Safari Bookmarks sync issues

I have looked around the forum and may have missed it, or may be in wrong forum for this, either way if so, sorry. I am unable to locate what i would think is a easy "to do" between a laptop and mac
I want to sync my gf's bookmarks/music/mail on her laptop with her profile on my desktop. How do i do so? The only problem that i may see is that we are running different operating systems on her laptop to my destop. I have newest snow lepord, she is a whole OS behind.
Any help is great, thank you

How do you sync iPhone safari bookmarks to MobileMe, so that my Mac can also have the same bookmarks?
I've only been able transfer from my Mac to my iPhone 4 through MobileMe, is there any other way other than the iTunes bookmark sync, by cable?
I'm on my iPhone almost all the time. It would be great to have the bookmarks ready for me on my Mac through a MobileMe sync.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi and welcome...
On your Mac open System Preferences / MobileMe then select the Sync tab. Make sure Bookmarks is selected.
Now open Safari on your Mac. From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Bookmarks tab. Make sure: *Synchronize bookmarks using MobileMe* is selected.
That should automatically sync your Bookmarks either via WI FI or when you connect your iPhone to your Mac.

  • SEVERE Problem With Safari Bookmarks Sync

Just thought I'd bring this one to people's attention (as well as submitting a bug report to Apple).
I have my bookmarks synced across all devices (MacBook, iMac, iPhone) and recently I decided to tidy them up a bit. On the MacBook I started moving bookmark folders into a newly created folder called "Archive" (wanted to just put some stuff I don't use often into a folder to reduce the number of top-level folders in the Bookmark list). I did this once successfully but the second time I tried to do it Safari threw an error, something like "You cannot do this right now because Bookmarks are being synced."
    OK, I thought, I'll wait.
Then the folder that I'd just moved hundreds of bookmarks into disappeared!
No undo. No CMD+Z. Nothing would get it back.
Then the full horror dawned on me - Safari was now busy syncing this across all my devices. I checked my iMac and iPhone and yes, that folder full of bookmarks had been wiped off every device. Forever.
    What I found ubelievable was:
    1) Safari does not keep a 'previous version' of the Bookmarks.plist file in the same way that, say, iTunes does with it's database.
    2) iCloud does not actually 'back up' your Bookmarks. Whenever you edit them on any of your synced devices you are creating/destroying bookmarks on the only single copy of those bookmarks that exists
So, thanks to that nice little bug (and poor implementation of bookmarks management in Safari), I've just lost hundreds of bookmarks that I can never ever recover.

I use Dropbox for everything. This wouldn't help though in this case as unless I'd have manually copied my bookmarks to a folder in Dropbox there is no automatic way of making use of Dropbox's features with Safari (as far as I can see and without jumping through hoops)
I'm not so much griping about whether or not iCloud backs up your data but more warning that there is a severe bug in iCloud sync whereby somehow it managed to destroy a folder full of bookmarks (which it shouldn't have done) and then propagated that through all my synced devices (which, technically, it should have done). At that point your are screwed because there's no fail-safe mechanisms in place as there is with iTunes (which makes a historic copy of your database each time you perform an operation that alters it).
Or alternatively, given that all of Sarafi bookmarks are just nodes in a single XML file, why not make it so that you can revert to previous versions as you can in, say, TextEdit.
I have submitted a bug to Apple by the way, I only posted here as a warning to others to be very, VERY careful when messing about with your bookmarks if they're synced to other devices.

  • ICloud: Safari Bookmark Sync

For my Safari browser I am replacing Xmarks with iCloud for my syncing. I use Safari on three separate computers and an iPhone. I would like my initial iCloud sync be based on my main computer for the first sync. Hoping it will carry the folder structure over to the browsers on the other devices. After that initial sync, I will like to just have everything Sync like normal. Is there a way to do this or indicate it somehow? I know Xmarks allowed for this and in fact gave you choices how you wanted the sync to be handled.
Anyone have a solution, advice or recommendation on how to do this? It's greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • Safari bookmark sync (continuity) does not work anymore

I noticed that my Safari stopped syncing between devices.
I have Safari enabled in iCloud settings on all my devices (two Macs with OS X 10.10.2; one iPad Air 2, and one iPhone6, both with iOS 8.2).
I also tried the usual disable-enable-merge cycle, with more than 1 minute wait-time in between for the syncing to fully complete.
In the end, each device still has its own version of the bookmarks and reading list.
It used to work when running OS X 10.0 and iOS 8.1.
I don't know when this has changed.
    Please help here.

