Safari bookmarks doubled up

Hi
Ive found my bookmarks doubled up in safari initially i thought it might be MM sync but Ive switched that off and they are still doubled up. any thoughts on a fix?

I'd be surprised if turning off Mobile Me sync would delete any bookmarks.
Since you're posting in the Time Machine forum, and if you have a TM backup from before they "doubled up," all you have to do is restore the file:
<your home folder>/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
If not, you'll probably have to delete the duplicates manually.

  • My safari bookmarks disappeared. How do I find them again?

All of a sudden, all my Safari bookmarks on my iPad disappeared. I did not deliberately delete them. I thought I would be able to reinstall them via iCloud (backup)?

Quit Safari completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that didn't work - try this. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Saving MAC Safari bookmarks to iCloud

    Hi.
I already researched in the iCloud help in icloud.com and I believe you can store your Safari bookmarks on iCloud. But since I now have hundreds of bookmarks, this is critical to me. I'd just like to double check how the bookmarks are retrieved in case I loose my data or my MAC.
The Help item "Documents / Overview" says "iCloud also keeps your Safari bookmarks, Reading List, and iCloud Tabs list up to date on your iOS 6 devices and your Mac with OS X v10.8 or later."
Would you know how it works to retrieve the bookmarks if I loose my MAC data?
    1) I don't have iPhone, iPad or iPod. Will I have to buy another Apple device to retrieve the bookmarks or can I access them simply logging in to icloud.com with any computer in the world?
    2) In case I get a new MAC, the moment I log in with my Apple ID and open Safari it will automatically retrieve my bookmars, reading list...?
    regards

    Hi Antonio,
The bookmarks citation above references the automatic "push" of new bookmarks in Safari to all your devices. So, iCloud, in essence, keeps them all in sync. It does not provide a recoverable backup for them, however. Here the link to the iCloud support page which has all of the information about what iCloud will and won't do:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859
    Hope this clears it up!

  • Safari Bookmarks Disappeared

I have suddenly lost all of the Safari bookmarks on my IPad Mini. Any suggestions on how to recover them?

I seen that happen a few times. Usually the bookmarks will return if your terminate the Safari App and restart it.
To terminate Safari press the Home button to return to the App screen. Next double-click the Home button to bring up the recent Apps tray. Locate the Safari icon and touch and hold on it untill the "-" appears. Touch the "-" to terminate Safari. Touch the app screen to remove the App tray and restart Safari.

  • Sync Safari / Bookmarks and now there are gone!!  HELP!!vious settings?  Wh

i synced Safari / Bookmarks for the first time yesterday and now all my bookmark folders are gone.
Can I restore to the pre

    Hi S Crawford,
I'm afraid it's likely that they're gone for good. To double check, go to http://bookmarks.mac.com and login to see if your bookmarks have synched to there.
If they are present there, check your sync settings in the System Preferences -> .Mac area to see if you can synch them back to the computer.
If they're not present there then they're gone...
If you want to backup the bookmarks manually in future, copy this file to a safe location:
    Hard drive -> Users -> Your username -> Library -> Safari -> Bookmarks.plist

  • Syncing Safari Bookmarks iOS 7.0.3

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.3 which I have been syncing everything but Safari Bookmarks and reading list on my Mac (running Mavericks). I have not syncd those items because I use a completely different organization and number of bookmarks that the Mac...there are enough on the Mac to choke a horse.
I just got a new iPad and am trying to find a way to sync Bookmarks/Reading list between the iPhone and iPad, but not the Mac or MBP. The only idea I have come up with so far is to sync them to a different iCloud account. The problem is that it would possibly double my Calendar entries (this happened once before when I backed up to the Mac and iCloud) and would be a one time affair. I have pretty much concluded that the system simply is not designed to do what I have in mind. If anyone has an idea, I would appreciate hearing about it.
    Thanks

Some people have problems to with the music sync but anyone has the same problem but with the photos? iTunes doesn´t count the number of photos that suposse to be listed when you select your album on itunes/device/photos... I have once the problem with the music but it cames right when i resync my playlist.
    Thnks!
Test on iPhone 5 and iPad2 Mavericks iTunes 11.1.2 and iOS 7.0.3 Same problem with iPhoto 9.4.3 and 9.5.

    thanks

    Hello there anisette,
It sounds like you are trying to sync your iCloud Bookmarks, but they aren't syncing correctly between your devices, and some are duplicated as well. That's not fun, but I have an article here that should help you get this resolved. I would start with using this section of the following article to help you resolve the duplicate Bookmarks:
iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Bookmarks and Reading List
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4001
    Troubleshooting duplicate bookmarks
When you are troubleshooting or deleting duplicate bookmarks, it's especially important to make sure you have a copy of your bookmarks.
You may be able to remove duplicate bookmarks using the same tools you use to manage your bookmarks.
In Safari on a Mac, review and edit your bookmarks by selecting Bookmarks > Show (All) Bookmarks. Unless you are using a custom configuration, you will have a single Bookmarks Bar and a single Bookmarks Menu collection. If you have multiple copies of the same bookmarks collections, those collections may contain the same content. Your bookmarks could be duplicated because you have multiple copies of the Bookmarks Bar or Bookmarks Menu collections. If so, you may want to delete the extra collections.
In Internet Explorer on a Windows-based PC, you can manage bookmarks (known as Favorites in Internet Explorer), by clicking the Star icon in the upper-right section of Internet Explorer, or by pressing Alt+C.
In Firefox on a PC, click the bookmarks menu button, then select Show All Bookmarks (Ctrl+Shift+B).
In Google Chrome on a PC, click the Chrome button, then select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager (Ctrl+Shift+O).
If your bookmarks are duplicated in a way that isn't manageable through a few simple changes, or if it appears that it will take a long time to manually clean up your bookmarks, you may want to use a third-party application. There are a variety of third-party solutions for bookmarks management for Safari, including Safari Prairiefire. See the Firefox Add-Ons page or the Chrome Web Store for third-party solutions for those browsers.
Note: The default bookmarks sets for each browser will also push to all your devices. If you are using the same browser on multiple devices, you may see more than one copy of the default bookmarks set appear on all your devices.
Then use the same article to troubleshoot either your Mac, or your iPad, depending on which one is having the issue syncing.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Safari Bookmarks All Gone

