Safari - Blocked Plug-In - System Admin Point of View!

Hi All,
What is Apple's guidelines with blocking Plug-Ins when it comes to system administration of 200+ Macs where users do not have admin rights?
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Linc,
With ARD, is it going to be a case of extracting the Flash Player's pkg file from the downloaded DMG and then sending it out through the Install option of ARD? If so, this to me seems a very long-winded way of doing things. From my Windows management days, I know there is a tool available which will, for specifically assigned software packages/executables, run them with elevated privledges without any user input. This was very useful for situations like this which required an update to be applied for users with no admin rights. Is there an equivelant for this on the mac side?
Cheers,
Dave

I get a 'blocked plug-in' message when trying to view video, such as youtube. I have updated adobe flash, and have enabled plug-ins - still doesn't work.

    Hey reslosson,
The article linked below provides more information about the blocked plug-in alert that you are seeing and will walk you through the process of changing the security settings in Safari.
Safari: "Manage Website Settings…" lets you enable the Java web plug-in website-by-website

  • Safari Blocked Plug-ins - Still!

I have tried multipal times to download the latest "adobe flash player", and nothing seems to work. Clicking on the tab downloads the latest, but it doesn't help. How do I intergrate this upgrade into Safari?
I cannot understand why this should be so difficult to do on my iMac.

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    5. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    6. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

    Hi!
First time on this forum.  I updated to Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.0 last May. (Computer came with Leopard.)  It was working fine but now videos don't play--"blocked plug-in" message appears.  YouTube says I need new version of my browser.  How do I update Safari?  Software sent to me is up-to-date. I also just installed new version of Adobe Flash Player as instructed. Thanks for your help.

    Hi again Susan1357,
I noticed that your 2008 iMac is running with only a paultry 1 GB of RAM (Random Access Memory).
I do not know what you do with your IMac and whether it seems to run slow or slower than usual.
Your year and model iMac can take a max. RAM amount of 6 GBs in total
Purchasing and installing this much RAM would really speed up your Mac running 10.6.8, considerably.
Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can ONLY be purchased from online RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (http://www.macsales.com).
OWC are the only online RAM vendor to supply the 6 GB RAM kit.
Here is a link to the kit
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/6400DDR2S6GP/
RAM is the only thing Apple lets users install and they have made it, relatively, easy for newbie and novice Mac users to install with very minimal fuss and minimal tools needed.
Here's a video that show you how easy it is to install RAM into your model iMac.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/imac_mid_2007_mem_h/
If you watch the video (it is only 5 minutes long) this is the amount of time or just a little longer, if you are being more careful, that is needed to install RAM modules iinto your iMac.
You really do not need your daughter-in-law to do this as it is a simple process once you have purchased the RAM kit online and receive it.
You can install the 4 GB module and the 2 GB module into either slot. It makes no difference.
I just thought I would point out this RAM issue for you and show you that, in this instance, you can do this yourself without waiting for someone else to do this for you. This hardware upgrade is a much easier task than doing any software upgrades/updates of your Mac's system software.

  • I'm receiving a "blocked plug-in" message in Safari

A user in my group has recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.8.4. The user has recently started receiving the following message when logging into workamajig and a few other sites:
    "Blocked plug-in"
And no access to the requested site.
I've tried updating Adobe Flash 6, turned off the the "Block all webpages from storing information on this computer" (default setting), and clearing all the cookies and history from Safari. In the past, when workamajig isn't working right, the solution is to clear the cache, but I can't find a ready way in Safari to do that, so I deleted the cookies.
I am using MacOS10.8.4 on my Mac and have been for 5 months and have access to workamjig. I've never received a message about blocked plug-in.
I'm on an iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo) and my co-worker is using a G5 Tower (QuadCore Intel Xeon).
I'm stumped at this point. There's probably something simple that I'm missing. "Reset Safari" maybe?
