Safari cannot handle pdf and forms

I have two G4s using Tiger and Safari, identical settings. One can read pages which have pdf, and can fill out pdf forms. The other (newer) G4 cannot fill out pdf forms. I made sure that both have the same plug-ins in Library>Internet plug-ins, and now the newer G4 will not even read pdf pages.
When I open a page with a pdf, it asks me to "select an Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader application to use". I have the latest Adobe Reader installed, but when the request to select comes up, Adobe Reader is GRAYED OUT.
There is nothing in Safari's amazingly lame Help about this, and no other information available, as far as I can tell. Apple's tech support has been fading fast, and is essentially gone from the Apple Stores except by paying special fees.
Can anyone provide a solution to this problem?
PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Do both use the same OS version and Safari version. Per the Acrobat readme.html document,
Mac OS X v.10.3.x or later and Safari 1.2.2 or later are required to use Adobe Reader in a browser window.

  • Cannot view pdf in snow leopard in safari, cannot view pdf in snow leopard in safari

I have a MacBookPro  Duo Core   that I just installed Snow Leopard on, Now I cannot view pdf's online in either Safari or FireFox. And I am getting  a message when I open Safari that it does not support community toolbar.

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Safari cannot open pdf files

Running Safari 5.1.2 and when I click a link in either a website or an email that links to a pdf file, all I get is a dark grey screen in Safari.
Same thing if I paste the link into Firefox.
No internet plug-ins in that file.
    Deleted com.apple.Safari.plist file
    Tried opening Safari in 32bit.
This is starting to become a big problem for me, anyone have any ideas or thoughts?
    Thank you in advance.

There are no files in my internet plug-in folder.
    Ok..
Randy..  are you aware there are two libraries?
    One is root denoting /Library
One is your Home folder ~/Library  (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
You may be looking in the wrong library.
An easy way to locate a file is to open the Finder. From the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this in exactly as you see it here >     /Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you see the PDF Browser plugin, move it to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari to test.

  • Safari cannot scroll up and down.it is 'frozen'

Safari. Can open an adress on safari however the page is ,grey, and will not scroll up and down. It is completely frozen, so i cannot use internet at all. Any ideas what to do?

Start with the third suggestion in this list - the one about resetting Safari.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Reset Safari. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Quit Safari and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Safari cannot recognize Pdf files

    Safari  6.0.1
    OSX 10.8.2
I have seen many posts relative to Safari being able to open Pdfs, but my issue is different.
Safari can open the document, but it is not able to recognize the document as pdf and does not render it and just shows the raw data.
Here is the start of a pdf document openned with Safari:
    "%PDF-1.1 %âãÏÓ 2 0 obj << /Length 608 /Filter /LZWDecode >> stream €  Ñ€È..."
Many posts recoment trashing /Library/Internet Plusind/AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin and /Library/Internet Pluins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin either in root or in user directories. I have tried but nothing good happens.

Font problems and management in OS X
    I have found some issues.
    - Apple Symbols.ttf is duplicated.
    - Other 35 very common fonts have problems. Some of them Verdana, Tahoma,  Times New Roman, Georgia, Comic Sans MS, Arial in all its formats (black, narrow, etc...) and many other. All this fonts have two versions, one marked with an error and other with .ttf (true type font) extension.
I have saved the report created by Font Book and made it accesible via:
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14493442/fonts.report
Anyway I don't know how can I test if this is the problem and I don't feel secure to start removing fonts that can cause unestability to the system before I know that this is the source of the problem.

  • Safari 3.0.4 and form handling

I'm a web developer and I'd like to keep things as cross browser as I can so I checked out an application I am building for facebook and all of my forms are not handled by Safari. It's version 3.0.4 running on a intel macbook pro with 10.5.2.
    <form action="dowork.php" method="post" id='player2' name='player2'>
results in an error while trying to call:
    http://www.domain.com/testapp.phphttp://www.domain.com/dowork.php?auth_token=0cd acec04f15cfb6da3f4f3ebb92ab41
this is clearly very wrong. Everything works quite well in IE, Safari, Firefox, and other Mozilla based browsers.
Why? What is causing this? I can't just say oh well it's Safari, I limit users that way.

In addition to all of the other good advice here, also make sure that you don't have more than one Safari application file on your hard drive. Sometimes people discover that the Safari application that their Dock icon is pointing to is not the one in their Applications folder, because at some point in the past they moved the application to a location other than their Application folder. Updates and upgrades will update the file in the Applications folder, while another Safari application file elsewhere on the hard drive will remain untouched.
Do a Spotlight search for "safari" (without the quotes) or Control-click on the Safari icon in your Dock and choose "Show in Finder" to reveal its location on your hard drive.

