Safari cannot download Windows Media Player

When I try to download Windows Media Player for Mac on my iTouch the message says Safari cannot download it. Is there a solution to this problem?

The answer is in your question. The iPod touch (not iTouch) is not a Mac.
To play Microsoft's proprietary WMV format you need to convert them on your desktop computer to one of the many open standards the iPod touch can play.

  • Cannot download Windows Media Player for Mac.....

On this intel-based mac, i cannot seem to download Windows Media Player, or Flip4Mac components for Quicktime...has anyone found a solution for this problem....although i think Quicktime is a really nice media player, Windows Media Player is used much more frequently and i need it to view videos that Quicktime Player cannot open and that are only available in WMA format..please help me!...

OK here's the deal, you can download www.flip4mac.com and load onto your Intel MBP. First thing to do before launching the flip4mac installer is to go to
Applications-->Utilities - Find the application "Installer" and right click- get info and check box "open using rosetta".
Go back to flip4mac installer and launch. It will now allow you to install onto Intel Mac. Previously, you would get an error not allowing you to install on Intel Macs. Should be gone now. Once installed, you can go back and change the installer back to original. Once flip4mac is installed, find the Safari app in the applications folder and right click- get info and select "open using rosetta". All Windows .wmv files will now play within the browser window and not download to your HD. The sacrifice is the hit in speed you'll take while Safari runs in Rosetta mode. But you can toggle on and off as you need.

  • Safari cannot open Windows Media videos in Safari - plugin missing

This is annoying that I cannot see embedded windows media player in Safari - and the page that you suggest (click ok) goes to window media microsoft site and you can download windows media player for many versions bbuutt (but) I already have the latest version of media player -- so what is the solution?

You cannot use the WMP plug-in on an Intel Mac. To make it work you have to force Safari to run via Rosetta. Select Safari then press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Check the box labeled "Open in Rosetta."

  • Cannot install windows media player

i downloaded windows media player for mac but cannot install it on my macbook pro. its giving me an error that it is not supported on this system. Is there an easy way to install it, or is there a version avaialbe for macbook pro?

Flip4Mac will not work on Intel Macs as its not Universal yet.
If anyone here wants a Universal plugin for WMV content and cannot wait for Flip4Mac to go Universal try Popwire Tech.
    http://www.popwire.com/productinfo.php?cPath=1&productsid=7
Its free for playback of WMV in QT but you have to pay if you want to encode to WMV.

  • Cannot get Windows Media Player off my computer

I downloaded Windows Media Player for something a while back and found that I did not need it, so I put it in the garbage. Trouble is, I cannot get it out of the garbage! I cannot empty my recycle bin without bypassing the WMP. So I tried taking it out of the trash, but it only copied it out of the trash, so I had to trash the copy as well and now have two copies of WMP in my garbage this will not get off my computer.
Recently have been having problems with my computer just shutting off, and now iPhoto doesn't work properly. Do not know if these things are related. Somebody please help?

Hold down the option key when emptying the trash.

  • How do I download Windows Media Player to my Windows 7 - 32 bit laptop?

As the title suggests, I am having a bit of difficulty going to the Microsoft Website and downloading Windows Media Player - version 11 to my Windows 7 Hewlett Packard laptop - the Pavilion dv4.    Any suggestions?  I do not see WMP in
my list of applications nor is it under the Control Panel in Add/Remove programs.   I cannot therefore run the Demos with Microsoft has on using MS-WORD 2007 which is the version that came installed with my laptop in 2011.
Please give me some step by step instructions for finding if I have WMP at all.  Second, please tell me how I can then download from Microsoft's site.  I really need to learn the ins and outs of Word and I'm used to the prior Word version.
    thanks.

If you purchased the pc in Europe or South Korea, you may have a Win 7 "N" or "KN" version which does not ship with Windows Media Player. Please see
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/products/what-is-windows-7-n-edition
To check your Windows version see
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/find-which-edition-of-windows-7-you-are-using
To install Windows Media Player on Win 7 N or KN, see
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16546
...and WMP version 12 was released in 2009.

  • Problems downloading Windows Media Player 9

I have a problem! When I go to
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/windowsmediaplayerformacosx.html
to download windows media player 9, then I get the following message:
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.com/” because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet.
Of course I am connected to the internet and can surf all day long, but as soon as I try to download the player (or Flip4Mac, for that matter) I get this error! The connection then is restored fairly quickly, and everything works fine, until I try to download again!! Very strage... Does anybody know what to do?
    Thanks!!!
    MacPeace

You might want to take this problem up in the Safari forum, since it's not related to QuickTime, per se.
Also, if in the future you have questions about QuickTime, you'll generally get the quickest and most accurate responses if you ask in the QuickTime for Mac forum rather than here in the QuickTime for Windows forum.
    Regards.

  • Download windows media player movies to itunes to ipod

download windows media player movies to itunes to ipod?  downloaded music ok

I saw that post... but it doesn't match the screen in Windows Media Player 0. On the Sync tab there is a Start Sync button a Edit Playlist button and Set up Sync button. The 'Set up Sync' button is always disabled.
I can't figure out how to get the playlists downloaded to the Zen Touch. Windows Media Player 0 would be the way to go if I could get the playlists to download.
I have played around over and over with the screens etc... I just can't figure out how to make them download with the Zen Touch anyway... 40 gig, for what it's worth.
If someone has been able to do this with a Zen Touch, I would love to know how to do it.

  • Downloading Windows Media Player on Mac

Not sure if this is the right section or not so sorry if it's in the wrong place.
I'm trying to download Windows Media Player but the installer file is a .sitx. I can't figure out how to install it with this. I'm very new to mac so please explain it to me so I can understand it.

