Safari Bookmarks Searchbar - missing

Mmmmmm...... I know the Safari search bar is supposed to be between the icons and 'Favorites Bar', but it certainly isn't on my system.
I'm running Mavericks 10.9 and Safari 7.0 (9537.71).  Re another discussion thread on the same topic (25 Oct 13)... there is no visible file menu option of 'Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks'.
Any clues for how I can get the Search Bar to display?

Carolyn, please look closely at the image in my original post. Yes, I know it's supposed to be there (like the image below), but it isn't ...
Clicking on 'Favorites Bar' merely expends the list of bookmarks (as it should). Still no Search Bar.

Safari book marks missing when ipad updated to ios 8.0

    Sure, no problem.
Before the IOS 8 update, Apple's offsite file storage system for iWork was called "iCloud".  I had dozens of Numbers files stored on this system.
Under the new IOS/Yosemite regime, the offsite file storage system for iWork (and now all kinds of other files, too) is called "iCloud Drive".
When I upgraded my iPad Mini to IOS 8, I selected "Upgrade to iCloud Drive" instead of "Not Now" because I accepted the fact that I would only be able to access my iWork documents on my Mini and the iCloud web interface, but NOT my Macbook (running Mavericks).
But now it looks like my Numbers files were not migrated for some reason.  They are not available on my iPad Mini or the iCloud browser interface.
I called my wife at home to have her boot up the MacBook and try to access a few important Numbers files.  She was able to open them and save a copy of each of them to the Macbook's local hard drive.  So I guess my most urgent problem has been contained (I think I may have access to my Numbers files on my laptop), but it is still an open question why all my Pages files migrated from (the old) "iCloud" to (the new) "iCloud Drive" and my Numbers files didn't.
    Clear as mud?

  • Mavericks 10.9.5: Original Safari Bookmarks Folder Missing: Need it Back

Hi: Safari "comes with" its own stylized versions of the "Bookmarks Menu" and "Favorites Bar" folders. Long story--I accidentally deleted the Bookmarks Menu folder. Not a problem I thought; so I just created my own. However, without getting into detail, I find that I need the original-type Bookmarks Menu folder back. Do you have any idea how to get Mavericks/Safari to generate one? Thanks.

    No ideas? Really?

I restored my safari bookmark playlist from time machine. But it again missing after sometime.Again I restored the same thing happns again.plz help

Triple-click the text on the line below to the clipboard, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
    Quit Safari.
    Select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "Bookmarks.plist" selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the folder open.
Relaunch Safari. It will open with the default set of bookmarks. Delete them all. Select
    File ▹ Import Bookmarks
from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Arrange the bookmark folders as you wish.
If Safari now performs normally, you can delete the old bookmarks file. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put back the file you moved, replacing the newer one with the same name. Close the Finder window and post again.

  • Safari Bookmarks suddenly all missing, help!?

Using Safari with my ipad, with the current software. All of my bookmarks have disappeared! The only sub folder listed is favorites which is empty!
I have researched this problem and have yet to find a solution! Heres what Ive tried:
    1. Closing all applications
    2. Erasing cookies and data
    3. Erasing history
    4. Restarting device
    5. Powering device off for extended period and powering back on
    6. Turning icloud off/on (wasnt using this feature anyway)
    7. Adjusting safari options
I have read about the files changing extensions and some have had success with switching the extension back, but I dont see where I can even access these potential files if they still exist on my ipad.
    please! Your help is needed!

I wonder if this has anything to do with being on the .Mac website yesterday and syncing my data?
A very strong possibility. Have a look in your Finder: Your User Account>Library>Safari folder. Right or control key/click on Bookmarks.plist>Get Info. The "modified date" will tell you the last time the file was changed.
To which source did you synch your bookmarks? There may be a copy of the bookmark in your iDisk folder on your desktop. If so, drag that copy to the above location, replacing the existing version, then restart Safari.
Instances such as these make Time Machine or an external backup, or even duplicate copy of the Bookmarks invaluable. Do you have an external or duplicate copy anywhere? At any time, did you export your Safari bookmarks over to another browser such as Firefox?

  • Bookmarks are missing from both my list and bookmark tab and I don't know if this was caused by plugin or due to lack of space in my internal HD. Please help?

