Safari cannot find the internet plug in

I have a new Intel iMac that initially had no problem surfing any web site. I now have a problem with any page that contains "shockwave". As and example when I try to got to www.autotoll.com.hk I get stopped by the following message...
++Safari cannot find the internet plug in++
++The page “Autotoll” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:++
++http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer++
++Do you want to open the page?++
I have gone to macromedia numerous times and tried to download and install Flash Player 9. I still get the same message.
I have also tried using FIREFOX and get the same message.
How do I install Flash Player 9 properly??????
HELP!!!

Re: FLASH 9 won't work with Safari 2.0.4 or Firefox (A FIX!!!)

threejay10,
thanks for pointing me to the other discussion thread on
http://www.justin-cook.com/wp/2007/03/08/flash-9-doesnt-work-on-mac-os-x/
i am not that comfortable in Terminal so I opted for the one other option i could see that doesn't reliance on me typing a slew of sensitive characters into Terminal.
So, instead, I downloaded Pseudo from VersionTracker
http://versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/9608
installed it in my applications folder. then dragged the Flash 9 installer onto Pseudo. Flash then installed perfectly and all is working well.
It seems there is a simple fix after all. Apparently Pseudo installs into the root and therefore, I assume, bypasses the permissions issues. After 2 days of trying to solve this, I"m happy it's over. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. I hope others can find this thread and the solution.
Cheers, TM

Just wondering if anyone can help....I do not have a Mac so am finding it difficult to test.
I have just published an online magazine which was initially in the .dnl file format, which has come to light that mac users cannot view.
To try and resolve this I created an .exe file but it would seem that most mac users cannot view this either as they do not have virtual pc etc... which is required to view the .exe file.
I have now created a PDF version which has satidifed some people on macs temporarily but trying desperately to offer something to mac users I thought I had the answer, by uploading the magazine to a browser so it does not require downloading.....but:
The first person to try it out for me got: Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in and on trying to obtain one it could not find one.
I really thought it would work as you do not need the .dnl reader until you try to save the book or detach it to view it on screen.
Does anyone know if there is a way to view the content in a web browser????
Any help would be much appreciated as I do not want to leave the Mac users out.
Here is the link incase anyone fancies trying it for me....any feedback would be appreciated.

  • Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in (MIME type...x-shockwave-flash)

Well, YouTube and other flash sites worked fine just until today. So I get this message :
+The page “YouTube - Meet Single File” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.+
I've already tried Disk Repair to repair the permissions, installed, re-installed Flash Player and Shockwave Player and nothing yet. System preferences with QuickTime Advanced Panel to enable flash and the other miscelaneous one I unchecked, the normal procedure, I guess. Also checked the libraries to see if I didn't have the plugin in two libraries, but i'm not sure about the library/plugin issue.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Best Regards,

  • Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in? Please explain.

I cant watch/stream? an internet video because I dont have a mime type plug-in?

RealPlayer is the only option for playing those streams. However, the quality of the video depends on your internet connection speed and the settings in RealPlayer.
To adjust the bandwidth parameters, open RealPlayer and from the RealPlayer menu and select Preferences.
    Click on the "Connection" tab.
If you know the speed of your internet connection, you can manually set the connection speed from the drop-down menu.
If you don't know the speed of your connection, click the "Test Connection" button to automatically adjust the parameters.
Once you are finished adjusting the connection speed, quit RealPlayer and go back and try the stream again. I suspect the quality will be improved.

  • Safari isn't working properly, says it cannot find the Internet plug-in

After I installed Mozilla Firefox, Safari is not working properly. It says:
Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in
The page “Now Casting - The Best in Guides & Labels” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.
I tried to install the flasf player and a web page appears saying that it is installed but obviously isn't.
Please tell me what is wrong so I can use my Safari.
    Thank you.

    Any help?

I don't know if there is something odd in your existing Safari application or an out of synch preference setting exists.
Go to your System Preferences>Flip4Mac panel. All boxes, except for "Launch QT Player" ought to be checked. In the Player Panel all boxes ought to be checked. If different, correct then restart Safari and try the file type again.
If settings are correct, reinstall Safari from your Installer DVD. You can follow these instructions - More custom reinstallation options - even though they are intended for Tiger users.
If you reinstall, make sure you "repair permissions" using Disk Utility in your Utilities folder when complete.