I just rebooted my G4 laptop cause it was acting slow. I have lost all my bookmarks in Sarari. I have a back up at home but I am traveling. Is there some place to look that I am not finding by searching for Bookmarks?
    thanks
    chris

I think Safari's own list is now stored in this file:
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist"
Hate that! Wish it was a plain vanilla html file. If that file got messed up or lost or over-written, there is still a chance that much of what you need is here:
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari"
When you open that folder you'll see a whole bunch of files with uninformative name, eg
    84DCB8E3-5A0E-4161-9F06-5B5CAD6A0B09.webbookmark
If you double click the file it will take you to the web page. I have no idea what criteria determine what gets included in this cache.
If you open the folder, then do Command-F, use the criterion of Kind:Other and type Safari bookmark into the field many of the items will display an actual name. You can choose to view the search window in List View, which I find far more useful than the silly default of Groups.

  • How do I delete ALL Safari bookmarks?

I am currently using a MacBook Pro with OSX Lion 10.7.2 and Safari 5.1.2 and would like to know how to delete ALL Safari Bookmarks.
I have selected the various titles under Collections and selected all the bookmarks on the right and deleted these.  However, not that there is a Bookmarks section on the left just as there is a Collections section.  The bookmarks under this Bookmarks section are the one's I can't seem to delete all of without selecting each individually.  I believe these bookmarks might have been what was imported from my PC bookmarks when I converted.  However, I would like to be rid of them and there are a lot to remove.  It would be very nice if there were a less time consuming way to accomplish this task.  I've gone to find this plist file that I've seen mentioned in the support archives and I don't know if I don't understand the structure of Macs well enough but I can not find the plist to remove.
Please help!  I don't understand many acronyms and such that responses typically include so if you have a solution for me, please be very specific.
    Thanx

don't know if I don't understand the structure of Macs well enough but I can not find the plist to remove.
    Quit Safari.
Click a clear space on your Desktop. You'll see Finder top left corner of the screen.
From that menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this in exactly as you see it here:   ~/Library/Safari
That will open a Finder window for you.
Move the Bookmarks.plist file to the Desktop.
    Relaunch Safari.
That should remove all the Bookmarks from Safari.
If you want to re import those Bookmarks at some point, with Safari open, from the menu bar click File > Import Bookmarks.
BTW... when you are searching the Finder there are two libraries. One is root the other is user.
The    ~ (Tilde) character represents user:   ~/Library
    No tilde:  /Library     is root

  • How to find my Safari bookmarks and passwords without opening safari?

    Hi!
I have a big big problem!
I had a system crash-thought I could recover via TimeMachine and oops there was an error and it turned out impossible. I had a clean install but my problem is that I really needed my old data- I can get it all from Time Machine as I can browse it just like as if I actually had the old system.
I copied the folder "default" from adium into the newly installed adium and there were all my contacts login details etc...
But I have no idea where to find my Safari bookmarks. I really need them. I also have trouble recalling some of my passwords which were remembered by Safari. Please tell me which files should I replace from the old system into the new system in order to retrieve my bookmarks. Thanks in advance for any help:)

    trelek2 wrote:
    That doesn't help.
why? Have you tried it? what happens?
    Where should I look?
    I need those bookmarks...
Copy the directory /Users/username/Library/Safari from the old disk to the corresponding location on the new one. The file with bookmarks is bookmarks.html from that directory.
However, I think Safari passwords are stored in the keychain. That would be in the directory
    /Users/username/Library/Keychains

  • After upgrading to Yosemite web icons in Safari bookmark list have disappeared

After upgrading to Yosemite web icons in Safari bookmarks have disappeared. Anybody know how to reset this?

    Hi ..
The webpage icons database may be corrupted as a result of the upgrade.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Safari/WebpageIcons.db
Click Go then move the WebpageIcons.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.
It may take up to a day for your webpage icons to re populate.

  • Lost Safari Bookmarks on MacBook Pro after Sync with iPhone

I set up my iPhone to use MobileMe to sync with my two macs and other iphone (wife).
I lost all the Bookmarks on the computers within Safari.
    1. What do I need to change to avoid this in the future?
    2. Is there a place my Bookmarks have been automatically saved so I can restore? I have 'Time Capsule' and MobileMe.
If there is a way, can you explain?
    Thank you

Don't know why that happened, but Safari Bookmarks are stored in ~/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist (the ~ is shorthand for your home folder). You can use Time Machine to restore them.
