Safari Bookmarks suddenly all missing, help!?

Using Safari with my ipad, with the current software. All of my bookmarks have disappeared! The only sub folder listed is favorites which is empty!
I have researched this problem and have yet to find a solution! Heres what Ive tried:
1. Closing all applications
2. Erasing cookies and data
3. Erasing history
4. Restarting device
5. Powering device off for extended period and powering back on
6. Turning icloud off/on (wasnt using this feature anyway)
7. Adjusting safari options
I have read about the files changing extensions and some have had success with switching the extension back, but I dont see where I can even access these potential files if they still exist on my ipad.
please! Your help is needed!

I wonder if this has anything to do with being on the .Mac website yesterday and syncing my data?
A very strong possibility. Have a look in your Finder: Your User Account>Library>Safari folder. Right or control key/click on Bookmarks.plist>Get Info. The "modified date" will tell you the last time the file was changed.
To which source did you synch your bookmarks? There may be a copy of the bookmark in your iDisk folder on your desktop. If so, drag that copy to the above location, replacing the existing version, then restart Safari.
Instances such as these make Time Machine or an external backup, or even duplicate copy of the Bookmarks invaluable. Do you have an external or duplicate copy anywhere? At any time, did you export your Safari bookmarks over to another browser such as Firefox?

Safari bookmarks suddenly started deleting themselves today - I could only watch while it happened, and took just a matter of seconds. My bookmarks sync across my iPhone and iCloud, so they're gone everywhere - and I don't have my Time Machine working... Any ideas as their restoration..?

Do you happen to have another browser installed and if so, did you ever import Safari bookmarks to that browser?
If so, you can export them back to Safari then sync to iCloud.
And try restarting your Mac and iPhone both.

  • Transfer Safari bookmarks to another iphone help

    Hi all,
I am thinking about upgrading my iPhone 4 to a 5. However, as I use my current phone a lot for work when out and about, I have a lot of useful Safari bookmarks saved on it. I will need to transfer these bookmarks to a new phone. However, on my home PC I have a completely different set of internet favourites saved.  I understand (and I may well be completely incorrect!), that synching will match up the favourites on the phone on PC, but this is want I want to avoid. I just want to be able to transfer the saved bookmarks on the old phone to a new phone, without matching them up to the PC.
Is this at all possible, or is it a pipedream? Alternatively (and hopefully!), I'm missing something really obvious and simple!
    Thanks.

    iCloud will transfer bookmarks: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2573

  • Safari 4: Suddenly ALL windows disappear (until Mac is restarted)

Three times in the past week and without any other symptoms: Safari will suddenly "refuse" to display not only web pages (ie no browser window at all) but won't display Bookmarks or Activity window either. Kinda creepy: when I have several pages open and quit Safari after they disappear - the usual message "You have x windows open...." appears.
All three times: emptying caches, clearing history does nothing. Today (3rd instance), I tried resetting Safari in addition and then quit Safari and relaunched: still no windows at all.
I'm waiting for Safari to do this again and will double check on a couple of things which "accompanied" this behavior: (1) In the first instance, I tried launching Firefox and it too wouldn't show any window. (2) Today, I tried to go the the Utilities Folder so I could check Volume validation and run Permissions Repair: the Utilities folder (window!) wouldn't open either! So I restarted the Mac Pro and everything returned to normal.
Looks like it's a Finder problem which "just happens to affect Safari" - but that's the first and main symptom so far. I'm having no other problems at all.
Anyone have an idea of what's going on and how to fix it?

    Thanks, Carolyn.
I'll try trashing the prefs file and logging into another account. I know about these things but thought I'd check around first to see if anyone's seen this "behavior" first.
Between the time of my post and yours: I used GraphicConverter to "open a jpeg" and got another "non-window." So the behavior is more on the Finder side than on the Safari side. GC seemed to recover on it's own (it never locked up or crashed), the next jpeg opened in a normal window. (And no, the first jpeg wasn't a corrupt file - checked that too.)
What I'm seeing is troubling only because it started suddenly on a well-maintained Mac and shows no other symptoms. Console shows what I have believed to be normal actiivity like this:

Other than the Safari debugger call, I can't see anything significant there. Should add that I just updated Safari from .03 to .04 today: two of four incidents occurred before the update.
The invalid mail server port is not connected - and Mail.app is not giving any trouble so I'm ignoring that for now.
I am backed up already: Internal RAID plus 1 TB external plus: I have two boot drives with duplicate files in the Mac Pro. (Not counting the old eMac on my home network.)
I'll report back - probably after all this Christmas Joy is over.

  • Troubleshooting-iPhone contact and safari bookmarks syncing on mac - help!

I did the update this morning. Everything is working fine but the syncing of my contacts [address book] and the safari bookmarks. they do not change at all when i try doing a syncing. I have more bookmarks in my safari mac than on the iPhone safari. the same happens with my contacts - if I update the information directly on my computer and try syncing it to the iPhone it does not update the info. Can anyone help? thanks.

    mfoto,
Sync History is what keeps track of what has been synced and what has been changed.
As a first step you might want to try reseting sync history as mentioned in this article:

  • Safari bookmarks are all over the place on my iPhone 4

My Safari bookmarks are in folders on my MacBook, but are all over the place on my iPhone 4. Some are in folders, some out; some missing, some duplicated, some pages that aren't bookmarked but are visited. How do I get the iPhone to look like the laptop?
I deleted the bookmarks on the iPhone but they went right back when the phone synced with iTunes.

