Safari & Chrome lost ability to play flash videos

Everything was working fine on my 2013 macbook air until one day, no videos on any site will play (i.e. youtube, dailymotion, vimeo, etc). I have no idea why this happened or what I could have done to cause this but I have literally tried everything to fix this problem and nothing seems to work.
I have had this issue for about a few weeks now and I still haven't found a solution. Here are a few screenshots of what I'm experiencing in Chrome:
I can see the length of the video but all of them are stuck loading. Safari is also unable to load any videos.
Here is a list of what I have tried so far:
1) Uninstalling and re-installing flash player did not fix the problem
2) Deleting my cookies or cache files did not fix it either
3) Disabling all my extensions (i.e. Adblock, ghostery, etc.) unfortunately did not fix the problem either
4) I tried enabling and disabling a few of my plugins as noted in this thread here:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/ifL98iTMhPs%5B1-25-false%5 D
However, no combination of enabling or disabling the PPAPI or NPAPI seemed to work.
Here are some other strange things that I have noticed:
1) I am using TekSavvy's 25 Mbps cable internet with a D-Link DIR-815 router. My iPhone 5s and Windows laptop have no problems connecting to the internet and they have no problems playing videos. Even my iPhone can play youtube, dailymotion, or vimeo videos. My MBA is solely experiencing this video problem and yet it has no problems connecting to the internet. I have no problems viewing any websites; I just can't seem to get videos to play properly
2) All videos load perfectly fine if I tether off my LTE from my iPhone. All videos also load perfectly fine when I am connected to my friend's Rogers' 60 Mbps cable internet. Could it be that perhaps faster internet is the solution?
3) However, occasionally all videos play perfectly fine for only one day and revert back to not playing the day after. This seems to happen once a week.
4) Even more interesting, if I sign into my youtube account, I am able to play youtube videos. But I suspect that this has something to do with HTML5 being enabled by default in Chrome but I am uncertain.
All thoughts and ideas are welcome. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I really don't know what is causing this problem. Thank you!

Hi Carolyn, I'm not sure what you mean. HTML5 is enabled by default by Chrome. I do not see an option to "Use the Default Player". In fact there doesn't appear to be an option to switch to select any other player. Here is what I see:

    Dear All,
Firefox hangs when i try to play flash videos from any site but when i run firefox as administrator it works fine. (but Google Chrome, Opera & I.E9 Plays videos without running as administrator.) I am using Windows 7 & Firefox 7.0.1. Please help.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

    Repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the menu bar, quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If that didn't help, install the v10.5.8 combo update.

  • Cannot play Flash video in Chrome 64bit

I cannot play Flash videos in Facebook when I upgraded my Google Chrome on Windows 8.1 to the latest 64bit v.37 and Flash player to v.15 . The error message was "Can't load plug-in". I enabled Flash players in the plugin section, reinstall Chrome. Nothing worked until I "downgraded" my Google Chrome to 32bit. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Rebooted Windows and it is working. Note to self : It is good to reboot the system after a few weeks.

  • Firefox freezes while playing flash videos.

When i play flash videos Firefox freezes. frames is lagging but the sound is ok.

Can't anyone just make a FU$%&# browser that works? I do not understand why I have to come on a forum and try this...or maybe that...or wait maybe this... just to be able to do what a browser is supposed to do..BROWSE THE INTERNET!
I switched over to Firefox from Chrome because Shockwave kept crashing non-stop while trying to listen to music on Soundcloud and now I have another browser that does the same thing except worse as far as I'm concerned because I have to restart the whole program.
I guess I just don't understand how it can be this difficult to accomplish tasks that seem so trivial in nature...the internet has been around for quite a while now and technology is evolving ever faster by the day but for some reason it seems that the reliability of web browsers is decreasing just as fast in the opposite direction.
Please excuse my frustration......I just wanna be able to listen to a whole DJ mix just one time. Is that really too much to ask? I can't even believe that I might have to resort back to IE...oh man...I thought things were moving forward but apparently I have been looking in the rear view mirror this whole time

  • I can't get flash player to play flash videos

I just bought an 24" 2.16 Core 2 Duo iMac and migrated my accounts from my G4 PowerBook and G4 800mhz iMac.
I go to websites such as Jay Leno's garage and LeftLaneNews ( http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/11/17/ford-bold-moves-22-professional-drivers-o n-a-closed-course/#more-4422 ) and the Flash Player 9 videos don't play. No erros. It just acts like it is forever downloading them and ... nothing.
I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.8 and Safari. I found the Flash uninstall for Mac OS X on Adobe's website and ran that (with all browsers closed" then downloaded and re-installed Flash 9. It shows that Flash 9 successfully installed.

Just to make it clear. I still can play Flash videos.

