Safari Cannot find Server

hi all,
just purchased a new macbook a few days ago and i have found that when i am trying to access certain websites i get a message up saying "safari cannot open the followig page as Safari cannot find the server". i have tried emptying cache and reseting safari but it is still happening on a regular basis with different sites. could it be a problem with my internet settings?? i connect via airport to a wireless modem.

Hello z:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
First, check with your ISP to be sure your settings are correct.
To correct a different problem, I use OpenDNS (free version). That may not address your issue, but it cannot hurt.

Be sure you have a good WiFi signal!
Try reset modem/router (disconnect from power for some minutes)
Keep the Powerbutton and the Homebutton pressed at the same time until you see the Apple logo on your iPad screen.

Elsewhere on the forum my question was answered.
On the network for my wi-fi, I went to the STATIC set up and put it the DNS servers for my local ISP.
After those numbers were entered, Safari and email worked well.
I was lucky to GOOGLE the FRONTIER DNS server numbers.
Since I also use TIME WARNER CABLE, I tried to find their numbers but have not had luck yet.
In any case, my iPhone is now working with Wi-Fi

  • Safari cannot open facebook, cannot find server.. why ?

When I try to go to the facebook page, Safari cannot open it, says "Safari cannot find server"..."Safari cannot conect to server".. etc etc

Double-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    www.facebook.com
Launch the Network Utility application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Network Utility in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field (command-V). Press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
    Important Note
Some web browsers and mail clients will automatically convert a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a clickable URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters.

  • Safari being REALLY slow or sometimes "Cannot find server"! HELP!

Right, i have the new 'Safari 4' but its being really slow.
When trying to load up webpages, it sometimes takes AGES to load a page, or sometimes it even comes up with the message 'Safari cannot find the server'.
I have 'LittleSnitch' installed so I can see when Safari is using the internet to either upload or download information and most of the time, Safari is sat there doing nothing and not downloading any information...
I have reset Safari to no avail!
    Why might this be happening?

    'Safari cannot find the server'
Generally refers to a DNS problem.
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.

  • Safari cannot find the server and question mark in blue square

    Hi
I consistently have problems with safari displaying the message safari cannot find the server. The version I have is 5.1.8 and I installed a security update today (23.3.13) hoping it would solve the problem. After refreshing the page a couple of times or restarting safari everything works as normal but this is an ongoing issue. I also have problems with images loading on sites. They appear as blue squares with question marks. I have tried most things people have said on the net but nothing is working.
    Please help!
    Thanks

    HI aad1612,
Try deleting the safari plist by foloowing these instructions:
    Close Safari
    Open a Finder window
Click on "Go" in the upper status bar
Click and HOLD the alt/option key (Library should appear in the above list)
Keep holding the alt/otion key and click on Library (this will open a new window)
Open the Preference folder (NOT Preference Panes)
    Look for com.apple.Safari.plist
Right mouse client to move this file to trash
    Empty the trash
Open Safari again and hopefully your issue will be reoslved.
    Good Luck

  • "Cannot Find Server" Constant Error Message

I've been having this problem for quite some time. I will attempt to connect to a website only to wait forever and then get a "Cannot find server" error message. It's not just with one site, it happens with many.
It's also random. Sometimes everything connects fine and fast, and then inexplicably I get "Cant' find server" for sites like Facebook, Amazon, even Apple. It can start working again for a few minutes and then in an instant I'm getting error messages again.
However, my email always works fine.
And this is NOT a Safari problem. I also get the same trouble when I switch to Firefox or Explorer. My ISP says it's an Airport / Mac issue since it all works fine if I direct connect to the laptop and because my email is also working.
In addition, when I'm having this problem, my iPhone also cannot connect to the WWW but can get email.
I've tried powercycling the modem and the airport numerous times. It's really becoming a pain.
    Any thoughts?

Me too I tried everything. I am an Apple fan with 2 computers,3 iPods. I have no idea what the problem is. I had to re-run the disk each time to find the internet. Finally tried a Linksys Grouter worked first time-laptop anywhere in the house strong signal. I have had similar problems with an Airport Express-never got it to work-so tried the Extreme. I returned it-I didn't want to but I just could not get it to work.

  • Safari cannot find the internet plug in

I have a new Intel iMac that initially had no problem surfing any web site. I now have a problem with any page that contains "shockwave". As and example when I try to got to www.autotoll.com.hk I get stopped by the following message...
++Safari cannot find the internet plug in++
++The page “Autotoll” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:++
    ++http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer++
++Do you want to open the page?++
I have gone to macromedia numerous times and tried to download and install Flash Player 9. I still get the same message.
I have also tried using FIREFOX and get the same message.
How do I install Flash Player 9 properly??????
    HELP!!!

Re: FLASH 9 won't work with Safari 2.0.4 or Firefox (A FIX!!!)

    threejay10,
thanks for pointing me to the other discussion thread on
    http://www.justin-cook.com/wp/2007/03/08/flash-9-doesnt-work-on-mac-os-x/
i am not that comfortable in Terminal so I opted for the one other option i could see that doesn't reliance on me typing a slew of sensitive characters into Terminal.
So, instead, I downloaded Pseudo from VersionTracker
    http://versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/9608
installed it in my applications folder. then dragged the Flash 9 installer onto Pseudo. Flash then installed perfectly and all is working well.
It seems there is a simple fix after all. Apparently Pseudo installs into the root and therefore, I assume, bypasses the permissions issues. After 2 days of trying to solve this, I"m happy it's over. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. I hope others can find this thread and the solution.
    Cheers, TM

  • HP Laserjet 2015 ..."Cannot Find Server"

    Thank you Garland_M for replying.
I have since removed the Printer Server, and found that I can simply put the USB Cable from the Printer to Computer 1, and Computer 2 will see it on the Network..... so I didn't even need that Printer Server in my setup as I had been informed.

    rkaufmann87,
The printer that I have does not have network capabilities built in.... to have the network capabilities, HP says an additional piece of equipment must be used.... in my case, an HP JetDirect 175x Print Server... I found a used one on eBay that was inexpensive, so I purchased that, and have been trying to configure it to my computer and printer for about 5 hours now.... all I got were error pages.
I have an older iMac (2008), and I wanted the ability of the use of one printer for the new and old computers.
After I read your advice, I disconnected the HP JetDirect 175x Print Server entirely, and used just a USB cable from the printer to the computer.
The printer worked great from my new computer, but I still wanted the ability of using the printer with the older computer (Wi-Fi). I went into the Print & Scan of System Preferences, and for the heck of it, I clicked the "Printer Sharing" box.
I went to the old computer, and for the heck of it, I tried printing something.... LO & BEHOLD it worked.
I don't know how it works, because as I said before, the printer is not network-ready.  When I bought the printer several years ago, there were two printers of that model on the shelf.  One was a HP 2015, and the other was a HP 2015n.... (n meaning network).  At the time I didn't think that I would ever need a network printer, which was more expensive, so I purchased the non-network one.
Now I am truly bewildered as to how I am able to print from both computers without the HP JetDirect 175x Print Server.
Do you, or anyone else have the answer to that????

  • IE returns "Cannot find server" page during Servlet processing

I have 2 JSP applications, that require a certain amount of server processing before they complete. For small amounts of information, both of these applications work fine. However, with larger amounts of processing, IE seems to timeout or have a problem maintaining its session and returns with "Cannot find server" - the actual server processing continues meanwhile. This only happens with IE - other browsers maintain persistence. The "timeout" is always consistent - 5 minutes or so with one of the applications, 13 minutes with the other.
I can find no IE configuration that controls this. Since this doesn't happen with other browsers, is this an IE problem or a design issue with the application that doesn't manifest itself with other browsers ?

I wouldn't call it an IE problem. I would call it a design issue -- you should not take that long to return a response to the browser. Instead, you should return an immediate response that says something like "Your request has been received for processing", and have some other thread processing requests off-line. That other thread should send a notification (by e-mail?) to the user when the request has been processed, including a link where the data can be accessed.

  • Forms/4GL Tutorial Returns Cannot find server or DNS Error

    Hi:
I am trying to plow through this tutorial (10.1.3.1.0) and when I run the SRList.jpsx page I receive the error: Cannot find server or DNS Error. The URL produced by JDeveloper is:
    http://192.168.99.36:8988/SRTutorialADFBC-UserInterface-context-root/faces/app/SRList.jspx.
    Any suggestions?
I've culled the forums and the Web, and cannot find a match. The only nugget that I can add is that I'm using JDeveloper with the OA Framework extension. I have been successful creating pages with OA Framework and executing them. Is there some incompatibility with OA Framework and ADF?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Mchrist,
You cannot use the OA Framework download to develop ADF apps.
I would create two batch/command files: in each one, set JDEV_USER_DIR and any other environment variables to point to a proper place and run the JDeveloper.
Just unzip JDev and OA Framework to separate locations and ensure that the user directory for each is in a separate location as well.

  • Cannot find server error trying to download Migration Workbench

I've been trying to download OMWB for the last 4 days, from Oracle Migration Workbench Downloads / Release 9.2.0.1.2 for Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000/XP page.
Keep getting 'Cannot find server' and 'Page cannot be displayed' errors in Internet Explorer.
    Is this the correct URL:
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/omwb/92012/omwb_92012.exe
I downloaded and used the previous version of OMWB. Was very satisfied with it. Unfortunately, I had to rebuild my hard drive and lost OMWB.

I suggest that you retry, maybe there was some network glitches... If you follow the links from OTN you should be able to download no problems. Did you try the split downloads as an alternative?
