Safari CPU scheduling problems

When I open a tab but remain on the current tab, Safari grind to a halt while the background tab loads. This is NOT a CPU load problem, for I am monitoring the CPU and there is plenty (I am on a G4, so not even clumsy limits to a single core can excuse).
Things like right-clicking another link to create a new tab takes an age, as does scrolling, which often invokes the beachball. It is as if the foreground page is subordinate to the background tabs.
This is unacceptable and no excuses outside of bad programming.
Anyone else see this?

I had the Safari problem in terms of it getting hung up while loading web addresses and had to go through diagnostics every time I moved the laptop from office network to home instead of it switching automatically. How do I tell if Little Snitch is still there? I can see it in the download queue, but no where else. Also, even tho I have to switch manually to the office network and Safari is slow, at least I stay online here without Safari stopping or getting error messages, which makes me wonder if my router is messed up and contributing to problems. I have reset and unplugged my home router with no apparent effect. Sally

  • My solution (or so I thought) to Power Manager/CPU throttling problems!!!

I have found a solution to all my Power Manager/CPU throttling problems!!! Though there is some good and bad news.
    {EDIT: The problem has NOT been fixed, even after latest PowerManager (3.62) and BIOS (1.30) versions. Pretty much ignore anything I say below as the problem is still occurring. You can see my full post here: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W520-Speedstep-not-working-properly-on-battery-...}
Good news:  I have NONE of the throttling issues or inconsistent CPU frequency problems I was having before on AC or battery power.  Everything, including TurboBoost on battery works! It is completely fixed! (I have no idea how this factors into Lenovo’s statements that TurboBoost is disabled on battery “by design”. There is at least one other post from someone else that also reported TurboBoost was working for them on battery)
Bad news: I don’t really know which one of the many things I tried actually worked. I am sorry I wasn’t more methodical about recording what I did and checking results, but this was my last ditch effort to get this fixed on my own without sending the system in for repair and frankly, I didn’t think it would work. Now that it has worked, I’m hoping my steps can help others.
For anyone interested, here’s what I did… and before anyone says something like “That has nothing to do with managing power/cpu, why would that help?!… etc., please keep in mind I’m just stating exactly what I did. I am aware some of the steps may not be relevant, but who knows… We all know how weird PC’s are sometimes, even the smallest, oddest thing may resolve a problem. So anyway, here goes.
**IMPORTANT** Not sure how many noticed, but there was a new version of Power Manager released a few weeks ago, 3.62. The PM driver seems to have stayed the same. That alone could very well be the sole fix, I’m not sure. You may just want to completely remove PM and PM driver and install the latest version before trying any of the steps below.
1)Made a complete system image via Windows built-in backup feature
2)Disable any 3rd party fan/CPU control utilities (Throttlestop, etc). Make sure they are also not going to run at startup or from a   scheduled task
3)Remove Power Manager Driver, then remove Power Manager software
    4)Reboot to Windows
5)Remove all traces of the Power Manager drivers/software directories (think it was something like C:\readyapps and C:\drivers.) **For some odd reason after I did this, my wireless stopped working but it resolved itself by the time I was done with these steps, strange
    6)Reboot
7)Access BIOS and reset all settings to default
8)Boot into Windows, downgrade to BIOS 1.25 [UEFI: 1.25 - 8BET44WW / ECP: 1.14 8AHT32WW ]  via the Windows flash utility. I wanted to downgrade all the way back to 1.06, but the software would throw up some error for any version prior to 1.25 and wouldn’t proceed
9)Reboot to Windows; make sure system booted w/ out issues
10)Reboot again, access BIOS, reset to defaults again
    11)Shut down system
12)Disconnect AC power. Remove main battery. Access and disconnect system backup (a.k.a CMOS) battery under keyboard. Discharge residual power in the system (there are various ways to do this, but you could just leave the battery disconnected for a few minutes).  Visually inspect the system for anything funky…my system had a slightly but noticeably loose CPU/GPU heat sink/fan assembly power connector.
    13)Reconnect backup battery.
14)Reconnect AC power but leave main battery disconnected.
15)Power on. Should get a message indicating “checksum error, system time reset” or something like that.
16)Reboot to Windows. Verified still okay.
17)Downloaded latest BIOS version, 1.26. This time I burned the bootable BIOS flash CD instead of running it through Windows.
18)Restart and boot from disc, flash BIOS to 1.26. Once complete, restart. Verify BIOS set to defaults.
    19)Boot back into Windows.
20)Install latest Power Manager driver (1.62 ), reboot if/as prompted. Install Power Manager (3.62), reboot as prompted.
21)Boot into Windows, verified Power Manager was active and working. Verified TurboBoost was working. Restarted system a few times and played around with Power Manager for a bit to see if the different power plans worked and retained the settings, all the while monitoring the Intel TurboBoost utility and PM’s own “power gauges”. Let system Sleep, changed power sources, resumed, etc. Everything was working great.
22)Shutdown, reconnect main battery. Booted into Windows. Again, fiddled with Power Manager for a bit, switching between power plans and AC/battery power. Still worked great.
    23)Success!
That’s it.  Again, this is not a guaranteed fix guide. These are just simply the steps that I took on my system that resolved the problems many of us are having. Hopefully it will work for others.

