Safari auto typing is annoying

I have Safari 5.0.
It seems that when I begin to type something in the search window it automatically starts to display some of the previous addresses, which I find annoying.
I looked into the preferences but don't see any options of turning this off.
Is it hopeless, or am I looking in the wrong place.
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks

HI Frank,
The url's you see when you start typing a web page address are collected from your History and Bookmarks. One way to avoid that is to turn on Private Browsing from the Safari Menu Bar, Safari/Private Browsing. In private browsing, Safari won't remember the pages you visit, your search history, or your autofill information.
As so many Safari users are complaining about this problem, please provide feedback here. Thank you!

Aside from turning this nifty feature off, iOS8 safari seems it needs to be tuned to work properly.

  • Why does my Safari Auto-Fill only work part of the time?

First of all, why isn't there a link on the Apple website to provide Feedback?  Secondly, I'd love to know why my Safari Auto-Fill only works some of the time, like when entering Sweepstakes information.  I realize some websites don't allow Auto-Fill, but on the ones that do, I can't get the second window to open up when I click "Auto-Fill".

Safari 6.1.1 and yes all web forms are checked under Preferences Auto-Fill.  I am daily entering sweepstakes for the HGTV dream home, and even though the initial bubble shows up "Auto-Fill your contact information" shows up, when I click on it, the second bubble that lets you confirm the info doesn't always open.  I tried it just now in a separate tab, and it opened; then I came back here to write some of the message.  Then I went back to try again and it won't open.  It drives me crazy.  I keep trying with each new data field and sometimes the second bubble will open further down the page.

  • Why won't  Safari auto-fill work most of the time?

Safari Auto-fill sends me a note it can't fill because the info doesn't match--but it does match. Won't even fill in address, etc. Happens about 60% of the time. Thank you!

    Hi cmate;
You might have better luck with your Safari question if you posted it over in the Safari forum.

  • Mac keeps auto typing a symbol into search engine

MMouse is flickering and MC keeps auto typing a single symbol continuously in the search engine

    OK, lets try this:
Shut down your Mac, then disconnect the power cord for about 30 seconds.
While you wait, see if the keyboard key for the character that's being typed on screen behaves any differently than other keys (click, spring back, etc). You can also just pull out the key and see if there's anything stuck or annual about that key.

  • Safari auto closing/shutdown

Hi is anyone else experiencing their safari auto closing/shutdown during use? I looks around and saw it may be a memory thing but safari is all that's running and I have the 30gb iPad gen3  with over 10gb available. Any help would be great

    HKWOY-
Your symptoms sound more serious, as if there was an internal electrical problem with your iPad.  I suggest you show it to an Apple Store Genius.  If the Genius can not fix it, you may get a replacement iPad.
If there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center.  There may be one in your city.  <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>

  • Why safari auto refresh

    imac
    lion:10.7.2
    safari:5.1.1
the safari auto refresh all the pages sometimes.how so solve the problem?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I have been away for several days.
A shareware program is one that you can try out before you buy it to see if you like it and if it will do what you need it to do. If you decide to keep using the program, then you are expected to pay for it. Most shareware have nominal prices. As I remember, PithHelmet costs US$10.00.

  • My Mac book Pro keybord is auto typing

My Mac book Pro started to auto typing right after 1 year I bought it. For example, if I press key "u", it will type "ueueueueue....." all the time, it's the same for other key.
The interesting thing is, it works good in summer or when the computer is very hot, no problem. but auto typing most of the time otherwise. I'm sure it's NOT OS issue, because the keybord auto typing even when OS not started yet, and this issue both happen in Mac OS and Win7 on my Mac.
Besides, my mouse track pad stopped working 1 years after I bought it. Battery charging not charge the battery most of the time too ( fortunately, it supply power to computer). This is the worst laptop ever. Keybord not working, mouse track not working, battery charging not working, I have to use USB wiress mouse, wiress keybord, anytime, I need power plugin. I did this for a year. Why I need such a laptop, is it a laptop!
The worst thing is, all of these thing happen just 1 year after I bought it. When I call Apple's service, they just told me my repair service expired, they can't help me a thing. This is also the worst service I ever met. I swear I won't buy Apple's product anymore.
If anybody have the same issue, and know if anyway can fix it, please let me know. Thanks!

These are really subjective comments with no actionable items.

