Safari back button

Don't seem to have a back button on web pages. Any ideas?

Click "View" menu in the Safari menu bar and choose "Customize Toolbar.
Drag the "Back/Forward" button from the sheet that drops down  to the Toolbar and then click "Done".

  • Using the Safari Back button to navigate?

Why is it when I'm navigating the Support communities and I use the Safari back button it always goes to the top of the list and not to the list that I have already expanded. It gets pretty annoying to have to keep expanding the topic list to get back to were a left off.

Every "List" you see is sorted by activity - latest first. If you navigate away, then back, you are reloading the page with a new set of activity.
If you wish to use a list as a "Home Base" after using "Load More", COMMAND > Click the link (Title?) to open the thread in a new TAB. when finished, close the TAB and you will see your Home Base as you left it - likely with the thread you chose Underlined

  • Safari Back Button - Broken Again!!!

In a previous post, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9724856 I was able to restore the back button functionality by doing a complete reset on my 1G iPod after the Safari Back Button became permanently disabled. This happened shortly after upgrading to OS 3.0.
It has now happened again, and this time I know the step that caused it. I was on Wikipedia and clicked a hyperlink to another wiki page. The link generated a 502 Bad Gateway error. At this point, the Safari Back Button became permanently disabled.
I guess I have another full reset to do again.

After doing another full reset, the Back Button on Safari was activated again. BUT!!! Now after using it for a day, it's gone again!!! Arrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
Is there any way of going back to OS 2.x? This never happened over the last 1.5 years of using OS 1.x or 2.x on my 1G iPod Touch.

  • Safari "back" button gone

Anybody else have this happen? In the upper left corner of my Safari (2.0.4) page, where there used to be a "back" button (black triangle), I now have a "refresh" button (half-circle).
I can still go back a page by using CMD-[ but I want my button back!
    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Hi,
There are 2 ways to restore it.
    - Quit Safari, trash the Safari preferences file at /Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist and then restart Safari
    or
    - Right-click (or control+click if using a single button mouse) on the toobar area and choose 'Customize Toolbar...' - from the dropdown that appears you can re-add the missing buttons.
    Hope that helps.

  • Safari back button showing blank page

Since upgrade to 4.2 I have noticed a problem using google in safari.
From www.google.com, search for something and following any result link. Hit the Back button to return back to the google result page and it's always a blank page, annoying. Anyone else getting same problem?

Same thing with my 64GB WIFI/3G iPad after ios 4.2.1 update. However, with me, it is seemingly on a random basis 20-30% of the time.
Google search---> search results----> view one of the search results----> back button----> EMPTY PAGE.
However, hitting the reload icon in URL bar on the empty page brings back search results, so livable.

  • Safari back button and page jump

Hi. I'm using Safari 6.0.3 on MacBook Air.
When I click the back button the previous page is reloaded fine. However, Safari does not jump down to the place on the page I was last. This is tiresome when dealing with long lists (e.g., ebay results pages). All other browsers I use do this. Any help? Thanks!

  • Safari back button assignment for mouse

how do i assign the safari web page back button to a button on my mouse
can anyone please help me with it, it be much apprciated

Did your mouse come with its own software drivers, or does Mac OS X support mouse button assignment for your mouse? If so, you should be able to get it done in System Preferences. If not, you might need something like USB Overdrive. Alternatively, CocoaSuite and xGestures offer a novel solution in the form of mouse gestures.

  • Safari back button doesn't always work

The back button on the Safari 3 beta doesn't seem to work on all websites. Does anyone have an explanation or fix for this?

I found the fix. Disabling the MacAfee Site Advisor plug-in fixed it.