    Howdy kakyoism,
It sounds like you are trying to use iCloud  to sync your Safari Bookmarks and Reading lists across your iOS and Mac OS devices. I would like to recommend that you use the troubleshooting in the following article if you have verified that the same Apple ID is signed in on each device:

  • How do safari bookmarks sync with lion

My iPhone and MacBookPro Lion sync my Safari bookmarks perfectly.  I just don't know how it does it?  Cannot find anything online that discusses it.  I know iCloud doe smy contacts, calenar, etc but doe snot appear to do Safara bookmarks.

First question, you would have to re-publish to get the link in a nice "share" button.
But I think it would be easier to go to your gallery (on the web not iphoto) click on the video/album you want to share and at the top near the center click on "tell a friend"
I hope this answers the first question.
Second question: you decide privacy when you publish.

  • Safari bookmarks sync out of step

    Hello all,
Recently upgraded to Mountain Lion, set up on iCloud etc and all is well bar one problem - my Safari bookmarks on my desktop (MacBook Pro), keep getting removed. My guess is that the bookmark list on my iPhone is being taken as the most up to date and so anythign that's been marked on my mac but doesn't appear on the iphone gets removed, iCloud sync wrongly thinking that I must have deleted it usign the iphone.
When I first set up, I kept getting a very old list of non-synced bookmarks as appeared on my iphone and were synced a while back manually. I managed to get that sorted by deleting them all off the iphone and re-importing a back-up onto the desktop, but now I've realised that any new bookmarks I add from desktop get removed within a couple of hours, presumably because they aren't on the iphone.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

First post here; trying to be helpful, but maybe my post belongs elsewhere?
Have been trying to determine exactly what the seemingly outdated links arise from. So I completely removed any iCloud synching from my Mac (Air 10.8.3), reset my iPhone and iPad (i.e., disconnecting safari (S) from icloud and saying to NOT save my bookmarks (BM) on the IOS device). As you'd expect, all bookmarks have been removed from my IOS devices. So I was solely working with the Air. I then started experimenting with adding additionl links to my BM bar. If I say to add a new bm, it goes onto the front of the list. I rarely want that so I immediately click on the BM icon and place the new BM in the order I want to see it. I then unclick the bm icon, Safari takes me back to the new bm (a reload), and I continue on. Sometime later, the new bm, sometimes along with other BMs I've added, gets back onto the front. Frustrating. Especially since, back when I had icloud synching turned on, what would go onto the IOS devices was the list with the new bm(s) in the front.
So I tried a different tack, Now, once I had reordered my BMs into the order I like, I exit S, then start up S again. Every time, the ordering stays in place. So I wonder if there's a cache S (or the Mac OS, or the 'stuff' intended for IOS or maybe icloud synching) uses, e.g., a 'shadow list'. And it's that list that doesn't get updated when editing the BMs upon exiting from the edit.
I know this is (perhaps) a long post, but what I've been doing consistently works. Perhaps it's also the case that whatever cache exists is rebuilt during S startup. In my initial testing, I turned on icloud synching after I'd setup my BMs the way I wanted (also exiting S and restarting - the restart doesn't matter BTW). The correctly ordered list showed up on my IOS devices. At this stage of testing, I've then immediately turned off S icloud synching. If my 'theory' is correct about there being some sort of cache and it's not updated until S exit (or rebuilt during S startup wold be my 'better' guess). more testing will show that up.
The 'fix' is my theory is true? Add the calls to update the cache upon S BM editing as well. At least that's the fix from my point of view. But then again, what do I know?

  • Troubleshooting-iPhone contact and safari bookmarks syncing on mac - help!

I did the update this morning. Everything is working fine but the syncing of my contacts [address book] and the safari bookmarks. they do not change at all when i try doing a syncing. I have more bookmarks in my safari mac than on the iPhone safari. the same happens with my contacts - if I update the information directly on my computer and try syncing it to the iPhone it does not update the info. Can anyone help? thanks.

    mfoto,
Sync History is what keeps track of what has been synced and what has been changed.
As a first step you might want to try reseting sync history as mentioned in this article:

  • Bookmarks syncing issue - 'over-the-air from MobileMe'

    Hi,
Just bought a new iMac running Mountain Lion so I've now got iCloud capability back. My Safari bookmarks on my iPhone 4 are a mess and I can't delete them or get them to sync properly with the iMac Safari bookmarks.
When I connect my iPhone and look in iTunes>Devices>Info>Other, it says that 'bookmarks are being synced with your iPhone over the air  from MobileMe. Over-the-air sync settings can be changed from your iPhone'. There's no option to change this default and I can't find anything on the iPhone that lets me change over-the-air sync settings. I used to have a MobileMe account but thought that was all dead and buried now.
What do I need to do to make sure the bookmarks are synced from the iMac and the current ones on the iPhone are deleted?
    Thanks,
    Pete
iMac running OSX 10.8.2; Safari 6.02; iPhone running iOS 6.1

Before doing a whole restore, try adding the account again without the on air syncing turned on, then sync. It may not authenticate if you have cancelled the account but if you continue to tap "Save" it will accept it with a message stating that it may not be able to connect to the server.
After, then sync so that iTunes gets the updated settings.
Nice, thanks, that did the trick.
I had to tap "save" twice (first time, then the alert pops up, dismiss the alert and hit "save" again) and accept to add the account although it could not authenticate. Then I synced and afterwards deleted the account again *on the iPhone*. Syncing again and iTunes now lets me sync contacts and calendars again.
    Thank you!

  • Bookmark sync issues

This is the only issue I've had since the iCloud move - Mobile Me never had this issue.
Basically, the bookmarks never sync right between my two macs and my iPhone. Today I even deleted all my bookmarks and turned off syncing on my iPhone and then reenabled it. Nothing is syncing. I tried that twice. Between the two macs, every once in a great while, ONE or so of the bookmarks I make on one will meander over to the other, but it's a crap shoot. No problem with calendars (thank goodness) or anything else - just this minor, yet irritating issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Steven...
Try "resetting" both Macs and the iPhone.
On the Macs open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the box next to Bookmarks then reselect it then restart the Macs.
On the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud. Switch Bookmarks off then back on then reset the iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
FYI... don't delete your Bookmarks. That may make things worse.

  • Why can't my Safari bookmarks sync properly?

Every day for about a week or so now I get an error whenever I launch Safari. It keeps telling me that I need to replace my bookmarks on MobileMe and to "fix now" or upload them from another computer. I don't have them on another computer, they're on my iPhone. But just to get it to STFU I did in fact "correct" the problem by replacing them from my computer several times. I've also turned off syncing on my iPhone and sync'd it with iTunes, replaced them from my computer to MobileMe and turned it back on the iPhone and replaced them from MobileMe again.
It doesn't seem to matter what I do, or how many times I replace the bookmarks, it just keeps asking me every time I launch Safari. Now I don't want to bookmark anything on my computer because I have new bookmarks on my iPhone and I can't get them to sync back.
What in the heck is going on?
p.s. I'm very Mac saavy and have tried everything I know to do like clearing caches, repairing permissions, bla bla bla. No help at all.

  • Safari Bookmark non-Sync Fixed with 10.9.2?

I have multiple iOS devices, and three desktop OS computers.  About 6 months ago bookmark syncing between all of the devices became non-functional. Tried all the fixes suggested in the forum to no avail.  Finally gave up on it and over time each device had their own unique set of bookmarks.  Safari iCloud sync remained enabled on all the devices, but it appeared the changes were just ignored.
I incorportated 10.9.2 along with the companion iOS change a couple of days ago, and to my surprise Safari bookmark sync with iCloud was working again immediately.  The resultant merged bookmark was initially pretty messy, but at least it was identical on all the devices now.  I subsequently corrected one set of the bookmarks, and these changes were properly imported into the remaining set of devices.
Keeping my fingers crossed this was a real fix, and not a fluke.

  • Safari bookmarks will not change

Every time my Safari bookmarks sync to my iDisk, they revert to a year-old version of the bookmarks. It will not retain any of my bookmark changes. I tried to change and even delete the bookmarks.xml file on my iDisk, I get a message that tells me that I do not have privileges to do anything to the file.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks.

iSync doesn't sync Bookmarks or to your iDisk. iSync is for syncing Contact & Calendars to non-Apple mobile phones only.
*MobileMe Sync* handles bookmark syncing, and the forum for that is here:

  • SAFARI - Bookmarks Bar & Bookmarks Menu

I don't rember if both of these folders existed on my virgin phone or if they came down with the sync but how do yuo delete a Bookmark bar which doesn't exist on iphone safari?
Also how do you create folders on the iPhone?

Just been pondering this myself. I've decided not to sync my bookmarks (having checked the box to allow Safari Bookmark syncing when I first bought the iPhone). I'm creating a new folder structure for bookmarks on my iPhone. However, I'd really love to get rid of the Bookmarks Bar and Bookmarks Menu folders. Clicking on Edit brings up the round delete icon next to all the other folders apart from these two and the History folder! Actually I wouldn't mind deleting the History folder as well, as I never use it. I thought perhaps I'd be allowed to delete these folders once I unchecked the Safari Bookmarks syncing in iTunes, but I still can't get the option to delete them. Anyone know if it's possible? Or is it a feature?