  • Many websites will not play flash video

Really hoping for help with this.
Most sites won't play flash video (can't remember all of them, but they include BBC, CBC, & major online news & business sites). I don't think it's a site problem.
    [YouTube works].
Safari version is current. "Block pop-up windows" is off. Gimme Blocker is on. There are no extensions installed.
If there's other info to be provided, please LMK.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Follow the instructions for troubleshooting Flash here.
You may need to delete Flash cookies, instructions for that here.

  • No matter how many uninstalls and reinstalls Firefox 4 will not play flash videos w the latest flash plugin installed. What do I do to get flash videos to play like everyone esle can?

Trying to solve my non-playing flash videos wherever I surf in Firefox 401 w Flash plugin 10.2.159.1, such as CNN or anywhere really while surfing. Even at the Adobe web site I cannot play demo videos and I own CS4 Suite. I can play any YouTube video I select.
I surf in Firefox 401 w Flash plugin 10.2.159.1. Don't tell me to UNINSTALL then REINSTALL the flash player as I have done that too many times.
I logged out and logged into my clean account where I install nothing. No joy.
What the heck is the problem? No one else seems to have this problem as I am told many play CNN videos fine.

    Hi arpriltime,
Have you looked at our [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-crashes-or-flash-plugin-crashes Flash plugin troubleshooting section]? There is a lot of useful information in there that should help you get to the bottom of your issue.

  • R7950 TwinFrozr OC - stability issue playing flash video

After a day or so uptime, with some gaming, max gpu temp 55°C, idle 40°.
Had a driver crash - main monitor had a mess of gray noise, extended desktop not affected. Caused by playing flash video on youtube. Also occurred in online newspaper, but in that case killing flash plugin solved the problem. The second occurrence required hard reboot.
Had OC'd to 1050MHz gpu, 1575 dram, +10% power limit in Afterburner. Ran stable in multiple games (far cry 3, battlefield 3) as well as unigine heaven benchmark and 3dmark11 benchmark, as well as msi Kombustor burn-in test.
After reboot I found several events in eventvwr saying: "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
These messages appreared in the earlier event where reboot was not required.
The details of the warning follows:
    Quote
    - System
      - Provider
       [ Name]  Display
      - EventID 4101
       [ Qualifiers]  0

       amdkmdap
While the screen was garbled, I unplugged the main monitor to isolate the source; problem moved to secondary monitor. Concluded that output from card was the problem, not the monitor.
I have since reverted the card to stock OC, 880MHz, and tested flash video playback seems fine.
Is this an instability problem due to my OC or grounds to RMA the card?
I also shot a video of the event in case anyone is interested, but can't upload until I find my memory card reader.
Second thought edit: I'm using the reference driver, should I be using MSI's driver instead?
Edit 2: I reverted to the OC I had made, and flash video playback is working as it should. A confusing problem indeed, is there a bug in the driver?

    Quote
Could you please answer my question about whether it would make a difference to run MSI's branded driver versus reference?
MSI drivers are tested to works OK with the card, but you can try other drivers if you want.
If you have troubles with other drivers, its recommended to use MSI VGA drivers.

  • Safari does not recognize flash plug-in and will not play flash video

I use Safari as my go-to browser for web sites that would otherwise require me to turn off my several ad-block/flash-block plugIns for Firefox.  I do have it set to ask for permission ('Trust this site?') for every time I use flash on a new site (since I reset Safari regularly and clear all cookies every time I close it this means every time, every site, it asks).  New problem started sometime in the past week:  Safari is returning a 'download flash' icon on some videos on some web sites--but on others it correctly goes through the 'trust this site to use flash?' routine and when I click 'trust now' it plays the video normally.  Trying to figure out if this is a Safari problem, flash problem, or web site problem.  How can Safari both recognize that flash is being asked for (that's why it shows me the 'download flash now' icon, right?) and not recognize that it has flash installed?
    Safari Version 7.0.4 (9537.76.4)

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
If the warning persists, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
    Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
    Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
    Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • Safari wont play flash videos...

I use firefox and safari and both are having this problem. When there is a flash video to be played, youtube for instance, Safari shows a quicktime Q with a ? mark in the middle of it. I have reinstalled and updated flash multiple times now and that fixes the problem very temporarily but it always goes back to the Q with the ? mark in the middle of it. I have updated quicktime, I have flip for mac and have updated that, I have tried using quicktime to view flash and I've tried using flip for mac to view the flash, neither work. I have updated versions of both browsers and I am at a loss for words.....please help!

    Hi
    Two things
First, "repair permissions" using Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
Second, go to System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced and select "enable flash". Also, select "mime settings". When the panel opens, click on Miscellaneous. Uncheck Flash Media.
Restart Safari and try the Flash sites again.