  • Safari back button goes back to Top Sites rather than search results

When I launch Safari, it begins at the Top Sites page.  I use the unified search/URL bar to search something on Google.  I click on one of the results and decide that's not the answer I wanted so I hit the back arrow in Safari to go back to the search results, but Safari doesn't do that.  It skips the search I did and goes all the way back to Top Sites.  The Google search never happened as far as Safari is concerned.  What's going on?
    Details:
    Safari 6.0.4
    Mac OS X 10.8.3

Do any search, either in the URL bar or by going to www.google.com (doesn't matter what you search for as the results are irrelevant). Once you're at the search results page, you'll see a cog wheel icon on the upper right. Looks like this:
This is the search settings button. Click it and navigate down to "Search Settings". Once at this page, look halfway down to find the "Google Instant Predictions" section. Change the option to "Never show Instant Results." Scroll all the way down and save your changes.
I'm betting with you... I think its the Focus on the User extension. Good luck.

  • Safari 'back button' has to be pressed twice for it to go back to the previous page HELP!

I've had this bug for a couple of days now and it seems to not get fixed. I've tried clearing the browser for history, cookies etc. Restart, shut down but nothing works.
Any idea on how to fix it?
    Thanks

I have this bug too since few days ago, on Yosemite GM 3, while surfing YouTube. Btw Chrome is working fine.
It happens because the YouTube is redirecting me to page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38IqQpwPe7s&spfreload=10%20Message%3A%20JSON%20Parse%20error%3A%20Unexpected%20EOF%20(url%3A%20http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D38IqQpwPe7s) instead of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38IqQpwPe7s

  • Safari 7.0.4 Back button often greyed out.

Since updating to Mavericks and getting Safari 7.0.4 with that, often my Safari back button is greyed out when clicking on a link in a page. When a link opens a new window, of course there will be no back button function for that new window until you click on to another page. That is not the problem. My back button is greyed out often when I click on a link that changes the current window to the new page without giving me a new window. Normal surfing stuff. I have had to use my History dropdown to go back to the previous page.

Delete the cache and troubleshoot Safari extensions and plug-ins...
pen a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

Since the os7 update on my iPad, my safari is not right, it only opens one page at a time, crashes when trying to open more, it has no back button. Help

Well, I rebuilt the entire workbook... that was a few months ago and so far, the problem hasn't resurfaced. It really wasn't fun to do, but whatever glitch there was in the file, I eliminated it.
I think I should mention that I am using Office v.X, NOT Office 2004. I got a new Intel iMac this week and yesterday when I opened up my files, it opened up the test drive (a JOKE of a program if you ask me) Anyway, some of the very minor issues I had with Office v.X were solved in the 2004 version. (When opening up large multi worksheet files without Excel being already opened, the tabs have white text) Anyway, I am still going to wait for the universal version to come out, but it seems that the newer versions may have fewer glitches (as is to be expected)
At any rate, best of luck to you!

  • Safari's back button dont work sometimes

Sometimes on my new macbook pro with mountain lion,  in Safari if I want to go back to the previous page the button is gray and non responding, so I have to click the red button and go back ti safari's main page, it happen sometimes not allways and is kind of annoying, can someone tell me what to do?

This seems to have fixed it for me as described below in another discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19227613#19227613
    I went to Safari.
    I opened Preferences.
    I chose "Tabs."
When offered the option "Open pages in tabs instead of windows," I changed “Automatically” to “Never” as described in the link above.
Apparently, in the latest version of Safari, if you choose a link that takes you to a new site, you don't get a new Safari window (As you know, when you open a new window, it has no "history," so you automatically know that you can't click the back button). But because this new version of Safari opens the link in the same Safari window that you already have open, you instinctively expect to be able to click "back." But in reality, you're in a window now that has no history and your old Safari window can only be accessed via the History button. (At least that's how I think it's working. I'm no computer whiz.)
On one of the sites that I went to, it still resisted letting me use the back button exactly the way I used to. However, at least the back button was black instead of gray and when I held down the back button, it gave me the option to return to one of several pages, including the one I had been using previously.
Switching Automatically to Never seems to have (almost) returned things back to what I was accustomed to. Way, way better than having to resort to the History pulldown menu every time.
    Hope this helps.
