Safari can't open any website

Safari can't open any website and it shows a message about not connecting to the server. What should i do to fix it?

I could - rarely - find where a 3rd party product update may have some adverse side effect, but rare.
Maybe Safari 5.1 for Windows added and closed security but wasn't tested enough to see what effects it would have.
Consider, seems every day the same question is posed and asked.
There is a command to flush Windows DNS I saw....
I just tried to go to one thread and it vanished "Looking for something" and blank page now.

• Can't open any website

I can't open any website using Firefox. I tried for 4 hours this morning, just blank, or "loading" (but nothing actually loaded). Finally got google partially open but not completely. Shut down my computer about 50 times, had my internet provider check my DSL connection (working "really fast" they said), 12 hours later, still can't open a damned thing. Upgraded to 3.6.13, still nothing. Finally got Safari open (which i've never used successfully on my emac), and it's super fast. I give up on Firefox.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* Microsoft Safety Scanner
* MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
* TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

• I have stopped too many scripts in Firefox and I can't open any websites in Firefox anymore. I just get blank pages. What do I do now?

3 websites gave me this message:- "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete." I chose to stop the script each time. However I have stopped too many scripts in Firefox and I can't open any website in Firefox anymore. I just get blank pages. What do I do now?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
#Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

I have experienced the same problems Brand new iMac for Christmas came with Tiger installed did and update to Leopard that came with the computer. Can't connect to certain websites and some won't load the associated graphics, i.e. apple.com, yahoo.com, and gmail. Called Apple support they suggest resetting safari, worked for a couple of hours. Called back and they suggested power off iMac disconnect the cat5 from the computer, power down the router, power down the dsl modem, wait 3 minutes. Then restart the modem, router and then connect the cat. They explained that this would help the iMac correct the problem of connecting to the DNS server. This solution was also short lived, a few hours. I also have experienced problems associated with servers in Mail and iTunes. total time on phone with support including wait time 3 hours. This is getting old. Any ideas on workarounds I am happy to try. I will download firefox and give that a try. I have two other laptops one windows, and the other a MacBook and have not problems connecting to the internet.

• Safari can't open Google website

For the last couple of days, my default search engine (www.google.com) was not searching, and giving me following error:
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “www.google.com”.
I went through pages in support about problems with third-party plugins. I've tried un-checking "Enable plug-ins"; Resetting Safari; Emptying Cache; Re-starting Safari and computer, nothing has worked. Other search engines are working e.g. bing, yahoo. I can't open any of google websites from .com or .co.uk or gmail. I've just tried using Firefox and it also can't open google websites.
I'm using Safari 5.0.3 (5533.19.4) on a Mac OS X 10.5.8.
I had Glims installed on my machine, which I just un-installed it; re-started; re-set safari, but still can't open google website.
As far other websites are concern, so far all the websites which are in frequent use can open. Is there problem with Google, Safari/Firefox (browser) or my mac (virus or something)?
Thanks a lot everyone.
PS: Oh yes. I got update on Safari yesterday, is that causing any issues?

I had the same problem too.
I searched by using bing.com (fortunately MS search engin has helped me )
I found a archived post https://discussions.apple.com/message/11061084#11061084
I did what Carolyn said and I also checked the PeerGuardian app
but I don't think it's because of this app that my connection wasn't possible, because I rarely use it.
Et voilà, everything works now.
I'd like to thank Carolyn and Rave for allowing me to do not format my dear iBook G4 that I haven't formated for over 3 years!!! (I've done the whole backup of my iBook)

• Safari unable to open ANY websites

New imac all set up. ethernet connection made. email received. BUT when i try to use SAFARI i get a message that says "Safari can't open the page "http...blabla" because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection..." this is strange since i am receiving email AND was apple to reach applesupport.com... I then did a diagnostic check and it says that ethernet connection is fine. hmm.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
thanx dearly, la paloma

i posted with what seemed like Safari problem but it ended up only being my problem. New imac was all set up, had ethernet connection BUT no Safari. i REALLY spent a long time calling myself an idiot ad then tried a simple trick - turning the modem off and then on. it worked.
brain cell loss obviously not as dramatic as first thought.

• Safari can't open a website because of Mac OS X

Safari can’t open the specified address.
Safari can’t open “mms://mirrors.martin.bitstop.ph/dwiz” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “mms:”.

To read mms feeds you need Windows Media Player or
some other apps:

This only works in QuickTime if you purchased the Pro version. The free reader doesn't include the Save As function.

Hi there andytan83,
You may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

• Safari can't open any page. Nor can Software update.

Hi,
trying to connect but get the following message, "Safari can’t open the page “http:” because it could not connect to the server “”
I am able to connect with mail and firefox.
Can't connect with software update.
Does anybody know why?
Thank you.

DNS server codes may help.
Go to the Apple Menu>System Preferences>Network panel
-Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the location drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
-Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Only Ethernet or Airport ought to be checked (whichever one you use). Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply". Everything else ought to be unchecked unless you use a Bluetooth device.
-Back to the "Show" menu, select either "Ethernet" or "Airport" (whichever applies to you). Click on the TCP panel. There, if you live outside the US enter 208.67.222.220 and 208.67.220.222 (separate lines) in the DNS servers box - these are Opensource DNS codes. and select "apply". If you live in the US use Verizon's 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 public codes instead of the OpenDNS codes.

• Safari won't open any website

Network diagnostics say that WiFi is good, network settings are good, ISP is good, etc.  And other devices on my network are connecting to the web without issues.  But my macbook air will not connect to any website.

I get a message that Safari cannot access the webpage because the server is not responding.  However, all my other devices are connecting with no problem.  I just got off the phone with Apple Support and after doing some trouble-shooting and determining that the mba is fine, he asked me to cycle power on the modem and router.  After doing this, the mba connected to the internet with no problem.  I asked him why would the mba need the router to reboot if my other devices are ok?  He said the mba needed to reset its connection.  It's still a mystery to me, but at least now I know what to do.
BTW, OS is 10.7.4 and Safari is 6.0.
Thanks for replying.  Maybe my experience will help someone else.

• Safari can't open a website because Mac OS X doesn't recognize Internet addresses starting with "http:". WHAT??

Today I have been receiving intermittent error messages while running Safari v5.0.6 on my iMac running Mac OS X v 10.5.8 that Safari cannot open internet sites starting with https: or http: because OS X does not recognize https: or http:. It seems to be happening when I try to click on links within pages directing me to other info (on secure web pages).
Clearly there is something very weird going on, as obviously this site is one that starts with https: and I am here posting to the community. Has anyone else seen this?
What is this all about? It worked fine yesterday - I have made no changes to anything. Safari has been running like a slug the past few weeks. I have Apple auto update set to check for updates daily - so I truly have no idea were this is coming from. Any guidance would be apprecited! Thx -

Hello  - anyone have any comments for me on this? Thx -