You need to download and install Stuffit Expander, available free from Stuffit.com in order to open .sit (Stuffit) files.

  • I cannot get windows media player to open. Do I need to download something? I have Windows 7

I cannot get past first page when you are prompted to choose  recommended or custom setting.
I'm trying to transfer downloaded music to media player so i transfer it to ipod. Is that the correct way
to go about that or should I have downloaded to media player to begin with?

This article by Microsoft explains how to use Windows Media Player 12 in Windows 7.
Lots of good information here; I hope it has the answers you are looking for.

  • How do I force Safari to use Windows Media Player as my default WMV player.

I am subscribed to a educational program called "the Epson Online Experience", and the entire program is in Windows Media Player videos. I was using Safari and Mac OS 10.3.9 with no problem what so ever, until Quick Time updated itself. Now I can't get WMP to play at all in Safari, or in Camino or IE either. The browsers just keep trying to play the link in Quick Time.
I did download Flip4Mac, but with no luck. The links now appear to open, appear to be downloading the buffer, but will stay on that screen for hours if I allow it.
Does anyone know how to make Windows Media Player the default media player in Safari? or for that matter, in Camino (or if I MUST, I guess I would be willing to try it in IE too if I could make it work.
    Thanks for the help!

Welcome to Apple Discussions. Your post seems to have been lost in a sea of Safari problems.
Usually items triggering media players create a file, which is downloaded into your system. Check your download folder for the file. If you can't find it, access the same file again via Safari.
Once you locate the file on your HD, click on it. Then, command key + I will bring up the info panel for the file (or simply select "more info" in the preview panel if you're in the finder's column mode). Go to the bottom where you'll see "open with". There, you see "quicktime" listed as the app. for opening the file. Click on the drop down menu and find the Windows player and select it.
Back to the info. panel - select "change all". This will revert all files of this type on your HD, plus future files to the Windows Media Player. Double click on the file to activate the video. Future selections in Safari will automatically open the correct media player. One other note, for the player to open automatically, you must check "open safe files after downloading" in your Safari Preferences>General panel.
    Post back with results.

  • Cannot install Windows Media Player 11 plugin. Not even manually

Since I can't install the Windows Media Player 11 plugin through the plugins section, I tried installing it manually from the link http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx multiple times and it still will not show up in about:plugins. I followed instructions from Firefox and rebooted after the install and still won't show up. I am using Windows 7 64 bit and have the latest version of Firefox. cannot play videos embedded in websites that support windows media streaming.

  • Downloading Windows Media Player

I've tried several times to download the Windows Media Player, all that ends up on my desk top is a DOC that I cannot open. While it's downloading I do get a warning for authorization to install the program. I'm getting the download directly from the Microsoft website, I've also tried other download sites.

the file extension is .sitx which is a stuffit format. If you download the plain stuffit expander, however, it won't work. It will start up and then quit. there is a bug in the stuffit expander that causes it to shut down when you don't have IPv6 running.
Go to the stuffit site and find the "upgrade" option. You'll have to leave your name and email address like you're upgrading a regular version. Do it anyway. You will get a link for a download of the whole stuffit program. It will install only the stuffit expander on your system unless you have a license for more. THAT version of the expander will work, and you'll be in business.

  • Safari crashes with Windows media player and pdf files

My Safari beta 3.0.3 crashes when I access windows media player files or pdf files. I am running 10.4.10. I tried to go back to Safari 2 but the installer did not let me because of the 10.4 version.

You may want to try installing the most recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0.x, as this resolved the issue for me. Download the Acrobat Reader Install app. shut down all browsers, uninstall all older versions of Acrobat Reader (unless you really want to keep them), then install the version 8.x version. You may need to restart your computer too. After Safari 3 has the plug-in from Acrobat Reader 8.x in use, you are not likely to have any more PDF issues.

  • Web page music loads in IE but not Firefox. Have downloaded Windows Media Player Firefox plug in but still nothing. Any other suggestions?

Can't get any sound when I open one webpage in Firefox but sound works in Internet Explorer. sound files are .wmv and mp3 format.
I have Windows Media Player Firefox Plug in installed and set to always activiate. Also have Quicktime & Shockwave activated. Any suggestions. Operating system is Windows 7. Thanks

There are a couple issues here that might be the culprit. One is that the player is hidden using a variety of techniques and Firefox often suppresses hidden content because it can be annoying not to be able to control your experience with media. Another possible issue is that the embed tag doesn't specify a content type. Firefox appears to be guessing anyway, and in my case asking whether to activate the QuickTime plugin, but then nothing plays.
To test what would happen if both of those were addressed, you can run this script using Firefox's Web Console. It grabs the address of the media and creates a new embed that is visible and specifies the content type. Here's how to use it:
Select the following long line of code and copy it:
    function reEmbedMpeg(em){var el=document.createElement("embed"); el.setAttribute("type","audio/mpeg"); el.setAttribute("src",em.src); el.setAttribute("style","height:20px;width:200px;position:fixed;right:0;top:0"); document.body.appendChild(el);} reEmbedMpeg(document.querySelector("embed"));
When viewing the problem page, press Ctrl+Shift+k to open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab.
Paste the code next to the caret (>>) on the bottom line and press Enter to run it. A player should appear in the upper left corner, the progress bar should show downloading and then the content should play.
Obviously it's not practical to hack every web page you find, but if this is your site or you would be interesting in contacting the owner, hopefully this post will help in getting this working in Firefox.
