Safari can't open Firefox

I just set up an account with parental controls on my Mac for my kids. I currently have Firefox and want them to have it also, but every time I try to type firefox.com, it says "Safari can't open site". Any ideas?

I do not see why you try to ''Google Firefox'' <br /> All that does is find websites relating to Firefox.
What you need to do is ensure that Firefox is installed and available from the Children’s Mac accounts. Once that has been done then you need to work from those Firefox accounts of your children on your computer and register them from there with the schooling website.
So try the following: are you able to
# use the Mac computer as one of your Children ?
#Open and use Firefox from one of the Children's accounts for general browsing ?
# Navigate to the schooling website ? <br />and at least open the general and public webpages there?
From what you say that may also involve installing or using other software and you mention http://www.k12.com/ . Contact them if you need any further help with that part of the process. Presumably if you have already registered your children for the schooling but used your own account you may need to re register them using their own accounts .
I may not have expected parental controls to prevent you registering to a schooling site, however I do not know what software you are using for parental controls. If the schooling site needs subscription fees maybe it gets blocked for that reason.

  • Safari can't open pages that Firefox can

If there is a break in connectivity when Safari is loading a page, it says it can't load the page. When connectivity is back on, Safari still can't load the page. Firefox can. I empty the cache and reset the cache, as well as shutting Safari down and restarting it, but none of that seems to work and the crap program still can't load the page.
Any clues as to how to get Safari to do what it is supposed to do?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

I've had this issue ever since owning my macbook with leopard (nov 2007) Safari will display:
    Safari can’t find the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://whatever page you wanted” because it can’t find the server “watever website”.
This error is completely random and doesnt always effect the same site. I could be on paypal looking at my account then the next moment trying to click a link in paypal I get the cant find sever page. Now the entire paypal site will no longer pull up. I can still surf other pages just nothing that revolves around paypal.
And again its not paypal only. Just about any sites. There is no set number of sites that pulls this up. However, I can use Camino on the same site on the same computer and while Safari pulls up a can not find Camino pulls it up just fine.
Something is wrong with how Safari handles/translates websites. I have tried disabling IPv6 but it doesn nothing to it. Since I have had this error for a few months I have concluded it is an error with Safari as another browser on the same computer and network settings work just fine.
The only way to get the site to pull back up is to reboot the computer (Clearing cache or resetting safari does nothing to help)

  • I can't open firefox in safe mode -- firefox is frozen, I can't open the firefox menu, and I can't quit to reopen in safe mode

    -I am on a Mac.
-Firefox was behaving strangely, so I quit it.
-Upon attempting to reopen firefox, the situation occurred.
    -Firefox is frozen.
-I can not get into the firefox menu. If I click on the firefox icon it still shows me the finder menu (no window appeared either. There are no outward signs firefox is open.)
-I can not open it in safe mode because I can not force quit it either.
-In the force quit menu it says firefox open, but nothing happens when I attempt to force quit it.
    -I got no error message.
-In other words, Firefox is totally unresponsive. I can neither interact with it or force quit it.
    To the solution...
-Upon research I believe its a problem with my theme, but I repeat I can not open firefox in safe mode.
-As I said, it says firefox is open but I can not interact with it.
-I can not restart my computer because it says firefox is open.
-I can not delete firefox because it says firefox is open.
I am posting this from Safari.
Please help, and thank you in advance.

With a Finder window open, are you able to force quit Firefox by selecting the Apple menu > Force Quit > Firefox?
There are another couple of way you can start Firefox in Safe Mode: one is to hold down the "Option" key when you click Firefox in the dock. The other is to run the following command in a Terminal window:
    <pre>/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -safe-mode</pre>
Terminal.app can be found in Applications > Utilities. Just paste in the line above and hit the enter key.

The Terminal command worked like a charm, thanks.

  • Can't open Firefox or IE in other user accounts.

I am using, from the dock, Safari, Firefox 1.5 and IE 5.2.3 without any problems. However I have two other user accounts (family) who can use Safari but cannot open Firefox or IE-all they get is the bouncing icon in the
dock (no message windows). The only way out of this to force quit. We had been using all three browsers without any problems for a long time in each user account.
This problem I can only link to the latest Security Upgrade 2005.09. Is there a link or is it just coincidental.
Have run Disk Utility and repaired Permissions numerous times without any success solving the problem. Is there a solution anyone can offer?
    Help appreciated.

    Hi tharmsen ,
Could I have something messed up in a setting someplace? Argh... so frustrating!
I wondered the same, but i never did get an answer,so i do not know.
I had similar issues with the 1.5 version, i certainly understand your
frustration, i wanted to send it to space!!! i had to remove it.
I am sticking with Safari which I love. Also if Debug enable in menu bar
Safari can emulate a few browsers.
just be aware that there are some issues with the earlier versions of FF,
here is an link i found when i considered going back to the 1.0.4 .
that i was trying to update.

  • Safari Can't Open Webpage

I am using Safari at my home comuputer (Dell, Windows XP). I recently installed it within the past two weeks. Just this Sunday, I noticed that there are several pages that I haven't been able to view and the same message "Safari can’t open the page “https://cavs.bpcc.edu/” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “cavs.bpcc.edu”" pops up, except it uses the current URL.
What is wrong? Anyone have any suggestions because I prefer Safari to IE7.
    Thanks

According to the URL you posted, there's a link on that page for "Browser Requirements", though it looks as though it hasn't been updated in quite some time. Here what it says they support:
To access Student Self-Service, your computer must be equipped with a browser capable of rendering HTML 4.01 and running JavaScript. The following browsers are known to be compatible:
    Windows browsers:
    Firefox 1.5.0.1 and 2.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and 7.0
    Mozilla 1.7.12
    Netscape 7.2 and 8.1
    MAC OS 10.4 browsers:
    Firefox 1.5.0.1 and 2.0
    Netscape 7.2
    MAC OS 10.3 browsers:
    Firefox 1.5.0.1
    Mozilla 1.7.12
    Netscape 7.2
    Assistive Technology:
    IBM Home Page Reader 3.02
    JAWS 5.0
In your browser, you must enable:
JavaScript (required for drop down menus)
    SSL (Secure Socket Layer)
So if they don't support Safari, try downloading Firefox instead, and send them some email about their need to support Safari 3.x (a fully standards-compliant browser) for you and all other users immediately.

  • Safari Can't open this Page Version 3.0.4 (5523.10

I've been giving Safari a serious workout since upgrading to Leopard but I'm about ready to give up.
I continue to have problems loading pages as indicated below. I can open the current FireFox and load the same page with no problem and do it consistently. I am using OpenDNS which has been a huge step in the right direction but this problem persists. Any suggestions other than switching back to FireFox?
    Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “http://my.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyeBay&CurrentPage=MyeBaySelling&ssPageName= STRK:ME:LNLK”. The error was: “cannot decode raw data” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1015) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

Try clearing the cache and remove all cookies in Safari.
To do this, click on Safari/Reset Safari and then choose the items you want to reset.

  • When logging on to certain websites I get a tab come up saying i hav'nt got a valid certificate, and safari can't open it, why has this started happening?

When logging on to certain websites I get a tab come up saying Safari can't open it Because the certificate is not valid, why has this just started happening, and how do I correct it?

Either someone has installed a client side cert into Safari or the site in question has let their SSL cert expire. (not your fault).  You could try using Firefox or Chrome instead.

  • Safari can't open any page. Nor can Software update.

    Hi,
trying to connect but get the following message, "Safari can’t open the page “http:” because it could not connect to the server “”
I am able to connect with mail and firefox.
    Can't connect with software update.
    Does anybody know why?
    Thank you.

    DNS server codes may help.
Go to the Apple Menu>System Preferences>Network panel
-Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the location drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
-Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Only Ethernet or Airport ought to be checked (whichever one you use). Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply". Everything else ought to be unchecked unless you use a Bluetooth device.
-Back to the "Show" menu, select either "Ethernet" or "Airport" (whichever applies to you). Click on the TCP panel. There, if you live outside the US enter 208.67.222.220 and 208.67.220.222 (separate lines) in the DNS servers box - these are Opensource DNS codes. and select "apply". If you live in the US use Verizon's 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 public codes instead of the OpenDNS codes.

  • What is Safari can't open specified address?

