Safari deletes new installed extension.

Hi,
I create simple safari extension. It just shows one button at extension location.
Extension is copied to ~/Library/Safari/Extensions and makes correct entry into Extensions.plist. Safari extension is signed with Apple Safari developer extension certificate.  Correct owner and mode are set. Owner is current logged-in user:staff and mode is 600.
Issue is: as soon as Safari starts, my extension file is deleted at some machine and worked some other. I could not figure out external factor.
All machines are 10.8.4/10.8.5. Safari verions is 6.0.3.
Could you please help on this front?
Thanks in Advance,
Anand

Tried a couple of different extensions. Same result.
Any thoughts on the  cause of this?

If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Now copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply here.
If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

  • Transfer bookmarks from 10.3 Safari to new install 10.5?

    Hello,
I just updated a friends iBook G4 from 10.3.9 to Leopard 10.5.7 but did not use Migration Assistant due to previous bad experiences/etc... Anyway, she had a lot of bookmarks in Safari (Safari 2 i think), is there anyway to export those or somehow get them into Safari 4 in Leopard?
    Thank you

The bookmarks would have been in her home folder in Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist, so try copying that file into the same location on the new system.

  • Safari 5, installed extensions disappeared

    I had two installed extensions.

    -rw-r--r--@ 1 user staff 165 Jul 14 20:01 Extensions.plist
    (username changed to user)
but as you can see here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/361483/screenshots/safari5missingextensions.png
Safari 5.0 will not load them. They were working last yesterday. My last system update was on July 11th 2010 which included Safari 5 and OSX 10.6.4 so it was not any system update that could have caused this.
What should I do to fix this and should I file a bug report somewhere?

HI Brad and welcome to Apple Discussions..
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon.
Now open the Library folder, the Safari folder, and the Extensions folder. Move the Extensions.plist file to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.
You may need to troubleshoot the Safari .plist file also. Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

None of these things worked. Deleting Extensions.plist just resulted in Safari creating a new one with an empty installed extensions array instead it.
I was able to copy the extensions to the desktop and reinstall them. (So I didn't have to go looking for them online.) They seem to have kept their settings so it's more of a minor annoyance than a major one. Should I file a bug report?

  • Can't install safari extensions, I get the error message "Safari can't install this extension, An error occurred while installing the extension "Pin It Button"." Any suggestions?

Every time I try and install an extension for Safari I get the error message "Safari can’t install this extension, An error occurred while installing the extension “Pin It Button”." I have all the latest updates, working on OS X Yosemite v 10.10.2 / Safari v 8.0.3. Any suggestions?

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to search for an item named "Safari Extensions List". If found, delete it. Quit Keychain Access.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.

This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Deleted Safari.app - cant install again

    Hi.
I have a time ago downloaded the Safari 4 developer preview.
Anyways, i got tired of it and i wanted to switch back to 3.2, or whatever is the newest product version. Well, as with any other uninstall i thought i'd just have to drag the .app into the trashcan.
Well, i did this and it went fine, and i emptied the trashcan and it went fine and stuff like that.
When i then tried to install Safari 3.2 it said that a newer version of Safari was already installed. Then i browsed around for a time and found out that i had to delete a folder inside ~user/library called Safari.
I did this, but it will still not install.
I went into the Disc Utility and repaired and controlled the Disc permission things you know.
Really hope ya can help, getting sick of firefox's inability to read RSS and its weird.. Look!
    Thanks in advance!

Have a look at this thread for how to obtain Safari 4. I haven't tried it, so I can't vouch for whether the download is still accessible.
If you get the dmg file, install Safari 4 again. Then, uninstall it using the provided uninstaller. That will take you back to the last version of Safari used in your system prior to Safari 4.

  • Error installing extensions in Safari 6

    Hello all,
When I try to install extensions appears a window with the following error: "Safari can´t install this extension. An error occurred while installing the extension xxx". So I can´t install any extension in Safari 6 in my MacBook pro mid 2010 with Mountain Lion (with Lion also occurred). Any idea?
    Thank you

Try deleting the extensions.plist file  (preferences). Might be corruped.
    Quit Safari.
    Open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Safari/Extensions
    Click Go
Move the Extensions.plist file from the Extensions folder to the Trash.
Launch Safari.. try adding an extension.

If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. • Cannot install extensions for Safari. Help!

No matter what I try to do I cannot get Safari to install extensions. I have tried some of the answers others have been given for a similar problem but non of them seem to work. If anyone can tell me a way I can uninstall Safari and reinstall it again or repair it I would be incredibly grateful for your help.

    Try deleting the Safari .plist
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try adding an extension.
The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.8 Mountain Lion is to reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery
