Safari bookmarks not sychronized

My Safari bookmarks are synchronized on my iMac, iPhone and iPad but not on my new MacBook Air (mid 2012). I use iCloud. Why is this happening? (Calendar and Contacts are synchronised)

I recently upgraded Mountain Lion to Mavericks. Until now it's been disappointing. I read about these so-called syncing features too late.
See How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

  • Safari bookmarks not syncing in iOS 8.0.2

Safari bookmarks stopped syncing at least since 8.0.2 (not sure if it already broke in 8.0.1).
    I have this configuration
    iPhone4,1 (4S)
    iOS 8.0.2
    OS X 10.9.5
    iTunes 11.4 (18)
I read that to sync bookmarks you need 10.8 or earlier, but that doesn’t make any sense to me, I won’t use iCloud for that.

I restored my iPhone to no avail. Any ideas?

  • Safari bookmarks not synching. help please...

    HI
I've spent ages reorganising my safari bookmarks on my macbook, however they are not uploading to icloud and therefore not synching with my ipad.
I've turned off the bookmark synching on the ipad and turned it on again, but I just get the same few bookmarks that I had before, not the ones from my macbook.
    can anyone help?
    thanks

This is a .Mac Sync issue, not an iSync issue. Try asking in the .Mac Sync forum.

  • Safari bookmarks not syncing to Mac via iCloud - Syncing works between iPhone and iPad.

My iPhone and iPad both have the Safari iCloud option set to 'ON' in my devices settings. My bookmarks sync between my iPad and iPhone correctly but bookmarks do not synce between my Mac and my two devices.
In iTunes, when I have either my iPad or iPhone connected it says: 'Your bookmarks are being synced over the air from iCloud.'
What setting am I missing to get my bookmarks to sync properly from and too my Mac?

Go to the Apple menu >> system preferences >> icloud.  Make sure you're logged in with the same apple ID as you are on the other two devices.  If you're already signed in, you can click on Account details to verify that.
Then, make sure you have safari checked off in the icloud preferences.  If you already do, uncheck them for a minute or so.  Then recheck them.
    See if that helps.

  • Pc Safari bookmarks not syncing with icloud

    HI
I installed the icloud utility on my Windows Vista PC and ticked the box to sync only the bookmarks.
However when I add bookmarks to my MacBook it doesnt update the PC version.
    My ipad and iphone updates.
    Help please

I've got an iPhone 4, MacBook running Snow Leopard, previously had MobileMe, ever since iCloud has come around
You must upgrade Lion v10.7.2 in order to enable iCloud so that's not the issue with the bookmarks since you are running Snow Leopard.
Open System Preferences > MobileMe then select the Sync tab and make sure Bookmarks is selected.
Now select the Advanced tab then click Reset Sync Data.

Safari is not working on the Mac. Internet is fine. mail, App Store etc all working and connecting to Internet fine. Done the latest software update, still not working. When selecting a web address from bookmarks or typing in search bar, partial blue bar only and coloured wheel appears.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

  • Safari will not open after deleting bookmark file

I have a new Imac with 16GB Ram and 2TB hard drive.  I have been getting messages that:
Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory.  To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using.  Closing windows and removing files from your startup disk will also help.
    open:
    activity monitor
    calendar
    firefox
    iPhoto
    Mail
    Remote Desktop Connection
    ScanSnap Manager
    Finder
when I went to the activity monitor the #1 memory user is SafariDAVClient   Real Memory 3.85 GB  Kind :  Intel  Virtual Memory 66.90 GB
#2:  Firefox:  Real memory 694.2 MB
I read where this could be a bookmark issue when my old bookmarks from my 2007 were imported into the new computer.  Upon recommendation of another user in the apple support community I did the following:
Back to a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly has you see it here:
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
    Click Go
Move the Bookmarks.plist file to the Trash.
I emptied my trash and now Safari won't open at all.  I'm unsure if this will solve my memory issue, but I would at least like to have access to the Safari program.  Any help to get Safari operational again, and then info on what to do about the memory problem.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Exported Safari Bookmarks (Safari bookmarks.html) arrive in MyDocuments but not in Firefox, how to get them into Firefox Bookmarks?

Five months ago, I imported my Firefox bookmarks into Safari. In that time, I have added many bookmarks to many of the bookmark folders in Safari. Now, I am trying to import back into Firefox all of the existing Safari bookmark folders including the added bookmarks. Tried exporting from Safari using File, Export Bookmarks, which does get them into MyDocuments\Safari bookmarks.html, but I am unable to get them into Firefox where they would enable me to uninstall Safari and free up some room on my hard drive. Maybe they are there in Firefox, but need to Find them?

Did you import the HTML file?
    * Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML : "From File"
Bookmarks that you import are usually appended at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder.<br />
If you do not see them there then try to use the search bar to see if they show up.<br />
If that also doesn't show them then it is likely that something went wrong with importing the bookmarks.<br />
Does that file display correctly if you open it via "File > Open File" in a Firefox tab?

My safari bookmarks have disappeared from all of my apple devices and I have not deleted or moved them. Any ideas on how I can recover them?

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Safari
    Quit Safari.
    Select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window should open. Restore the file named "Bookmarks.plist" in that folder from a backup that predates the unwanted changes.

    Hi,
It sounds like your bookmarks file might have become corrupt.
Before checking the bookmarks file, trash the Safari preferences file just to make sure that is not affecting things:
    /Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
If that makes no difference, try this:
1 Export your Safari bookmarks via the Safari File menu -> Export Bookmarks...
    2 Quit Safari
3 Move /Users/YourUsername/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist onto your Desktop
4 Restart Safari and use File menu -> Import Bookmarks... to import the bookmark file you saved in step 1.
If that does allow you to save sites again, you can trash the Bookmarks.plist file you moved to the Desktop in step 3.
Let us know how you get on and good luck.

  • Safari will not delete bookmarks

Safari will not add or delete bookmarks.  If a bookmark is deleted it will reappear when safari is reloaded. Same thing when adding a bookmark.

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
    Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try creating a new bookmark. If that didn't help, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset. Try a bookmark.

  • Safari bookmarks lost - Time Machine not doing his job ?!?!

I recently made a clean install of my system (10.6.6). I backed up everything before, did it again to make sure it was really backed up, and then I inserted the DVD.
Now back in OS X, I wanted to take my bookmarks from my back up. I know where they are /user/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist
The thing is that this bookmark file is like a couple of days old. There are bookmarks that should be there that aren't ! Same thing with the history.plist file : I looked at it while thinking of the last websites I went to before doing the back ups and these websites aren't there too !
What's wrong with Time Machine ? I ******* hate it when machines don't do there job correctly.
Is there a place where these missing bookmarks might be ? Or should I start using something else than Time Machine ? Where's the problem ?
    Thanks in advance.
(edit: sorry, wrong subforum : this belongs in the Mac OS X v10.6)

You might have been bitten by a fairly rare but long-known bug in Snow Leopard. See the yellow box in #D5 of [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Probably no way to tell at this late date whether that was the cause or not.

  • Safari bookmarks will not change

Every time my Safari bookmarks sync to my iDisk, they revert to a year-old version of the bookmarks. It will not retain any of my bookmark changes. I tried to change and even delete the bookmarks.xml file on my iDisk, I get a message that tells me that I do not have privileges to do anything to the file.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks.

iSync doesn't sync Bookmarks or to your iDisk. iSync is for syncing Contact & Calendars to non-Apple mobile phones only.
*MobileMe Sync* handles bookmark syncing, and the forum for that is here:
