"Safari can't open page because it can't find the server"

So i bought an ipod touch at the start of April and i still can't figure out how to access the internet, itunes, etc at my house. I have tried EVERYTHING and NOTHING seems to work.
when i'm uptown i can get on the internet to work as long as no password is required.
my ipod touch says that it is connected to the internet, but then "cannot find server" pops up when i go on safari, and only the IP address and subnet mask are filled out. Also, my IP address is 169...
I have a dlink router, if that helps.
I am getting very frustrated with this, as my main reason for buying the ipod touch is the internet feature. I know that i am not the only on with this problem, so if anyone has found a solution i would really appreciate it.

Hey melnyk_1928,
When a device has a 169.254.x.x IP address it does not have a valid IP address and cannot connect to the Internet. This article provides more information: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58618
Generally WPA2 personal is going to be the best wireless network security option. IF you are using WEP you'll want to use a 5 character or 13 character password for 40 or 128 bit WEP.

  • Iphone 4 error message while in wifi "safari can not open page because server stopped responding" after iOS6 update

I am currently using my Iphone 4 in wifi networks only after canceling my cell phone plan. Over the weekend I did the IOS6 update on the iphone as well as updated my macbooks itunes and OS X operating systems updates that were available.  Since that my iphone's safara app won't connect.  After it trys to connect for a minute or 2 I recieve the message: "safari can not open page because server stopped responding".  However ALL other apps that require the phone to be connected to wifi for use work properly, i.e app store, imessage, pinger, facebook, etc.  I have checked all network setting and they looked right to me.  Anything I'm missing, ideas to try, or am I sol (lol)?  Safari worked perfectly before the update so I thought I might have done something wrong or forgot to change some type of setting.
    Thank you!

If you can access Facebook while on Wifi at home, but you are unable to access it while away running on your carrier's 2G network, I could phone your carrier.  You have already completed the Cellular Data troubleshooting for the iPhone, so any limitations keeping your from connecting to Facebook over cellular will have to be answered by your carrier.

  • Error safari could not open page because it could not load any data

safari could not open page because it could not load any data???? Whats the problem. I am trying to get on my works benefits page to change 401k investments.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Today ==
    == User Agent ==
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16

Read this somewhere else: Can't find it again so can't reference - apols.
    fixed by entering
    about:config into the nav bar
    toggle dom.storage.enabled to 'true'
worked for me - but don't know what it does or why :)

  • TS1398 my problem is my iphone 4s is connected to the internet(wi-fi) with full signal strength but freezes when browsing and says "Cannot Open Page, Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding".

my problem is my iphone 4s is connected to wi-fi with full signal(3 bars) strength but freezes when browsing and says
    "Cannot Open Page"
"Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding"
I already reset the iphone to its factory settings and erase all contents but still the browsing speed freezes or not searching at all. Sometimes it will work and fast but then the problem uccors every now and then. Iv'e been using iphone 4 for two years and I still have it and works fine compared to this IPHONE 4S.

Settings → scroll down to Safari → in Safari settings, I selected both Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data.
IF that does not work -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Finally - if problem still present -
    Go to Settings>General>Reset
Reset the network settings - you will need to add the password of your home WiFi in your phone once more
The device should turn itself off & back on then go into Settings>Wifi and join your network

  • Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding

"Could Not Open Page.... Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding"
....but it could worked just fine for the first 2 weeks of iPhone4 ownership.
WiFi network at home, working fine with MacBook, visiting friends' phones, my new iPhone4 - no problems. Had to power down the modem & router very briefly last night. Rebooted, MacBook connected fine, iPhone doesn't - it goes through the motions - shows all signs of full connection, full signal, password accepted etc etc - but web pages will not open, displaying after 30 secs the warning message above.
Tried at work on another wireless network - same response.
Have gone through all the FAQs, reset network settings, forgotten network etc - still nothing.
Anyone experienced the same and fixed it?
    cheers

I'm having a very similar problem, but it's with my 3G connection, not with wifi. The display tells me there is 3G connectivity, and I get the loading symbol, but pages stop loading a few seconds after I try to open them, and some time later I get the "server stopped responding" message. That happens with addresses I know are working, such as Google. Some times, restarting the iPhone or the internet connection (by switching plane mode on and off) solves the issue, but it has been happening often these days.

  • Safari couldn't open page because server stopped responding

i keep getting this error when i try to open a page on safari
SAFARI COULDN'T OPEN PAGE BECAUSE SERVER STOPPED RESPONDING
It happens whether on wi-fi or cellular data -

Are you able to use other apps that require internet access?
    If so:
Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
Clear the browser cache: Settings App > Safari > Clear History + Clear Cookies and Data.

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

  • Safari can not open page-but I can open manually

my default page is my yahoo page that used to open when I opened a new web page
It was working fine yesterday. I started safari and I get the can't open page message.
I can open it manually but not when I open a new window.
It was working fine and then all of a sudden it did this.
I reset safari and shut down my mac, rebooted, etc. Nothing
    Very very annoying.
    Thanks

Hi everyone, I also had the same problem with connecting to the internet at home, with a brand new iPad, but managed to sort it out today with the help of the Genius Bar staff. I figured it was a router/software issue because wifi/internet was working at my university and at the Apple store. As posted in other threads on this forum, your iPad was probably not assigned an IP address.
I am using an Airport Express 802.11n, and this is connected via ethernet to my modem from my internet provider in Switzerland. It seems the problem is with "Bridge Mode", and my modem won't give out an IP address to my iPad. To fix this, I used the "Share a Public IP address" mode instead of Bridge mode. In Airport Utility, I went to Manual Setup - Internet - Internet Connection tab - Connection Sharing - Share a public IP address.
Then in the DHCP tab, DHCP reservation, I added my iPad to this list. it will ask you for your iPad's MAC number, which you can find in your iPad Settings - General - About - Wifi Address. I did not bother adding my Macbook or iPhone and wifi is still working for them so I think this IP address reservation step might be optional.
For those not using Macs or Airport Utility, unfortunately I am not familiar with setting up routers in the browser, so I can't help you there, but hopefully you get the idea.
Internet now works, but I haven't tried it long enough to know whether I have issues with dropping wifi, but at least the IP address is obtained and I can surf.
    Hope this helps others!!!!!!

  • Safari can't open pages that Firefox can

If there is a break in connectivity when Safari is loading a page, it says it can't load the page. When connectivity is back on, Safari still can't load the page. Firefox can. I empty the cache and reset the cache, as well as shutting Safari down and restarting it, but none of that seems to work and the crap program still can't load the page.
Any clues as to how to get Safari to do what it is supposed to do?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

I've had this issue ever since owning my macbook with leopard (nov 2007) Safari will display:
    Safari can’t find the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://whatever page you wanted” because it can’t find the server “watever website”.
This error is completely random and doesnt always effect the same site. I could be on paypal looking at my account then the next moment trying to click a link in paypal I get the cant find sever page. Now the entire paypal site will no longer pull up. I can still surf other pages just nothing that revolves around paypal.
And again its not paypal only. Just about any sites. There is no set number of sites that pulls this up. However, I can use Camino on the same site on the same computer and while Safari pulls up a can not find Camino pulls it up just fine.
Something is wrong with how Safari handles/translates websites. I have tried disabling IPv6 but it doesn nothing to it. Since I have had this error for a few months I have concluded it is an error with Safari as another browser on the same computer and network settings work just fine.
The only way to get the site to pull back up is to reboot the computer (Clearing cache or resetting safari does nothing to help)

  • Can not open page - Safari can not open page because website is invalid

I have this sign coming up when I try to get onto Safari.  I press the OK but it doesn't let me go back or put in anything on safari so basically I have no web access.  Hhow can I reset Safari so it does not remember the site and lets me use the web as usual.  It is a weather site I clicked on through a goodgle search:
    accuweather.com

  • I can't open pages because it tells me that I need a new program. I have 08 and 09 installed on my new Mac bookair but 08 seems to be the default.

I have a new mac book air and it shows that it has pages 08 and the newer version pages 09 installed, but it only opens in pages 08. Now pages tells me I need to update the progammbefore I can open pages again. Even documents that I have created only yesterday won't open anymore. Any ideas?

I bought the computer and pages 09 via the apple store online and both programs were on the computer when it came. Up to the error message I hadn't even checked which one of the pages program I was working with.

  • I keep getting server or network errors "safari could not open page because the server stopped responding"

i get frequent error messages such as "Safari could not open because the server stopped responding"

I've been getting lots of error messages lately. The one you described is the most recent
    I've also received
    Safari cannot open the page.
The error was: "A data connection is not currently allowed.".
    and
Safari cannot open the page because it could not load any data.
I'm not connected to Wifi and have full service LTE. I have received the last error message described while connected to WiFi as well. iPhone 6 - 8.1.3

  • Can't open songs because it can't find files that are where they should be

For about 90% of my Itunes library, when I try to play a song it says it can't be opened because the file can't be found. I can find the file and it's exactly where it should be and once I find it, it plays fine. These are not new songs, but one's I've had in the library a long time. It's pointing correctly to the Itunes music folder, but only seems to be able to find stuff that I fairly recently added. Can anyone help?

It is likely that something has been moved. iTunes does not do folder watching so if anything moves or is renamed iTunes will not find it.
If you open iTunes Music Library.xml with WordPad, you can see where iTunes thinks your music files are located.
Look for Lines starting <Location>, note the the space character is represented by %20 in the path.
You can look for specific files with Find.
This may help you to workout what has gone wrong. Whether or not this leads to an easy solution is less certain. If the files are not where iTunes thinks they should be, and moving them so that the path is correct is one possibility if it can easily be done. The other is to use Find and replace to correct the paths if there is an easy edit that can be done. Then recreate the library from the xml file as in this article.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
The third possibility that is easy and certain to work is to start with a new library. But this loses all counts ratings and playlists.
Close iTunes, drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music library.xml out of the iTunes folder to the desktop.
Open iTunes and an empty library is created. Use File>>Add folder to library... to add you iTunes Music folder.