  • Safari cannot find the internet plugin?!?

    Hi,
    When I try to listen to something on a website I chose Windows Media but I get this error "This page has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:" and it links me to Microsoft to download Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X, but when I try to download it, I get this error;
"Safari can’t open the page “http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/f/3/0f347443-f1ff-4830-9b20-65da2c6bf11 1/WindowsMediaInstaller.bin” because it can’t find the server “download.microsoft.com”."
I looked in applications, but i don't even have Internet Explorer in there (that I can find anyway).
I would appreciate any help, Thanks

    Hi,
Radiomat worked fine for me. I tried it with pop-ups both on and off and either way it seemed to launch the same mini player window (with pop-ups blocked I did have to click the link to launch the player). Not much appeared to load into the player window but the audio stream did work correctly.
I tried looking at the code but quickly got lost, so I'm not sure what format they are using to broadcast.
Is it still not working for you (maybe they fixed things overnight :-)? If not, does it work from a test user account?

  • Get error "Safari can't find the Internet plug-in"

I get error when I tried to open a Potcast on IBM's website in Safari 5 for Windows 7
"Safari can't find the Internet plug in. Some content on the page "IBM Cloud Computing - idea - United States - United States' Can't be shown because its MIME type is unspecified.
    I checked these settings
    -Plug-ins enabled in edit\preferences\security
    -Java enabled in edit\preferences\security
    -JavaScript enabled in edit\preferences\security
-Quick Time Player 7.6.6 is installed and works
-Potcast works on Google and IE. Note: IE prompted for MIME type configuration, clicked Yes and Potcast worked.
I tried to search the web for answer but couldn't find solution for this error.
I checked Apple's forum and didn't find anything so Please help.
    thanks

Is that the "Listen and learn about cloud computing and the IBM difference" podcast on this page, Concise?
    http://www.ibm.com/smarterplanet/us/en/cloud_computing/ideas/index.html
If so, I can replicate the effect on my XP SP3 box (running Safari 5.0).
A bit odd, because it just looks to be a QuickTime plugin when I click on it in IE.
The W3C Markup validation service doesn't like the code on that page much:
    [88 Errors, 69 warning(s)|http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ibm.com%2Fsmarter planet%2Fus%2Fen%2Fcloud_computing%2Fideas%2Findex.html&charset=%28detect+automa tically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0]
... but it might be worth doing a "Help > report bugs to Apple" (in Safari) just in case the effect isn't related to the code.
(If anyone has suggestions for Concise on workarounds to get safari to play the podcast, please feel free to leap in.)

  • Safari cannot find the server and question mark in blue square

    Hi
I consistently have problems with safari displaying the message safari cannot find the server. The version I have is 5.1.8 and I installed a security update today (23.3.13) hoping it would solve the problem. After refreshing the page a couple of times or restarting safari everything works as normal but this is an ongoing issue. I also have problems with images loading on sites. They appear as blue squares with question marks. I have tried most things people have said on the net but nothing is working.
    Please help!
    Thanks

  • "Safari can't find the internet plug-in" I want to remove this warning

Is there a way to get rid of this warning without having to install the required plugin?

It's flash. I moved the plugin in the /library/internet plugins/ folder to a separate folder.
I find flash ads annoying and I use a separate browser to view flash content, when I need to.
I've tried other things. I've tried using the disable plug-ins option. I still want to use the other plugins. I don't want to use input-manager hacks such as saft and the like.
The only other option is to use clicktoflash. Not the best option since I still get gradient boxes that say flash on them (I'd rather have empty space). But if I can't get rid of the pop-up warnings I'm going to be using this.

    HI Brian,
Try maintenance and see if that helps...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
If you have Safari 3rd party plugins or Input Managers, they may not be compatible with 10.6 or Flash. Go here for trouble shooting. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
If you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. *Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*
