Safari clearing history, website data, and cookies

I guess I'm trying to find out how to tell the developers of Yosemite to go backwards and allow us to clear history without losing all the website data and cookies. In Maverick, at the end of the day, I cleared my history, and it only cleared my browsing history; I didn't have to sign in again on all the sites I visit. Yosemite is working fine for me except for this one issue. I believe we users should have the option of clearing just the browsing history, and letting us choose to clear website data and cookies. Any ideas on this?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • In IOS 7 some web pop ups freeze, I can only resume safari if I delete data and cookies from the safari settings

I recently installed IOS 7 and I getting used to the new feel.  However, I have encounted a problem at least three times now.  If I am shopping and a web message pops up, such as "you must select size before quantity" or "you have exceeded the number of items" there is a box that displays "ok" for you to acknowledge the mistake and continue.  In IOS 7, the pop ups freeze, I am not able to click "ok" and make the dialog box go away.  My only solution so far is to go to settings -- safari-- clear data and cookies.  Any help or insight would be appreciated!

    My iPad also experiences this.

  • How Can I delete website data and cookies?

Today, I had to wipeout my harddrive and lost everthing I had on it. I wanted to get microsoft back, so my friend was doing some "torrent" thing...which didn't work but the websites were sketchy and I think it messed up my safari. Now, on anywebsite this add always pops up in the bottom right corner and when I pull up google there are adds for **** websites. I have gone to safari preferences and deleted the website data but right after I delete it it comes back again. Help!!!

    Reset Safari.

Running OS 10.5.8 on Macbook.  Safari set to clear history Manually, but it periodically clears automatically.  How can I stop this?  I checked OnyX - only for 10.7 and above.  Thanks.
If you are referring to Onyx (maintenenace utility), you need Onyx for Leopard >  http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx
    v10.7 is Lion.
    As for Safari - History.
Launch Onyx then select Cleaning from the menu then select the Internet tab.
    Deselect:  Browser History

  • On my mini ipad, I cleared the cookies/histories in the safari setting.  But what does the advance-setting of the clearing the website data does?  What's that used for? Thank you!

On my mini ipad, when I'm on the internet -- a few times I will see a blue small pop-up boxes telling me to allow down/load or add something like the bubble-splash game or something similar.  I jusr click ignore and it goes away.. I'm not sure why it's showing up lately.. I'm not sure if it's a virus or hacked in or a web brower matter..
Should I go to the cookies/histories in the safari setting and have it cleared out?  Will that help resolve that??
And what does the advance-setting of the clearing the website data does?  Sorry, I'm not familiar.. what's is that used for? Should I use that feature as well?? Thank you!

    This indicates corrupt files.
    A restore should resolve.

  • Safari bug regarding "Website Data"

I've run into a bug with Safari on iOS 6 with my 4th generation iPad where performance noticeably degrades after a certain amount of time using Safari. It becomes noticeable when multiple tabs no longer hold their information so that when you go back to a tab it has to reload the site page data. This will occur even with just a two or three tabs. Another symptom, and the one that caught my attention first, is when scrolling up and down through pages images do not smoothly come into view but have to partially reload causing like a snapping movement as you scroll through images on the page. It's more noticeable the faster you scroll.
Those two symptoms seemed to point to a memory issue in Safari so I tried closing the app completely and restarting it with no success. I also tried restarting the iPad and still no success. All that was left that I could do was to try deleting "History" and "Cookies and Data" in Safari's settings. Again, no success. Then I went into "Advanced" on the same settings screen and under that option you have "Website Data" and the option to view and delete that data. So, I deleted all of it and shazam, success! Safari then worked smoothly with the fastest scrolling showing images and pages as they should when scrolling and many tabs then being able to be open without them being blanked out.
It's still apparently a memory issue though that is somehow tied into "Website Data," which is strange because that data is very tiny in size for all sites. The issue is not progressive in appearance as it activates randomly. In other words, one moment the browser is working just fine and then it isn't. It has nothing to do with how long you use Safari. It also doesn't have anything to do with the amount of "Website Data" but looks to be the data from specific sites since the bug will pop up with just a handful of site's in "Website Data" and at other times when there are a lot more sites listed.
Anyway, this bug has been reported to Apple Feedback and I just wanted to share it with the forum for others that are experiencing the same thing and have not been able to resolve the issue. The solution of deleting all "Website Data" is 100% repeatable and 100% resolves the issue. Safari performance is completely restored.

