Safari developers menu won't go away

I typed:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
in Terminal to turn the Developers menu on, but when I typed:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 0
to turn the developers menu off, *it won't turn off*. Did the command change? 1 is supposed to be "on" and 0 is supposed to be "off", but it's not working.

It appears that Safari.app (at least my version 3.1.2) now has a "Show Develop menu" checkbox in "Preferences" > "Advanced".
In terms of the property list file, it appears that the primary property that is used is now 'IncludeDevelopMenu'. However things appear to be in transition and the presence of legacy properties can affect the appearance of the menu - i.e. the older 'IncludeDebugMenu' and something called 'MigratedIncludeDebugMenu'.
Perhaps try deleting the latter two (if they exist) before trying to toggle 'IncludeDevelopMenu'...

  • Safari password box won't go away.

I clicked on a website, it partially loaded when a password box appeared.  It has no red button to close it but does have a cancel and an OK button.  Clicking on either makes the box go away and return.  I've tried closing Safari and restarting the computer but can't get to go away.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Safari
Click Go then move these files from the Safari folder to the Trash.
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    LastSession.plist
Restart your Mac then try Safari.

  • Safari popups that won't go away

I think that I accidentally clicked something I shouldn't have and now I had all these popups going on and I keep "okay"-ing them but they just keep popping up again and I don't know what to do. I've already restarted my computer, but every time I open the Safari app the webpages and the popup warning things keep coming back no matter how many times I try to click out of them. And the popups have number on them for me to call, but I don't think they're very reliable because they are giving two different numbers so I don't know which one would be legit enough for me to try I don't want to mess up any more than I already have

    1. Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.
    2. None of those numbers are legitimate. If you can’t simply dismiss those popups, choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, close Safari, and then launch it with the Shift key held down; if that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

  • .mac menu won't go away!

How do I get rid of the .mac menu? The preferences pane just tries to sell me a membership, there's no option to remove the menu. Any ideas, hacks or workarounds?

Press the COMMAND key and then drag the menu bar icon towards the Desktop. It will "poof" away. Alternatively open .Mac preferences, click on the Sync tab then uncheck the option to display the menu bar icon in the lower left of the window.

I can't cancel out or access safari preferences to delete history. I Did a reboot at and all previous pages came right back, same thing when I force quit. How do I fix this. Please help!

  • After IOS 8 update, bookmark bar won't go away

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my iPad 2, in landscape mode in Safari, the bookmarks bar, now combined with links and "Reading List", won't go away. I believe it is supposed to go away when you select one of the functions, such as bookmark, so that the tab turns blue, then hit it again. It doesn't. I can turn it to portrait mode to make it go away, but I'd like to use landscape mode without losing a third of the screen to bookmarks.

Apple knows what's good for you - how dare you criticizing their benevolent parental guidance?
Jokes aside, I'm also a little bit puzzled that there's no option to choose between the "toggle on-off" setting in landscape mode and the fade out one as in portrait In Safari's settings. But there's actually some kind of workaround I'm now using most of the time in landscape mode:
When tapping the URL address bar your bookmarks will also show above the virtual keyboard as they do when Safari doesn't have any websites opened. As soon as one taps into that bookmark window to scroll or directly click a bookmark the keyboard disappears again. It may not be a perfect method, especially when bookmarks aren't organized in folders, because the top level bookmarks are displayed as rather largish icons. But those contained in a folder will actually display as a drop-down list (can be scrolled when having a large number of entries) similar to the normal bookmarks list. Once a bookmark has been clicked everything fades out and you're taken to the selected site. As my bookmarks are almost exclusively in folders such as "News", "Sports", "Tech" etc. I've come to appreciate this kind of bookmark navigation much more than through the standard bookmarks menu with its annoying behavior in landscape mode.

  • Safari and firefox won't launch and explorer opens but won't load correctly

    Hi
Something weird is happening to our emac!
Got home yesterday after a few days away and all the apple aps have stopped working
Safari and itunes won't launch at all - they just bounce a couple of times in the dock - then nothing.
Firefox won't launch either - the only browser I can get to launch is explorer - and that won't load properly.
I've tried the software update - it says there's now software - but 'unexpectedly' quits if i try to download anything.
In desperation overnight I re-installed the software from the software restore discs - but this morning it's no better.
I saw a thread earlier that suggested that rogue fonts might be to blame - which could be something because the only page that loads in explorer displays strangely with the fonts all over the place.
Any advice that someone could give would be much appreciated
    thanks x

    HI,
*"In desperation overnight I re-installed the software from the software restore discs - but this morning it's no better."*
Better check the startup disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode

  • Safari and calendar won't open due to 'calendar persistence plug in' problem.  Anyone know what this means and how to resolve it please?

Safari and calendar won't open due to 'calendar persistence plug- in problems'.  Does anyone know what this means and how to resolve it please?
mac book pro with Mavericks 10.9.5

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • How do I get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar which won't go away even after uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox?

Can't get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar that seems to be just hanging and won't go away. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but the bar is still there after 2 days. I updated something (can't remember what!) on I.E., and it had the same blue bar, but it had a box I could x out of so it went away on I.E. I don't know why the blue bar is there on Firefox, as I did the update while on I.E.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I updated an application while on Internet Explorer.

    Annette,
#In the menu bar, at the top of the Firefox window, Go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions.
    # Locate ''each ''of the following extensions by name and click the disable button
#Restart Firefox as prompted and see if the undesired toolbar has been removed.
#The extensions to disable are: '''Crawler Toolbar''', '''MP3 Rocket Toolbar''', '''MSN Toolbar''', '''Search Helper Extension'''
If you don't need some / all of those toolbars, consider leaving them disabled.
You can probably remove these toolbars permanently from Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.

  • Ghost Rental in my IPOD Video Library...there's a video that I rented that won't go away...how to remove?

I rented a video on my ipod, watched it, and now it won't go away.  I can't rewatch it either.  When I sync, it is not on the computer as far as rentals.  Can anyone help me remove this?

See if you have enabled 'VoiceOver'…
Open Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accessibility, select VoiceOver in the sidebar list, disable that if it is enabled. You may also see a keyboard shortcut listed there (e.g. cmd+F5), it's possible you hit that accidentally

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • The grid in Flash CC won't go away?

    Hello~
I've been using Flash CC for a while, but I haven't started having this problem until recently.
Whenever I'm zoomed in to 400% or greater, the grid appears and won't go away.
In the view menu, the grid, guides and snapping are all turned off.
    Is there something I'm missing?
    Thank you in advance!

Now, you say that you've turned off every setting in Grid, Guides and Snapping. I've had the same problem as you, but what solved my problem was to turn off Snap to Pixels under the Snapping menuitem.
(Yes I know this is an old post, but it came up in a Google search...and it probably will again )
