Safari blocks OS-access to internet?

When I start Safari, I cannot connect to anything at the Web. No error message, just blank pages. Other browsers work fine.
It started when I joined .Mac; the connections worked fine at my work computer. However, at this (home) computer I get the message "cannot log in to the synchronizing server of .Mac", when I click the syncronize-tab at my computer. When trying iDisk, it cannot connect. The advanced_tab give a similar error message.
Also, I cannot do any Updates - a similar error message.
All these things at once - does anyone have suggestion on what this is?

Dear Jcarvaja,
I have entered the above code but it still doesn't work. I think the problem is in the firewall and not in the CSC.
Please look at the following output from the ASA syslog:

It seems that the firewall blocks any internet https access and I don't know why.
I have also checked the https access directly to the router and it works OK, so the problem is for sure within the ASA.
ASA version is 8.44-K8
CSC SSM version is 6.3.1172.0
Any ideas of how to resolve this?

  • Block XP Access to Internet while using Parallel+PC Antivirus

    Hi.
Recently bought a new MBP. I need to sadly use Win-doze architecture programmes. So I have parallel and XP. I have researched and found that a Antivirus is absolutely necessary.
    Quick question:
    1) Why cant I simply just bar all internet access to XP
    2) Will that help in not then having to install an antivirus (fear is that it will slow my computer down)
    3) How do I do it
    4) Any problems you can see with such an approach?
Intend to use all mail, photos, web browsing etc on the os x side.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Raoul

    Hi Raoul,
of course you can deny XP any access to the internet, and doing so will prevent getting anything 'evil' from the internet.
But if you get files with viruses from somewhere (colleagues, etc.) on an USB memory stick for example, these viruses can still be harmful to your Windows XP.
So, I would suggest to get an Anti-Virus-Scanner (like the free AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/ ).
Install it (like any other Windows program), and then set it up to not act as an 'On-Access-Scanner' but as an 'On-Demand-Scanner' (meaning you have to start the scanning process yourself).
That way it uses minimum resources.
You can still try the 'On-Access-Scanner' to find out, how much it will decrease the speed.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • I cannot access the internet, I tried to answer that said to go to settings, safari, tap clear history, cookies and cache, cut off, then on, but it did not work.  When I go to internet the screen is grey??? please help I am a new user!!

I cannot access the internet the screen is grey, I have tried by using the answer from someone but it does not work...I went to settings, tap safari, then clear the history, cookies, and cache, then turn off ipad.  When I did that twice, it did not work.  How long does it take for the clear history to work?  I am a brand new
user of the ipad2 and I am disappointed that this is happening already.

Have you been able to access the internet previously and now it's suddenly not working, or are you still trying to access the internet for the first time on your iPad?  Are you at home trying to connect through your home router?  If you are at home, did you put your home routers encryption code as your password?  The encryption code is what your iPad is looking for and it is usually found on the router and is typically a 13 digit combination of letters and numbers.  Let us know......

Sounds like a bogus pop up. In any case power down your Mac, your modem, your router. Then power back up in 1 minute sequence; modem, router, Mac.

  • My Macbook pro keeps quitting Safari while browsing. I have to shutdown the computer and restart to access the internet or my email. I t works for about 5 minutes then quits

My Macbook Pro cannot sustain Safari for more than 5 minutes. Once I hit return the "working" icon just keeps going round and round. The only way to access the internet or my email is to totally shut down and then restart.
Is there something I can check to see if there is a virus or is this a common problem. I just returned from a trip to the states and had no problem using my laptop there. I have had no problems until about 6 hours ago.

  • Block access to internet for a specific device?

    Hi,
I have a TV, a NAS and other devices connected to my airport (and therefore to the internet) via ethernet cable. I want the TV to have access to my NAS, but I do NOT want the TV to have access to the internet.
Can I block access to the internet for a single device (such as my TV) while allowing other devices (like my iPad, Phone, Mac etc) to access the internet?
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

I have a TV, a NAS and other devices connected to my airport (and therefore to the internet) via ethernet cable. I want the TV to have access to my NAS, but I do NOT want the TV to have access to the internet.
Can I block access to the internet for a single device (such as my TV) while allowing other devices (like my iPad, Phone, Mac etc) to access the internet?
Only if the TV was connected to the AirPort Extreme by wireless, and only if, you want the TV to not have local network access as well when it is blocked.
Unfortunately there isn't a way to just block Internet access for any device. The only option is to block any wireless device from accessing the base station all together.

You can always do without the other security features and choose to enable WPA encryption....that is the safest as of now.....
Simply set everything back to default and choose WPA PSK......type in an 8 digit WPA key then remember that....when you connect other clients to your network, they would need the same key....

I deleted safari off my computer. I can not access the Internet at all. Any idea how to wt it back?
The app is not found at all in my computer

If you’ve deleted or damaged the Safari application, you don’t have a backup, and you don’t have another web browser, proceed as follows.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window:
    open /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/.SafariArchive.tar.gz
Press return. The Archive Utility application will launch and run briefly. When it exits, enter the following line in the Terminal window the same way as above:
    sudo cp -R Downloads/.SafariArchive/Applications/Safari.app /Applications/
Select the whole line by triple-clicking it, then copy or drag it to the Terminal window. Press return. This time you’ll be prompted for your login password, which won’t be displayed when you enter it.
There should be no output from the above command. If that’s the case, launch Disk Utility, select the boot volume and run “Repair Permissions” (not “Repair Disk.”) This is one of the few times there’s a reason to do that.
Next, two more commands in Terminal:
    chmod -R -N Downloads/.SafariArchive
    rm -r !$
Those are two separate lines; press return after each one. You can then quit Terminal.
Test Safari. If it works, you’re done. If not, you did some other damage to your system and need to reinstall.

  • Suddenly my TC network only permits access to HTTPS sites- all HTTP sites say "safari can't connect to internet"

This morning my TC wireless network suddenly does not allow any devices on it connect to HTTP sites. "Safari cannot connect to the internet"
My OS X 10.9.5 Mac email works, as does GMAIL and Yahoo mail apps on smart phones on the TC network, but none of the devices behind the TC network can access regular websites.
What's interesting is that the other wireless network in the house (the one we use for guests) does work on HTTP sites. This router is plugs into the same cable modem as the TC.
I've recycled everything, and did a hard reset on the TC, but to no avail. Any ideas?

You have the TC setup wrongly .. it should be in bridge.. it sounds like you have it in double NAT.

Hi, I access the internet through a firewall that I have no control over - sadly it blocks whatever ports Ovi Suite tries to use to connect to the internet to check for updates. Would like to get the Belle update, but when I try to check for updates, it fails because the firewall here is blocking it.
There is nothing I can do about this.
Is there a way to download these updates manually?

Hi jetston, what firewall software do you have in use? It might be good to contact to firewall software vendor and ask, that they have whitelisted Nokia Suite.
If you can give vendor name here, we can also try getting Nokia Suite whitelisted.
It might be also good idea to try installing Nokia Suite to your home PC and do Nokia Belle update there to your phone.
    Cheers, Samuli

  • Cannot access the internet with Safari

Safari locked up and made me restart the computer. When I did, I could no longer access the internet with Safari. I could still get into the ITunes store, had internet contect come over my dashboard, but cannot get online. I spent two hours with customer service, emptying caches, re-installing Safari, etc. but still have no luck as of today. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi
    Welcome to  Discussions
I grew up in the Delaware Valley - Delaware County/Media.
Do you remember specifically what you were doing in Safari when it locked up, locking up your entire system. It's rare this happens in OS X.
Also, which version of OS X Tiger are you using - the latest is 10.4.9? You can determine such by going to the Apple Menu in the upper left of the screen and selecting "about this Mac". The next panel will show you your OS X version, plus other information about your system.
Regarding the inability to connect, try Safari from another User Account. In case you require it, here's how to set up another account:
Here is guidance from Apple on how to set up the account. You can ignore step 7 in the article.
Also, on the system preference>Accounts panel, click on "log-in" options. There, select "fast user switching". This allows you to go back and forth between user accounts via an icon in your Menu Bar at the top of the computer screen.
Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If Safari connects to the internet in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem.

  • My iPad is connected to my network but cannot open any page in safari or access the internet

My iPad is connected to my network and have full signal but cannot open any page in safari or connect to the internet or able to log in to iCloud. I forgot all my connections, reset my router updated to 8.1.1 and nothing

Hopefully, this will be of some help.

  • Cannot Access the internet on my Mac

I have a MacPro, running 10.5.1 (although when this problem began it was probably a newer version the OS if there was one). I moved offices about 2 months ago-- same facility, same network. After one day in the new digs, my internet and network access (wired) stopped working. That has lead down a long path including hours on the phone with Applecare, one visit from a certified mac repairman, several archive and installs, hundreds of dollars of tech time by the company network engineers, and a month and a half of lost productivity.
    *Internet Access:*
A wireless router has been installed, and my airport connection is set to the 192. schema. The Airport status window shows that I'm connected to the right network and full strength, however I still can't access the internet when I'm booted Mac OS. I've tried both Safari and Firefox. I can access the internet only when booted in Windows XP.
    *Office Network Access:*
At this point, via manual configuration in Network Preferences, I have sketchy access to the office shares in both Operating Systems through a wired connection. When I'm in Leopard though, I have no access to the internet and no access to the printers on the network. In Windows XP, I have access to everything, even though XP is using the same hardware to do it. There seems to be something in my Mac OS blocking IPs. This conclusion was reached due to the fact that the office share I can access are recognized by name, but internet and printers are recognized by IP, hence, I can't use them.
Network Diagnostics says my "internet connection appears to be working correctly" with all green lights on the left side, but whenever I try to browse the internet, it says the same thing but the "ISP," "Internet," and "Server" items under Network Status all say Failed with the red lights.
The Office Network Engineer, anyone I talk to at Applecare, and I are all baffled. I'm the only Mac in the company, and I'm a luxury as a designer here. No one else is having these problems, and I'm now a month and a half behind. Things aren't looking good.
Can anyone out there help me...please?
    *Other important details:*
-Office Server is Windows Server 2003 R2
-Every test that the Network Engineer has run on the server (Windows Server) has come up clean.
-I can't ping any IP's from my Mac Pro
-Traceroute yeilded the same results as everything above
-I can only access shares by the names assigned to them
-The network DNS could not Ping my Mac

"I have an ethernet cable in port 1 on my computer. That is configured manually to access ther office network."
Do you have a "real" IP address or a private (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x) IP address?
"The wireless router was connected to the company server only for the purpose of getting me online through Airport because I couldn't access it using an ethernet connection"
Could not access it because their network security blocked you by intent, or had some unknown technical difficulty?
Unless you are blocked by intent or ommission (if they have to explicitly allow your machine) I can think of no technical reason why your wired connection should not both get you on their network and on the internet in general. You should not need to be dual homed (though dual homing should work as well).
Please answer the questions above when you can - I think solving the wired LAN issue will be easier if you are not being intentionally blocked.