Just upgraded to CC. Tried numerous times to download and install apps. Same message keeps appearing:
    Safari can't open specified address
I'm on an iMac, running 10.10.3.
    Any help is appreciated!

Thanks for your response. I tried Safari and Firefox. Both gave me the same message. Several months ago I was able to install a trial version without a problem. I think it might've been heavy traffic on their site, since they sent an email saying this was the 'last hurrah for 40% off', so...

  • Safari can't open Google website

For the last couple of days, my default search engine (www.google.com) was not searching, and giving me following error:
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “www.google.com”.
I went through pages in support about problems with third-party plugins. I've tried un-checking "Enable plug-ins"; Resetting Safari; Emptying Cache; Re-starting Safari and computer, nothing has worked. Other search engines are working e.g. bing, yahoo. I can't open any of google websites from .com or .co.uk or gmail. I've just tried using Firefox and it also can't open google websites.
    I'm using Safari 5.0.3 (5533.19.4) on a Mac OS X 10.5.8.
I had Glims installed on my machine, which I just un-installed it; re-started; re-set safari, but still can't open google website.
As far other websites are concern, so far all the websites which are in frequent use can open. Is there problem with Google, Safari/Firefox (browser) or my mac (virus or something)?
    Thanks a lot everyone.
PS: Oh yes. I got update on Safari yesterday, is that causing any issues?

I had the same problem too.
I searched by using bing.com (fortunately MS search engin has helped me )
    I found a archived post https://discussions.apple.com/message/11061084#11061084
I did what Carolyn said and I also checked the PeerGuardian app
but I don't think it's because of this app that my connection wasn't possible, because I rarely use it.
    Et voilà, everything works now.
I'd like to thank Carolyn and Rave for allowing me to do not format my dear iBook G4 that I haven't formated for over 3 years!!! (I've done the whole backup of my iBook)

  • I can't open Firefox no more, I try clicking on the icon but it doesn't even load anymore.

After some time I realized I can not open Firefox anymore.
I have always used Firefox as my default browser and I really like their features, it's the best browser for me, but for 2 weeks I haven't had the possibility to open it.
I have tried many ways, such as try to open new tab, or try to open new windows, or try to open new private session but none worked. It's impossible to load Firefox. I have been searching on different sites to finally resolve my problem but it didn't help me at all.
I also reinstalled it many times but the same problem.
Thanks in advance and any help will be welcomed.

sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. This may not be a problem with the fire fox instead this may be a problem with your computer.
Plz check your computer for virus mainly "Trojan". download an antivirus and run a full scan and also be updated to latest fire fox version.

  • Can only open firefox once, have to restart to open more than one browser. can't upload any pictures the box doesn't pop up, my browser settings are diff now

Firefox just changed out of nowhere. I can only open firefox once... I used to have atleast 2 browsers up using them both on different sites, but now I can't have but one firefox browser up (not tabs, but firefox pages) Also when I am trying to upload images on ebay or any other site nothing happens... nothing pops up. I click it over and over and nothing even pops up. This is exactly what happens with the firefox browser in my first question... I can click the firefox icon a million times and nothing comes up. My tabs are all gone and it doesn't show anything like I had before this all changed? Did I reset everything some how? I do not recall clicking anything to go back... I do remember clicking an update because it kept poping up so I did it and that is the last thing I remember before this happened! UGHHH!

As I asked previously are you able to have tabs open as a window by using the right clicking option ?
When you close Firefox you should use
    *'''Firefox button -> File -> Exit '''
    Are you doing that ?
I suspect what may be happening is Firefox is hanging as it closes down.
    * see [[Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix#w_firefox-hangs-when-you-quit-it]]_firefox-hangs-when-you-quit-it
    * this explains how to check & if necessary kill the process [["Firefox is already running but is not responding" error message - How to fix it#w_end-firefox-processes]]_end-firefox-processes
A related possible problem is that you may have built up many copies of the restore files. These are stored in the Firefox profile. The easiest method of finding the profile location istouse
*use '''Firefox button -> Help -> Troubleshooting Information <br /> -> [Show Folder]'''
*see [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data]]
You need to look for the files ''sessionstore.js'' and numbered duplicates of that. Delete them.
    * see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs#Multiple_sessionstore.js_files