I suggest you update to iOS 6.1.3 and try again.

  • 4.2 now Safari bookmarks are all messed up

bookmark bar is all messed up many of my bookmarks are gone and I can't add any to the bar now. it has also done the same on my iPad

So, do you think Apple is gonna get a fix out for this? Just curious, as they were the ones who were so big on the whole idea of Stacks in the first place.

  • TS4001 How can I share Safari bookmarks between two iCloud accounts using IOS 7 and Mavericks?

Before iOS 7 and Mavericks, we were able to share Safari bookmarks between all of our devices.  My wife had the primary iCloud account which was setup to share bookmarks, contacts, calendars and reminders.  A secondary iCloud account was setup on my phone for only my email.  Each phone had our private email accounts segregated and we shared all the bookmarks, contacts, calendars and reminders.  When I saved a bookmark on my phone, I could see it later on our iMac or iPad.  Now only my wife can sync bookmarks between her phone and the iMac or iPad.  This *****!!  This worked beautifully before we upgraded to the latest versions of OS & iOS.  Is there a work around or a new way to set things up?  I don't want to be stuck reading Safari on my phone when I have a 24" iMac sitting in the living room.  I don't want to see all of my wife's email on my phone either.  Do we need three iCloud accounts now?  One main for sharing and two separate accounts for only email?  Need help!  Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

    David,
Thanks for the reply.  That's how I set it up originally.  Although the new iOS 7 update lost some functionality.  I found the following on the TUAW website.  The Safari Bookmarks and Find My Phone options have been removed from the secondary iCloud accounts options.  This is the problem.  Everything worked great before we updated.  I guess "new way" consolidates the iCloud accounts better with Maverick?  Now I will have extra documents on my phone that I don't need.  We will both have to share the same iCloud storage and backup space too.  Have to try it out and see how it works. Thanks.

  • Hi apple user. I have lost all iPad safari bookmarks. Tried hold home button with sleep button but it doesn't get back my safari bookmarks. I also have reset without erasing my iPad data but still doesn't work. Help me get back my safari iPad bookmarks.

Hi, I have lost all iPad safari bookmarks. Have tried reset without erasing data and hold home and sleep button together but when go to safari all safari bookmarks still lost. Please help me get back my iPad safari bookmarks. I have contact Apple but could not set chat session. I have my Apple ID registered same with iCloud, also same during the time I have all iPad safari bookmarks lost. My iPad never synced on computer since I bought it with set at local store. Please help me get my iPad safari bookmarks back, thanks.

Hi, I quitted Safari and press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously unti the Ipad turn off and on with the logo Apple appears but it has hanged on and fixed to the point. I do it again hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously and the Ipad turn off and on again with the Apple logo but it still is hanged on the same point. I have do it a few more time, it still hanged to the same point for few hours with no change (like picture):
I think my Ipad is fault now. I guess I must connect it to the computer with itune, or something. So my case is this: at the moment everytime I hold the Home and Sleep buttons the Ipad always off and reappear with the Apple logo and be hanged on (like the pic), and I need restoring my Ipad Safari bookmarks... so I guess I need using Itune or something to get back the Ipad then using Icloud or blah. Please guide me for the step, Im not sure if connect to PC, if any that my Ipad data would lost, or is there anyway that I also can get back Ipad Safari Bookmarks after connecting to PC, also the how using Icloud. There is no Apple store or service store in my country so I think I must do it my self. Feel free to share your guide, thanks.

What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

    Hi Mary,
    I don't remember those arrows in 10.6, only 10.7 & up!?
I have 10.6.8, as you do. To make your Safari full screen, make sure you have the left hand side of your safari page moved  all the way to the left.  Then move your cursor to the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the safari page, and simply drag your page towards the lower right hand corner of the screen. NOTE: you will see a series of lines on the bottom right corner of the page, indicating where to place you cursor arrow.

I restored my safari bookmark playlist from time machine. But it again missing after sometime.Again I restored the same thing happns again.plz help

Triple-click the text on the line below to the clipboard, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
    Quit Safari.
    Select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "Bookmarks.plist" selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the folder open.
Relaunch Safari. It will open with the default set of bookmarks. Delete them all. Select
    File ▹ Import Bookmarks
from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Arrange the bookmark folders as you wish.
If Safari now performs normally, you can delete the old bookmarks file. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put back the file you moved, replacing the newer one with the same name. Close the Finder window and post again.

  • HELP...Sync to PC iTunes Lost all Safari Bookmarks

I just sync my iPad with iTunes 10.0.1.22 using my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop which is running Microsoft Vista and somehow lost all my safari bookmarks on my iPad. What I think cause the problem was I checked to sync my Internet Explorer bookmarks which somehow completely erased my bookmarks on the iPad.
How can I recover these bookmarks which were over 500!!!. I sync to my PC on a daily basis and just backed up my entire laptop so if I can find the file which contains the safari bookmarks, hopefully I can just replace that file on my PC and be back in business. Any hints or suggestions would be really appreciated....

    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari\Bookmarks.plist
Launch Safari on your PC. Drag the Bookmarks.plist file into your Safari browser window.
If that doesn't work, post in the Safari for Windows forum and ask how to import that Bookmarks.plist file back into Safari. http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1188