Dear Community, I promise I'll try to be as concise as possible. I'm really desperate for help! I've read absolutely everything about missing bookmarks, but as you will see my problem is also about cursors and Google showing differently on screen.
It all started this day I was running short on storage space in my internat HD. Suddenly my computer showed that I had 0 KB available, and I just deleted some big mov files and restarted the computer. After the reboot, I opened FF and noticed that my bookmarks were missing and so was my reading list - my reading list is stored with the help of ReadItLater plugin (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/read-it-later/). I tried to google solutions for my problem and realized that something was weird with the way results were displayed.
So, I made some screenshots because it's really hard to explain what's going on by writing, so please take a look:
    1. When I first open my FF, if I click on ReadItLater, I get this error message (code 0x80570016): [[click here|http://www.flickr.com/photos/81007892@N07/7423869970/]]
    2. Then if I click on any link on the page, and go back to check my ReadItLater list, I can open it without getting an error message but still NO READING LIST is shown. Image: [[click here|http://flic.kr/p/cj2gPm]]
    3. Now take a look on how Google is displaying results on FF! The text appears in Black/Green when it's really supposed to be displayed in Blue/Green/Black! The cursor is also messed up: when I try to click one of the links with the arrow, it turns into a type cursor instead of the usual hand or clicking cursor! Please see the image: [[click here|http://www.flickr.com/photos/81007892@N07/7423869468/]]
    4. Here's a screenshot of the same Google search but this time done on Safari. Compare it with the previous image: [[click here|http://www.flickr.com/photos/81007892@N07/7423869252/]]
Any help will be much appreciated. I've already tried to reinstall FF again, and I've also deleted it and reinstalled FF but I never deleted profile/personal info that is in the Library Folder. Also, have tried to back up and replace the profile folder but my computer didn't allow me. I got a message saying it was not possible to copy the places.sqlite-wal file. I have done a search about it and I can say I never had a profile duplicate. Please help? I'm desperate and I can't lose my reading list or my bookmarks!
    Thank you, Firefox community!

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • How can I import safari bookmarks from my iPad or iPhone?

I recently opened a MobileMe account and set my account to sync with my Safari on my iMac. While I was in Safari, MobileMe synced, I mistakenly allowed it to sync from MobileMe to Safari, not the other way around. So I have lost all my bookmarks. They still exist in my iPhone and iPad, but I want them to go back into my computer. I have tried syncing the devices to my iMac, but to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions? Have I missed something?

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Open System Preferences/MobileMe: Select the Sync tab. Then click the Advanced tab. Select your Mac and click: *Reset Sync Data*
If that doesn't sync your Safari bookmarks back to your iPhone or iPad, try MobileMe: Troubleshooting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch sync issues first.
You can also post in the iPhone Forum to get help there.
Do you by chance use Firefox? You could export your Bookmarks there to Safari and it would be a much simpler process ??

  • Transfer Safari bookmarks to another iphone help

    Hi all,
I am thinking about upgrading my iPhone 4 to a 5. However, as I use my current phone a lot for work when out and about, I have a lot of useful Safari bookmarks saved on it. I will need to transfer these bookmarks to a new phone. However, on my home PC I have a completely different set of internet favourites saved.  I understand (and I may well be completely incorrect!), that synching will match up the favourites on the phone on PC, but this is want I want to avoid. I just want to be able to transfer the saved bookmarks on the old phone to a new phone, without matching them up to the PC.
Is this at all possible, or is it a pipedream? Alternatively (and hopefully!), I'm missing something really obvious and simple!
    Thanks.

  • Where are iPhoto library, iTunes, Safari bookmarks, desktop icons...?

When installing Leopard, my main internal "Macintosh HD" (where all my programs are loaded) didnt show as an option, so I installed on my secondary HD. Leopard runs OK from here, BUT, I cant find my iPhoto library, iTunes, Safari bookmarks, desktop icons, and the programs in the dock no longer show. Any advice?

Sadly, this is still an issue.
I guess plan A would be to find all the settings I am now missing and point the various programs to them. Though not sure how to do either of those things.
If this is difficult, then plan B is to "boot back into ...Tiger drive" and reload Leopard in drive bay 1 as originally intended. Again, not sure how to do that - and why it didnt work the first time.
Pls let me know if you think this is the right plan, and if so, what would the steps required look like.

  • Safari bookmarks lost - Time Machine not doing his job ?!?!

I recently made a clean install of my system (10.6.6). I backed up everything before, did it again to make sure it was really backed up, and then I inserted the DVD.
Now back in OS X, I wanted to take my bookmarks from my back up. I know where they are /user/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist
The thing is that this bookmark file is like a couple of days old. There are bookmarks that should be there that aren't ! Same thing with the history.plist file : I looked at it while thinking of the last websites I went to before doing the back ups and these websites aren't there too !
What's wrong with Time Machine ? I ******* hate it when machines don't do there job correctly.
Is there a place where these missing bookmarks might be ? Or should I start using something else than Time Machine ? Where's the problem ?
    Thanks in advance.
(edit: sorry, wrong subforum : this belongs in the Mac OS X v10.6)

You might have been bitten by a fairly rare but long-known bug in Snow Leopard. See the yellow box in #D5 of [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Probably no way to tell at this late date whether that was the cause or not.

  • How do I sync Safari bookmarks onto iPad?

I may be missing something (new iPad and also new to Mobil me) but I cannot figure out how to sync my Safari bookmarks onto my iPad. This would include the Safari bar.
    Can anyone help?

  • How do you sort the safari  "Bookmarks Bar" bookmarks

how do you sort the safari  "Bookmarks Bar" bookmarks

Here is the workaround for sorting your bookmarks - you don't have to do it manually as suggested in the previous answer here. This is from a 2006 page at Hints.Macworld.com
"One thing that bugs me is that there is no option in Safari to alphabetize bookmarks. I had a crazy idea about how to accomplish this, and it seems to work. Hopefully I'm not missing something more obvious.
What I did was open the Bookmarks window (Bookmarks: Show All Bookmarks), put the links I wanted to alphabetize into a folder, and then dragged that folder into the Finder. The Finder alphabetizes the bookmarks; you can then just drag the folder back into the Bookmarks window. You probably have to set the Finder to arrange files by name before it will work. Hope this helps!
[robg adds: When you drag the folder back, you'll now have two folders, the original and the sorted one. Just delete the original, and you're set. You can also do this without first creating a Safari folder. Just select all the bookmarks to be alphabetized, drag them into a new folder in the Finder, open that folder (make sure it's set to sort by name or use column view), then drag the now-sorted bookmarks back into Safari's Bookmarks window. Again, you'll have duplicates, so just delete the originals (which will be grouped above the newly-placed list). I wonder if any of this is scriptable...]"
If you're like me and you like to keep all of your bookmarks in folders in the Bookmarks bar, then from the Bookmarks window you would open the Bookmarks Bar in a window of its own before doing the above.

  • Safari bookmarks completely screwed up messed up

With the latest Mavericks update my Safari bookmarks are completely messed up now having multiple copies of every folder, and the url's in the folders are not matching exactly (some seem to be old versions of the bookmark folders, in that sites are missing from some duplicates)
Does anyone know of an easy way to compare and edit these?  Of course they're completely out of order
    Thanks

  • Recover safari bookmarks from backup of different Mac

My iMac running Snow Leopard died. Electricuted in one of those Florida lightening storms. I will miss you.
My back up machine is a fine old MBA also running Snow Leopard.
I want to replace the Safari 5.1.7 bookmarks from the iMac onto my MBA.
I had several backups of the iMac just prior to the rath of Zeus including TM, CCC and Mozy. So I have the file(s) that have the iMac Safari bookmarks. But where are they and what do I need to copy over to the MBA. I suspect the CCC disk is the easiest place to look. Not sure what will happen if I connect this MBA to Mozy or TM. I am looking on the used market for a replacement 27 iMac that is running Snow.
iMac was nearly full 500GB hard drive
MBA is very nearly full 80GB hard drive.

Boot from the CCC backup then open Safari and go to the file menu and export the Bookmarks to the desktop. then copy the Safari Bookmarks.html file to a thumb drive followed by transfer to the desktop of the MBA. Use the Import Bookmarks choice when booted in the MBA.

  • Safari bookmarks gone after OS X update

I just did the OS X update to 10.4.5 a few days ago and just noticed all of my Safari bookmarks are now gone. Any magical way to retrieve them?
    Would appreciate any assistance.
    Dual 1.8 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Very strange your bookmark file would be missing after the Update. Did a new bookmark file replace the old one (one way of telling would be the prompt about writing over an existing file when you moved the old file over)?
You've demonstrated the importance of having an external backup. Certainly has saved me time/energy on a number of occasions. What Backup program are you using? I use SuperDuper.