Just wanted to add that I have just reproduced the same issue when there was no "Website Data" stored. I closed Safari and then cleared history and cookies and data and it was back to normal, unlike the first time I encountered it when doing that did nothing until I deleted "Website Data." So there seems to be some connection in resolving the issue as "Website Data" may needs to deleted or empty to begin with before deleting history and cookies and data has any effect.
Again, it looks like some kind of memory issue affecting Safari that when doing the steps I described it releases memory in some way.

  • HT1677 What is website data and why am I storing it?

In Safari advanced settings I have 14MB of website data.  Some entries have a large amount of data such as mail.google.com with 4.3 MB.  Google Mail in Safari is web based and I have no offline content except 1 small unread message in my inbox.  My contacts are not available when wifi or mobile is not connected so what is the "Webdata" and what would I delete if I deleted it?

Its not different. Clearing Cookies and Data in one fell swoop from the settings clears all of it at once. You also have the option of clearing cookies or any of the website data individually in the Advanced settings.
If you were having a problem with one particular website, you could go into the Advanced settings and clear the data for just that one site if you wanted to do so, or clear the data for selected websites. When you do it from the Clear Cookies and Data setting - you clear all of it at once, for all websites that you have visited.

  • Is Website Data and Freq. Visited Accurate?

My partner is very offended by **** yet he has at least 6 on his website data and had a site (KindGirls) on his frequently visited sites show up.  He denies all of it though I said it was best to admit rather than not.  He is very against all of that (he says) and doesn't know why they are in the website data or showing up as frequently visited. He's only had phone 2 months or so and laptop is windows so icloud sharing. He does use google and has a gmail account.  Is he being truthful or is there any chance it is not accurate?  All my website data history is accurate on all devices.

  • Rest Safari/remove all website data

I thought I was clever and creating a faster way to delete all cookies as opposed to having to navigate all the way into -
    Safari/preferences/privacy/remove all website data/remove now
    Instead I set up -
Safari/reset safari/remove all website data (the only checked box)/remove
    It worked - ONCE.
Now it won't work again.  Strange.
    Safari Version 6.0.1 (7536.26.14)/
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Ideally - a keyboard shortcut - or one click "trash all cookies" macro would be great.

    Hi..
You can select Ask websites to not track me in Safari > Preferences > Privacy

  • Safari grid mode view date and time

When looking at the Safari grid screen, can date and time be added to each of the 24 websites shown so you can see when you last visited it?
I would like this to be added by Apple in a future release of Safari.

Please submit a feedback to Apple.

  • Clearing browser pushed content and cookies...not effective

I use my BB browser for buying stuff of the internet. As added protection I log out faithfully and clear my browser cache operations and history constantly. I've also unenabled push content on my Browser push. When I go to a website, after I've cleared every thing, the home page comes up with my country !!!!! How can this company still know where I'm from if all history and caches have cleared from my browser and I should be starting with a clean slate ? How can Big Brother still be watching me... ?

Since you already tried the clear Cache and Youtube cookie trick.
Try making the youtube url as http'''s''':// if a youtube video is still giving the black screen.
It is apparently a issue with Youtube as people with other browsers are getting the same. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?hl=en&tid=3cda4dac122b8f13

"Finally, does anyone know about problems with connecting a Windows iPod to a Mac"
The only issue you should encounter when using an iPod in this manner is that Windows cannot read a Mac formatted iPod without the use of some add on 3rd party software. Windows cannot read the HFS+ file system that Macs use.
However, if you were to use a Windows formatted on a Mac, it should work just fine because Macs can natively read the FAT 32 system that Windows uses.
"a while back when she hooked her Mac-format iPod to the friend's Windows computer. Through some process that none of them could describe accurately, it reformated her Mac iPod for Windows."
I suspect what happened is that when the Mac formatted iPod was connected to the Windows computer, a warning message appeared stating that the iPod needed to be formatted. I have my doubts that this reformat process occurred entirely on it's own!