All I basically did was download and install...
    (Chipset driver) http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/oss924ww.exe
    (PM driver)  http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/83ku14ww.exe
Now, I did chipset first (didnt ask to reboot) then installed the PM driver (did ask to reboot)
I rebooted.... then I went into bios (1.26) and set everything to default... then restarted saving changes...
Since I prefer not using optimus I changed the display settings in bios right after saving the default settings...
Not sure whether or not you really had to go into bios... but everything seems to be working...
My settings in PM is set to Maximum Power in the Advanced tab,  3rd party monitoring tools is TPFanControl and HWInfo64....

  • Servlet CPU Scheduling

    Using Weblogic 5.1 SP3 under Solaris 2.7
We are using the native Performance Pack which allocates 3 Posix readers
              can
we or should we tune this???
We have an unusual situation where we want to essentially do an long
              running
post so we can stream data back to a client much like a file transfer.
What we are seeing is that depending on the number of Execute Threads we
              see the first
say 12 Clients - (Using Execute Thread Count 15) start and we dont see
              our other
say 288 clients until each of our 12 clients are almost finished
              processing.
It would appear that the cpu allocation timeslice is not switiching
between concurrent http clients effectively if the servlets are long
              running.
Is there some tunning which can be done to change this???
I know this is an unusual situation but given the nature of
firewalls/proxyservers/load balancing hardware like ArrowPoint,F5 etc we
need to try to use http vs native
t3 protocol out to our clients who will be both jfc and web based.
Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Albert, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Firefox was working on my new iMac but then, after switching on recently, won't connect to the web – whereas Safari has no problem.

    ===
    Hi
I bought an iMac a week ago and installed Firefox via Safari. It worked fine for a while but, after a recently switching on, it won't connect to the web whereas Safari has no problems.
I've tried following the Firefox Help, looking into the iMac firewall, but still no luck.
I've no idea whether related or not but yesterday I had a system glitch where the iMac stated no wi-fi was installed and only connected via a physical lead to my house router. Also, there was no sound output via Safari. However, after booting up today all seems well – apart from Firefox still not working. It loads the start page but can't access the web.
I have Little Snitch running, and wonder if that's the culprit... but it's working fine with Safari, seemingly.
(Finally, how do I stop a dialogue box appearing on start-up saying that "To open “X” you need a Java runtime. Would you like to install one now?)
    Any ideas anyone?
    Cheers

On the wireless networks that your Mac has had trouble connecting to, do you know which Wireless Security type (WEP, WPA, or WPA2) is being used?
If it is WEP, one of the problems is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.   In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice versa.   You may find the following Apple Support article helpful.

  • Production Orders: Scheduling Problem

    Hello
I have a scheduling problem.  I want the system to calculate the production order dates.
    I have maintained the following
    1.      Work Center:  A formula to calculate the duration.  I have marked the u201Crelevant to finite indicatoru201D in the Capacity Header Tab.  I have also maintained the available capacity as 24 Hrs.
    2.     Routing:  I have maintained the values for the standard value keys
    3.     SPRO:  In scheduling parameters for the order type, I have marked u201CGenerate cap requirementsu201D and u201CSchedulingu201D;  In the production scheduling profile, I have marked u201CSchedule orderu201D (on release) & u201CFinite Schedulingu201D (Availability check).
But the production order is not getting scheduled & the start & end times are the same.  I get the error u201CNo req/capacity exists or not relevant for finite schedulingu201D.
Can anyone guide me as to what I am missing?
    Best regards

    Dear Tom,
    Please check following;
    1. Your operation contol key; whether it allows scheduling.
    2. scheduling parameters for production order on OPU3: Please select proper combination of plant and order type and tick scheduling and generate capacity requts indicators in detailed scheduling tab.

  • Windows 2008 R2 CPU Scheduling

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Vmware VM running one application published by Citrix. I noticed the CPU usage spiked to 100% while doing an EDI export to MS Excel 2010. I increased the CPU cores by one totaling 1 Socket 6 cores. Now core 0 is higher than the other
5 consistently. After contacting vmware I was told to ask Microsoft about CPU  scheduling. Not sure where to go from here to balance out the processes amongst all the cores. The only difference between this server and the rest is in Performance Options
this server is set to Let Windows choose what's best for my computer instead of Adjust for best performance.

You can also tune the priority of CPU shares through Windows System Resource Manager (WSRM), an optional server feature used for managing processor and  memory usage. WSRM's new built-in policy Weighted_Remote_Sessions can be used to assign users and
groups into three priorities: Premium, Standard, and     Basic. As should be obvious, users in higher priorities will be given greater CPU shares than those in lower priorities.

  • Safari load image problem with iMac Intel core

I got my new iMac 20" Intel core and system updated everything. I found that Safari cannot load image in my web photo album ( http://fotop.net/nicknick ), all image became "?".
I can load this page correctly with FireFox and Opera Browser. I also try the iMac 17" PowerPC in my office with the latest version Safari, it also load the album correctly. And I know this web is created and store in a Linux server, the web page coding not written or optimized to IE.
I've try to reinstall the whole OS X, nothing else installed, the same problem occurred.
Is it the problem on Intel core? or any setting I can do to overcome it?
Hope the problem could be solve, I like to use Safari except this problem.
iMac 20" Intel core   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well... no - except to ask if your intel imac is connected to the internet in exactly the same way as the ppc imac. If it is, then that's puzzling
You're right, I'm puzzled by the imac.
    Intel imac is at my home, ppc imac is at my office;
both using same ISP but different service plan,
(home:) PPPoE, ADSL modem -> buffalo MIMO wireless router -> intel imac (both direct wire or wireless connect have same result)
(office:) fixed-ip, ADSL modem -> firewall -> Linksys wireless router -> ppc imac (wireless)
both network setting with manual assigned IP, gateway and same DNS
Same result occurred when (1)open box new machine, (2)after updated system, (3)reinstall whole OS with preserve the old setting, (4)reinstall whole OS with erase the whole harddisk option, (5)updated system after the reinstallation.
I firstly think may be some security setting in imac that blocked the images, but can't found out. I secondly think some html code at this web not work on Safari.
May someone with same machine help to open this web to see if all intel imac get the same result?

  • Hyperthreaded CPU Scheduling via Hyper-V

I searched forums and documents (and books) all over for this answer pertaining to Hyper-V.
When a guest VM is assigned 2 virtual CPUs with 100% reservation on a Hyper-V host with a processor featuring hyper-threading, does the guest VM receive guaranteed access to two
physical cores or two logical cores?  For a thought experiment, on a single socket 2-core processor with hyper threading (4 logical cores), from my understanding Hyper-V takes physical core 0 by default leaving a single
physical core for VMs.  What would be the result of configuring a VM with 2 virtual CPUs on this host with 100% reservation?  Would you be allowed to?  Would the vCPU scheduling be across two logical processors or would the VM fail to start
because it requires two physical cores?

    Hi Nickmeister,
"So,a virtual machine’s CPU count means the maximum number of threads that it is allowed to operate on physical cores at any given time. I can’t set that virtual machine to have more than two vCPUs because the host only has two CPUs. Therefore,
there is nowhere for a third thread to be scheduled. But, if I had a 24-core system and left this VM at 2 vCPUs, then it would only ever send a maximum of two threads up to the hypervisor for scheduling. Other threads would be kept in the guest’s thread scheduler
(the supervisor), waiting their turn. "
Based on my understanding , we can image the procedure of physical cpu processing  can be divided to alot of
time slices ,  more than one thread can be scheduled/switched to be processed by a processor/core .
Hope the following article is helpful to you regarding to CPU reserve in hyper-v :

safari is having problem loading messages in gmail. When using other browsers, there is no problem loading and viewing the messages. What is going on? please help!

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.

  • Why does Safari have a problem loading images on some websites?

Safari has a problem loading pages properly or images on certain websites. Apple.com is one of the websites. On my way in here this time it didnt load any images on the front page. I emptied my cache and reloaded the page but that didnt help. Clicked on a broken image that took me to the proper page but without any images. Clicked on a different broken image on to the page and the images load no problem. Click back to the home page images load problem. Clicked on in to support forums and posted this topic.

    Hi all,
I occasionally see messages telling me that my software won't let me see the HTML version of an email, but it's there on the page when I open it. This happens mostly with emails from Apple, but have also had a similar message from a few of the photography mags that I subscribe to.
For my part, I just ignore it. It won't go away, but I just don't let it bother me.

  • RDS CPU Scheduling for 2012 R2

Seeing as the Windows System Resource Manager was removed from 2012 R2 how do admins prevent a user’s session from killing a server CPU wise?
The big culprit is web browsers Internet Explorer and Google Chrome

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For your case, I can suggest you to use Fairshare CPU Scheduling option. With this feature, if more than one user is logged on a system, processing time is limited for a given user based on the number of sessions and their loads. You can GPO setting “Turn off
Fair Share CPU Scheduling” option and other registry setting for this. Please check below article for information.

  • CPU Scheduling and BarGraphs

    Hey there :) ,
I have wrote a code which include FCFS, SJF, RR, and priority scheduling algorithm for CPU scheduling. Now what exactly my code does is it calculates the average waiting time for each algorithm. What i wanted to do is to show the result in a comparative way like for eg wanted to show average waiting time of all the algo in terms of bar graphs. Can anyone guide me how should i do that ? Thanks :) your little consideration will be a great help to me.

    ashish.escape wrote:
Exactly, can you suggest some less complicated library or any other method to draw bar charts for different values. It all depends on what exactly you are trying to achieve. The simplest would be to divide your numbers by x and then use that number to create a String of "*" which you then display with a println call. More complex and pretty would be to create a Swing app, override a JPanel's paintComponent and start drawing rectangles with its Graphics object. If you tweak this enough to make it look decent, pretty soon you're investing enough time where it may be worth your while to study JFreeChart rather than trying to re-invent the wheel (BDLH's picture link notwithstanding).
Bottom line: If you still want it done yourself, though, I think that you'll have to describe your desires in a lot greater detail before anyone will know just what to suggest.
