• I have Firefox 4.0.1 on Windows xp and the toolbar is overlaying the address bar;also some windows (such as this one) are not displayed correctly.

When I start Firefox and if I close and then reopen it the address bar is fine. But when I go the a new address, the menu bar overlays the address bar. Also a small number of pages, such as this one are overlayed with some garbage which is other parts of the page. This page is overlayed with "Ask a New Question" over and over again. That does not go away with I close and then reopen the page. It is overlaying this box, so i can barely see what I am writing. There are probably many tbold text

Ubuntu may have moved those three button as well to that control bar.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

• TS1702 When using safari as soon as I enter the cursor in the google search box the key board drops down and re-appears and is then usable?

When using google with Safari as soon as I enter the cursor in the text box the key board drops down, when re-entered it is fine and useable?

Post a screenshot please. Are those regular Short Answer Question slides or custom quesiton slides? To which master slide did you add the shortcut, because I don't even know which one is used for Short Answer, it is not mentioned in the master slide titles. There is a master slide for Hot Spot, one for Matching, one for Likert and one for MCQ/TF/FIB/Sequence. I suppose the last one is also used for Short Answer but never checked it. Reason is that for short answer I never use the default question slide, because it is so limited for validation: you cannot use 'contain' to check the answer.
I don't know of any way to have the focus immediately in the Answer Area, sorry

• Since switching to Firefox 4 I'm unable to access a web page by pressing "Enter" after typing the url in the address bar; I now have to click on the bar; how do I change things so that I can go back to a keyboard shortcut?

I use keyboard shortcuts whenever possible but since updating to Firefox 4 I can no longer access a web page simply by pressing "Enter" after typing the url in the address bar. Can I get back to this useful shortcut somehow and avoid having to fiddle with a mouse?

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes

• Why can't I just press ENTER to go to the page when I have the complete URL typed into the address bar?

I dunno; maybe I'm just crazy, but I'd swear that before I downloaded FF4, I used to be able to (1) type in a complete URL, or (2) type a partial URL or keyword and choose what I wanted from a drop-down of recent URLs, then hit ENTER to be taken to the page I was looking for--all in the address bar, without having to use my mouse to click the little curly arrow at the right end of the address bar (next to the "favorite" star).

BINGO! SOLVED IT!! It was that rotten AVG safe search. Bravo, and thank you, TonyE! (I often suspect I'm losing my marbles; glad to know that this time it was a false alarm;)

• Why are URLs not saved in the address bar immediately upon typing?

This might be a tricky one to explain so please bear with me.
Sometimes, when I click on a link or type an address, the page will fail to load for any number of reasons. However, when this happens, sometimes Firefox doesn't save the URL of the page I attempted to visit in its address bar. Instead, the address bar is either blank or shows "about:blank". This means that hitting the Refresh button does nothing (since Firefox thinks there is no URL to refresh!).
Another symptom of this problem is if you open a link in a new tab (or window), then immediately attempt to bookmark the page while it is still loading. Say, for example, a page is taking a bit too long to load and you decide to bookmark it for later viewing. It turns out that what you're actually bookmarking is - again - the URL "about:blank".
This is incredibly frustrating behaviour. My expectation as a user is that *the moment you click or type a URL, that URL should be concretely cemented into the address bar*, and even if the page fails to load, takes a long time, or other problems occur, the refresh button should always work, the bookmark function should always work, and the window or tab should *always* have a concrete "identity" of that URL you clicked or typed.
Does this make sense?

I'm using Firefox 22 on Windows 7 64-bit, by the way.
You can very easily replicate this "bug" (or "feature"... ahem) by shift-clicking any hyperlink which opens up a new Firefox window. Immediately hit the "stop" button to stop the page from loading.
If you're fast enough, the address bar will be completely empty and you can't "refresh" or try again or anything.
In my opinion, the URL should be placed into the address bar the very moment that new window opens. I'd appreciate an explanation of why this is not already the case and if it will or will not be the case in the future.

• I use to be able to enter a URL and hit enter and Firefox would go to that site. Now I must hit the arrow in the address bar to go to the web page. How can I change that back

I can no longer just hit enter to go to a web page. Now I have to hit the arrow on the right side of the address bar.

There is a known issue for Firefox 10 on Windows. It involves AVG Safe Search making the "Enter" key not work in the Location/URL bar. AVG needs to fix the problem with their Add-on for Firefox.

• When I open Safari on my iPad 2 and browse for a while, when I close safari on the background home of the iPad if leaves the imprint of the address bar at the top and down the side of my home background!?

Ok so,
When I open safari on my iPad 2 and browse for a while, when I close safari on my background of the home if leaves the address bar imprint and also down the side of the background it leaves white lines from the web browser. I've also noticed it when using various apps aswell. It's not just safari. I've also tryed different background images and it still does it!
Any help?
Thanks Natalie

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

• My enter key doesn't work in the address bar so I can't manually enter URLs

This is actually on my wife's computer but, apparently she recently upgraded to 3.6.13 and now the enter key doesn't work in the address bar. I can enter a URL but can never go to it because the enter key is totally non functional in the address bar. Chrome works fine and other apps work fine. The enter key works here in this text box and in the search area but not in the address bar. Weird huh!

In my Windows 7 64, my Java was update, but dissabling AVG search and restarting the problem was solved
Thanks a lot

• I can no longer use the address bar to change websites. I can block text with the mouse and input a new URL but when I hit the enter key or left click on the right arrow it has no effect and the page does not change.

Also Ctrl+Enter no longer adds www+.com to words entered in the address bar. I can use bookmarks to change to other web sites or my password manager. Re-booting my laptop makes no difference. Please help.

Hey CaptRobyn,
Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. It might be related to an extension. Then you should read Troubleshooting extensions and themes.
Hopefully this helps!

• Url does not show up in address bar...and when i type in a search box, the cursor jumps up to the address bar automatically

I'm not sure what happened. However, I can never see the URL in the address bar anymore.
I go from page to page, and the URL shows only for a split second, then disappers.
All the address bar says is "Search or enter address"
I copy and paste a lot of URL links for work, so this makes it very painful and a hassle now.
Where now i need to go back, right click on a link, and do "copy link location".
Where as i used to just go up to the address bar and copy the URL.
Also, I notice now when I start typing on certain search boxes.
The cursor automatically jumps to the URL address bar as soon as I start typing. Which is really annoying.
It will only do it once it seems....but its annoying when i try to type a search...only to see that i've been typing in the URL address box cus it jumped up there.
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Try some basic troubleshooting.
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>
