    Hello,
    Anyone know if there is a setting I can accept or install a non-3rd party security certificate in Safari? I can get to sites using https when they are 3rd party verified, but otherwise can not. Usually you just accept or install the certificate and it doesn't prompt anymore. On Safari though it just gives this error:
    "Error: Page could not be loaded. An SSL Error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made."
    Thanks.

    1. quit from all windowed applications then launch Keychain Access
    2. remove from Keychain Access the reference to the self-signed certificate
    3. quit from Keychain Access
    4. in Safari, browse to a site that requires the self-signed certificate.
    Please describe in detail what happens from that point onwards.
    Thanks

  • SSL between NSAPI and WLS with custom certificate and RequireSSLHostMatch=true fails

    I am trying to use SSL for communication between NSAPI and WebLogic
    server (server authentication at the NSAPI).
    Therefore, a custom server certificate is installed on WLS, containing this
    server's hostname. The NSAPI is configured (RequireSSLHostMatch=true) to
    check the hostname contained in the certificate against the WebLogicHost
    parameter in the "obj.conf" file. The corresponding TrustedCAFile is installed
    for NSAPI.
    The SSL setup seems to work ok, but when matching the hostname, it seems like
    NSAPI is trying to do a string-match against the numeric IP of the WebLogicHost,
    not on the hostname as configured in the WebLogicHost parameter.
    The relevant entry in the "obj.conf" file:
    <Object name="weblogic" ppath="*">
    Service fn=wl-proxy WebLogicHost=btsun2a.muc \
    WebLogicPort=7162 \
    Debug=ALL \
    SecureProxy=ON \
    TrustedCAFile=/home/qx13604/wls61/config/testdomain/TC_RootServer_PEM_Class0.pem
    RequireSSLHostMatch=true
    </Object>
    I am using WLS6.1 with NSAPI (both Solaris). The content of "wlproxy.log" is as
    follows.
    Any ideas?

    I tried some other case and configured a certificate containing
    the numeric IP as hostname. The authentication works fine then,
    but it wouldn't be nice to hard-code the IP in the certificate
    (btw. the WebLogicHost parameter is still given as DNS name, not
    as IP address).
    Has anyone got a solution for this?

    I am trying to use SSL for communication between NSAPI and WebLogic
    server (server authentication at the NSAPI).
    Therefore, a custom server certificate is installed on WLS, containing
    this
    server's hostname. The NSAPI is configured (RequireSSLHostMatch=true)
    to
    check the hostname contained in the certificate against the WebLogicHost
    parameter in the "obj.conf" file. The corresponding TrustedCAFile is
    installed
    for NSAPI.
    The SSL setup seems to work ok, but when matching the hostname, it seems
    like
    NSAPI is trying to do a string-match against the numeric IP of the WebLogicHost,
    not on the hostname as configured in the WebLogicHost parameter.
    The relevant entry in the "obj.conf" file:
    <Object name="weblogic" ppath="*">
    Service fn=wl-proxy WebLogicHost=btsun2a.muc \
    WebLogicPort=7162 \
    Debug=ALL \
    SecureProxy=ON \
    TrustedCAFile=/home/qx13604/wls61/config/testdomain/TC_RootServer_PEM_Class0.pem
    RequireSSLHostMatch=true
    </Object>
    I am using WLS6.1 with NSAPI (both Solaris). The content of "wlproxy.log"
    is as
    follows.
    Any ideas?

  • 13 in macbook pro (early to mid 2011) : after the update, computer freezes with spinning wheel every 30 seconds first with safari and now with all the applications. I don't have any programs installed and still had good enough memory on the RAM.

    After the update of my 13 in mac book pro (early to mid 2011) , it freezes every 30 seconds with the spinning wheel and now it just freezes. Ive never had this problem until I recently updated. Also, I just checked now for available update ( which there was one), the update would process till the last step and it shows it cannot be expanded? Now my computer wont even restart (just have a grey screen with a cursor). Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on with my computer?
    I also checked the memory and it showed available memory was over 1.5 GB. I dont have any programms installed and do not have backup yet ( dont really need it anyways)
    Problems: first with spinning wheel every 30 seconds and now whole computer just freezes when I restart, it only shows grey screen after the starting sound or it takes about 8 to 10 minutes to restart.
    This ALL happened right after the update with google chrome crashing. I know my apple care plan expired so I cant even go to genius bar. Do you guys know how much it would cost to get it fixed ? Or any recommendations I can do to fix this?

