Safari application-disappeared. & can't be found after download/install ...

This morning, Safari application was no longer in the Applications Folder on my iMac. (Nor was FireFox!) Can't find it anywhere, even using 'Search'.
So, I installed Safari from a previously downloaded .dmg/.pkg. Went through all the steps, and greeted with "Installation was successful!!!"
However, the [supposedly] newly installed Safari application is nowhere to be found.
I have been through various cycles of this, even downloading anew on MacBook and then dragging from MacBook to iMac. I have been careful to use the correct versions to match the Mac OS 10.6.2 that's on the iMac.
I'm befuddled. Can't find a similar problem on the forum ...

Absolutely.
First, instead of using a .dmg Safari from a previously downloaded .dmg/.pkg... that might be a previous version of Safari, Go here and try downloading the newest version of Safari.

Make sure and select Snow Leopard on the left. If after the installation, you still can't use Safari
after you download and install Safari....
When you have probems with applications disappearing, it's probably a good time to check the startup disk for errors.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
If the startup disk appears to be ok and there sufficient disk space, try booting in Safe Mode

I've seen a couple of threads about this message, but none dealing with my simple issue:
I get this message: "The alias can't be opened because the original item can't be found" -- AFTER TRANSFERRING THE FILE IN QUESTION VIA FLASH DRIVE.
I thought, maybe the "original item" hadn't been completely copied from the drive, so I tried opening the file again this time with the drive still plugged into the laptop--but again, the message came up and I couldn't open it.
What's the deal?
The files I'm transferring:
a 1.2GB MKV file of a movie I downloaded, which I had no trouble viewing on my desktop
a 105MB application
(btw, the application is called "VLC", which is a file playing app that works on my desktop, and I want it on my laptop so that I can play movie files like .mkv, which is the other file I'm transferring...but that doesn't make any difference, I think. No, I can't just download the movie and the app right onto the laptop...I don't have wifi right now...='[...)

I had been dragging straight from the desktop into the USB window. Eventually, I opened up finder and went to Desktop there, and when I dragged the files from there into the USB window, it worked. Now it took a while to move the files into the USB, which was a sign that they were actually being moved.

I had a similar issue. I closed the Cloud icon, and when I went to open it again, it just died.
I uninstalled Adobe Creative Cloud, went to the Adobe CC download page and requested a trial copy of PS, being sure to enter my CC name and password. It then reinstalled Adobe Creative Cloud, and all is working again (I hope).

Can't see manual after downloading several times from Apple. Somewhere else says have to get Acrobat to read. Have Adobe. Acrobat on Apple site is over $400! All I want to do is read an iphone 4 manual.

Acrobat Reader is free. Or try this:
1. Select the file.
2. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window.
3. In the Open With section select Preview from the dropdown menu.
4. Click on the Change All button.
This will assign Preview as the default application for opening PDF files. Now, if you downloaded the manual on your iPhone, then you need a PDF reader app. Try the free GoodReader app. Or you can download the manual in iBook format.

Nowhere during the installation does it give me the option to select the previous version I purchased! This is a new install on a new computer because my other computer no longer works. There is no option for me to select CS6 PS (NON EXTENDED) on the download from Adobe! When I install it only installs the extended version and tells me my serial number is valid but not for the extended. When you provided the link to the page that has the downloads, all that loads is the extended version. Can you please give me a link to the CS6 (not extended) so I can get back to work? I also was able to get the hard drive out of my computer that no longer works and put it on my new computer I'm trying to install CS6 on and the installer gave me NO OPTIONS to enter my old serial#.
This is beyond frustrating!!!! I have a computer go out on me, and have to buy a new computer, then when I try to install CS6 PS it will not install. In the meantime I'm trying to keep my small business going to stay in business. I can't call any one from adobe. All I can do is send emails to get this resolved and wait.

It's Apple's software not yours and as shown by it's exclusion on the OS X Lion pages is not part of the new OS. Upgrading to Lion is optional.
It's a trivial matter to copy it back from your Snow Leopard backup, but using it under Lion is not supported at all and WILL stop working sooner or later.
Why would it be sensible for Apple to include software in their new OS that they know will stop working?

Draft message saved has disappeared - can't be found!

This is driving me insane!!
I just wrote a LONG and really imporant message in Mail. Saved it with a title but no recipient. When I was done, I saved and closed the message.
Now the message can't be found!! It's not Mail app, search yields nothing, it's not in the /Library/Mail/... mailboxes. What happened? Is this a known issue??
I searched here but didn't find anyone with a problem similar to mine.
I desperately need to find that message. I'm praying it can be found.
Please help.

Hello. I use my Apple Mail only in a limited fashion, but have always wanted to know more about the ins and outs of mail, so I just viewed a few tutorials and Googled a few queries. This is perplexing. It seems the most recent common problem for Mail users is actually the inverse of yours - people cannot delete their drafts! How weird. Your problem struck a chord in me since years ago I drafted a very long important letter in hotmail not realising it had timed out and in a blink my text was lost forever. Getting back to Apple Mail, though, it seems to very very timid about deleting drafts, so that's a good sign. Even junk mail and stuff you have to persistently click a few times to really trash anything (it bugs me that my mail deletes do not go properly to the OS trash can though). I don't know what I'd do if I were in your shoes, but there is an idea you may want to try - use free after market OSX search apps: EasyFind and FindAnyFile. On occasion they have helped me locate VERY well hidden material that I could not locate using Spotlight (I have since then discovered secret Spotlight tricks, but still I like these aftermarket tools). It will take some time and patience to make best use of these tools but it just may do the trick. Sorry to hear about your problem - it's nerve wracking (I know).

Yesterday i just try to upgrade my archlinux,
Unfortunately something goes wrong: after reboot: grub cannot find the vmlinuz file.
Therefore, i boot using the arch installation cdrom, try a mkinitcpio after chrooted to "/"
Finally i got this error:
Fatal: Hook 'udev' can not be found.
I have a look to find a similar issue without success.
I hope that somebody can help me.

"The application cant be found" after downloading a program.

Literally just bought a MACBOOK AIR and just tried to download 2 programs, Oovoo and Dropbox. Each time they finish the download and I click on it to install them I get the message : THE APPLICATION CAN NOT BE FOUND.
This is extremely frustrating, considering its a brand new computer out of the box ...
Any solutions? Suggestions? The program's icon wont even come up on the desktop, obviously ... But it shows in the aplication folder, but when I lick on it, it wont open the program.

Personally I would boot into recovery & reinstall the OS.
If it is new I assume you have nothing to lose (not migrated data to it). The default install option will only try to replace files in place anyway. Backup if you do have an valuable data.
oovoo & Dropbox both download as .dmg files (disk images). It suggests it could be similar to another issue I saw with 10.9 where the installed Disk Utility app appeared to be corrupt. Perhaps your Disk Utility 'diskmounter' helper is damaged.
The user had sucess with a reinstall.

I'd try disabling the Twain_32.8BA plugin in
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins\Import-Export
You can disable the plugin by putting an ~ (tilde) in front of the name or moving the plugin to your desktop.
Then try photoshop cs2 and see if you still get the error message.
I suspect the error has to do with your scanner driver, since photoshop cs2 does not have an ausba4.dll
