Safari as standard web browser

After installing Firefox 2.0 on my pc, it has become impossible to make Safari my standard web browser. Even if I uninstall Firefox the only result is, that IE is set as standard browser.

Thanks. I tried both suggestions, but IE still pops up, when I click a hyperlink from my mail-program (Outlook 2002). Using Control Panel the option "Use current web browser" (which should be Safari) is persistently selected, when opening "Set Program Access and Defaults" again. Puzzling!

Is Safari The Best Web Browser?

I Have been dissapointed lately with safari, its always seem to be slow & i have cable. the pages sometimes take forever or get errors, plus alot of video dont play. i was wondering if anyone has tried and can say that there are other browsers that are better. i was thinkin along the lines of firefox or netscape...

Shiira is really fast, but it crashes from time to time.
Currently I use Camino, but after installing Beta 2 yesterday I've had some strange hangups... so I might switch back to Opera pretty soon.

Can't set Safari as default web browser

I recently installed Firefox as a back up web browser for when I have problems with Safari. Now whenever I click a link in an email it opens up Firefox even though Safari is already opened. My default web browser has set itself for Firefox and has even removed Safari as an option! I have to choose "Select" to get to my apps folder to choose Safari. But even then the email links insist on opening Firefox and when I restart my computer, Firefox is once again the seleceted browser in the Safari prefrences. How can I keep this from happening?

I believe to change the default browser all you have to do is open Safari -> Preferences -> General -> Default browser. That should change it for you.
Didn't finish reading the last post. You can try to delete the firefox preference file org.mozilla.firefox.plist or using a program like pref setter to edit the apple.safari.plist though I wouldn't recommend that unless your very familiar with the OS. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

In hotel room, wifi will not give web page to login with safari or other web browser

I reinstalled mountain lion thinking it might have something to do with college internet settings but still cannot login. Support desk for the network say that other mac pro computers are not having this problem. I can use my iPad, iPod and Windows PC without issue.

Using safari as web browser in a classic application

I have version 5 of adobe go live and I use it in classic mode in osx.4.8. In order to create my web site I need to specify safari as the web browser, can this be done?

I tend to agree with Tom that you are going to have difficulties using Safari from a "Classic" application like Adobe Go Live. Have you attempted to save your web page to disk and then attempt to open it from Safari?
I think by using such and old outdated application you are leaving yourself open to more problems then just the inability to open with Safari. As Tom says there are vastly improved applications available on OS X today that can be used to replace what you are currently using.

Question about private web browsing and Spotlight

I was browsing personal webpages on a work computer using Safari's 'Private Web Browsing', but although Safari doesn't remember the pages, Spotlight does which is a little concerning!
I have excluded webpages from Spotlight searches but that doesn't mean the pages have gone. I have tried clearing my history in Safari and Resetting it, to no avail. Can someone tell me how to delete the webpages from Spotlight?

I checked on my computer and do not have this issue. And I have no website located somewhere on my machine, after cleaning / or resetting the browser.
In the "Safari" - Menu > below the "Private Surfing" > is "Safari Reset"
Maybe you should try this...

Web browser on N810 - Javascript problems

Using the standard web browser on the N810 for BBC or Facebook the machine hangs for a long time and then a warning pop-up appears saying that a Javascript script has stopped responding. Cancelling the script allows the rest of the page to load very quickly.
This is very disappointing given that the latest OS and software is supposed to support the latest Flash and Javascript. Any solutions to this?

Thanks for the information - your reviews are very helpful and it certainly looks like tear might provide a solution in the future. The thing is I'm looking for Flash to be fully supported on the product.

I remain very dissapointed with Nokia's lack of support on this issue, I mean how can you describe something as an Internet Tablet these days without fully supporting Flash. Call me naive by all means...
It may be that I have to wait for a Google OS based device to come on the market.

Could not web-browsing via my N95

Last night, when I try to use my N95 for web-browsing via wireless network, I discovered that whatever how many times I try to click on the "world icon" from my cell, it can't show up the web-browsing mode anymore.
Eventually, I hv tried to switch off my cell, and re-start it again. But still, the problem is still here.
So does anyone have this experience before? Or the only way to fix this problem is update the firmware to V12?

What kind of VPN software are you using on your Nokia N73 phone?

- SymVPN from www.telexy.com
- or NCP VPN from www.ncp-e.com
- or Nokia Mobile VPN (mVPN) from www.nokia.com
I am successfully using SymVPN on Nokia 5800 for Web browsing, MailForExchange, connecting Intranet and making VoIP calls over VPN.
About your problem with WEB browsing over VPN connection. I saw a comment in FAQ section for SymVPN, saying that for some Nokia phones and firmware versions, users need to make some kind of refresh for web page after first usage of standard WEB browser with VPN connection, after that all should be fine. Probably this trick will work for you too.
Couple weeks ago I have tried Opera Mini over VPN and didn't notice any problem.
On Nokia 5800 I can access VPN Access Point via Destination folder where I keep my VPN connections created in SymVPN. I guess there is no Destinations on your Nokia N73 and VPN Access Point should be available for selection in the same place where regular Access Points are.

E52 web browser problem

The web browser in my E52 is unable to view video content in most web sites. It just can view videos on Youtube main site.
When I use the E63 web browser it works great for the same sites that E52 failed to view.

Yes I can see the video using skyfire which works fine even with my old E51.
So you can not see the video on the E52 built in browser like me..
It is very strange that the FP1 safari browser is capable of viewing that content where the FP2 and 5th failed!
I tried to open that page on nokia 5800 XM and it could not view the video (the same problem as E52)..
That means that the latest versions of safari (built in web browser) is having a problem viewing flash content and embedded videos.
You can view the video contents only on youtube page and maybe so few other pages.

The only way I can get my Outlook to work is if I switch to Firefox web browser. I would rather not switch to a new web browser if I don't have to.
It seems like what ever the problem is that its related the Safari web browser, because it works fine on the Firefox web browser.
I think its some kind of plug-in failure because it giving me a LOC ERROR:
LOC ERROR: Unable to locate localized string for resource ID 5007.
How can I fix this Plug-in?

Correct Web Browser - Switch to Safari

When I go to a web site (e.g., kayak.com), I get a message that states the browser I am using mgiht not work well and has links to Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. I am using the latest Safari on my Mac Pro so I don't understand why I am getting this message. The same thing happens when I go to check my mail of AOL. Any ideas?

Hello, it only happens on some. For example, if I go to www.aol.com and the log into my mail account, I get the basic version of AOL. And if I click on the Standard Version of AOL, I get a message that I am using an unsupported browser with links to the various supported browser sites. I also see a link that says I can take my changes with my existing browser if I feel lucky. Don't understand it since I am using the latest Safari.
Also, I go the www.kayak.com, I get the message, "the web browser you are unsing might not work well" with links to five sites to include Apple's Safari site.

I suspect if you're trying to open a file in 08 that's been opened in 09 the file has been updated to 09 and will not open in 08.
