Safari blaster virus?

Hi, when I opened up my safari today, I got a message that my Macbook Pro is using a large number of simultaneous Internet sessions, likely caused by a ~blaster~ type virus. I was under the impression that Mac's did not get viruses, am I wrong? It recommended I scan for viruses, but I don't know how to do that. Any suggestions on what to do?

I have the same exact problem anytime i use the internet in general (any web browser) a message pops up "is using a large number of simultaneous Internet sessions (blaster virus)". I did run bootcamp on my MacBook and I think this is where the problem initiated. My MacBook began to run slow and whenever i used the internet, so i decided to delete the Windows partition, but that didnt get rid of the problem. Then I went ahead and did a clean restore on my MacBook to see if that would fix the problem and that didnt help either, i still receive the same message. Anyone know if i really have a virus on my mac, even though the virus supposedly only runs on windows.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.

Safari anti-virus & firewall

I just switched from a cp to a mac. Do I need to install the same type of anti-virus & firewall I had on my cp??

No, Safari is the Browser [ Internet Explorer or FireFox] it does not have a built
in Firewall, Mac OS X Tiger is the operating system, does have a Built in Firewall.
Safari, the browser was packaged into the "OS" [operating system] named
Tiger 10.4, now up to version 10.4.8, which is the latest os version.
As I said the Firewall is located in the Sharing folder, found in System preferences,-> Sharing Firewall tab, click on the "Start" Button.
So, no there is No Antivirus software bundled in the os or Safari, you can use one if you feel a need to.

Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. Safari gives virus message

Hi Everyone:
When i open safari, a message pops up that tells me i may have a virus, adware, etc. It of course tells me that my data's at risk, etc. Then it gives a Toll free number to call so that i can 'Check" my own system. It won't allow me online at all, using Safari. i'm currently sing Chrome to get online. Can anyone please help me out with this?   I do have adware medic but no other virus software installed. 1. Force Quit .
    Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
    When Force Quit window appears, select Safari if not already.
    Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window.   Wait.
    Safari will quit.
2. Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.
3. Turn off wifi and turn it back on.
    Turn off Wifi. Click Wifi icon in the menu bar and select “Turn Wifi off”.
    Visit another website.
    You won’t have internet connection.
    Turn on Wifi. Click Wifi icon in the menu bar and select “Turn Wifi on”.
    Select your Network.

Safari adverts - virus?

When using safari on my iMac, I continuously get ads that pop up on either side of the page and the bottom as well as in the middle of the page. Sometimes it also opens a new page. Its becoming impossible to use safari.
Im not aware that I've downloaded anything (to get a virus). Ive got nothing in applications or downloads that shouldn't be there.
How can I sort this out? Only had it for just over a month so incredibly annoyed I have this problem. I need help!!

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.

5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.

If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:

        The test results are on the Clipboard.
        Please close this window.

The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. Safari Frozen - virus?

Hello! Safari is frozen on an ad for Norton Anti-Virua that popped up and won't allow access to clear cache or clear history. The company says they are hosting privilege dot com and gives a phone number for free help. Any ideas on how to clear this? Thank you!

1. Force Quit .
    Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
    When Force Quit window appears, select the Safari if not already.
    Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window.   Wait.
    Safari will quit.
    Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.
2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    Turn those off and try Safari.

Safari with Adblock crashing MCB Pro with Yosemite?

I have an early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina / 2.6 GHz / 8 GB memory / Yosemite 10.10.1
Having upgraded to Yosemite in early November the MCB froze and eventually crashed a few times while on Safari but on restarting everything worked fine.
3 weeks later again while browsing on Safari MCB froze, crashed and would boot up to 50% and freeze.
Running disk permissions / disk repair through disc utility nothing got fixed. The MCB would also not boot on safe mode.
I then downloaded Yosemite again through disc utilities and after a couple of times where this didn't work either finally the MCB managed to boot properly.
The only thing that I could notice to be different than before was that the Adblock extension on Safari was not there anymore.
After a few days of browsing, cookies started building up and I decided to reinstall Adblock. Since then Safari has started freezing again and the MCB crashing,
although up to now it does then boot properly.
Have now switched to using Chrome (with adblock) and up to now nothing has gone wrong.
Could this be a software problem with Safari, a virus or something else?

Adblock may be the reason.
Remove the Adblock extension or try updating it.

Remove mac osx 10.7 virus popups

I am getting major popups when i launch safari regarding virus removal and media updating. Obviously a virus. How do I get rid of? MacBook Pro Osx 10.7.5

You may need to use the gui to modify the provider order.

Check the Wireless Settings on your router...Follow the link here , On your Laptop : Please go to the control panel and open network connections,right click on wireless network connection and click on properties.
Now on this window, click on the second tab Wireless network and give a check mark on "Use windows to configure my wireless ....." and then remove all the network names from the preferred networks window. Then click on OK. ..
Click on View Available Wireless Networks and try to re-connect to your network...
Now it will give you the opportunity to put the network/wep key, make sure you enter the correct network key and confirm it...It will connect and it should not switch to some other network from now...

I ran a virus/trojan fix and this is what it said it could not repair something in the main library core or something like that. What do I do? The problem seems to be with safari?

I ran a virus/trojan fix and this is what it said it could not repair something in the main library core or something like that. What do I do? The problem seems to be with safari?

I ran the utility disk and this is what it said.
Warning permission differ Applications/Safari drwxr-xrx they are -rwxr-xr system/livrary Cores has been modified and will not be repaired.
Permission apllication differ on System/livrary/Pr or could be -rw-r--r-- they are rwxr-xr-x Application/iTune be droxr-xr-x they are rwxr-xr-x
Then I hit fix permissions and it said this
Warning SUID file Systm/Library/Core has been modified will not be repaired
I also downloaded Bitdefender Virus Scanner and it found nothing.

I am having a problem with pop pups and small windows with ads constantly opening up on my safari?? Thought that macs didn't get virus? this looks like one- any experts around? please help me fix it with your instructions? really don't know what to do...

I am having a problem with my Mac OS X 10.7.5 mac book air , there are constant pop pups and small windows with ads blinking constantly opening up on my safari in front of everything?? it is constantly interupting me and makes me mistakingly click on it then another new windows open behind the one im using..
I am not too sure if thats a virus or trojan.. I always thought that macs didn't get virus? this looks like one to me… any experts around? please help me fix it with your instructions? really don't know what to do... thanks

My internet connection works in parallels, but not in chrome in mac os10.7.2. Also, Safari won't open - it just bounces in the launch bar. Do I have a virus? I've used my laptop in 2 hotels and an airport this week.

You probably don't have a virus. Viruses are a ubiquitous PC thing but a rare mac thing.
Here are a few things to try to fix the situation:
1. Restart your mac. Fixes most problems.
2. Delete the preferences files for Chrome and Safari, then restart. Note, you will have to reenter your preferences. The preferences are found in Users/your user account/Library/Preferences. Lion hides the Library. You can get to it by holding down the option key and going to the Go menu in the Finder.
3. If that doesn't work, I'd delete Safari and Chrome and reinstall them.

My mac has a virus yes I'm 100% sure it is one i get al kinds of pop ups only in safari though please guide me on how to reset it or where to go from here in detail new to macs
