Safari blocked by Apple alert pop up. Virus?
on safari security alert popped up applealert.com major cause for concern told me to call a number. A guy answered and said he needed to get into my system to see the issue. I didn't trust it as at 10pm apple support is closed. What do I do? Do I have a virus? I managed to get rid of the notice by disabled JavaScript but I'm worried my computer has been hacked into

You were the victim of an attempted SCAM. First you should not have called that number at all, but since you did, I assume that you did not allow the individual to get in your Mac. If that is the case, you should be OK. It is not a virus that you encountered.
If you are really nervous, you can always erase the HDD, reinstall the OSX and then restore your personal data from your backup.

It's a scam. Do not call the number. There are several ways to recover.
1. Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press the key combination command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
2. Press and hold command-W. You may hear repeating alert sounds. While holding the keys, click the OK button in the popup. A different popup may appear, which you can cancel out of as usual.
3. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
4. If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. None of the windows and tabs will reopen.
After closing the malicious page, from the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize. -
I have a pop-up virus opening new tabs
I have a pop-up virus of some sort. Several days ago I kept having new tabs open up to securepaths.com. This has stopped happening but now I have new tabs opening to websites with the format sock##.pusher.com. The ## is a new number each time. for example I just had a new tab open to https://sock54.pusher.com/pusher/783/7uutj5gh/jsonp_send?i=a9kohendf
What is this and how can I stop it from opening on my mac? Please help this is very annoying.
There is a lot of information online about securepaths.com pop-ups, but nothing about sock__.pusher.com1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

My iPod won't let me on to the App Store, and whenever I go on to ITunes, an alert pops up that the certificate for the server is invalid, and that I may be connecting to a server that is only pretending to be iTunes.apple.com and my personal info may be at risk. I downloaded an emulator yesterday from coolroms.com but deleted the app this afternoon. I cleared my safari search data, my cookies and data, and web inspector, which still didn't work. I then proceeded to reset my iPod and then download the newest version of IOS 6.1.5 but yet still am having problems. Also to the App Store and iTunes, several other apps aren't working. Any help here?
Also, when I go on to safari, another alert pops up that safari cannot verify the identity of the website, anything that I type in to as common as google.com. It gives me 3 options to either cancel, look at details, and continue. I've looked at the details of the website of Google and it is legitimate the site. Any help?

thanxIt's not a virus. It's a JavaScript scam that only affects your web browser, and only temporarily.
Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize. -

Change your iTunes Store country
Sign in to the account for the iTunes Store region you'd like to use. TapSettings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
Follow the onscreen process to change your region, agree to the terms and conditions for the region if necessary, and then change your billing information.

Alert pop up when trying to install itunes OS X
when i plug my iphone 5 into itunes it comes up with, "The iPhone “Tina's iPhone” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes." then when i download the new version (OS X) and try to run the programme an alert pops up simply saying, "Alert: iTunes cannot be used on this computer". Leaving me with no other options that 'OK'. What actions can i take?
As mentioned on the iTunes Download page, iTunes 10.7 requires "OS X version 10.6.8 or later"
So, you'll need to update your Mac to at least OS X 10.6.8 from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 first, before installing the iTunes 10.7 Update.
Or just run Software Update on your Mac. -
How can I fix "Safari blocks Java plugin."
I am trying to work remotely on Endpoint Security. It keeps telling me Safari blocks Java plugin. I've tried un-installing and installing Java again, but nothing is working.

I want to block the Update plugins pop up, I have a PPC I can't update!
I want to block the Update plugins pop up. I have a G5 MAC running Power PC processors. The newer versions of Flash and Java are for Intel processors. I can not utilize those newer updates. So if I can't have Fire Fox stop popping up that annoying reminder then, I will be forced to uninstall Fire Fox and use Safari.
You can set the <b>plugins.update.url</b> pref to an empty string and set the <b>plugins.hide_infobar_for_outdated_plugin</b> pref to true on the about:config page.

HyperLink / Label / Text OnClick Alert(Pop-Up Message)
Hi everyone, I'd like to know if someone knows if it is possible to have a messageBox or alert pop-up to show when someone gets to click on a hyperlink / label in Acrobat.
I have a block of text, which I have to change its content when a choice has been made. When I'm changing its content i'm loading XML into its exData value. I am looking for a way to have a hyperlink / blue text to be able to click on it and have a alert message to be shown. I tried using the alert method of javascript in a script embeded in the exData, but no success...
All I want to do is to be able to show a messageBox when a user clicks some blue text underlined..
Anyone have an idea? There's gotta me somebody that already tried something like this..

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I've already thought that... That is a good idea, I've already used it before and work well...
But in this case my block of text may change on change event of an option.. which may change the position of my links...The text block may have 4-10 lines, so the links won't appear at the same spot all the time....
I've already thought of changing the button's position (x, y) according to the option chosen, but it is not really the best option...
If anyone has any better idea, I'll take it...

Apple ID pops up asking for password all the time
Apple ID pops up asking for password all the time which I type in, I know correclty, however a screen afterwards pops up saying 'password incorrect'. I've had to change my password continuously as whenever I try to sign in through the Apple website it too tells me my password is incorrect. I'm worried that my Apple ID is being hacked or there is some glitch or virus occuring. What should I do? Also lately there has been a similar occurence with Game Center, whereby it will pop up in a few of mu games every 2-5 minutes, I don't use Game Centre but my sister does. I disable Game centre, but after 2 or so minute it will pop up again, not sure if this is happening due to the password issue. Does anyone have any ideas of what it happening or how I could fix the issue. (this is through my Ipod touch iOS 6.1.3)
I'm not entirely sure from your description exactly what is going on. However, if you are being asked for the password for your Apple ID (be sure it's the right one) and the password that should work is being rejected, one strong possibility is that someone has hacked your Apple ID. They may do this in order to purchase apps, music, movies, etc, on your credit, which can then be used (though not updated) even after you change your password. Check your purchase history for any unusual purchases. Change your password (which may require a call to Apple if you no longer know the current password) and consider enabling two-factor authentication to protect against any future unauthorized changes to your Apple ID.