  • Safari and twitter with 2 accounts?

    Hello All
    Me and brother live in the same house and use the same Desktop in our computer room.We are having a problem having both of our twitter page open at the same time. For example, when I go on first to tweet, he is not able to log in to his account and tweet unless i have logged out. Is there anyway we both can stay logged in on one computer (MAC, Safari 4.0.1) without the othe one being logged out?
    Thanks

    Hi
    You can also use Tweetie - select the Free version w support ads. Much better way to use Twitter.
    Once installed, go to Tweetie preferences and enter the various Twitter accounts. Switching back and forth is easy. Help Menu provides details about using this app. Once you get the hang of it you'll find it easier than using the web page.

  • Safari and troubles with wmv files.

    I'm using Safari, Quick Time Pro. I've installed Flip4Mac. When opening a file other than wmv Quicktime launches and it works fine. However when opening a wmv file it doesn't open Quicktime or Flip4Mac it open's I-Tunes. I did reset my mime-settings but it didn't work. I-Tunes still opens.
    When using Opera it works fine. I can see that the Flip4Mac plugin is correctly installed. Opera also showed me that my standardapplication to open a wmv-file I-Tunes is. The latter is not mentioned to be. Probably I did something wrong, but I can't correct this.
    Recently I had VLC installed and I tried to install Windows Media Player for Mac.
    Should I reinstall Quick Time and I-Tunes??
    Can somebody help me Safari play wmv files correctly?
    Thanks

    It's simpler to just reinstall the OS, followed by running Software Update. Reinstalling shouldn't take too long and only replaces the system components and the basic Apple apps, leaving all settings and other files alone.

  • Project server 2013 master project and site with subprojects and subsites

    i have a master project and try to create a sub site off the master project site. when I use project pro and publish  and check "Provision the site as a subsite of another project I get an error. I have notice that the target URL changes. so unchecked
    I get http://sharepoint/pwa/project1. so when I check it the target url becomes
    http://sharepoint/masterproject/project1 where masterproject is the master. any ideas what I can do to have my sub project be a sub site of my master project. my master is a
    http://sharepoint/pwa/masterproject. so my subproject should be http://sharepoint/pwa/masterproject/project1

    So what i am getting from your question is
    1. Problem you are getting error while trying to provision a site as subsite of another project, to resolve this we need to know what is the error you are getting ?
    Also when you say URL Changes, what does that means?
    2.  For having your sub projects as part of master project, you should first publish your Master project which would create a project workspace for Master Project and then insert your sub projects within the master project(Or individually) and start
    publishing your Sub projects and select provision this site as part of Subsite and in there  select your master program name
    Now when you goto the master project site and do view all site content, it should show you both other sub project sites underneathh it

  • Macbook turns on then goes to blue screen and sits with active pointer

    First of all, I have a Inter 13" macbook pro with a 128gb ssd. It has the Snow Leppard and it is updated. Now for the problem. I was working on my computer going to unzip something and the little multicolored spinning wheel come up. It just sat and sat. Well, i finally had to turn it off by holding the power button down. When it went to restart, it came to the gray screen and enede up on a blue screen with nothing on it but the pointer. I could move it around. I have been reading and have turned on while holding command shift and p and r or something like that to reset the ram. That was one idea that i have come across. It didn't work. I have went in safe mode and deleted the most recent program that i was trying to unzip. It never got unzipped, but i deleted it anyway. Still does nothing. I got in safe mode again and went to the disk utility and verified and fixed the permissions. It didn't say any were bad, but i went ahead and run the the permissions anyway. I am running out of things to think of. This is my first mac and it has been great untill now. Thanks for any help. Josh R.

    Hello:
    This is Apple's blue screen guidance. You have done some of it, but see if it helps.