  • Since updating safari, it scrambles pdfs and won't load them in preview

since the last update of Safari, I cannot open any pdfs in either preview or adobe reader (I prefer preview).  it will however open photos if I click on them (and opens them in preview).  what I get when I click on something to open - or sometimes even a link, is a page of gibberish. Help!

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • IPhone Safari cannot open PDF in iBook

I retrieved a PDF file online with iPhone Safari, while tapping on the "open in iBooks" tap at the top right side, I found out that it was not working as before, is it a bug in iOS 5?

Well, no luck after the updates. PDF problem still persists.
Beside this, it seems to have other compatible issues with website like ims.netiquette.com.sg too. A bug is preventing me tapping and keying in directly onto web form boxes , after I make item selection from drop-down menu.
    This is truly a disaster...

  • Safari cannot open PDFs in Preview

When I view a PDF in Safari and I choose the "Open PDF in Preview" icon it opens instead in Adobe Reader, not Preview. Control clicking gives the only option as "Open with Adobe Reader xx.x.x". I don't have the AdobePDFViewer.plugin, either at the root level or my user level of Library/Internet Plug-ins. So, how do I get a PDF to open in Preview when viewing it online in Safari?
To be clear, I'm not talking about opening a PDF from the Finder.
I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10. Reader is at 10.1.3.

    Back up all data.

  • Safari Plug-ins, pdf and Preview?

Is it possible to set Safari to use a Preview plug-in to read pdf files? I can find the list of installed plug-ins (Help: Installed Plug-ins) but I can't see any way to edit them. I don't care if Preview opens the files within Safari, or if Preview just starts up and displays the pdf files in its own window.
At the moment, when I click a pdf file link within Safari, Safari doesn't know what to do because it can't find Adobe Acrobat Reader. (I recently un-installed Adobe Acrobat Reader because I got tired of Adobe's shenanigans.)
    Thanks!

You just might get a quick response if you post in the Safari forum area here:

  • Safari cannot download PDFs

I am using Safari 2.0.2 with OX 10.4.3 on a Dual Processor G4. All of a sudden it is impossible to download a PDF from any site. The PDF window opens, but nothing appears except the spinning color wheel. Safari is frozen and it is necessary to force quit. Throwing away Safari preference files and even reloading the program has no effect. I am not sure whether the problem is in Safari or the OS. Anyone have any insight? It would be much appreciated!

  • IMac cannot handle Mavericks and external display?

I am a long-time apple-user and long-time user of this wonderful forum. This is, however, the first time I have needed to ask a question of my own having been unable to find an answer on here or elsewhere. In fact, I haven't read of anyone experiencing the issues that I am.
I recently purchased a second hand Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 20-Inch (Al) to replace my old white one. I understand that this is the oldest iMac to be able to handle Mavericks, but I have upgraded the RAM to 4GB just to be safe. I also bought myself a lovely HP W2207H Monitor that is HDMI input and, when on Snow Leopard before my upgrade yesterday, was a beautiful extended desktop with no issues whatsoever.
Since upgrading to Mavericks, the monitor has not been working properly; but it's not any of the other, well-documented issues that I have read already. The monitor doesn't flicker, it is recognized beautifully and the resolution is spot on the native...
Right now, for instance, the monitor is working fine. However, if I was to open a new Firefox tab, or open a new application on my iMac, the monitor would go black (not to sleep or shutting down as the light remains on) for two seconds or so. It seems as if the iMac is struggling with doing something and therefore cuts the monitor feed whilst it's doing the process I have just requested. Furthermore, the iMac's fans are running quite hard despite activity monitor showing the decreased usage as Mavericks promised!
For your information: Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.0GHz 20-Inch (Al) 4GB RAM connected to HP W2207H by Mini-SP to HDMI adaptor and HDMI Cable.
I wonder if anyone could help me solve this problem on Mavericks, or will I simply need to regrade down to Snow Leopard for optimal performance of the external display?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Mike

hey.. the display starts up with the imac...
I'm having trouble adusting the brightness on my cinema display...
hopefully get a answer today.. I have a 24" imac

  • App that handles pdf and .doc and .eml like Coverflow on steroids?

Is there an app that would let me basically scroll through a folder with the pdfs, Pages, and/or saved email visible at actual size (8 1/2 x 11) or some other realistically sized almost full screen method? As I new user I absolutely /love/ Coverflow but I am getting ready to dump a ton of pdf's and saved email correspondence (and likely .doc files) into a "portfolios and resumes" folder and I am starting to wonder if there is a more convenient way to organize and or /see/ this info.
Something that would give me a small Aperture-like sidebar and that let me see the docs at sizes of my choosing (like I do with images in Aperture) would be ideal. Is there such a critter?
I'd probably pay some good money for this so I thought I'd throw it out there on the hopes.
    THANKS.

So...there is no app for handwrite in a .doc or in a .pdf?????????
