Safari completely locks

When I open safari, it locks up and locks up my Mac. Ive narrowed it down to just safari. I've removed all the plug ins, but it still locks up.
I ran disk warrior to repair permissions and files, and it still locks up.
I also have three users on my mbp, and it happens to all three. What else can I try? Firefox is working fine.

HI,
have three users on my mbp, and it happens to all three.
Boot from your install disc to check the startup disk for errors.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space.*
If Disk Utility reports the startup disk is ok, and there's plenty of free disk space, if Safari has actually crashed, see if you can locate a crash report.
Crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.
Copy/paste the entire report in your reply.

  • Safari is locked how do I unlock it

I was surfing on the IPad last night and for some reason the screen locked.  I can get into and change the address line, but everything below it is kind of grayed out.  Can't click on anything. Can't bring up a new screen.  Can't get into bookmarks....nothing.  What happened and how do I fix it?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Safari will lock up on my MacBook Pro. Force quit doesn't help. When I try to restart the computer, I get an error saying Safari cancelled the restart. I have to press the power button to shut down the computer.

While I'm using safari,  it will freeze up. When I force quit safari and reopen it, I find that I'm back to where I was when I did the force quit and safari remains locked up. When I try to restart the computer, I get a pop up that says that safari cancelled my restart. I then press the power button to shut down the computer. When I reboot the computer and open safari, I see all the tabs and windows that were opened when this issue began, only this time safari isn't frozen. This problem started yesterday.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there a fix for this problem?

Try Resetting Safari: Open Safari. Cick on the name Safari in the menu bar. In the drop down menu click Reset Safari.

  • Power Mac G4 MDD 1.25GHz DP often completely locks up in the first few minutes after booting, sometimes with the spinning beach ball, normally with a very high pitched whining noise.

Over the last few months my Mac has developed a worrying habit.
Within the first few minutes of starting it up (perhaps on average about 50% of the time) it will completely lock up. This may happen at the Log In screen (if I start up the Mac & then leave it for a while) or during normal use.
Often the first symptom is a very high pitched (but quiet) whining noise that seems to come from the loud speaker on the front of the Mac. The pointer may freeze at this point, or it may still be moveable for 5 or 10 seconds before it freezes. It sometimes turns into the spinning beach ball during this. Once locked up the only way I can restart the Mac is to hold down the power button on the front for a few seconds to completely reboot the machine.
Once the Mac has restarted, it usually behaves normally, almost always for the rest of the day. The initial lock up & resulting restart only normally seem to happen the first time I use the Mac that day.
The only peripherals attached to the Mac (apart from the display, keyboard & mouse) are an ADSL modem, a USB printer and a pair of Apple Pro speakers, and this setup hasn't changed since long before the problems started, so I'm confident that I can discount the peripherals causing problems. I doubt that unplugging the speakers, for example, would have any effect.
I've run Disc Utility, OnyX and DiscWarrior without anything major cropping up. My instincts (I've been troubleshooting Mac problems for 16 years) tell me that I have a fundamental hardware problem, possibly with one of the 4 RAM DIMMs installed.
The RAM configuration is shown in the attached screen grab.
I'm considering removing one DIMM, running with 1.5GB of RAM rather than 2GB for a while, and repeating with a different DIMM removed each time until I can hopefully isolate the dodgy DIMM.
Do people feel this is a sensible approach, or should I try something else first?
    Many thanks.

Sometimes visual inpection will show bulging tops/sides., my guess is if it is it's most likely in the PSU.
Possible cheap fix, You can convert an ATX PSU for use on a G4...

  • How do i use and iphone with the ios7 if the phone is completely locked and i dont know the previous owner?

how do i fix a phone that is completly locked bc of the ios7? i dont know the previous ower? and i dont know if the phone is stollen.

You don't get it to work. You can not bypass the activation lock. Do you not know who you bought it from? Talk to them. If they can't give you the credentials to unlock it, get your money back. The phone is useless.

  • Every time when Firefox is minimized and I tab into it I can't use it. It's completely locked. Is there a way to fix this?

Every time when Firefox is minimized to the tray and I open it up again i can't use it until I click on a tab that's not focused or on the search field with the mouse. It's completely locked, I can't press ctrl+1/2/3 etc to change tab or ctrl+e to go to search. Last time everything worked like it should was on release 3.5.14
Is there a way to fix this?
Edit: I've tried reinstalling Firefox and gotten a new profile, that didn't help.
Edit2: Updated to 3.6.9 and I still have the problem.
Edit3: Just installed 3.6.11, the problem is still there.
I can't understand how 3.5.14 can work and not a singel release after that.
    Opera here I come, soon...

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
If still problem that indicates you have a bad headphone jack.

  • My HP 2210 printer has completely locked up

My HP 2210 printer has completely locked up, all lights are on, not blinking, and no response from any buttons.  Only message I get is no printer connected...help...please!

    Hello,
If you pull out the power cord from the rear of the printer and then reconnect it, does it go to the same error state?
If you have this plugged into a power strip, connect it directly to a wall outlet.
    Thank you
    I was an HP employee.
Kudos are appreciated if I have helped you.

  • Did anyone notice: Safari completely ignores printer margins

    Hi,
I'm trying to print some labels through Safari. My printer driver works fine. All I have to do is adjust the printer margins in Safari.
I'm creating a new custom size and add the margin default values of my label printer (0,2 cm). I can save the settings without problems but neither the preview on the left nor the printed labels show any changes in the margins. Safari completely ignores custom margin settings and keeps it's default settings when printing.
I've tried all day googling for a solution, but there is none. My question: has anyone experienced the same issue? Is there any sort of bugfix? I'm sure it has nothing to do with my printer. I can create a PDF with the same margin problems...
    HELP PLEASE!

    Cheers,
this is how I tried so far:
    1) Open website
    2) CMD+P opens print dialogue
    3) Select custom paper size (in my case 2.9cm x 8.98 cm)
3a) Within the custom paper size dialogue I can select default margins for my printer or set my own (I tried both without difference)
    4) OK
    5) The preview on the left does NOT change the margins. Also the PDF preview and the printed result look exactly the same. The margins stay the same throughout.
    Here is a screenshot:

Maybe that helps!? I don't know what to do anymore... Does the margin adjustment work fine for you??

  • Safari often locks up when trying to load from a certain site

Certain pages in my county government website cause safari to lock up. I pretty much have this problem only on the county website and only on certain pages. Happens regardless of pop-up blocker status or cookie acceptance. Any suggestions?

Ok.... in that case, boot from your install disc. Run Disk Utility in case there are errors on the startup disk that need repairing.
*Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*

  • I have a new MacBook Pro and every time I open Safari it locks up???

I have a new MacBook Pro and every time I open Safari it locks up???

Okay, then you have made a whole bunch of trouble for yourself. First, download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
and then you can manually remove as many bits of PSE as you can find. Not only the application itself, but also in hard drive>library>application support>adobe. And go to your username>library>preferences and delete everything there pertaining to PSE. That library is hidden. To see it, click the Go menu in the Finder and hold down the Option key and it will appear below the little house for your user account.
Then go here to download the installer and install it from scratch. You can never move an installed copy of PSE (except for the app store version):
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 9, 8, 7

  • When in mail, opening it in Safari, it locks up.  Why is this happening

When in mail, opening it up in Safari,, it locks up.  Why is this happening?  The only way to unlock is to go to Settings>mail> load remote images and turn off.  Then turn off wi-fi and turn it back on.  Then go to mail and it is back to normal.  Why would this be locking up.  RDH

If this is happening in Safari like you say, this might help as well.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