  • Safari auto reload

Every time I move between tabs on safari on my ipad, the page auto reloads. How do I disable this feature. Extremely frustrating because of reload when out of wifi zone, I waste time reloading on slow 3G networks and it also increases my bandwidth consumption. Kindly help with very annoying feature

It's even worse than that.   When it reloads, if you were typing data in a form, such as the reply that I'm writing Right Now, Safari wipes out all your input and you get to start from scratch.   That means you can't switch between browser tabs to research whatever it is you are typing.
It wouldn't even be that hard.  Most such things are fairly simple HTML "forms",  all it would need to do is store the content of those "form" fields when you tab away.  So if it had to reload, it could repopulate your entered data from that.  Forms are very simple, just any number of pairs of {fieldname, fieldcontent}.  For instance the fieldname might be "Text" and the fieldcontent might be what you are reading right now.  Preserving the state of this form I am entering here would take less than 1 kilobyte (0.001 megabytes).

  • Need help with Safari auto fill.

    Auto fill problems.
    1. It's spotty in its application. On some pages it works fine and fills in all fields with one click. On others it says "can't complete form", but then as I begin typing each field, it gives me fill in options. Why can't it just fill them in from the start?
    2. My name and phone number fields have bad values that it tries to fill in. I keep entering the right stuff on new forms, but it never seems to "learn" them. How can I find and remove or overwrite the bad values, without deleting all the other fields it has learned properly (do not want total reset)? I think it is getting the last name first version of my name from address book where I have that option set, but I don't want that in my web fill ins.
    3. Is there a master auto fill template somewhere with field names and values I can edit? Or does it collect this for every different URL I ever fill in, and so there is no way to set values I want used in all web pages?

    HI,
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button next to *Other Forms*. Remove all.
And under the Autofill tab, make sure: *User names and passwords* and *Using info from my Address Book card* are both selected.
If you have problems logging into a site...
Quit Safari (Command + Q) Now open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left. Delete any keychains for sites you have problems logging into.
Now relaunch Safari. Login to a site with your user name and password as you normally would, then click Yes when prompted. That will create a new keychain for you.
Keychain Access stores your passwords securely.
Or does it collect this for every different URL I ever fill in,
Correct. But only if you have *user names and passwords* and *Using info from my Address Book card* selected in Safari / Preferences - Autofill.
Another suggestion when having problems using a website, is to delete the cookies. Go to Safari / Preferences / Security. Click *Show Cookies*. Delete the url's for that site then relaunch Safari.

  • Safari auto-fill problem

Hi all.. Since the second last firmware update of my Touch 2nd gen, Safari normally auto-fills website's login forms (thus settings should be okay) except for.. wlan login forms! Therefore, every time I have to manually write down username and password in order to gain network access.. I don't know whether it is a known issue or even a strange "wanted" feature..in any case, there's a way to overcome this annoying problem? Thank you in advance.

I have asked a similar question several times before, and I have the answers varied from the typical I do not have that problem to its a security feature incorporated in Safari.
I tend to think it is a new feature added ito safari n the last several months (via an update).
The bottom line is I am NO longer able to stay logged into various websites if I quit safari, even though the websites have the feature available that should allow a user to stay logged in for 2 weeks.
The only way I can now stay logged in for an extended period of time is to NEVER quit Safari.
That is not an option for me.

  • Safari Auto-fill URL Needs Work

When I begin typing a previously visited website URL into the address field, that doesn't necessarily mean that I want to return to the same page of that site which I previously visited. That means, while it's nice to have the auto-fill (or auto-complete; whatever you call it) function, I would much rather it just autofill the homepage URL of that site. Even though a drop-down menu appears with suggested URLs, many of us just type and hit enter, only to find we've landed someplace else. Many times, previously visited pages have been changed or deleted and, instead of getting the all-too familiar 'Error 404' (page does not exist), I have to enter the URL again, and then delete the part of it that the auto-complete has erroneously guessed that I wanted. Take a tip from Netscape Navigator 4.72 for Mac: auto-complete ONLY the homepage URL... nothing more. Thanks.

    Hi Mike
From other related threads, seems a number of users are waiting for something different from Apple in this area. Sending feedback to Apple via the Safari Menu>Report Bugs to Apple is one effective way of reaching Apple Software Engineers.
In the meantime, the only effective work-around is to press the space bar before typing the URL. Of course, no prompts appear, however, the long list doesn't appear either.

  • Safari auto switches between windows, makes the front window inactive...

    Hi all,
I'm having a really annoying problem with Safari...
When I'm browsing quite often the front window kind of deselects itself, say for instance I have a couple of browser windows open and the downloads window, it will automatically bring the downloads window to the front! Meaning I then have to click on the browser window to make it active so I can then continue whatever I am doing... I am not pressing any key commands for this to happen (I know cmd and ~ (tilde) does this as I use it often to switch between windows). It just does it off it's own back, it's like someone else is controlling the window...
Funnily enough, it's just happened then again! when i'm typing this message, it brought the downloads window to the front and then this one back to the front, in the space of a second or so...
Thanks in anticipation as this is one **** of an annoying problem!

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try maintenance...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
And make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you still have problems with Safari, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.
