Sorry to crash this apparently resolved thread - but I get the exact same console log as OP, but the difference is we have 3 machines that since upgrading to Yosemite, are all suffering Safari Beach Balls hence me checking the logs.   The fault is intermittent but occasionally when we initiate a search in Safari, or often when first running Safari or when hotlinking from a mail to Safari, we get a 20 second or so hang, with Beach Ball.  When I pull the console during this period, consistently on all 3 machines (MBP15, MBP13, MBAir) the log contains the same dump as per OP's.
I am considering (for the first time in years), clean installs - but am reticent as this problem is on 3 machines, with differing history's and applications installed, although there is obviously some commonality with certain Apps (Notably DropBox/MenuItems/BetterSnap are our must haves).
Since Yosemite, Safari has been unusable due to this intermittent issue.  Any ideas gratefully received.

  • Safari created an incorrect user name for my hotmail account and I am unable to access it

I have a hotmail email account that I recently had to reset the password.  Safari created the wrong user name leaving of one letter ("l) and I am unable to access the account.  I am also unable to manually change the user name; it keeps referring back to the incorrect name.  I have Safari 7.1 on my MacBook Pro.  I have been in contact with hotmail at Microsoft and they have been unable to help me further and indicate I must bring this to Safari support which I am doing.  If I use another browser (Firefox) I am able to get into the account but it would be nice to have this back on Safari.  Appreciate help.

I was able to locate the source in Website Data.....it was set up via mail.live.com through Microsoft/Outlook.   They have changed their format considerably very recently.  Anyway removing that one entry (.live) and then using a new password I was able to bring up the original email program although it's no longer known as Hotmail but Outlook.  So I guess the problem was in Safari...I don't know how that user name was changed.  It may have been a typo error on my part and the corrupted name was maintained by Safari?  Anyway all is good now. Thanks for your help.

  • Can Safari create a hot key about "Merge All Windows"?

Well, I am now using Safari for Windows Public Beta, and it is really a fantastic browser. But there is one thing that I am not satisfied with. Although I set "open in new tabs in the same window" in the preference, when I click a link, the browser does not open a new table in the same window, like the Firefox does. So I have to select the "Merge All Windows" item , which has not a hot key. Is it a bug of the browser? Or can Apple set a hot key to this function?

At the moment, there's no hotkey for this function, but you can make a feature request at bugreport.apple.com

  • Create PDF Utility for Safari - Documenation and Contents not in Sync

I downloaded the acrobat_ittools_create_pdf_032613 package. The archive contains the following three files:
    document.wflow
    info.plist
    SafariCreatePDF.pdf
The documentation in SafariCreatePDF.pdf assumes that the following files are present:
Safari Create PDF from Web Page.workflow
    WebCapture.pdf
I can rename the document.wflow file to document.wflow and make it a valid Automator file, but I am missing the file WebCapture.pdf, which according to the documentation creates JavaScript that needs to be executed when a web page gets converted to PDF.
Are you planning on updating this file with a more recent and complete version of the solution?
    Thanks.

A new zip is now available. Thanks for your post.

  • How can I drag an image from a page in Safari to the finder and have it be saved as an *actual* image instead of a webloc?

Safari used to let me drag an image from a webpage to the finder and have the dragged file be saved as an actual image but now all that's saved is a webloc file.  I want the image saved, not a reference to the image's URL - do I now have to always use "save as" to save it?
I can understand Safari creating a webloc file if I dragged the site icon from the location bar to the finder, but to make the default behavior for dragging things that are parts of a page (not the page itself) as webloc files seems like a HUGE step backwards for usability.
Does anyone know if there's, say, a key to hold when dragging to avoid saving a webloc file or a defaults command or something to make Safari revert back to sane draging behavior?

Good questions...  I'll have to try and figure out when the problem first happened - I was thinking it was when I upgraded to Safari 5.1.4 but that might not be the case...  I'll try your suggestions to see if any of them eliminate the problem (I have restarted recenlty and that didn't fix it) but I'll try repairing permissions, etc.  Thanks!
hmmm... Mcbuffy: are you implying that you *don't* get the webloc when dragging an image out of Safari and that this isn't a caused by change to Safari but is a big/conflict in mine?

  • Safari is quitting on me too when I try to look at my email.

Safari started crashing on me after I downloaded the security update this morning. When I open my email, I can maybe get through one or two and then...........Safari quits. Please let me know how to fix this. Sorry, I'm blaming the update. I haven't had any problems with my 5 month old machine until this morning. Here's the report..
    Thanks!

    Hi Maria,
If it's not crashing in the Other User Account, then the problem is somewhere within your Regular User Account's Library folder. If you can identify the file, then you'll be good to go with Safari in your regular user account.
First via the Finder>HD>Users>Your User Account>Library: move the com.apple.safari.plist file found via the Finder>User Library>Preferences folder to the desktop and restart Safari. If Safari is stable, you'll need to reset your custom preferences in Safari, as well as any special settings in the Edit (spelling) or View menu (custom icons, status bar, etc.) If no change, move the file back to its original location, replacing the newly created file.
If the above doesn't work, go to the same Library>Caches>Safari and move that file to the desktop. Same routine as the previous step (restart Safari, etc). If no go, move the folder back etc.
Next, move the Cookies.plist file found in your User Library>Cookies folder to the desktop. Restart Safari. If stable, you have a corrupted cookies file. Safari creates a new one on the restart. If not stable, move back to the original location, then next step.
Last step: move to the desktop the Safari folder (which holds bookmarks, history, etc), and restart Safari. This folder is found in the same User Library accessed for the preference file. Restart Safari. If no relief, move the folder back, replacing the newly created one. If it does work, then you'll need to move one file at a time back to its original location, restarting Safari each time to isolate the problem file. When Safari crashes, you found the culprit.

  • Safari 8.0 no longer appears to cache Web pages.

Since upgrading to Yosemite, Safari no longer appears to cache anything. Pages reload each and every time a page change is made. It affects both backwards or forwards changes and does not matter if I use the arrow buttons in Safari or swipe across the MagicPad.
    As suggested on various other help sites;
I have removed all extensions from Safari
I have put Safari into single process mode
I temporarily removed the Cache folder from the Library so that Safari created a new one when it was restarted
None of the above had any effect, the issue remains.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue or knows how to fix it?

Hi Paul and Welcome to Apple Discussions
Do you have a similar fix for slow Safari 4.0.3 on an iBook G4 running OS X.4.11?
Go to the System Preferences>Network panel
-Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the location drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
-Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Depending on whether you use Ethernet or Airport (wireless) for your setup: Only Ethernet or Airport ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply". Everything else ought to be unchecked unless you use a Bluetooth device.
-Back to the "Show" menu, select either "Ethernet" or "Airport" (whichever applies to you). Click on the TCP panel. There, enter (copy/paste on separate lines) 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 in the DNS servers box - these are Opensource DNS codes.
When done, select OK, then "apply"
Last step: In the Finder, go to your Utilities folder and select "Terminal". Once the screen is open copy/paste lookupd -flushcache and press return. This clears out the DNS cache. Once done, quit Terminal.
    Restart Safari
In Safari Menu>Reset Safari. Select "empty the cache", then reset.

  • Firefox does not create a pdf properly using "print Save as pdf" in Mac OSX. Why?

When I "Print > Save As Pdf" in Mac OSX, Firefox will always clip the right margin of the page, leaving out alot of information from the document. Safari creates the same page effortlessly, but I generally prefer Firefox.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == ? After updating to Firefox 3.5.8 - maybe?

I am able to command-print-save as PDF and get the whole page but Firefox crashes every time.

  • Safari not formatting the page

I have Safari running on Mac OS 10.6 with an  Intel iMac.
The system has 2 accounts on it.   Admin and User.
When I log on as the User acount, and launch Safari, some web sites do NOT format correctly.
Safari OR Firefox do NOT show the fonts correctly, spacing is off, and alignment is messy.
I have tried Firefox, No change the same bad format.
HOWEVER when I log on as the Admin user.    Safari and Firefox work correctly.
    FiXES;
I have removed the Prefenece folder from the User account.
Logged off, then back on again.  Safari created all new prefences, and still the same formatting issues.
    Any suggestions??
    where do I look?
    Thanks
    Larry

I was think of creating another account tomorrow.
Then moving the files over to the new ~/library folder, one folder at a time.
It has to be in the ~/Library folder.
Was hoping some would know the answer.
Just don't know which folder or file it would be.
Sort of like troubleshooting OS 9 again.  lol
    I WILL post my findings.
    thanks.

  • Safari toolbar in Mavericks, icons washed-out/faint?

Since upgrading to Mavericks on Tuesday,  the icons in the Safari toolbar are so faint that it is difficult to tell which are active and which are not. Anyone else notice this? And, more importantly, is there a fix?
    Thanks.

    Robert...
iOS 5 has a new feature using Tabs now instead >  http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html#safari
Create a new tab by tapping the + on the right in the toolbar.

  • Safari 4.0.3 Develop menu user agent default

I have noticed that whenever a new window is opened the user agent defaults to "Mozilla/4.0(compatible-MSIE 6.0 Windows NT 5.1-SV1-.NET CLR 1.1.4322".
Can I change the default to safari 4.0.3-Mac?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions
That setting ought to appear as "Default Automatically Chosen". May be corrupted preference file. In the Finder, go to Your User Account>Library>Preferences. There, move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari.
On the restart Safari creates a new preference file, so all settings are returned to default values. Therefore, you'll need to reset your Safari preferences to your liking, plus any custom settings found in the Edit Menu (spelling) or View Menu (status bar, Address bar, custom icons in the "Customize Address Bar" ). The Develop menu is not part of the default settings. To activate it, go to the Safari Preferences in the Safari Menu and select the Advanced panel. There, you'll see at the bottom the option to activate it.

  • Safari 4 seems to launch but will not open a window

I've been using the two releases of Safari 4 beta and installed the final v4 of Safari when it came out.
When I launch it, it seems to be OK - the menu headers are all there and the menus drop down but it doesn't open a new page and when I try to create one with -N, nothing happens.
I tried to re-install the latest version of the beta but the installer said that it could not install on my system. However, I have another drive with OSX 10.5.7 on it so I installed it on there and copied it over and it worked fine for about a week.
For the past few days after several hours of normal operation, I have been getting the SBBoD when I have been using various different applications (with Safari in the background) and the whole Mac seems to be stuck. When I try to force quit, all the running applications seem to be OK but Safari is listed as not responding. As soon as I quit Safari, everything returns to normal but if I launch Safari again it will happen again within a few minutes.
Having just installed today's Java update, I thought it might have fixed the Safari 4 full problem of not launching properly but it didn't. I've had to go through the whole process of installing Safari 4b on my other drive and copying it over again.
I've tried the remedies I've already found on here - has anybody any other thoughts?

I seem to maybe having a similar problem. I have the latest Safari 4 installed and the lastest Java update. Just today, my Safari stopped responding. I can open it, but I have it set to open a blank page on start up. If I try to browse to a website, it just hangs and I have to force quit to end. It almost seems like a DNS or some other network issue except Firefox works fine. To reiterate, I can start Safari, create new tabs, open preferences, but if I try to load a page, that's when things go wrong.
I do have a few plugins installed, both 1Password and Evernote. I also use the Keywurl plugin. My next step is to start uninstalling the plugins.
    Any similarities with you?

  • Safari MUCH slower than Explorer on same computer. Why?

I have Comcast cable internet and I've noticed that my Safari (1.3.2) has been getting increasingly slow, very slow over the past several weeks. So I've been using Explorer (5.2.3) which is blazing fast comparatively. Why is this and is there anything I can do to Safari to get the same performance I'm getting from IE?
Safari has all my bookmarks. I've done the import bookmarks thing into IE but it just creates a "Bookmarks.plist" which, as far as I can tell, does nothing. Also my email application automatically launches Safari for links in email and I can't figure out how to get it to launch IE instead.
So if I can get these latter two issues resolved I'm fine using IE. So I'll take advice on that as well.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Safari 1.3.2

Internet Explorer has not been supported by Microsoft for some time. It is not as secure as current browsers. Firefox, Camino, Mozilla, Opera would be viable free alternatives to Safari.

If you are experiencing slower than usual operation, there are some steps you can take to perhaps improve the speed:
General - System Maintenance is important. Have a look at this MacWorld article for guidance.
Safari - Safari menu>Empty Cache is a good start.
Unplug your cable box, wait 30 seconds, plug-in to reset your ISP's address.
Go to your Network>TCP panel. Select "configure IPv6". Set to "off". Select "apply".
Go to your User Library>Safari folder. Move the Icon folder to the trash. This folder holds the small image files appearing next to the web address in the address bar. This file can become corrupt slowing things down. When you move it to the trash, Safari creates a new folder on the restart. Over time, the icon file rebuilds itself based on sites you access.
You can also move the Safari preference file .com.apple.safari.plist to the trash. When you restart Safari you'll need to reset your custom preferences, so mark them down for reference before moving the file. This file is accessed by a number of applications including Mail. Each time the file is accessed it is susceptible to corruption. Trashing the old gives you a fresh version. The file can be found at User>Library>Preferences
Restart Safari after completing the above.
There are other steps, however, I think this is a good start. Post back with results.

  • Hi, when setting Safari, what is the meaning of "Open New Tabs in Background"? Thank you.

hi, when setting Safari, what is the meaning of "Open New Tabs in Background"? Thank you.

Previously, whenever you wanted to open a new browser window in mobile Safari, or whenever you tapped a link from within another app, Safari created a new page.
But in IOS 5 things have changed, you now have 'open new tabs in background, a great feature.
On any browser window that you have selected in Safari or any linked windows, you open Safari on iPad/iTouch or iPhone you have tabbed browser windows and can go to any of the sites without having to open up a new safari window.
    It saves you time.
