Safari Black Screen of pdf pages

How can I open pdf files with Safari 5.1.8 and not get a black screen?

I'm searching for an answer to this as well. The PDF is actually there, so if you control-click or right-click you can download the pdf and open it in Acrobat or Preview.

  • How find Black & White of PDF page

    Hi Andi,
I need to find color used in the PDF page. I need to isolate Black & White(Monochrome) PDF page from color PDF page.
I have found two methods, but both are very complicated & has less accuracy in identifying Black & White(Monochrome) PDF page.
1)Rendering PDF page to bitmap. And looping through the color of the bitmap. The Bitmap obtained after rendering have shades of gray color due to this black & white PDF page is identified as color pdf page.
2)Looping through the PDEElement of PDF page. Getting color space. Resolving color space to get RGB color value. This method is complicated as there too many colorspace which pdf supports. Getting RGB color value from all the color space is a difficult task.
It will be gr8 help if u suggest any simple method to identify Black & White PDF page in PDF document.

If you do not want to programm anything you can just use the plugin part of the itexttoolbox. Tools->Various->IdentifyColorPages.
For java webstart installation go to
    http://itext.ugent.be/library/itext.jnlp
It uses the first approach you described.
    Best regards

  • Why a Black Screen for pdf files

I can't see the opened pdf files, just get a black screen.  Help, please.  I have no Adobe plug-ins.  I have latest Mavericks software on iMac

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Safari black screen; Firefox OK

The "black screen" posts are old, but nothing I read applies.  [My Safari works with kuler.adobe.com, as discussed on old posts]  I fixed some things that were flagged on Browser compatibility (old browsers) and did validation tests, and the page in question just passed.  I'm using Mac 10.6 (Intel) and Safari 4.0.3.  My background colors are black, but I doubt that's the cause of a totally black screen.  Safari has some "developers' tools, but nothing made any difference.
The page I'm looking at (or trying to look at) is http://www.jfigueras.com/newsite/addedpage.html
This is an html version of my template.  The links will not work because I've not uploaded the linked pages.
    All ideas welcome.  Joann

Thanks for checking and for sending me in the right direction.  Although this computer is about a month old and came with software, it apparently has the wrong Safari and needs a system update.  I won't be in a place to do the system update till next week (update time here: 15 hours).  Then I can install the updated Safari and hope the black screen is gone.  Very good news that you saw the html on your browsers.
I used your http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/, which found things not found by http://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_input
... now if I could get my links to keep the colors assigned in their classes, I would be near the end.
    Thank you,  Joann

  • Safari black screen and no letters when typing

I have just purchased my first iPhone, the 16 gig 3GS and having issues with it. I immediately updated the firmware to the 3.1.2 when I got home and never really played with it upon initial purchase so I do not have anything to determine what exactly is the issue. Here is are my problems...
Note: I did not back up the phone prior to updating the firmware.
Letters typed, whether in text messages, contact information, the search bar... do not show up. The cursor moves and the letters are "there", but on the screen it is still empty. I do get numbers in the keypad when dialing. Upon restoring the phone at one point, the letters started showing up, then after opening safari, they disappeared, which brings me to my next issue...
Safari and other internet browsers, they all seem to load a page, but the only thing you see is a black screen and a black scroll bar where the web page should load. I have tried two other browsers and met with the same result.
I have attempted to restore the phone on two separate computers multiple times. I deleted all back ups, redownloaded the update to make sure that nothing was corrupt, reinstalled itunes twice and hard reset the phone as well multiple times.
Still, there are no letters showing up and the browser screens remain black.
Is anyone else dealing with this issue? Any constructive advice or solving techniques would be very helpful. Being my first iphone, please be patient if I do not understand exactly what you are saying.

Yeah! Problem solved: It's a QT issue.
Cause: Mac Update Software downloaded a faulty QT.
Solution: Download QT from Apple's QT site.
Great to have the Video back

  • Black screen when opening Pages

My computer was off for a week. When I started it back up after vacation and went to open Pages, either a new doc or an old one, the screen goes entirely black.
Pressing escape returns all to normal. When I click 'full screen', Pages behaves as it should. It's only upon opening a document or choosing a new template that this happens.
    Numbers and Keynote behave normally.
Any ideas how to make this black screen stuff stop?

I did all those things. I repaired permissions. I finally uninstalled and reinstalled iWork and ran its updater. The same thing happens. When Pages (only) opens, the screens goes black as if in sleep. Touching any key wakes the machine and then Pages works normally.
    This is a new thing.
IWork is up to date. I ran the combo updater and I have no other software updates pending. I went into Time Machine to a point when I know for sure this didn't happen. I'm really perplexed about this.

  • Safari - Black Screen

In loading a page in Safari on the iPad, the screen went black. It was as if you had gone fullscreen with nothing to be displayed. I tried the finger motions for shrinking it down, clearing History, Cookies, and Cache, and nothing is restoring it. Rotating the screen will display an address bar, but only during the rotation animation. Once screen is positioned, it disappears again. It won't load any other sites, and I'm out of ideas.
    Anyone?
    Thanks.

Hold down the home and sleep keys until the iPad reboots. See if you still have any issue.

  • HAVE NEW 13.3 MAC AIR AND when using it to open sites in safari I have no issue until I go to a link page that is a pdf file or I am trying to save the screen info as a pdf. I only get a black screen with no data, cannot find solution in help menu

when i open sites in safari the page opens fine if it is not a pdf based page.
Once i open a site that has a link to another page that is a pdf based page the page comes up as a black screen with no info showing
If I open a site that gices me an open to save a file to a word, excel type document or a pdf , everything works fine until I try to save the information to a PDF and again the screen goes black
I have tried the safari help site but to no avail, does anyone have a solution to thid problem. (I do have the abode ofr mac program loaded)

If you delete all the Adobe Reader stuff it will probably fix this. For almost everything, the Apple pdf handling works better.

  • Why do I get a black screen when i click on a PDF in a web page?

why do I get a black screen when i click on a PDF in a web page? Firefox works as is should.

    Hi,
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that off, then relaunch Safari. Try a PDF file.
If it's not Extensions, open a Finder window. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the Library folder then the Internet Plug-Ins folder. If you see any files such as this:
    AdobePDF Browser or Viewer Plug-in
Move it to the Trash, relaunch Safari.
    Carolyn :-)

  • When i open a pdf in safari all i get is a black screen

Trying to view a pdf in a goverment web site using safari i get a black screen if i switch and us firefox as the web browser i get a white screen
i have no problems viewing the page on a P.C. machine it works fine . any suggestions?

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Black pdf pages in safari

Occasionally (but increasingly frequently) I attempt to open pdf links in safari, only to get a totally black page. Sometimes the pdf can be accessed by saving linked file to download, but not always. This didn't use to happen - is there a solution.

Well, for a long time I've been Firefox user, but I decided to give Safari a spin. (Before anyone asks, yeah, I've got the current versions of Acrobat Reader and Safari.) So, I port over my Firefox bookmarks and start to "try 'em out" in Safari. Boy, what a surprise! I follow a link to a bookmarked site that I know has pdf files. I click a file, and what do I get? A black screen! I try over websites for pdf files and it's the same thing--no pdf files will open. I launch Firefox just to make sure those pdf files do open. Yep, they open for Firefox.
I reboot Safari--no solution. I reboot the machine--no help. I then start looking for a selection in Safari's preferences where I tell Safari it's okay to open pdf files. As you all know (and I did, too), there is no such a preference.
I spend several minutes checking to see if Safari will play movies, etc. Everything seemed to work. I try pdf files again.
The next pdf file I try and I get an error message saying Safari can't find Acrobat Reader and has me navigate to Reader. Well, it will only allowed me to select Reader 8, not Reader 9, the most current reader version. I select Reader 8, and the pdf file opens.
What a struggle! Maybe I'll just stay with Firefox.

    Step 6
Do as in Step 3 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • When I click on a link from a web page opened in Safari I get a blank black screen. Why can't I see the contents of the page?

Is this any link in any page, or one particular link in a particular page?

  • How do I open pdf's in Safari 5.0.5? Just a black screen

Each time I try to open a pdf file when using Safari all I get is a BLACK SCREEN. Moving the cursor all over the screen produces nothing. This is a consistent problem with any pdf that I encounter on any site. Anyone else experience the problem or better yet found a solution???

    Go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Move the PDF Browser Plug-in to the Trash.
Quit then relaunch Safari for changes to take effect.
